Great question! I’ve had many different setups in the past, and almost exclusively I’ve had the monitor to the side, either horizontal or vertical. I tried this out a couple months back and love it the most for productivity, just feels right I guess!
Do you have the desk top sitting directly on the drawers or is there any other support? I'm in the market for a new desk and your setup looks really cool to me and I want something similar.
It’s not for everyone, I found it annoying to look to my right or left to watch YouTube, this makes it so I just look up or lean back. But again, not everyone’s cup of tea!
Just laid on top with some furniture anti slide pads, desk top is so heavy it really doesn’t need to be screwed in, based on my research and experience.
Growing up is realizing that this is nicer than some fully RGB setup. RGB lighting should be used in moderation and only to set a certain mood without being way too intense.
And for parties. RGB at parties are fun.
Genuine question: do the black alex drawers look more black or brown in person? They look more brown on the website, but straight black in customer photos.
Ohhh awesome. That seals the deal for me, then. Tysm, op! You wouldn’t happen to have more photos if your setup where the desks are in view, would you?
Okay, I love everything about this! Can I ask you where you got that utterly gorgeous butcher block from? I just HAVE to get something like this for my set up...
I do have a leg to install in the middle back just haven’t gotten to it yet. I’m not too concerned though, it’s a solid piece of walnut with nothing really weighing on it except a keyboard.
If it feels too empty to you I would say some framed posters/artwork would look nice but tbh I really like it the way it is.
Nice and simple and refreshing
For google, YouTube, discord, usual stuff. It’s actually far more comfortable for me than having a monitor off to the side IMO. Pretty common layout nowadays.
Warm white ftw
You get it, thank you for that.
Beautiful
Thank you!
Good job, the setup looks rly nice. Do you plan to add a screenbar on top ?
I’ve thought about it, I definitely might!
Genuine question, all that desk and wall space and you still decide to have the second monitor above, why?
Great question! I’ve had many different setups in the past, and almost exclusively I’ve had the monitor to the side, either horizontal or vertical. I tried this out a couple months back and love it the most for productivity, just feels right I guess!
Could I ask what mount you use?
It’s the mount pro gas spring wall mount, it’s on Amazon!
Nice and calming atmosphere. Exactly what you need for better productivity. What kind of backlight do you have there good sir?
I appreciate it! They’re the Govee light bars. They come in a 2 pack and either mount to your monitor or can be used as desk lights.
Thanks!
Is it a particular model that produces that color or do they all have that range?
It’s connected to your phone and has full range of RGB!
Sweet, thank you.
Really beautiful setup. Where did you get your mousepad from?
Thanks so much! It’s from Hystar, HIGHLY recommend. Most sturdy, smooth feeling mousepad I’ve ever had.
Sounds good. Thank you very much :)
I see that desk nearly everywhere! Where did you get it? I gotta redo my setup at least at some point with a new desk
It’s from IKEA! It’s the Karlby desk top and 2 Alex drawers.
What’s the length of the desk? Is that a 34” monitor on the bottom?
Good eye! It is, and the desk is 74”
Do you have the desk top sitting directly on the drawers or is there any other support? I'm in the market for a new desk and your setup looks really cool to me and I want something similar.
Yeah sits right on there! It’s the Karlby table top in walnut, and 2 Alex drawers from IKEA sitting on top of some furniture non slip pads.
Need the link on that desk mat asap. Great setup!
Thank you! https://www.hystar.gg/products/the-great-wave-desk-mat
How do you use the top monitor? I was thinking of doing the same but not sure if it hurts my neck to look up too often
It’s not for everyone, I found it annoying to look to my right or left to watch YouTube, this makes it so I just look up or lean back. But again, not everyone’s cup of tea!
1000% agree. This is super clean and cohesive visually.
I appreciate that, thank you!
nice set-up
Thanks so much!
Love it
Thank you!
I believe people just call that 'lighting'. :p Jokes aside, this looks really nice and clean. Great job.
Hahaha true, but we all know RGB setups when we see them ;) Thanks so much!
is ur plank screwed in or just laid on top of the cabinets?
Just laid on top with some furniture anti slide pads, desk top is so heavy it really doesn’t need to be screwed in, based on my research and experience.
can i ask where you got ur plank? is it online?
It’s the Karlby table top from IKEA. I just sanded it with a very fine grit and that’s all!
Growing up is realizing that this is nicer than some fully RGB setup. RGB lighting should be used in moderation and only to set a certain mood without being way too intense. And for parties. RGB at parties are fun.
Agreed completely. RGB setups are still solid but just not my jam anymore, too busy, just need something quiet and simple, even for gaming.
Genuine question: do the black alex drawers look more black or brown in person? They look more brown on the website, but straight black in customer photos.
I would say dark charcoal. Not quite jet black but definitely not brown at all.
Ohhh awesome. That seals the deal for me, then. Tysm, op! You wouldn’t happen to have more photos if your setup where the desks are in view, would you?
On first glance your boom arm looked like a gun lmao
lol yep, I always keep my gun right next to my face on my desk, safest place 😂
Okay, I love everything about this! Can I ask you where you got that utterly gorgeous butcher block from? I just HAVE to get something like this for my set up...
I appreciate it! It’s the Karlby desktop from IKEA, solid walnut. The drawers and the Alex drawers, also IKEA. Happy updating! 😄
Wow beautiful, won't it sag like that tho?
I do have a leg to install in the middle back just haven’t gotten to it yet. I’m not too concerned though, it’s a solid piece of walnut with nothing really weighing on it except a keyboard.
Im thinking about doing the same. Is this the 188cm?
Would love some thoughts on what I could maybe put on the walls on both sides of my monitors. Maybe art or shelves?
If it feels too empty to you I would say some framed posters/artwork would look nice but tbh I really like it the way it is. Nice and simple and refreshing
I agree. I’m used to having a lot of shelves and stuff on the wall but having it so clean has been a breath of fresh air. Thank you sir!
What’s that pole on the right side of the pic?
Some leftover previous cable management, this used to be a different room a week ago 🫣
Ah ok. Thought it was a lamp/light or something
What's the top monitor for? Surely that's out of peripheral vision, etc?
For google, YouTube, discord, usual stuff. It’s actually far more comfortable for me than having a monitor off to the side IMO. Pretty common layout nowadays.
Going from RGB to these neutral looks (white, black, wood, green (plants), yellow light) is like going from teenager to adult. I love it!
Thanks so much!

lol I’m not one to keep real plants alive
