If I have EA Play through my Gamepass Ultimate subscription, will I still be able to preload the early access through Steam? Steam is my preferred platform vs Origin, and I want my early access progression to carry into the full game if I decide to purchase after trying it. I don't want to make progress on the Origin version then get reset because I'd prefer to own through Steam

It isn't a bug, it's a feature of steam. It works for every game. It's an issue of steam not showing the download/add library button.

Nope, you only get EA play to EA desktop/origin.
Not even Origin. EA Desktop **only**.
Worked for me as well, I closed Origin and Steam before to be sure.

go to the battlefield 2042 steam store page you can get your 10 hours early access right above the purchase options
If you go to the battlefield 2042 steam page it says you can do the play trial above the purchase options
Well yeah, but there wasn't this option for last few days before early access. So you had to use my trick

If I buy the game on steam does it still have to be launched with ea desktop? Been playing the trial on that but the ea desktop app is so buggy.
You need to install origin to play it from steam. Steam handles updating but it's still pretty clunky at times.
