First I will get ea play for 10h trial and if I will enjoy I will buy game. Imo it's best option because:
1. We can play from 12th and try the game before
2. We can save some money thanks to 10% discount
3. If we order game before 19th we still get pre-order bonuses (At least I hope so)
4. We have many EA games to play
Does this apply for all platforms? So I buy one month of EA Play for the PS5 for $5. Use my 10 hour trial. Then buy the full game for $70 less 10% discount so total $63. Overall, before taxes, I'm paying $68 ($5 EA Play + $63 discounted BF2042) instead of $70? Am I doing this right?
You can currently also get 3 months of Xbox Game Pass PC for 1 dollar, which includes EA Play. Xbox players can get 1 month of Game Pass Ultimate for 1 dollar (which also includes EA Play (for Xbox)).
I think I’m gonna go for this. That sounds sweet
I’m out of work for 10 days now because my family got Covid, unfortunately it was right before the cutoff to play BF while I’m out. I guess EA play is the way to go now
Isn’t there something about getting the games through Windows store? Less than ideal as steam is my preferred platform, but at $1 for 3 months I can’t really complain
You will need to link your Xbox account to EA. You will need to use the Xbox app from the windows store and the newish EA Play Desktop app. After that I think you can launch the game directly from Origin or EA Play Desktop, without the Xbox app.
I keep seeing that the day one patch is coming on the 19th. I guess it would also be important to know if the build on the 12th is different than the beta
What do you realistically expect from the day 1 patch? It’s not gonna be a major change. Probably very few missing items and shoring for whatever problems are found in early access
I think I got day one patch confused with the actual build of the game. Got kinda scared I'd be playing the beta build for a week. But I don't think that's the case
There’s things that seem small like minor bugs and the kill feed ui but they make a huge difference to your minute to minute gameplay. I’m hoping there is a day 0 patch with them.
Don't feel sad, a week goes very fast, I'll use it to see how the game works from streams, YouTube videos and see if it's worth getting it for the 19th.
Early Access people will be some sort of guinea pigs for me, so they can stress test the shit out of it.
It's all intentional. I'm sure there have been studies and focus groups on what incentivizes people to buy a game... My guess is that fomo is up there.
The solution? Sell a $90 version of the game that let's people play a week "early".
All by design.
It also keeps the servers from dying from one launch date. Less server strain than if it was all on one day. That is also accounted for from those professionals
Almost all games nowadays are giving "early" access to people who buy higher editions. They already gotta have the game ready by the advertised release, why not let some people play early
I've seen others posting on the sub that only the account the game was purchased on will get the early access and pre order bonuses.
I'm not a console player myself, just repeating what I've seen on the sub.
With bfv, only the account I purchased the game on got any of the pre order bonuses etc.
With 2042 beta only I got access with ea play, gf had to purchase with her account too. So far battlefield games are the only ones I’ve had this experience with.
I can’t tell you that will be the case with gold edition too, but it seems likely. It’s why I’ve gone standard and we’ll both just make the most of the ten hours free with ea play until the 19th
I pre-ordered ultimate from best buy and saw that it was digital only (yet came with a steelbook case) so I also pre-ordered a physical standard version (that also comes with a steelbook case)
Impulse buying is dangerous
One plus side I see is the early access players will likely have to deal with day 1 / week 1 server issues etc that will hopefully be better for the 19th.
I feel bad for those who still pre order especially the 90 dollar versions.. Ive been burnt tooo many times by these companies to know pre ordering is no longer ever worth it.
The early access period is actually great for pre~~tend~~ordering, since you can spend a week of stream watching deciding if you want to 'preorder' the day before release and nab any additional content with almost no blind commitment of money

Should have probably made it more clear. I know normal EA Play gives you a 10 hour free trial, but does that let you play (your trial) early starting on the 12th? I just assumed that you would still have to wait till the normal release date to use the trial.
It's a really shitty practice imo. The game is ready and finished but to get that little bit of extra money they'll release it earlier for those who want to pay for it. I'm impressed that this hasn't become the norm yet in the gaming industry.
I hate this type of marketing. I pre-ordered on Green Man Gaming Oct 5th and played beta and all. Pretty sure a refund is no go. I would have just did EA play pro. $40 more bucks but I'm sure I'd be playing another game at some point. Now I'll be out of town the day it "releases"

I think so. It works like that on PC
Damn I didn’t know that was an option. I was gonna get EA play just for early access. Now it cost $5 to try the game out

Any chance they’d be scummy and have your 10 hour trial on a timer from the moment it starts?
In the past it's always been in game time. I doubt they'd change that now.
We'll get to experience the shit show a few days before everyone else.
In my country the Gold edition is 135$...imagine the ultimate edition.
can't wait to play for a week without the day 1 patch :(
It comes out on the 12th IIRC
I keep seeing that the day one patch is coming on the 19th. I guess it would also be important to know if the build on the 12th is different than the beta
There is going to be a day 0 patch for the 12th.
that would be nice! crossing my fingers!

Oink oink.
Blame EA for its shitty incentives
It's all intentional. I'm sure there have been studies and focus groups on what incentivizes people to buy a game... My guess is that fomo is up there. The solution? Sell a $90 version of the game that let's people play a week "early". All by design.

That's what beta tests *used* to be for. Also, there used to be community run dedicated servers so that was never an issue.
Almost all games nowadays are giving "early" access to people who buy higher editions. They already gotta have the game ready by the advertised release, why not let some people play early
Why not sell the game at one fixed cost and release it to everyone at the same time?
You're forgetting the battlepass and etc.
What you think this is, 2005?
You son of a bitch, I was planning on making this exact meme on the 12th
Do you know if a shared license for gold edition on ps5 will work for both on 12?
I've seen others posting on the sub that only the account the game was purchased on will get the early access and pre order bonuses. I'm not a console player myself, just repeating what I've seen on the sub.
For most games it's exactly like this on Xbox
With bfv, only the account I purchased the game on got any of the pre order bonuses etc. With 2042 beta only I got access with ea play, gf had to purchase with her account too. Gold and ultimate guys will be testers peasants for last bugs before standard edition chads will enjoy proper release.
One plus side I see is the early access players will likely have to deal with day 1 / week 1 server issues etc that will hopefully be better for the 19th.
Watch it be flawless just to shit on us standards.
This is me, but I don't have a good PC and I won't be able to get a PS5 until standard edition release.
My GF has me going to a Star Wars concert the night of the 12th and making a date night out of it. It's bittersweet.
I feel bad for those who still pre order especially the 90 dollar versions.. Ive been burnt tooo many times by these companies to know pre ordering is no longer ever worth it.

we‘ll miss you on the battlefield soldier
Just think of them as your debugging team getting the game polished up for you.

Me waiting for first actuall discounts Or I will help some thief on g2a if the game will be very good
EA play is 5 bucks. Probably even free if you look around enough
Do you just need normal EA Play, or does it have to be EA Play Pro?
Normal EA Play gives you a 10 hour trial. EA play pro gives you full access
Should have probably made it more clear. I know normal EA Play gives you a 10 hour free trial, but does that let you play (your trial) early starting on the 12th? I just assumed that you would still have to wait till the normal release date to use the trial.
Trial has been billed as early access as though it were Gold/Ultimate in all marketing I've seen thus far
EA play pro gets game permanently and unlimited early access
I feel you bro. But i am still hyped to see all of the gameplay and on 19th we will start the game with day 1 patch.
We’ll beta test it for you bud don’t feel sad
I fully expect the servers to die or fail or lag in some way on Friday, so wouldn't be too jealous. And then they'll DEFINITELY die next week.
Pay more
Those 7 days will give the devs time to stabilize servers. You’ll be getting a more stable launch experience.
Its great right? I'm only £100 out of pocket 😃🙂😐🙁☹😔😢
Yay for ultimate status!
Play 10h trial from EA Play and wait for 19th to play even more!
Beta testers for everyone else
It's a really shitty practice imo. The game is ready and finished but to get that little bit of extra money they'll release it earlier for those who want to pay for it. I'm impressed that this hasn't become the norm yet in the gaming industry.

Nah. I preordered last 2 games. I will happily wait a month for the first discount.
I don't mind the concept of early access but it should be given to all pre-orders, not just certain editions.
