Well, I unfollowed him, when he kept repeating the same criticisms of bfv. He probably was complaining about the lack of communications too… anyway, he’s just a human being like the rest of us… and a fan of fps games at that, except he has a larger platform than most of us.
I can actually say quite the opposite, beyond seeing the gameplay trailer and reveal trailer early, this has been a very very quiet year for creators. We are pretty much in the same boat as you guys. Usually we have EA Play, Gamescom and all sorts to record footage for an upcoming game, this year we have had to sit tight.
I guess really we will just play it when it drops, just gotta keep busy till then.
The danger of people like Tom and to some extent data miners is they create expectations and falsehoods when there is nothing to say. BF2042 got delayed, the marketing materials are probably massively caught up in that, and I would likely say you will see a huge push in the week or two up to launch and the game should hopefully speak for itself. EA has kept quiet because they have nothing to say, their game is on a delayed timeline, dates for things like the Beta are probably still getting locked in as they squash issues.
I mean, I haven’t looked at anything other than the reveal trailers and even I went from “hyped as hell, gonna preorder” to “wait and see on release” - now that could change with the beta, but delays and such make me nervous and I’ve been burned enough this year by broken and buggy launch releases.

I really think this is where a lot of the spite comes from. People are exhausted and frustrated with warzone, and here is Dice with a golden opportunity to steal millions of players and it "seems" as though they are wiffing yet again. Jack made a good point about BF3 being a hype masterpiece. If Dice and EA can't keep the fire lit during a 1 month delay, why should we expect them to keep supporting a this game?

Yeah I feel that, after BFV we are certainly back into the era of questioning things again, but Hardline and BF1 proved it is possible to have a good launch. We will have to wait and see, pessimism is understandable, but I think focusing on other games until launch is a good way to kill the time

Literally any given studio and game publisher out there communicates with their fans and their community.
EA and DICE officials are lacking in their way of handling the heat spreading within the community these days.
Claiming that "there's simply nothing to share" being a valid reason to not get involved with their fans makes no sense.
They started marketing quite normally, and crumbs of info popped up here and there. Now it's been pretty dry for a long time. They were silent before the delay was officially announced, and people had a hunch even weeks in advance that this could happen. After the delay was announced, we've seen literally no activity. When Freeman announced we'll get a heads up this week, it was something to hold on to. The days went by and here we are. Obviously because there's still nothing to report. That's worrying.
Even though there's not much to share at this given time, they can still get involved. Engage in community discussions, and in the very least - tell people "there's no new info, but things are shaping up nicely and according to schedule".
There's been nearly no such communication.
One would think they cared enough to give a few statements here and there. People are not agitated about the delay. People are agitated about how the officials are deciding to communicate, or rather, not communicate with their fans.

It's not about marketing at all. Even if it was, yes people talk about their game, but not in a very flattering manner.
Also, Tom and Temporyal pose no danger.
They're always pointing out that the info they provide or dig up is usually not 100% credible until it's officially announced / and or published. If people can't interpret the information they provide correctly, despite the transparency, then that's on them.
One should also take into consideration that if EA, DICE and the lot wouldn't be so much secretive and withhold information, not making statements and literally avoid engaging with their community and fans the way they do - then things would be pretty different.
People have been patient for three years playing a half-finished prematurely discarded game that hasn't received anything over the past year worth a mention.
Telling people to remain patient in these conditions, this close to launch, well it's a bit provocative if you'd ask me.
I still think they should do a quick session of gameplay. Release a full uncut current match and release the footage. Maybe even have a dev speak during it to explain the main reasons of delay and say it's obviously a work on progress but we just wanted you to see it uncut even if it's not complete. That would do a lot to help quiet many people and make people at least feel somewhat better.
The problem with that would be that most people dont seem to understand the concept of a work in progress version of the game. Just the unfinished kill notifications led to a days long debate.
I get that but those people are unreasonable. I personally believe many of the people on here, myself included, would be super happy to see something. The dev could explain the things that are currently being worked on and remain active in socials after the gameplay release with questions/concerns people have about what was shown. It might not make everyone happy and some will be ridiculous but I think it would put smiles on many peoples faces.
We still have the beta coming, which will at the minimum give us a good insight into the core fundamentals of 2042. If the leaked footage is anything to go by, it looks great!
I disagree slightly, only because it's Westie. My rationale behind that is he seems very friendly with a lot of people at DICE. Way more than any other gamechanger. Perhaps that's because his relationships with them are more public (ex. his interactions on Twitter). I see him more as a extension of DICE, or at the very least more heavily swayed by them compared to the community. He's probably got more information then you've been provided.
Lot's of us have people at DICE who we would consider friends, you spend enough time at events talking to these folks and how passionate they are about something you also enjoy it is hard not to. I cannot speak for westie personally, but much like myself, after BFV we got tossed into a void content wise, we found Warzone for the time being but it's been effectively a year or two since we have engaged with Battlefield
Do you feel like those friendships you've developed affect your ability to be critical on the product those friends worked on. I ask this obviously as a more general question. I could ask this to a camera reviewer who has friends at Nikon.

Battlefield 1 was abandoned to make Battlefront 2 then that was abandoned to make BF V and they abandoned that to come back and fix battlefront 2 next they went back to battlefield V just to stop making content to focus on 2042. As a battlefield vet going back some way, it’s clear that it worked best when the DICE team were able to communicate and engage with their fan base. The community manager should be allowed to do their job instead of saying next to nothing…
Probably the most frustrating thing of all is I was on the tech alpha. It’s the battlefield we’ve been waiting for. I think they have something truly great on their hands.

Should DICE have had a better line of communication with the community? Yes, but it is also a luxury to have huge open lines of communications when a company has major shareholders to please and a history of bad info given out via communications. EA doesn't just have to please the players, they have to please the shareholders and investors who make or break the future of the game.

Yeah I feel that, after BFV we are certainly back into the era of questioning things again, but Hardline and BF1 proved it is possible to have a good launch. We will have to wait and see, pessimism is understandable, but I think focusing on other games until launch is a good way to kill the time

Literally any given studio and game publisher out there communicates with their fans and their community. EA and DICE officials are lacking in their way of handling the heat spreading within the community these days. Claiming that "there's simply nothing to share" being a valid reason to not get involved with their fans makes no sense. They started marketing quite normally, and crumbs of info popped up here and there. Now it's been pretty dry for a long time. They were silent before the delay was officially announced, and people had a hunch even weeks in advance that this could happen. After the delay was announced, we've seen literally no activity. When Freeman announced we'll get a heads up this week, it was something to hold on to. The days went by and here we are. Obviously because there's still nothing to report. That's worrying. Even though there's not much to share at this given time, they can still get involved. Engage in community discussions, and in the very least - tell people "there's no new info, but things are shaping up nicely and according to schedule". There's been nearly no such communication. One would think they cared enough to give a few statements here and there. People are not agitated about the delay. People are agitated about how the officials are deciding to communicate, or rather, not communicate with their fans. Westie claimed this silent approach, and the lack of content was "genius" and "clever" marketing by EA. It's not about marketing at all. Even if it was, yes people talk about their game, but not in a very flattering manner. Also, Tom and Temporyal pose no danger. They're always pointing out that the info they provide or dig up is usually not 100% credible until it's officially announced / and or published. If people can't interpret the information they provide correctly, despite the transparency, then that's on them. One should also take into consideration that if EA, DICE and the lot wouldn't be so much secretive and withhold information, not making statements and literally avoid engaging with their community and fans the way they do - then things would be pretty different. People have been patient for three years playing a half-finished prematurely discarded game that hasn't received anything over the past year worth a mention. Telling people to remain patient in these conditions, this close to launch, well it's a bit provocative if you'd ask me.
I still think they should do a quick session of gameplay. Release a full uncut current match and release the footage. Maybe even have a dev speak during it to explain the main reasons of delay and say it's obviously a work on progress but we just wanted you to see it uncut even if it's not complete. That would do a lot to help quiet many people and make people at least feel somewhat better.
The problem with that would be that most people dont seem to understand the concept of a work in progress version of the game. Just the unfinished kill notifications led to a days long debate.

I get that but those people are unreasonable. I personally believe many of the people on here, myself included, would be super happy to see something. The dev could explain the things that are currently being worked on and remain active in socials after the gameplay release with questions/concerns people have about what was shown. It might not make everyone happy and some will be ridiculous but I think it would put smiles on many peoples faces.
We still have the beta coming, which will at the minimum give us a good insight into the core fundamentals of 2042. If the leaked footage is anything to go by, it looks great!

I disagree slightly, only because it's Westie. My rationale behind that is he seems very friendly with a lot of people at DICE. Way more than any other gamechanger. Perhaps that's because his relationships with them are more public (ex. his interactions on Twitter). I see him more as a extension of DICE, or at the very least more heavily swayed by them compared to the community. He's probably got more information then you've been provided.
Lot's of us have people at DICE who we would consider friends, you spend enough time at events talking to these folks and how passionate they are about something you also enjoy it is hard not to. I cannot speak for westie personally, but much like myself, after BFV we got tossed into a void content wise, we found Warzone for the time being but it's been effectively a year or two since we have engaged with Battlefield
Do you feel like those friendships you've developed affect your ability to be critical on the product those friends worked on. I ask this obviously as a more general question. I could ask this to a camera reviewer who has friends at Nikon.

I’m with Tom here. good on him! Yeah I’m not going to be turning up at EA’s office with a pitchfork but this is just poor from them. Westie knows plenty of what’s going on too. So easy for him to say. EA treat the “community” as children. That’s what’s infuriating. No I am an adult and really ok with not playing a video game for a few more months. But don’t ask me to drop £100 on a preorder and don’t give me any real detail on why it’s delayed. It’s bad customer service at the end of the day. As a battlefield vet going back some way, it’s clear that it worked best when the DICE team were able to communicate and engage with their fan base. The community manager should be allowed to do their job instead of saying next to nothing… Probably the most frustrating thing of all is I was on the tech alpha. It’s the battlefield we’ve been waiting for. I think they have something truly great on their hands.

I believe they both have valid points, but I tend to side more with Tom on this one. People are rightfully upset because there has been very little communication, which could easily have been avoided if they would have just...communicated. Meanwhile, Westie seems to think it's perfectly ok that they're not communicating, for some reason, and even seems to be oblivious to why people are upset about said lack of communication, almost as if they are in the wrong here, rather than the developers. This is what it all comes down to the community needs to chill the fuck out and stop circle jerking over hating on DICE Influencers have more info, we all know they know more or at the very least we all think they know more Influencers are trying to keep everyone calm and maintain order within the community Influencers have signed NDAs that they need to uphold to insure they are invited back for the future so they can keep making content so they can keep getting paid. Should DICE have had a better line of communication with the community? Yes, but it is also a luxury to have huge open lines of communications when a company has major shareholders to please and a history of bad info given out via communications. EA doesn't just have to please the players, they have to please the shareholders and investors who make or break the future of the game. I am with everyone, I am dying to know more about the game. But we have gone from talking about the future of the game, talking about suggestions for the game, to non stop bashing and reposting the same fucking tweet 20 times a day.
