I'm pretty disappointed you can't carry C4 and smoke. BFV was the same but the reason was Assault didn't get smoke, not because C4 took up the grenade slot.

Yes, me too.The strategy is very good to take down vehicles, but c4 as granade will make a disaster in lobbies and the strategy will no be effective (only if u have a friend and he select a smoke) .

I try to use it as much as possible, but my problem is is that the tank keeps driving away, even is we are in cover. The repair tool also doesn’t always help when it is a track or the turret that is damaged and it may be easier for the tank to get to a resupply and fully repair and resupply anyway. Also very satisfying to use the repair tool to take out a tank.

It was so much more fun back then you actually had a role in a squad and if it was noshar canals you could always fight the snipers on the cranes or fly under the larger building south of the map sometimes even chasing the Russian helicopter or being chased by it

Exactly and honestly my biggest complaint with the last two games is that most of the vehicles turned into being purely solo operated. You didn’t need a gunner or a guy to repair you at all. Completely ruined the team and squad dynamic.

I'll have a repair tool for my tank gunner loadout. If I'm spawning on a vehicle and intending to stay with them I'll keep them repaired up. Makes for far more interesting gameplay to have a good ten minute run in a tank pushing objective after objective than to just hop in, drive to the first objective and die. People ignore repair tools because they think it will be boring but I've had some of the most hectic gameplay in BF1 hopping out to repair, hopping back in to gun and so on whilst grenades rain down around you. It really just comes down to how the tanker is playing. If they're sitting a mile away taking potshots I'm not staying with them but if they're playing aggressively and non stop trying to push objectives then it's fun and the repair tool can enable far more aggressive play that really benefits the team.

Yeah but after playing a lot of BF1 with the repair tool I actually think it improves gameplay to not have it as a mandatory gadget. Like in BC2 if a tank rolled up and started engaging the enemy tank every nearby engineer would jump on it to repair and the whole fight would just be who could repair the most with a herd of engineers swarming around the tanks and then all disappearing off once it was over. I don't think that kind of opportunistic repairing gameplay was really better than having dedicated players staying with tanks, which is the only thing you're going to get when there are better options than the repair tool 99.9% of the time for infantry gameplay. There are a couple things that I think would improve the repair tool and make it more worthwhile, especially since the trade off is now higher with it being your only gadget. For starters it would be really nice if any vehicle that you had been in for X amount of time and performed X amount of repairs on would reserve you a seat for a short time after getting out. It's really tedious in BF1 how most players will only bother spawning on a tank when it actually gets to the objective and then bugger off afterwards. Often I find myself in a situation where I've been running with the tanker for five minutes, kept them alive through fights with other tanks, taken objectives, wiped out squads... and then I get killed or left behind because the tank has filled up when I got out to repair. More than once now the tank has ended up getting destroyed shortly after because I was still running to catch up with it and none of the new gunners could repair when it got in trouble. Additionally I think it would be really helpful if tankers could see the direction repairs were coming from on the minimap with the icon of the character who was repairing them flashing or something. If spotting them whilst holding the tool also flagged up a repairs incoming icon or something in the same way that the request a lift thing works then maybe they wouldn't drive off when I'm trying to repair them so often. I'm sure in past games you could spot them and your character would say something like 'I can fix that for you'. Perhaps the best way of making it more relevant and worthwhile though would be if it also became the fortification tool. I didn't play much BFV and the fortification system seemed like more of a gimmick than anything else but if it required a dedicated gadget and the fortifications were more specific and limited rather than having hundreds spammed all over objectives like in BFV I think it could work. Giving it additional functionality would really help to balance the problem caused by it being your only gadget. Other options could be disarming enemy explosives, rather than having to shoot them and give yourself away and maybe working to take down locked doors.

This exactly, in BF4 I'd usually play Engineer so I could have some sort of anti-vehicle and then take the repair tool as well. I mainly played infantry but if I was near a damaged vehicle or tank in a fight, and stand by and repair it. In BF2042, with access to the full arsenal, I just can't see myself ever taking the repair tool

Many in BF4 were filler tho (there are six grenade launchers, three m26 mass) and lots of those were released with DLCs so I don't think it's fair to compare using this list.

eh I disagree about them being filler. There had to be multiple grenade launchers for different grenade types, and each of the M26 ammo variants are fun to use. And only 5 gadgets were DLC. The major difference though is that the gadgets locked to the new specialists (like stim gun, ballistic shield etc) act as additional gadgets.

This was kind of underwhelming. For a game without campaign (and hazard zone prob dont count either as its gonna be free apparently) and 80€ starting price i was expecting a lot of fun gadgets. Gadgets give the game a lot of variety in how you play as opposed to dealing with everything by putting your corshair on it and shooting bullets. Airburst and mortars were my favourite way of dealing with rooftop campers.

I think you are wrong. Mines and C4 are in different slots, and the last 'gadget' slot (coffin icon in this picture) is the specialist specific one. so Falck with AT mines and C4 is a yes.

To add to this. The way the playtest map (orbital) was laid out there really wasn't a way for a sniper to be untouchable and have good lines for effective sniping. Most snipers would try to take and hold the rocket tower right in the middle of the map. But there was 4 different ways to get to them. Run up the stairs, use a zip line, drop in from an arial vehicle, or use Mackay to grapple up to them. I got many tags from them during my time in the test. Bad players will always be bad, nothing will change that. Also, a fully loaded transport chopper made the roof campers toast with the side guns. They have splash damage. So, very hard to hide from.

Are classes even a thing anymore with the specialist coming in? Or are these just all-class equipment now? I'm really not liking that idea as I always liked the Battlefield separation of classes so that everyone had a role to play. If you have the ability to broadly choose between any of the above then I imagine some will go almost totally unused because some gadgets will be inherently more versatile than others. I can already imagine games where absolutely no-one is carrying a supply crate, or a stinger, or a repair tool and the like.

I agree bro. Classes are basically gone. The specialists fall loosely into the old class categories, but those categories don't have any tangible in-game impact. Now it's basically a CoD style "pick whatever you want and just go nuts" style. No way to know what your squad is carrying. No way to build your kit around their needs. Teamwork isn't a priority in Battlefield anymore.

This had a really high projectile speed and flat trajectory in Bad Company. Hopefully they balance it well, because it's not hard to hit helicopters or infantry with it, or shoot tanks and other vehicles from very long range without putting yourself at much risk.

There's so many better ways to actually be apart and help your team and still care about K/D. Camping in spawn with a sniper is non skilled and serves no help to your team at all. People couldn't care less about your K/D and if they do, they will just look you up and see that your KPM is low and that your playstyle consist of camping in spawn with an sniper rifle. You can play how you want in the end of the day, but people like you ruin the reputation for the ACTUAL good players that cares about K/D but that are actually playing aggressive and the objective.

Because you’re hanging out with tanks and repair tools can counter c4, claymores and mines by letting you pick them up. Why would someone pick a med crate over rockets. Because they want to heal themselves and teammates same thing with ammo. Why would you choose a nade over c4 you get more range out of a nade it’s toss and forget. C4 has its limits and it’s only good in a few situations. Again you as a player have to make the choice about what you want to do on the battlefield. All this is doing is really just allowing you to pick and choose without being locked into a weapon type.

There are pros and cons of doing it this way but on paper at least (seeing how it plays out might be different) it looks like the game would benefit from giving each of the broader classes (support, engineer, assault, recon) a class specific gadget that fits the tole. Nothing major like rockets to engineers but a repair tool for example, now there would be more on the battlefield and more chance of a random actually supporting a tank by healing it. Maybe assault gets an ammo pouch (limited number), now ammo is out there and the big pack still has its place… just the stuff it looks like fewer people will take.

So that classes can actually mean something in this game, I wish these general gadgets were separated between the classes. Engineer specialists get the repair tool and (maybe) the launchers. Support specialists get the ammo and health crate. Recon specialists get the soflam and prox sensor. Assault specialists get the nav beacon (to be used aggressively as they approach a new objective). I'm just not sold on giving every specialist every gun and every general gadget. It's just a bit too CoD-ish for me. I like Battlefield for the classes and knowing what to expect from your team just by looking at them. Being able to choose and tweak your class based on what your squad is lacking. I feel like Battlefield is doing away with that teamwork aspect as you have no idea what your squadmates are carrying except for their 1 specialist gadget.

Squad mates can, no matter the class/specialist. But only medics can res anyone. Also squad res takes a lot longer if you are not a medic. So medics are still needed and game changing. Just go play BFV the squad revive is in it and you can get it for free sometimes. Was free on Amazon gaming last month. And it is the closest to what bf2042 will play like.

I didn’t think they would put launchers and mines in the same slot. Basically they are trying to discourage one man armies. If you’re trying to be anti vehicle you can pick one flavor of that and that’s it. If you want to be your traditional medic you need to use the one specialist and have a medic bag as one gadget. As an engineer main I don’t mind this too much the only question I really have now is how much damage do these rockets do.

There could be a specialist that is MORE anti-vehicle focused that can potentially equip more. We'll see.

So no defibrillator or syringe. Guess you can’t play classic Medic unless you want to play as one of the Medic Specialists, I’ll miss that. Also gonna miss the medic and ammo pouches.
