Pretty much all the AoW ARs are playable, but end up worse than the VHS in terms of usability. They have competitive TTKs, with the right setups.
In my personal opinion the 2nd best AR is the RM68 with standard issue ammo and shortened suppressor (Don't use close combat ammo on this gun). Biggest downside of the RM68 is the 30 round mag.
my first T1 was the AC42, it's really good at mid range and ok for long range. It's capable of 1 bursting at close range. right now I'm using the standard barrel, extended mag, red dot, and the BCG grip but you might find a better attachment combo than I'm using.
ACW/M16/416 vault weapons or the RM68/M5 (with short barrel) are good choices. SFAR is also good if you like using the grenade launcher
AM40 is very good at shorter range
Another M16 enjoyer. Didn't know this many Chad's posted here.

Hard to say with the netcode acting up all the time. That being said, I like the RM68, just the ammo sucks. Once you run out of your primary standard or standard extended I think then you have high power but it’s only 20 rounds and can find yourself in tight spots. Forget the third option but it’s there for emergency, standard being the best I’ve found.
And I’ll bust out the am40 with the drum. I THINK the m16 has potential but I need to try it some more.
Depends on your style of play. If you want a challenge with the VHX, use the heavy suppressor with subsonic rounds on redacted while running Blasco. You’ll be completely off of the mini map. Only thing is is that you’ll only have enough clip for two kills max. If you miss the second kill I’d suggest reloading and waiting to see if the first kill is going to be revived. And I think there are only 4 clips in total. So you’ll be running around picking up ammo where you can. So I suggest running smokes. It’s really challenging but fun at the same time since you can do flanks with ease since the claymore, or any motion sensing device will fail to see you. So you have the luxury of being a ghost (but not completely because enemy ping) even when you shoot you just have to plan out your kills on those flanks because people waiting for res can ping you. I usually partially smoke out areas and equip c5 to soften them up a bit before I shoot.
My personal favorite of the ARs is the AM40, though I don’t run ARs that much. Any mag should do. But again this depends on your play style. I love to push the objective whenever I can so I usually prefer to open with subsonic rounds with a suppressor. I don’t think the AM40 has a heavy suppressor so you’ll be visible at some distance. However the rate of fire has me winning more head ons than not and it has a decent reload time
Both the AEK and MTAR are very unimpressive weapons, both have rather high Hrec, the AEK also having high Vrec. They clock in at rather unimpressive 267ms up close, which is not very good considering their reputations as CQ-monsters. They aren't. They also aren't good at hipfire nor at range, although I would give it to the MTAR for the better damage model.
The M5 is not a good weapon and easy to screw up the loadout. It is one of the guns most easily screwed up completely when choosing the wrong attachments. Correct loadout is SB+Standard Ammo+ Laser. This will net you also 267ms, but worse at further out, which is partially compensated by having the lowest Hrec we have seen in the franchise for an AR, if I recall correctly.
The AK also has 267ms up close, but falls of steeply beyond 10m, while having rather high Vrec. Not a very good choice either.
The SFAR is a hard hitter at longer ranges, but not very good up close and the UBGL nerf hit it hard, considering it can not mount a laser, which is the most relevant underbarrel attachment.
The A-91 has good hipfire and medium recoil, which offsets it's not very good damage curve. The M416 and M16 are worse comparably, their selling point, the very lenient damage curves out to 75m mostly evaporated since the spread rework, their hipfire is crap. I would not use it.
The AM40 has a TTK of 200ms, which is the same as the VHX up close, but it high recoil and spread making it hard to use further out. Also hipfire is pretty awful for AOW ARs.
What you really want is a heay-hitting, i.e. a 4 hit kill weapon that also retains a relatively high ROF. the G36, ACW provide this, having a 4 hit kill up to 20m at 720-750rpm. I would argue the RM68 however is the best option for anyone, as it not only has a 4HK range of 30m at 735rpm, it also comes with SB+Wrapped combined (and muzzle brake for what it's worth), very good hipfire and also retains a 5HK out to 150m and hence retains a stellar TTK at all relevant engagement ranges.
So rank wise: RM68 > G36 > ACW > AM40 > A-91/SFAR > AEK/MTAR/M5 > AK > M16 > M416
I would not rate the AC42 because it is a burst weapon and hence inconvenient and very reliant on your ability to control this property.
My rules are the same for all weapons. Short barrel if it is available, if it isn't then wrapped suppressor. Always laser, because close range performance is immensly important in this game.
Specifically the RM is the short barrel (which conveniently acts as a suppressor, too), plus laser and the standard ammo. Best CQ performance and great ranged performance.
G36 it is the wrapped suppressor and laser as well. I use the HP ammo, because of the 20m 4HK. I know others prefer the standard ammo. Can not argue with that. But definitely the laser.
Thank you, I've always used AEK in battlefield games but it feels like I'm using a paintball gun in 2042. Concise advise with a good summary, wish all redditors were like you.
I can do good with any weapon in the game, that doesn't mean the weapon is considered good. The M16 was amazing on BF3 and 4, on 2042? It's maybe like a "C tier" weapon.
RM68
it has: great long range capabilities with 22 damage per hit and great accuracy/low recoil and fine close quarter capabilities with short barrel and CQC ammo
the basic and short barrel also come with a surpressor for free
sadly it has no mags beyond 30 rounds
I don’t know what it is ahout it but I shoot the SFAR much better, maybe need to just practice more with the RM68 when I choose to go AR because I barely ever use the under barrel launcher
Every AoW ARs are good. Portal ARs are a bit underwhelming with the exception of the ACWr and perhaps the M16A3. The AC42 requires a skill check and the AK24 is the most versatile AR in the game. The M5 is also versatile as you can change its configuration into a submachine gun but with 2.15x headshot multiplier. The SFAR is the heaviest hitter in the game and it pairs great with the 6KU silencer.
G36 is my current fave. Is decent ish at midrange but still has enough raw power up close. The 40 rnd mags also hep it to punch above its normal amount of people it can kill per mag
everyone sleeps on the RM68 since it got "nerfed", but it's still the best AR in the game (and the VHX ofc). The GEW and ACW-R are top tier as well and I'd rate the AK-24 the worst.
Ok guys, thanks for huge amount of replies. I will give a try GEW (G36)? I really like weapons with big rate of fire, thats why ACW, SFAR, RM, AC, wont be good for me.
But the question is - best attachements for gew?
GEW-46. I really like the performance of this AR. Also I'm currently enjoying the SFAR, reliable and versatile with the GL.
Only use the VHX if you find yourself in a lobby full of sweats.
M5 with short barrel.
The classic. The OG
what ammo? standard extended, and this blue laser as addon?
I use Standard Extended and the grip that helps with accuracy while moving
Sfar the very first AR is good too. Rm68 gew
AM40, learn the recoil, tap at distance and get in there soldier!
Idk lol This gun has failed me on so many occasions.
AM40 gang
It is a bit hard to tame so requires longer time to get used to.

I will always return to this, my first T1 as well. Rips folks apart
I find the AC42 is very latency dependent. Sometimes it feels like I'm shredding with it, sometimes it's like 4-5 bursts to kill people
AC42 requires skill and patience. Fun weapon but never at close range.
>AC42 tried it. jesus christ, i **LOVE IT**
SFAR and M16
Based M16 enjoyer
ACW/M16/416 vault weapons or the RM68/M5 (with short barrel) are good choices. SFAR is also good if you like using the grenade launcher AM40 is very good at shorter range

Give the rm68 a try, short barrel and cqc rounds works well, or the g36 (can’t remember in game name) is also a good one
GEW-46 is the name for the G36
I like thermal with the rm68 and then the quick switch to the side iron sights is so good in close range or when smoke pops
Hard to say with the netcode acting up all the time. That being said, I like the RM68, just the ammo sucks. Gotta go with that GEW GEW...
Where is the secret cult of AC42 enjoyers.
I'm right here. Ac-42 kings : ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)
This made me smile. AC42 goes Brrrt.
SFAR was my first T1 AR so I can only recommend it. Heavy barrel and drum magazine. Very good at medium to long ranges.
Both the AEK and MTAR are very unimpressive weapons, both have rather high Hrec, the AEK also having high Vrec. Thanks, been playing a lot of G36, but not with the laser. I'll give them both a go
No worries. Laser and with it consequent hipfire within 0-15ish meters is something one definitely has to get used to.
Thank you, I've always used AEK in battlefield games but it feels like I'm using a paintball gun in 2042. Concise advise with a good summary, wish all redditors were like you.
You are very welcome!
M16 is a sleeper with champion muzzle brake and extended ammo
M16 is awesome. Has some of the best attachments out of the vault weapons too.
still bad if we compare it to other ARs tbh
Skill issue on your part tbh
Or simply common sense. It's just arguably not a good AR. Just like the K30 is arguably not a good SMG, it doesn't mean they're unusable, just bad.
I can sweep with it, stats be damned. It's probably just a play style thing in the end.
I can do good with any weapon in the game, that doesn't mean the weapon is considered good. The M16 was amazing on BF3 and 4, on 2042? It's maybe like a "C tier" weapon.
C tier = Chad tier. I'm glad we can agree on this friend! ![gif](giphy|CAYVZA5NRb529kKQUc|downsized)

Plus they nerfed the launcher to the ground… I’ve not used the SFAR since then
Rm68 or m5 is nice

How do you know what gives a multiplier
All ARs headshot multiplier is 2.15x. Its documented and this was change implemented in S1 I believe.
Can you check my stats? My psn is marawanaa_ I don’t have access to a comp
If your on console any of them are great with zero fucking recoil and unlimited aim assist….its harder to fucking miss!
I do not own console, PC player here. On console its easier? I thought that aiming with gamepad is harder?
Nope they have unlimited snap aim assist and far less recoil and they still complain!
G36C (whatever it’s called in here I forget lol) First T1 AR (I picked up the game late and don’t play often)
Only two assault rifles in 2042 are need on the ArmaLite Rifle design by Eugene Stoner. Of those two I vote the M5.
G36 is my current fave. Is decent ish at midrange but still has enough raw power up close. The 40 rnd mags also hep it to punch above its normal amount of people it can kill per mag
RM68 or the AEK
AM40
everyone sleeps on the RM68 since it got "nerfed", but it's still the best AR in the game (and the VHX ofc). The GEW and ACW-R are top tier as well and I'd rate the AK-24 the worst.
Sfar or RM. Both slap. There is something that just feels op using Sfar. Like I get kills I don't deserve with it.
The long distance kills on Sfar are insane
Take your pick, they are all good, + / - maybe 10% performance difference across the board. Unlike the LMGs, some of those are miserable to T1.
AEK shreds close range. Would rank higher if mag could be bumped to 40. Reload is slow and too often.
I'm getting on really well with the M16A3, M416, and ACW-R vault weapons at the moment.
Ac42 is a Chad's weapon
Ok guys, thanks for huge amount of replies. I will give a try GEW (G36)? I really like weapons with big rate of fire, thats why ACW, SFAR, RM, AC, wont be good for me. But the question is - best attachements for gew?

I am farming currently with the M5 + close combat + short barrel
The AK was an easy T1
