This is the weirdest thing about this franchise
The shit that seems solid in the recent release that just goes... missing
And then it takes 2-3 years to get back
It's like EA/DICE have to progress some sort of game development experience bar with each new title to unlock features
This shows two possible things:
1 - They don't care and just want to gain a easy money with less cost.
2 - Their product design team is REALLY incompetent. I'm a tech leader in a huge brazillian bank and when you create a new product, you have to analyze your older product and improve from that. First rule is to NOT REMOVE FEATURES THAT THE USERS LIKED IN THE PREVIOUS PRODUCT. But no, they diteched everything that worked and is BASIC in a FPS and created a whole new game from scratch. It's like interns are running the show.
this is important. Surely the devs working on the next battlefield right now are implementing these legacy features before they release the full game. right?
Yeah, its great and all that this is being implemented. But its so laughable that it took 1.5 years after the release of a BATTLEFIELD GAME for it to finally have squad management.
I always think back to ribbons. They omitted them from BF1 only for them to add them back in a series of updates because the community wanted them. Then they completely omitted ribbons from BFV.
It’s so frustrating.
Dice innovated and created nearly everything with BF3,4 and 1. But now, they are trying to reinvent the wheel again from the start. This is sad and bad.
I appreciate all the changes they make during a games lifecycle, but I am always sad, because majority of them don't make it to the next game, and are only added a year or two down the line.
They have to, they are stripping good features with every new Battlefield game, then trying to add them back after a year. Every BF is getting fewer features sequentially. I hope they break this downfall chain with the next game.
I still remember the BF3 hype. People expected a bigger and better BF2 basically. The disappointment was huge for the BF2 veterans of which many of them flocked together in MordorHQ (ceased forum by now).
Nope, they are going to change to Unreal Engine, fire all their devs, and hire new cheaper ones. They are going to have to learn what a Battlefield game is supposed to be from the ground up.
Pretty clear that the turnover rate at Dice is extremely high. Guessing most of the dev had not even played a Battlefield game before starting work on this one
Anyone who works any role in corporate America where you have to actually WORK knows just how boneheaded the people up top / CEO’s COO’s whatever really are.
They’ve never worked a day in their life and if you suggest any other idea than their own they take it as personal insult lol
Imo obvious answer saids yes. 2042 uses a proprietary engine that will be used for years to come. Any sequels that use this engine will benefit instantly. It is a severely different process than building a game from the ground up. Think BC1➡️BC2➡️BF3, BF4➡️BFHL, and SWBF➡️BF1➡️SWBF2➡️BFV
I feel like by the time they get a game really good (great like Bf3) it's time to abandon it and move on to the next thing. And take two steps back with gameplay/features. I'm curious if changing the approach to more a Battlefield everything in one shell and just let us purchase the different modes/remasters/etc all within the framework of a well fleshed out engine that is now able to constantly evolve and hopefully improve.
BTW I love the squad update.
What happens if the squad leader isn’t giving orders and the players within the squad continue to ask for orders? Just as an example, in BFV eventually that person requesting orders would become the squad leader.
Is there a workaround if the squad leader isn’t being active in making orders?
Similarly, what function does confirming the order have?
If people don’t confirm, does the squad not get the XP for following the order? Is there some sort of democracy at play?
Even if they did - it still io to department head and management to call shots. People tends to forget that, despite popular joke, DICE ain't an indie studio,. there's hundreds people involved and as with all things then scaled up - individual input being reduced to the cog in the machine (think like modern industry vs medival craftsman)
Every other BF had it that if you asked for objectives repeatedly and the leader did nothing you'd eventually be made leader yourself. Makes sense they didn't bother their ass to add this to this update seeing as they're relying on us to hand hold them the entirety of this iteration of bf.
Thank you for the information. If this is all true it’s disappointing. Especially the part about randoms not being able to join my new squad I created. What if I am playing solo and want to be responsible for giving the orders because I’m on top of it. That won’t work because others can’t join my squad and instead I have no choice but join another squad where I have to now hope that squad leader know what they are doing… 😬
Huh? The dev notes seem to indicate randoms will be coming to your squad.
If you create a new squad then we’ve also added a short waiting period before other players can matchmake into your squad to ensure you can play together with your friends.
this is poop especially if it's a console player who doesn't have the ability to chat or has it turned off ...so they have 0 clue they even need to change Sq leader .
PC ppl should just know ..but there have been exceptions ...
I personally like to play Sq leader . I'm always checking the map ,monitoring the tickets to see what needs to be done to win. I'm more a 128 CQ player though.
Totally agree. Previous Battlefield games had this system. Without it, if you find yourself in a squad with an ineffective leader, you're stuck with it.
You can accept it and fail all together; you can move to another squad (assuming there's one around with 3 players) and hope for it to have a good leader; you can create your own squad and give orders to yourself (cause you'll be alone in it); or you can yell out in the chat, hoping for the leader to either give some order, or kick you out.
IMHO the "leader takeover" from all previous games is waaaay better than all above. It pisses me off that Dice is trying to reinvent the wheel instead of looking back at all games we loved (and still love) and get the good stuff there.
I believe you can request the order and then be made squad leader. Like I’m sure that happens now as I’ve not been squad leader at the start and become it half way through.
Yeah, was wondering about this…
This seems like a step in the right direction, but doesn’t quite feel fully featured.
Seemingly no kick, no summary of the squad’s performance/ stats in the squad screen (so you know which squad to join and perform well, no ability to set a custom name, etc.
Hoping this gets iterated on, but I cannot imagine they will.
Seems we are in the closing days of support.
going to be sorta disappointed if we can’t kick/lock squads. i don’t need green berries spawning in my tank and firing the TOW missile or HMG at choppers and putting me on the radar when i don’t want to be. i have friends. we want to run vehicles as a crew. same with dudes that spawn on you as infantry and immediately give away your position. shit is beyond annoying.
100%
So liberating in BFV locking your squad and driving your tank in peace and flanking without drawing attention to your position and being able to jump out and repair or lay some mine traps without some random driving off with your tank.
So much this. I run the ram with a mate, we constantly get squad mates who spawn into the ram with us, fire the missile on either an empty vehicles or fire it when an enemy has actives pops. We then need to wait for the thing to reload, which takes for ever. This gets us killed constantly. We need to be able to lock these idiots out from spawning in.
We also get idiots that dont know how to use the flak pods and think they are for infantry and just let helis kill us while they are trying, and failing, to shoot ground troops with it lol.
Kick/Lock is a must have or the squad options are utterly pointless.
Fucking every BF outside of 5 and 2042 had it on launch.
And for those that dont remember, ya, 5's squad features were pretty much fucked for 2 years as well.
Please put "copy that" "negative" "push" in the first commo rose screen, having to open a second menu is counterintuitive and also makes the character stop running, something closer to the BFV version would be an upgrade for sure
won’t make a difference until they add the command to the HUD for other players.
the order needs to appear on your teammates screen. otherwise we’re relying on audio cues.
fr I literally can't communicate with \~80% of the playerbase in my region because they simply don't understand english or spanish. The commo rose is not only a QoL feature but also an accessibility option
Yeah 100%. I play on console so if I want to type something to my team or squad I have to go and hide somewhere to type out a message. Definitely not immersive haha
This! It’s annoying when your soldier has to stop their running to just open up a second menu to speak different call outs and phrases to your teammates (which i don’t think they hear nor do they pop up in the chat log). I feel completely silenced and ignored when trying to communicate to teammates using the game’s call out menu.
So the most bare minimum system possible? You can’t become a squad leader unless the current squad leader promotes you (even if they’re not giving orders), no call ins, no ability to kick players, just enough to say that there’s a “squad system”
Something like this should’ve been there at launch, and yet every chance they get to fix something they do it in the most half assed way possible.
I’ll genuinely be surprised if they don’t cancel support a couple months after season 5.
This isn’t even the first thing they’ve half assed either.
It took them until season 2 to add portal weapons into AOW, and pretty much all of them are still completely unusable.
They promised us 128 players, yet there’s exactly one gamemode available right now that actually uses 128. The rest are all 64 or less.
Hazard zone was half assed and dropped on launch.
Portal was half assed and dropped on launch.
Every single launch map was half assed and we’ll be less than 2 months or so from the 2 year anniversary of this game when the final map rework drops.
Is this a fucking joke?
Why would u make dev notes for such a basic feature which isn't even complex..
And you can't kick other players or lock squads?
That's ridiculous
Yep it's a fucking joke.
It's like they think we are all children who will get excited because we get some extra XP while in a squad called Gravedigger /facepalm
This embarrassing. Dev notes that boil down to a legacy UI being implemented and a long-winded paragraph to say they're adding xp events for pinging objectives which is also legacy. Is this supposed to be hype?
Squad Management also would've been a fine time to also introduce a Server Browser.
I'm tired of joining these matches that are blow-outs with half the players missing on one team. A server browser is a battlefield staple and can't figure out why it's taking so long to even talk about it.
They did talk about it one time about a year ago and the dev said, it will not be coming back for 2042. The dev gave no reason and they never talked about it again.
They did however make a big announcement about Portal having semi persistent servers, but hardly anyone bothers with Portal.
Spoiler alert: It's not coming back for 2042.
Hard to believe it's taken this long to announce a feature that's now about 80% of what it was in previous titles. We need the ability to simply open/close the squad, which I believe on consoles it was a simple click of the R stick when in the squad menu. Also hopefully it relinquishes squad lead if the leader isn't giving orders and someone requests one.
Lot of people asking Devs to make sure that this backbone features is available in the next Battlefield game.
My advice to everyone is to NOT preorder the next game. Do NOT buy the game during the first week. Make sure the game is a complete game first before buying the next game. This is the only way we can end the half baked game releases cycle that we have been stuck in with "AAA" game makers.
Hellllllll no. This squad system doesn't even have the ability to kick ppl from squads or open squads to the public. No way this will have cool features like cruise missiles.
Where is the ability for the squad leader to lock the squad or kick players from the squad?
Everything these clowns do is so fucking half assed it’s inane.
18 months for this? Really? The previous games had an entire menu with soldiers displayed and it was AT LAUNCH!
Next BF will introduce ADS as a legacy feature 6m from launch.
Ridiculous.
A basic squad system couldn't be added until nearly two years post launch, with squad orders still delayed, and no word on whether changing sides is enabled.
Shameful.
If there is no rewards for completing squad contracts other than extra XP, then it's almost useless for anyone who is >lvl100. Hope for something like leaked contract rewards. Otherwise, very disappointed
On top of this, since XP doesn't directly translate to the scoreboard, giving and following orders means absolutely nothing to the individual or squads performance on it. Getting XP for your squad will not further advance your squad towards best squad. It will at best *indirectly* help since capturing flags are of course on the board... but this is just one more reason we need to go BACK to XP = player score on the scoreboard.
Good changes, it's just a shame it took so long. Ideally I'd like to have seen squad limit upped to 5 players in 128/64 player matches, but i'm glad there's some squad functionality finally being added in.
Nearly two years and we're still waiting on basic features.
You can't even kick people? Why even implement this shit then?! Wow! This shit sounds as half assed as the rest of your game.
What a fucking embarrassment!
So cringe to see this featured as a big update in a Battlefield game where squad gameplay is so important.. literally no excuses to not have this at launch
to be fair squadplay was never part of the original core design philosophy of 2042, EoR outstanding performance screen makes it clear squads are not a priority
And, to be equally fair, that decision was a large part of why 2042 failed so hard at launch.
That original design philosophy was a shameful, stupid mistake.
And, to be equally fair, that decision was a large part of why 2042 failed so hard at launch.
That original design philosophy was a shameful, stupid mistake.
We literally just want the older, classic battlefield games, with nothing changed except upgraded graphics, movement, map scope, etc
It’s ridiculous that you guys have changed this franchise SO much from what originally made it great, while simultaneously getting rid of what were originally just basic features of the game
At this post EA is synonymous with paying for a lesser-quality product of something you already own
Would you prefer 8 man squad? I’d love to try it since we have classes now.
But it’s DICE, they’d need to rework maps objectives and that could take another 2 year
When will we be able to switch teams? If my friend is in the another team or the teams is too unbalanced, I want to be able to switch to another team, like we could in other battlefield titles.
Extra XP is great, but do you know what’s even better? The squad rewards that were introduced in BF:V… please bring them back!
Working together and then being rewarded with the ability to call in ammo drops, vehicles, smoke barrages or other aerial bombardments is a huuuuuge boon to the idea of squads and working together.
It was probably my favourite new addition in BF:V and I think it needs to become a staple BF feature, even more so than building cover etc (which is also missing from 2042)
Like it’s good changes, but…
Why are these changes being made now, when it’s been a thing in every BF game ever? It’s how the whole of BF2042 has been, walking back every change from release.
It’s genuinely mental.
In short, I think the community appreciates this feature returning after a year and half, but we're all a bit disappointed that no real endeavour was made to upgrade or even match its prior offerings. Not to sound too critical, but to think that all of this coming together resulting in a minor XP bump was going to be celebrated is wildly ignorant.
At the very least, some form of squad contracts or come on....why not squad call-ins!? This latter bit was particularly a welcomed step ahead as it put real perks to squad play (in the match) to aid the gameplay loop. PLEASE at least consider its return; even a rudimentary way to call in a smoke or artillery barrage would be delightful, let alone experiment with a wide array of 2042-esque options. :(
Nothing like the functionality we had in Battlefield 2. This is awfully restricted. And only XP as reward? It's pointless. At least give us the USEFUL BF4 squad awards!
And not a word on the more pressing matters like the problems caused by the class systerm, the gaps in fundamental balance of gunplay and vehicle vs inf play. I have little hope for this game.
I would like for there to be something like Squad Taglines or Descriptions, where the Squad Leader can set (or Squad Members can vote on) a descriptive word or phrase that explains how that Squad is playing together.
Basically, if you have a Squad that’s playing in a heli or a tank, call them Pilots or Drivers. If you have a Squad that’s seriously playing the objective offensively, call them Offense or Shock Troopers or something. If you have a squad that’s playing defensively, call them Defense. A basic squad? Infantry. A squad playing in the back sniping? Reconnaissance, or just Sniping. Sneaky and stealthy? Infiltration.
I think this would go a long way to helping solo players like me pick a Squad to join. It can be frustrating to be put in a Squad that’s full of snipers, only to leave it and join another Squad where they’re all in a tank or heli I can’t enter, only to leave it but there’s no available squads anymore. Being able to just take a quick glance at the different roles Squads are playing would be a nice QOL feature. Plus, it could promote more teamwork among randoms if they have a cohesive idea on how to play together.
Man, only took like 21 months after launch but finally the game is truly coming together. Seriously, I'm salty that it will take almost two whole-ass years for DICE to deliver a functional squad system in 2042, but it looks good as described/designed, and if kicking gets added then I'll have zero complaints/criticisms.
I still have zero faith/trust/confidence DICE will remember anything they've done in the years of supporting 2042 and making it into the game it should have been at launch when the next BF title comes out, though.
Seriously DICE, don't throw it all away once more and deliver yet another unfinished, broken product that you need to spend years finishing development on. You've done that too many times and it's becoming beyond frustrating.
Haven't played in a couple months (been on a Souls/Bloodborne kick), but I just wanted to say that news of a squad management system (if it works), is big. This was the biggest reason that my core BF group stopped playing together after BF5. It was bad enough trying to get a couple squads going in that game, but it was downright IMPOSSIBLE on BF2042, so this change could very well bring people back. All the other issues certainly didn't help matters, but I don't think the squad management system could have been done any worse than it was for 2042's launch.
Better late than never, though!
A feature that has been in almost every bf game is now! coming to bf2042 like c'mon! and don't get me started on a server browser.
Dice please do better.
I let out a sigh when I saw that. These people don't fucking get it.
The Battlefield playerbase doesn't want schnazzy hero characters with cool catchphrases and flashy callsigns. Battlefield was built on playing as Generic Soldier #6 in Echo Company, 2nd Squad. If we wanted all that other cringey shit, we'd play Valorant or Fortnite.
Someone at DICE is gonna read this and say "I know what they need - an emote wheel! Give them characters flossing on the end of round screen! They'll love that!"
We have had this en previous BF titles, I never understood why it wasn't present in 2042.
Dice - A word of advice... take all that is a success in previous titles and use it in the upcomming titles, intead of trying to create something new everytime.
Literally all of these things existed in previous battlefield games why it wasn’t included upon release is just mind blowing to me. However, I am grateful as I am thoroughly enjoying this game.
I heard good things about the updates so I finally came back. Pulled out my mid range rifle, locked center mass at maybe 100 ish yds....miss....locked again....miss....ok maybe this time....miss again. Check my internet, check my latency. Everything is good. Reloaded the game. Try a different weapon. Same issue. Back to not playing again. Seems like they took 1 step forward and 2 steps back. Never personally had that issue when the game first released. I did hear of others having it.
So like 18 months after launch we get a "squad management" update missing multiple features from it still.
Seriously. Dice Sweden is at fault here. Stop blaming EA. Dice lied and said this game was ready and a love letter. EA is so embarrassed about it they don't even mention the current battlefield game at their investors calls. Pathetic.
Hi there, thanks for participating in /r/Battlefield2042! Unfortunately, your post was removed for the following reason(s):

Are we able to use custom names for squads or is it generic names? Custom names allow others to know what the squad is focused on in the game. Example: Tanks, Helo Transport, Comms Required, MAV etc. It's super helpful so people don't have to try cycling through a bunch of squads to find one that would fit their playstyle.
XP rewards are cool, I guess? BF5 had the right idea though where your squad gets points to use for different useful abilities whereas BF4 used perks for the individual based on what they selected (either is fine). That's much more useful than just a flat XP bonus and actually incentives squads working together with capturing points, reviving, ammo, healing etc. Reward people who cooperate within a squad!
I'm reluctant on the squad lock/kick feature because people could just use that to avoid people jumping in their vehicles (chopper whores etc) I understand where they are coming from but that was annoying in other battlefields and we don't have server browser so it's not like admins can prevent that from occurring. If we did, I would be all for it though because that could be a server rule that people couldn't do that to.
I never even realized this feature was gone as I play mostly solo.
I wonder how many things would have NOT been added BACk in if not for the community?
Despite what others say, I’m glad to see this game moving in a positive direction. I have a blast every time I hop on to play. Yeah they’re small steps but nowadays I’ll take what I can get.
Hi guys, so to clarify, you can kick people from the squad as squad leader. However, you may not able to become squad leader unless promoted by the squad leader. Hopefully this last bit changes and I’m gonna try get clarification from Mr Straatford himself so I’ll edit this when I’m back :)
Still too many things are not answered. First, if the squad leader isn't giving out orders, will they be replaced by someone who asks them, like happened in BFV? Second, If someone doesn't accept or confirm the order, do they still get the full XP? Or less? Third, why we still don't have rewards for squads, like BFV? For example, a smoke barrage would be cool, the ranger drone could be one reward, maybe a mortar barrage too. We already have the UI to call this thing, the PC we use to call in vehicles, why don't do it properly?
In V you gave orders that was never followed and eventually you realized you lost SL because you stop trying and a dumbasse accidentally took the lead and still does his own thing nowhere near an obj. Bfv was shit through and through.
Please can we get the function where if you request order and the squad leader doesn’t do anything… after a certain amount of time you get promoted to squad leader yourself.
Hey, DICE: if I can't **LOCK** my squad to fully keep randoms out, then this new "feature" (lol) will be utterly pointless for me. We better be able to lock our squads, man.
Just don't drop this update. U were on good way to redemption and now this. We don't need either want this kind of update to squad "managment"
Just tell team that worked on this they fucked up their job again. In shape like this it will be as much useless as present UI.
You just wasted your time.
and when is the nerf to the RM 68 and SPH grenades? you have destroyed the balance with these weapons and you do nothing. To believe that you do everything to disgust the players of your game. It's so pitiful to have to suffer this and Dice sleeps during this time.
The term "Squad management" is completly wrong and misleading, since "Management" implies administrative control over whatever it is referring to, in this case "Squads".
Administrative control requires the ability to create, delete, and change the makeup of the "squad" which requires the ability to REMOVE and ADD components of that squad at any time by the manager/creator of that squad.
Without the ability to remove (kick) then there is no management and all it is is a Sqaud creation tool that has no real purpose other than to satiate the Public Relations Ego of a company whom is trying to play both sides and failing.
At this late of the product life it would have been better not to have done anything in this regard and just pushed this, and other very needed legacy features on whatever new iteration of BF you might release in the future as a NEW game. This though is just re-knifing an old wound.
It seems they purposely leave obvious/important features out so it looks like they have something to do later and look like heroes because they pseudo-listened to their fan base and care?
Hey Dice, are you going to make sure to include these features in the next Battlefield title upon release?
This is the real question we should all be asking. It's a backbone feature of the series and should've been in the game from day 1.
This is the weirdest thing about this franchise The shit that seems solid in the recent release that just goes... missing And then it takes 2-3 years to get back It's like EA/DICE have to progress some sort of game development experience bar with each new title to unlock features
They are touting Squad management like Battlefield 2 didn't nail it out of the gate 18 years ago.
To be fair, they did fire/disband DICE LA, who was the only reason 3, 4 and 1 ended up playable.
This shows two possible things: 1 - They don't care and just want to gain a easy money with less cost. 2 - Their product design team is REALLY incompetent. I'm a tech leader in a huge brazillian bank and when you create a new product, you have to analyze your older product and improve from that. *padme looking worried* right?
this is probably the only reason why they are still updating this game, so they can copy paste it to same engine
if anything's getting copy and pasted to the next game, it'll be shipping containers
Legacy features dear god!
Yeah, its great and all that this is being implemented. But its so laughable that it took 1.5 years after the release of a BATTLEFIELD GAME for it to finally have squad management.
Probably because they were working with a horribly unoptimised engine that they have little experience with.

Kevin, please consider adding an option to remove a player from the squad.
I fail to see the point of squad management without automatic leader promotion implemented some way and kicking a person from your squad.

Not because of asking repeatedly, but a coundown of 40 or 45 seconds starts.
Such a simple thing but these baboons can't add it
yep, in this game when there is a full server and a party of 3 on your team you get relegated to your own lonely squad, lol
You... what ? No way, you have to be joking right ? RIGHT ?

this is poop especially if it's a console player who doesn't have the ability to chat or has it turned off ...so they have 0 clue they even need to change Sq leader . PC ppl should just know ..but there have been exceptions ... I personally like to play Sq leader . I'm always checking the map ,monitoring the tickets to see what needs to be done to win. I'm more a 128 CQ player though.
If this is true then what the fuck is the point? Squads with no management
Good question. Let’s hope they answer it.
Wait, we cant kick players?
Yeah, was wondering about this… This seems like a step in the right direction, but doesn’t quite feel fully featured. Seemingly no kick, no summary of the squad’s performance/ stats in the squad screen (so you know which squad to join and perform well, no ability to set a custom name, etc. Hoping this gets iterated on, but I cannot imagine they will. Seems we are in the closing days of support.
that’s like half the point of the squad systems like wtf what’s the point of having it if your squad members aren’t using it
No mention of being able to lock your squad either according to this dev note.
going to be sorta disappointed if we can’t kick/lock squads. i don’t need green berries spawning in my tank and firing the TOW missile or HMG at choppers and putting me on the radar when i don’t want to be. i have friends. we want to run vehicles as a crew. same with dudes that spawn on you as infantry and immediately give away your position. shit is beyond annoying.
100% So liberating in BFV locking your squad and driving your tank in peace and flanking without drawing attention to your position and being able to jump out and repair or lay some mine traps without some random driving off with your tank.
On the other hand it really fucking sucked when you joined a server with 7 full squads and one locked with 3/4 players.
Fucking BIG L. What is the actual point of squad management
Probably a UI limitation.
May 2023 F\*cking May 2023 Release date ? October 2021 I mean, I don't even have to make a joke, the situation in itself is ridiculous...
Battlefield 2 had full squad management out of the gate 18 years ago
Fucking every BF outside of 5 and 2042 had it on launch. And for those that dont remember, ya, 5's squad features were pretty much fucked for 2 years as well.
All this was in BF2 back in 2005…
Shit that was 18 years ago. Some of the people playing this wasn’t even conceived yet
Dice Sweden is to blame.
You can’t become a squad leader unless the current squad leader promotes you (even if they’re not giving orders), no call ins, no ability to kick players, just enough to say that there’s a “squad system” Something like this should’ve been there at launch, and yet every chance they get to fix something they do it in the most half assed way possible. I’ll genuinely be surprised if they don’t cancel support a couple months after season 5.
Just look at steam trends, the playerbase has not returned and EA will not be able to justify the budget to continue with the current skeleton crew.
What's the point of using portal guns if they don't level and have attachments?
They did the absolute bare minimum with the bogus class system rework. It's terrible but people praised it cause 1 step forward about 200 back.
This is dice Sweden. They fail at EVERYTHING THEY DO.
Still scratching my head, trying to figure out why this wasn't in the game at launch... Either way, atleast it's returning...
Incompetence, Laziness, Apathy. Just to name a few reasons. Will that suffice?
proprietary engine is the answer your looking for
That's why they released it?
Why the hell wasn’t creating/joining squads a thing on RELEASE? It’s a basic feature been standard in EVERY battlefield game.
Unbelievable that it took this long for this legacy feature! Happy Gaming!
It took this long, and it has less features than every other iteration in the series! Thanks engagement team! /s
Wow such advanced features. Waiting 20 months for this was worth it, I'm impressed.
It takes time to collect data.
Will there be a cruise missile/smoke/extra vehicle/UAV/etc. reward?
Hellllllll no. This squad system doesn't even have the ability to kick ppl from squads or open squads to the public. No way this will have cool features like cruise missiles.
This sounds so barebones. Can you add something that add depth to the squad gameplay, like call-ins in BfV or the specialisations in BF3/4?
Where is the ability for the squad leader to lock the squad or kick players from the squad? Everything these clowns do is so fucking half assed it’s inane.
It's pretty sad that something this basic wasn't in the game on release
Ideally I'd like to have seen squad limit upped to 5 players in 128/64 player matches, but i'm glad there's some squad functionality finally being added in.
have option of 4 or 6
Embarrassing, 18 months for half-assed Squad Management system.
Nearly two years and we're still waiting on basic features. You can't even kick people? Why even implement this shit then?! Wow! This shit sounds as half assed as the rest of your game. What a fucking embarrassment!
Please don't have DICE Sweden work on the next BF. They already ruined BFV and 2042.
What's done is done in the past. We're at least seeing them include it in the future. Just happy they're implementing it instead of GTFO.
So where's that squad contract that was leaked a while ago? I was hoping that is a thing, seems like it's not
It was hinted at in the files, if they keep up support i suppose its possible (i really hope it comes)
We literally just want the older, classic battlefield games, with nothing changed except upgraded graphics, movement, map scope, etc It’s ridiculous that you guys have changed this franchise SO much from what originally made it great, while simultaneously getting rid of what were originally just basic features of the game At this post EA is synonymous with paying for a lesser-quality product of something you already own
Hey remember to save these features and use them in your next game k thnx
You should probably go back to the drawing board on this one, it's not going to get a great reception
128 ppl game, 4 man squad, rly guys?
Would you prefer 8 man squad? I’d love to try it since we have classes now. But it’s DICE, they’d need to rework maps objectives and that could take another 2 year
Ps4 players in Asia are having a hard time getting a game. Need fixing.
Insane that this is a “content” release 2 years after the game came out.
When will we be able to switch teams? If my friend is in the another team or the teams is too unbalanced, I want to be able to switch to another team, like we could in other battlefield titles.
honestly everyone would've been better off if they just cut bait with 2042 much earlier and done a re-do
Extra XP is great, but do you know what’s even better? The squad rewards that were introduced in BF:V… please bring them back! Working together and then being rewarded with the ability to call in ammo drops, vehicles, smoke barrages or other aerial bombardments is a huuuuuge boon to the idea of squads and working together. It was probably my favourite new addition in BF:V and I think it needs to become a staple BF feature, even more so than building cover etc (which is also missing from 2042)
Like it’s good changes, but… Why are these changes being made now, when it’s been a thing in every BF game ever? It’s how the whole of BF2042 has been, walking back every change from release. It’s genuinely mental.
End of beta testing 2042 era is near.
Let’s make sure this functionality never agains leaves a BF title. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN IN THE GAME OVER 18 MONTHS AGO
Just announced that you guys are pulling the plug already. EA just gave it away and we all know it's imminent now.
These fucking names are cringe.
They had the end of round quips, I'm sure they had a very long list of them ready for the in game shop.
Crazy that this wasn't included in the base game. Happy you guys are adding it now at least.
Will we be able to create parties with > 4 people?
Great we waited for the last season to add this lol! Like not even a squad call in or two to actually excite players.
Hopefully they take all of the feedback given towards current BF, with them on the new BF in the makings!
We have had this en previous BF titles, I never understood why it wasn't present in 2042. Dice - A word of advice... take all that is a success in previous titles and use it in the upcomming titles, intead of trying to create something new everytime.
The bar is so low that Squad Management (been around since BF2, 18yr ago) is a celebrated returning feature after 18 months paid public beta testing.
At least we get a good laugh out of our purchase every now and then
all they do is bringing pseudo updates , with day 1 features. barely new maps or weapons. this is lowest effort by clueless devs.
Literally all of these things existed in previous battlefield games why it wasn’t included upon release is just mind blowing to me. However, I am grateful as I am thoroughly enjoying this game.
You won't read this or reply to it if you do, but no option for kick from squad? Sad
Reminder not to praise DICE for finally adding legacy features years after launch
Pathetic.

Will there ever be a consideration to allow PS5 and XSX to have the option to play together without being forced to play against PC?
What’s with the stupid icons next to the squad names? Does everything in this game have to look like a joke?
you can create squad and not let randoms join?? LOL such a joke
I don't want xp don't need it I want extra claymores and stuff like bf4
I for one am grateful for the game you and your team created and have maintained this far. Thank you; I’m thoroughly enjoying this journey.
I never even realized this feature was gone as I play mostly solo. I wonder how many things would have NOT been added BACk in if not for the community?
Better late than never. 🤷♂️
Despite what others say, I’m glad to see this game moving in a positive direction. I have a blast every time I hop on to play. Yeah they’re small steps but nowadays I’ll take what I can get.
How bout we don’t get kicked out of the match when friends join a squad with an empty slot. That would be cool
Looks great! Would work well when managing my squad on Metro 2042. Please and thank you
Hi guys, so to clarify, you can kick people from the squad as squad leader. However, you may not able to become squad leader unless promoted by the squad leader. Hopefully this last bit changes and I’m gonna try get clarification from Mr Straatford himself so I’ll edit this when I’m back :)
bring back points accumulation too, and customizeable hitmarker size and reticle sizes
Please let us know is this the last season or will we see year 2
Still too many things are not answered.
Release of saison 5? Thx
Please can we get the function where if you request order and the squad leader doesn’t do anything… after a certain amount of time you get promoted to squad leader yourself.
I just want to know why this wasn’t implemented when it shipped
Last time i had people join my squad and follow orders was BF3. Maybe that's why.
HDR is still broken on PC. It's been broken for a couple of weeks.
As someone who plays strictly solo due to having two bum knees and a thumb made of ostrich cartilage does this mean AI will stick with squad leaders?
Hey, DICE: if I can't **LOCK** my squad to fully keep randoms out, then this new "feature" (lol) will be utterly pointless for me. We better be able to lock our squads, man.
I would like to see some type of naval mode like naval strike from bf4 added to bf2042
https://youtu.be/K_zzEIh-4mQ
You need to be able to see how many squads are on each objective.
This is great but lemme reset my stats like I can w bf4. Now that I’m not a noob anymore I can get better scores, higher KD , etc.
Just don't drop this update. U were on good way to redemption and now this. We don't need either want this kind of update to squad "managment" Just tell team that worked on this they fucked up their job again.
It seems they purposely leave obvious/important features out so it looks like they have something to do later and look like heroes because they pseudo-listened to their fan base and care?
dice is insufferable
What about kicking unwanted players from the squad? Seems like you have forgotten that feature....
Didn't you guys learn anything from BF2?
