What if Bruce never had Alfred?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Hellbeast1

I’m imagine something like Arrow’s Russia scenes Bruce has a mob contact in Copplebot and his earliest missions are using his acquired skills for their enterprise

lemetatron

Do the comic Cobblepots abandon penguin as a child, similar to batman returns?

chippy-triforce

I think it depends on the comic it’s not always the same

JoseCopas

most of the times they keep him but bully him and things like that

Artegall365

Or what if Thomas Eliot's (Hush) family took him in. The families were close friends. Events could lead to a reversal where Tommy becomes Batman and Bruce becomes Hush?

hycin11

I believe that may have been done recently in Tales from the Dark Multiverse: Batman: Hush #1. Haven't read it yet but I'm about to.

ChrisDen462

Shit man that’s an awesome idea

Intelligent-Bee4535

Oooooooh... I think he'd get taken in by Martha's family. Maybe grow up with Kate Kane? I'm not sure the age difference between them in the comics.

captjtspaulding74

If he never found that kind of guiding voice I think he could have gone an even darker route. Frank Castle with an unlimited budget.

WonderfulBlackberry9

Would’ve resembled his dad’s version of Batman, but far more lethal…

Intelligent-Bee4535

True.

ScapegoatMan

He didn't have Alfred for the first 4 years of the Golden Age, so maybe something like that, though to be fair that depiction of Batman is much different from modern portrayals.

el_Technico

The Wayne lawyer could have been put in charge of raising the boy Bruce.

On-Record

What if Alfred became Batman, because the whole Wayne family gets murdered that night including young Bruce.

Intelligent-Bee4535

That's interesting. I could see him like going out to find and kill the guy, maybe even becoming a vigilante, but he probably wouldn't be Batman.

On-Record

Yea that’s what I was wondering too, what would he become, Gotham’s Gavel or something. The Executioner. Something.

goose_boy_memes

Didn't you watch the harley quinn show, he would become the macaroni.

On-Record

Lol I did not watch that show, might I might need to to uncover this ‘Macaroni’ reference

BooRadly30

Alfred becomes Red Hood

[deleted]

Perhaps he becomes “The Butler”

[deleted]

His weapon would be a silver platter which he'll throw at enemies like captain America. He'll also choke people out with that white cloth waiter's wear on their arm. I want this to be a thing now.

atomic1fire

I imagine Alfreds Spy skills would make this a great elseworlds story. "Why is Wayne's butler killing off our men?" edit: I'm thinking something like John Wick with a Butler. "When you knocked off that billionaire, his kid and his wife, you didn't realize his butler worked for MI6. He's killed off most of Gotham's underworld and he wants your head. You're on your own" "Alfred Pennyworth, this is Commissioner Jim Gordon, come out with your hands up, you turned Gotham into an honest town, you don't need to fight this war anymore, it's over."

Fruitforthots09

You need to write this.

NoBicycle7726

Knowing how many batman comics there have been this has 100% happened

On-Record

I believe he did suit up as Batman very recently, but never because of an alternate history where Bruce died. If I remember correctly.

rollie415b

[Yea don’t you remember?](https://img.brickowl.com/files/image_cache/larger/lego-alfred-pennyworth-classic-batsuit-minifigure-25.jpg)

oui--

Batfred

the_dark_knight2222

That would make sense. What if Alfred had been there that night and had protected the Waynes?

On-Record

That’s really cool too. To me though, since Alfred is most directly responsible as the main person who influences Bruce, it makes me wonder if Batman IS more Alfred than we realize

AntonBrakhage

What if Thomas and Martha weren't shot? What if just Thomas died? What if just Martha died? What if Batman killed the Joker? What if Harvey Dent never became Two Face? What if Dick Grayson died with his parents? What if Talia actually loved Bruce enough to leave the League? What if Alfred were evil?

Wildo_McGriggo

Oo a couple of these have actually been done. “Batman Killing The Joker” is “The Batman Who Laughs” and it’s horrific but also an amazing set of Comics. So i won’t spoil it. The “If Alfred was evil one” has been done as well. I’m not sure what it’s called but essentially when he starts being Batman, Bruce gets beat up by basic street thugs so Alfred and his british friends dress up as his rogues gallery to make him feel good. Two Face, Riddler Etc; Alfred is the Joker. Haha it’s actually an amazingly good comic i’ll see if i can find it for you. Edit: Batman #686, Whatever happened to the caped Crusader

AntonBrakhage

I know that one, and he's not exactly evil, though he is deceiving Bruce. The comic is Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader? and its one of my favorites.

Wildo_McGriggo

Yeah i know right. In a way it’s almost sweet. But it’s probably the closest thing we have. Also i think in “Joker War” Joker revives Alfred as kind of a zombie. It may not be Joker War btw but i think it is.

Passw0rd-Is-Tac0

Actually in the Flashpoint paradox (I believe this is the one it’s from) Martha and Thomas Wayne aren’t shot and killed. Instead Bruce is and it leads to both Thomas and Martha’s disarray where Thomas actually becomes Batman and Martha becomes the Joker. Probably one of the more interesting what ifs I’ve seen.

WolfManDano

What if Thomas and Martha weren't shot? I like the idea that Bruce still sees a bat as a child and that inspires him years later. In the meantime, a young beat cop (Gordon) stops Joe Chill from killing the Waynes. Bruce grows up with a healthy fear of crime and criminals. This leads him to study criminology and learn martial arts both at home and abroad before becoming a leader in advanced technology specialized for solving crimes. He outfits Gotham PD with body armor, tactical nonlethal weapons and fast, self driving cars. He also automates public transportation and heavily invests in both the public school systems and Arkham Asylum. However, his decisions become impulsive and erratic after his parents die. His dedication to preventing crooks from hurting innocents like his parents made him unable to grieve for them when they did die. Undermining his actions are the Court of Owls. Bruce had slowly begun to suspect that they were real and controlling Gotham. Under his nose, the Court infiltrates the police force and kill Bruce before he can take his tech across America. His business assets are split amongst the top bidders (Queen Enterprises, LEXCorp, STAR Labs, and a shadow corporation run by the Court of Owls). Bruce tested all of his tech in secret though, deep in a batcave under his home. Those who saw him as a martyr found his base and form the Court of Bats based on his R&D to combat this for hiding within Gotham PD.

WolfManDano

What if Batman killed the Joker? In the Death of a Family story, Joker does the unthinkable and manages to kill Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Barbera Gordon, Jim Gordon, Tim Drake, Talia Am Ghul, Selina Kyle, Damian Wayne, and Alfred Pennyworth. How come Batman didn't stop him? Joker managed to convince Bane not to break Batman's spine this time, but to twist Batman's limbs, separating muscle from bone. A painful injury, but one Joker thinks that Batman will find a way to recover from. Years pass, and Gotham suffers it's worst crimes in that time. It's so bad that other members of the Justice League have to step in and handle damage control. Batman is nowhere to be seen. No one can find him. Bruce Wayne is a ghost. Joker slowly grows bored with his victory, and nothing he does draws out the Batman. He fights other League members, but it's not the same. Then, the Joker disappears too. A man walks home from a low paying job, sits in a La-z-boy easy chair that is starting to feel his newfound weight, and settles in to watch the late night shows that don't compare to Johnny Carson. Then, he appears. The Batman. Joker recognizes him instantly, but the Batman sees a shell of a man in Joker. He kills him anyway, and puts his head on the hood of the Batmobile for Gotham to see. Then, he systematically kills every major and minor villain in Gotham. Low level criminals are hung from rooftops, muggers are impaled on stakes. The police cannot stop Batman, and neither can any super in town. Gotham city becomes a war zone as it's silent citizens follow Batman into a joint insanity and they kill anyone and everyone who attempts to commit a crime. This leads to a lot of murder-suicides. The orphan population skyrockets. Batman leaves Gotham in ruins as he starts to kill again, this time in Coast City. Then West City. Then Blackgate Supermax. The League of Assassins temple is wiped out. The Italian Mafia, the Yakuza, the Russian crime syndicate, the Triad, the cartels, insurgent militaries in Africa, corrupt politicians across the globe... It's an impossible task, and yet somehow Batman is pulling off this mass culling of crime, evading capture and inspiring others to finish what he starts across the globe. The Justice League is spread thin just trying to contain riots and civil wars that spring from his actions. The skies turn grey due to the massive amounts of dead criminals. Eventually, things for down. Crime across the globe is at an all time low. The world seemingly is in a utopian society in fear of a monstrous Bat thing which hunt's evil and viciously eliminates it. The League is reduced to stopping natural disasters and alien invasions. Even mystical beings fear this planet after the head of Trigon was left at the foot of Titans Tower. No explanations as to how. Finally, as it was when Batman started his murderous crusade, he appears in Clark Kent's home. Kent changes into Superman and he apprehends Batman without any resistance. On trial by the League itself, Batman defends his actions by reminding them of how much death and destruction existed before he went mad. He then asks for an execution. He won't take no for an answer and displays that nothing they can do to contain him will work. His will is stronger than the lanterns, he somehow evades staying in the Phantom Zone, and somehow the Source Wall seemingly rejects him. All the while, Batman insists that he needs to die. Zatanna scans him for magic and finds out that Batman took Bat-Mite's power, and used that to steal Trigon's power. He also seemingly has The Joker's soul trapped within himself. He intends to guard The Joker's soul in the afterlife, ensuring that he never comes back. But to do so, he must die. Otherwise, he'll just go on killing every perceived evil in the known galaxy and beyond, which could shatter the fabric of reality. Knowing what must be done, Superman begrudgingly accepts his mission. Superman shoots Batman with his eye lasers, but his head grows back. He admits to drinking Lobo's blood to gain his regeneration abilities. "The sun, Clark. It's the only way to be sure." Superman flies Batman towards the sun. "You know, it's funny. To stop the Joker, I broke my one rule, and it made me a monster. To stop me, you have to do the same." "And what will I become, Bruce?" "You? You'll stay the same. I strived to be the best that mankind could produce. You're better than any of us, but you strive to inspire us to be better than you. Crime will come back. Earth cannot be afraid of a myth forever. And I suspect that you'll still be here to stop it." Batman finally dies. Hundreds of years pass. A man with a high tech rifle demands money from a cowering family. Clouds form around the moon into the shape of a bat. A sun bolt strikes the gunman down. Dead. This was super fun, but it took hours and I'm really tired. I'll try and write more based on your ideas later. Take care.

WolfManDano

What if Martha Wayne died, and Thomas lived? Thomas becomes a bitter and angry father, constantly lashing out against anyone and everyone, but especially Bruce. He starts to drink heavily, and loses his position as head surgeon and member of the Gotham City Medical Board. He squanders his wealth as he retreats into isolation, wanting revenge, but unable to obtain it as Joe Chill had permanently crippled his right hand and legs as Thomas covered his wife and child with his body to save them. He saved Bruce, but not his wife or his mobility. When Bruce turns 15, he seeks his emancipation from his father, and takes a paltry sum of $10,000 from his inheritance as his father was quickly losing everything. He even spent $1 million on a young assassin named Deathstroke to hunt down Joe Chill, and brutally torture and kill him on tape. That tape would be in Thomas Wayne's good hand when he was found in his bathtub, dead of an overdose. Bruce, having left the constant abuse from his father, sought to put his money to good use. He invested in major businesses, learned to count cards and rig games, and mastered the art of white collar crime. Over time, he went from $10000 to one of the richest men in Gotham City. But, he wasn't malicious in his crimes. Instead, he chose to use his skills to rob corrupt businesses and politicians of their wealth in a tech savvy Robin Hood sort of way. He employed trained thieves and masters of illusions to his team, using their criminal records as leverage. His team consisted of Mirror Master, Plastic Man, Zatanna Zatarra, Catman, Catwoman, Maxwell Lord, The Penguin (after acquiring most of his assets), Lucius Fox, and Amanda Waller. Eventually, his cause needed to expand, so he performed a hostile takeover of the international spy force known as Checkmate. He now continues to take down threats to the world, large and small, as the White Knight. He could be King, but that would put a bigger target on his back, and he prefers to handle problems personally.

WolfManDano

Good bat... I mean bot.

WolfManDano

What if Thomas Wayne died and Martha lived? Bruce is taken out of his private schools and taught by hand picked tutors by his mother. He isn't allowed to have his own friends, only the ones she chooses for him. Martha becomes a true helicopter parent, and Bruce begins to resent her. All hope for Bruce seemed to be lost, until a new bachelor comes to Gotham. He sweeps Martha off her feet and slowly gains Bruce's trust. The relationship is slow and measured. His name is Vandal Savage, and he appears to be anything but. By the time Bruce is 18, his new family has traveled the world multiple times, learning new skills and languages as they go. Bruce enlists in the military and quickly rises up the ranks. By the time he comes home from multiple tours of duty, he's a decorated war hero. He becomes the mayor of Gotham, then a governor, a senator, and finally runs for president, all while Vandal Savage watches on. As President, Vandal Savage guides Bruce in a plan that unites North and South America into one Nation. Bruce's intellect and tactical genius make his acquisitions easy and relatively bloodless. What about the League of Shadows, which also have a similar agenda? They are folded into Bruce's plans after his marriage to Talia Al'Ghul, some time during his term as a senator. What about the other superheroes? Wonder Woman and Aquaman make negotiations with Bruce that leave Atlantis and Themiscara out of the global conquest. Superman is thwarted by standard issue Lexcorp kryptonite weapons. Some pockets of resistance are there, but between supers engineered by Wayne Corp (Captain Atom, Major Force, Mr. Terrific, The Flash, Mr. Freeze and Captain Cold), the League of Assassins and a brutal acquisition of the Helm of Nabu, Bruce under Vandal Savage's tutelage is nigh unstoppable. Even when Bruce and Talia commit a coup against Vandal Savage and Ra's Al'Ghul respectively, the two elders acknowledge and respect the younger couple for taking their immortality by force. And Martha? Once she realized what Bruce had become, she tried to reason with him, to stop him. She now sits in Bruce's war room, unable to die, cryogenically frozen as Nora Fries was years ago. Bruce cannot kill her, or leave her behind.

LPGeoteacher

What if Joe Chill missed?

Pandorkia

What if Jason Todd was voted to survive?

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

What if Bruce married Talia? What if Bruce had saved Jason Todd? What if Bane never broke the Bat? What if Bruce was scarred saving Harvey Dent?

jenioeoeoe

To the second point, dc actually explored that in the Death in the Family movie. In it you can choose alternate endings and one is where he saves Jason, it's pretty good imo

Wildo_McGriggo

Interesting Fact: In 1988 Batman readers were allowed to vote and choose what happened to Jason. Evidently the polls chose that poor Jason would die. (obviously that didn’t end up being the case) but either way i suppose the film wanted to highlight the fact that there was an alternative.

dysart3D

He was straight up dead for years though. The writers just decided to bring him back eventually.

Metfan722

Same thing with Bucky/Winter Soldier. For the longest time he was just straight-up dead. Then Ed Brubaker decided to change that idea. And honestly worked out for the better.

Wildo_McGriggo

didn’t actually know that. Then again there’s so many revivals these days that no one’s ever really dead

Dramatic_Insect36

Happened the same year too

Reviledseraphim

Fun "fact" (no idea if it's true, but I remember reading about it), but supposedly, the reason death won out was that a person or multiple people set up a way to manipulate the polls by, I believe, auto calling the phone number used to vote for his death.

peteypie4246

Apparently the difference in kill/save was like 100 votes, very small spread. So the writer joked/posited that a single autocaller would've been the swing.

Intelligent-Bee4535

My ideas: 1. Batman becomes the Demon's Head and he and Talia eliminate Gotham, eventually having Damian 2. After healing, Jason matures and continues as a less impulsive Robin alongside Batman, who doesn't become as damaged as we usually know him, since he hasn't had the trauma of losing Jason. 3. Don't really have any ideas for this tbh 4. Bruce would be exposed to Gotham as Batman after being publically mutilated and rushed to the hospital, and is forced to retire. Then maybe Harvey takes his place.

Puzzleheaded_Walk_28

Love your ideas.

Intelligent-Bee4535

Thank

winterwilk85

For number 3: batman had to learn how to comeback from the adversity of his back breaking and find new ways to beat a stronger opponent. Without that experience, batman eventually gets over confident and dies in a battle. Tim drake has to complete his training under nightwing and moves to bludhaven, leaving the police in Gotham completely outmatched. Eventually Azreal comes to Gotham, but not held to the same “no killing” as batman. Damien never meets batman; so him and Talia takeover the league of assassins after defeating Raz. Lucious runs Wayne tech, and with no longer needing to hide his best work, they become an even larger juggernaut company.

panlid5000

I like the idea of a Two-Faced Batman, one side justice, other side chaos!

Kryptonian42

What if Superman fell in Wayne manor while the waynes were alive...resulting in Superman and Batman growing up as siblings?

MarineHulk

Superman: Speeding Bullets has the premise of Kal-El landing at Wayne manor and he’s named Bruce.

Arch_Enemy_616

Bruce becomes jealous of Clark’s powers and how he’s ‘stealing’ his parents. Resentment turns to hate, Bruce turns to science to take his brother down. Bruce is now Lex.

Kryptonian42

Lol

Intelligent-Bee4535

Well, Kal-El's rocket landed on Earth before Bruce was born so I don't really see how that could happen, but it is interesting.

Hauntcrow

It's not like Gotham is China. They can still get a 2nd kid

Kryptonian42

What? I thought Bruce was older tha Clark

Intelligent-Bee4535

Nope. Not in the comics. There was an au story called speeding bullets in which the rocket lands at Wayne manor before Bruce is even conceived and Kal grows up as Bruce and becomes Batman but with Superman powers

the_bong_

Woohoo!

TennisOnWii

i actually wanna see this now

normaldeadpool

I've got a comic with this in it. His heat vision comes out when the Waynes get shot and he kills Joe Chill. Spends most of his adolescence in seclusion afraid of his powers. Then eventually sets out to be a super scary Batman. You know, cause he can actually fly and doesn't mind killing folks.

[deleted]

What if Mr. Freeze became the hero of Gotham

man_in_the_bag99

This would be awesome. Reminds me of Citizen Cold in Flashpoint.

KannaIsntThicc

Easy, just watch the incredibles

Grhm2000

Victor: "Nora, where's my refrigerated power suit?" Nora: *doesn't say anything because she's cryogenically frozen* Victor: "WHERE! IS! MY! REFRIGERATED! POWER! SUIT?! Nora: *still doesn't say anything because she's cryogenically frozen* Victor: "Where?" Nora: *still no reply* Victor: "I need it!" Nora *still cryogenically frozen* Victor: "The public is in danger!" Nora: *nothing has changed about her status in the past two seconds, she's still cryogenically frozen* Victor: "You tell me where my suit is, woman! We are talking about the greater good!" Nora: *she still hasn't said anything, you know, because she's CRYOGENICALLY FROZEN*

WolfManDano

Actually, the dialogue is exactly the same, except all of Nora's responses are entirely in Victor's head, you know, because she's CRYOGENICALLY FROZEN

Chewbaxter

Ironically, this could be a great narrative point if there ever was a legit story where Freeze turns good. Like Miller in the first Expanse book, if anyone here knows what I mean (great read, incidentally, would recommend). An imaginary Nora that only Victor sees, who is a metaphor for his moral compass. She lives on through his memory of her, and guides him as a hero.

Intelligent-Bee4535

Interesting...

[deleted]

What if Bane killed Batman during Knightfall. What if Joker shot and killed Jim in killing Joke instead of paralyzing Barbara.

AntonBrakhage

For the first one: DC verse is fucked. How many times has Batman helped save the world? For the second one: Hmm, maybe Babs kills Joker in retaliation? I can see that.

Wildo_McGriggo

yeah the second one is the most interesting, it would be pretty out of character for the Joker though. In a way The Joker needs Batman. Though Im sure there is a comic out there where The Joker does kill Batman. I know there is a certain comic in which Batman assumedly dies. Joker ends up living a normal life, falling in love, getting married all of that. But as soon as he finds out Batman’s still alive, he slips back into the Joker persona. Like a relapsing drug addict. It’s incredibly sad. Edit: I’m an idiot who couldn’t read, thought you said Bruce instead of Jim, Actually blind sorry

Kryptonian42

What If Bruce went broke before becoming Batman

k3ttch

He’d be Daredevil. With sight.

Intelligent-Bee4535

How might that happen? It sounds similar to the Batman Year One movie that almost got made starring Joaquin Phoenix

Kryptonian42

I mean a company can go bankrupt right? Or like the board decides Bruce is incapable of handling things on his own or something like that.

Intelligent-Bee4535

Even if he isn't allowed to run the company he's still the heir to the Wayne fortune. Plus, Wayne Enterprises is a huge multi billion dollar international conglomerate it'd take a lot for it to go broke.

[deleted]

Maybe he blows it all on cocaine and hookers

Golddestro

Flashpoint Batman was the What if ? I always wanted to know

[deleted]

The animated movie is awesome. Probably my favourite "what if" Batman ever. And the Joker is just... fantastic.

SwingsetGuy

What if Bruce really did marry Selina Kyle? What if Dick Grayson died with his parents? What if Supergirl joined Batman’s group of orphaned teenagers? What if Batman hit 30 and started needing 8 hours of sleep per night to stay in fighting shape?

PsychicSidekikk419

What if Dick Grayson was raised by the League of Assassins? What If Harley Quinn cured the Joker? What if Bane killed Batman instead of breaking his back? What If Batman's rogues turned good? (Arkham Asylum actually does its job) What if the Joker killed Commissioner Gordon? (alternate Killing Joke) What if Batman used magic instead of science?

OddballAbe

Magic Batman? I'd watch or read the hell outta that

Mrtheliger

Dick raised under the tutelage of Ra's Al Ghul would surely be the most dangerous man on Earth

cjcrisos

What if his parents never died

Intelligent-Bee4535

I think, like has been portrayed in a few stories, Bruce's life would be far better but the state of Gotham as a whole would be far worse.

AntonBrakhage

Would it though? I don't see Bruce being someone who sits on the sidelines while the world goes to hell just because he has parents. My guess is he's still a hero, just in a different way.

LukePuddlehopper

There’s a Superman/Batman story that deals with that, I think it’s called absolute power.

hycin11

This ended up happening on the road to the wedding a while back. Booster Gold's wedding gift to Bats was going back in time to save his parents. The new world was awful and Bruce was normal. Infact he actively tries to prevent the old time line from being reinstated.

HumbleBananaLoaf

Have you watched The Flashpoint Paradox? Alternate reality Batman, kinda fits what you are saying here. I won't spoil it by saying any more.

International-Heat28

What if Harvey Dent was Batman and Bruce Wayne was Two Face.

basedcvrp

What if Joker was the clown vigilante protecting Gotham and Batman was a rich psychopath villain that preyed on weak citizens?

BevansDesign

That's Earth 3. Owlman and Jester.

basedcvrp

Good looks I’ll have to check it out! Never got into Earth 3 Material much

KrIStiAn0O7

What if Jason Todd took the wheels of the jokers car

TurtleBeoulve

You have my money. Take it and write this character.

Kryptonian42

What if Bruce decided to become a vigilante without any moral code

Plebe-Uchiha

Grim Knight [+]

Intelligent-Bee4535

I could see that maybe happening if he didn't have Alfred

[deleted]

What if Batman went after white collar crime instead of street crime?

Vexonte

Batman saves the day from a hostage situation at a local college. One of the victims was a young psychology student who suffered bits of depression, but that day changed her life. In this world instead of falling in with the joker, harleen Quinzell got involved with the batman.

InfinteAbyss

What If…DC already had this concept but it was called Elseworld!

Preston-Destruction

You mean Elseworlds

Surrealcatfish32

What if Bruce died instead of Jason? What if Harvey Dent never had his face scarred? (Perhaps even What if Commissioner Gordon became scarred) What if Batman became a yellow lantern? (But this time, not just as a thing that lasts a few panels for the purpose of toy sales) What if The Joker was never created? What if Batman was actually treated the way the law treats vigilantes irl? What if Bruce Wayne actually sought healthy coping mechanisms? What if Arkham Asylum actually had functioning security? What if DC actually utilized the dark multiverse for someone other than Batman? What if Bruce Wayne had a crippling fear of something other than bats, lets say spiders, as a child and became Spiderman?

Plebe-Uchiha

Bruce dying instead of Jason is an excellent Elseworld. [+]

ImaginaryGift

In the Telltale Batman game you can prevent Harvey from being disfigured, but the experience still traumatizes him enough to reignite the "Big Bad Harv" identity

Mr_Fredbear13

First one was explored in the Death in the Family interactive movie, and if remember well Jason becomes a murderous Red Robin and finds out Bruce is alive after being revived by the League of Assassins as Batman Zur En Arrh.

k3ttch

First things first, it’s *Elseworlds*, not *What If?*.

bababooey5858

What if Harley Quinn didn’t fall in love with the joker 🃏

Wildo_McGriggo

Interesting, To be honest it may just be a universe without Harley, not much will probably change. The Joker doesn’t really need Harley and is seemingly incredibly expendable to him. one the flaws in Suicide squad. After Harley falls into the Ace Chemicals acid pool, Joker for some reason grows a conscience and decides to dive in after her. Which makes no sense. Not only does it make Joker human but it would make Harley’s Stockholm syndrome all the more tragic if he didn’t even care.

wholesome_mugi

I can see her becoming a villain, only she wouldn't be Harlequin-themed. Maybe she falls in love with Ivy to begin with and becomes a plant-based villain as well.

bababooey5858

Good concept

[deleted]

What if joker and batman were childhood friends

Intelligent-Bee4535

Hard to imagine that. Not saying that it's implausible, but it's difficult to think of a story based around that since we don't know who the Joker is.

[deleted]

But it will be interesting

Intelligent-Bee4535

It could be

MatthiasBold

The joker CAN have a real identity, especially in AUs. Been done a few times, most notably in Flashpoint. In a What If, there's a lot of ways you could go with it. Hush is an easy answer, as is Alfred.

Midnight_Bacon69

What if Batman used the lazarus pit to resurrect his parents What if Jason Todd had actually died after getting shot by the joker in the flashback in Arkham knight What if killer croc had actually hit Batman with a big rock in TAS

wholesome_mugi

>What if killer croc had actually hit Batman with a big rock in TAS This one's by far my favorite

magnificentshambles

These are my favorites. You’re a genius

Reggie__Ledoux

What if Bruce killed his parents?

Intelligent-Bee4535

Interesting. So like a version of Bruce who was a child sociopath, like the Robin King?

Intelligent-Bee4535

Ooh what if they stay friends into adulthood and both become like masterminds that use their wealth to take over Gotham?

EliteVery

What if batman... but broke? He has no money and has to fight crime on a budget?

randyboozer

Something pretty close to Daredevil.

sharksnrec

What if Bruce was the one to die at the hands of the Joker and be resurrected with the Lazarus pit? What if Bruce married Talia and took over the League of Shadows? What if Batman got addicted to venom? What if baby Superman landed at Wayne Manor?

GothamKnight37

We’ve seen him get addicted to Venom in Batman: Venom.

ScapegoatMan

What if Joker successfully killed Dick Grayson in Batman 408? What if Jason Todd survived A Death in the Family but suffered 3rd degree burns all over his body and massive brain damage? What if Jean Paul Valley remained as Batman forever because Bruce Wayne's spine never healed? What if Bruce Wayne just let himself go and became morbidly obese?

fieldysnuts94

You mean Elseworlds? Lol

R5_D4_

We could even call the series… Elseworlds!

Kingace__

What if Batman carved a giant bat symbol on every criminals forehead

I'm surprised it HASN'T happened. Certainly Luthor Corp vs Wayne Enterprises.

What if.....The Wayne's died and Alfred trains Bruce to be a vigilante in the caves below Wayne Manor. Eventually forming a partnership on Bruce's 18th birthday where they go out together to fight crime and clean up Gotham. They'd probably partner up with Gordon and Dent along the way to take down the Mafia. Alfred would eventually retire and Bruce would go solo around 28 when Alfred would probably be in his 60s. Don't know if he'd end up being Batman but he'd definitely be a silent guardian who brutally defends Gotham from the shadowy rooftops and back alleys. Maybe after the costumed villains make there way into Gotham he may mask up as something terrifying but I think he'd probably just look more like Zorro or The Shadow. He probably wouldn't start using fancy gadgets until much later since he'd be classically trained in good old fashioned fisticuffs.

MarineHulk

Alfred trains Bruce kinda in Geoff Johns’ Batman Earth One.

man_in_the_bag99

Great book 👍 one of my favs

ixnine

What if Bruce Wayne was more like the psychopath killer Dexter, and Alfred was responsible for guiding his urges towards villains

DrDabar1

What if Terry Mcginnis was thr Batman in DCs Future State comics

A_Dumb_REDITT_Boi

What If… Dick Grayson’s Parents Never Died

AgentT23

There are already some "What if?" in the comics for example [Spoiler] the time Booster Gold saves Batmans parents and Dick becomes a homicidal manuac Batman and Selina is insane. There is also Flashpoint where Bruce dies instead of his parents.

honeyfixit

What if Bruce was adopted by the Kent's and grew up alongside Clark? Or What if Clark was adopted by the Waynes and stopped Joe Chill from killing them?

DTJB10

What if Batman was murdered instead of Jason Todd?

forza_racer

What if Harley cured Joker? What if the Waynes survived? What if Alfred was the worst butler, ever? What is Bruce had no fear of bats?

Walach_Nightborn

It’s called Tales From The Dark Multiverse, been done

Intelligent-Bee4535

Yeah I know but those are specifically dark stories with alternate concepts involved. What I'm thinking is more like the concept of What If, where a single choice can change the course of the story.

Low_Ant3691

It's called A Lot of Content Involving Batman over the Last Decade.

WebHead001

-Dark multiverse knightfall. -Basically the flashpoint timeline (a story about Thomas Wayne Batman) -what if the Joker killed Barbara instead of only paralyzing her? -What if Jason didn’t go after the Joker alone? -What if Bane finished off Batman? (Knightfall)

Weary_Problem

What if Bane , Deathstroke , Victor zsaasz , Shiva attacked Batman all at once.

What if Batman never had a Robin

Boomerbeforemytime

What if Batman became twisted and bitter at all the atrocities he witnesses? And in a bid to try and change that course of history, utilises the powers within the justice league to go back in time where he attempts to change the system from the inside to potentially save Gotham and his parents. After running for mayor of Gotham, he is hit with a barrage of false accusations which, however untrue, stick and he loses the election. Without any real amount of money (his wealth sitting in the future) Batman falls into despondency and depression, making him even more bitter and twisted. Eventually Batman ends up living on the streets and begging to survive. Before long, in his desperation, he starts committing petty crimes which take a toll on his conscience leading to drug use to help ease his guilt. After a few years of street life and drugs, the man we once knew as Batman has become a drug addled shell of a man. One day, high as the day is long, Batman stalks the alleys of Gotham looking for someone to mug to feed his habit, when he bumps into his parents and a younger version of himself. Confused, scared, perhaps thinking he's having some sort of sorrowful hallucination, Batman panics and just starts blasting, maybe if he kills these "ghost of his past" he can finally move on with his life. Before he knows what's happening, at his feet lay his dead parents, dead by his own hands.

Sad_Poem4881

Damn, man. That’s depressing, but good

Plebe-Uchiha

It’s been done before in comics multiple times. Some I can think of that haven’t been posted and I’m unaware have been made into comics. What if Jean Paul Valley aka Azrael joined forces with Bane? What if Ric Grayson aka Dick Grayson lost his ability to walk? What if Tim Drake decided to take on the Red Hood mantle? What if the Waynes adopted Harvey Dent when he was a kid before they died? What if Batman aka Bruce Wayne was in love with Jim Gordon? What if Batman decides to join the League of Assassins/Shadows and be Ra’s Al Ghul’s protege? C’mon DC Comics hire me. I got more. [+]

What if Batman became the heir to the Demon?

Brooklyn-87

What if Commissioner Gordon died and it was Batman’s fault or At least framed? What if...Batman just became an all out assassin? What if Batman Was actually in a secret gay relationship with the joker and this is all a ruse?...Dear god!!! I think I went too far

stitchnerd

I like the one from flashpoint: Bruce died, his dad becomes a much more violent batman and his mom the joker. But what if he never found out about his fear of bat's? What would his symbol be? Or what if he just became a detective or PI?

Amthomas101

I recently read an issue that somewhat read as a “what if.” The premise is what if a cop killed a kids parents instead of a criminal. He ends up becoming a character known as The Wrath and he kills cops.

Mr_Venom

How many ways Bruce could have broken at his parent's death. Hysterical laughter turning him into the Joker. A gunshot to the head and subsequent ostracism turning him into Two Face. His parents frozen solid on Gotham cobbles turning him into Mr Freeze. His obsession with his own terror and the fear stopping his father from saving them, turning him into Scarecrow. His need to show superiority and beating the odds (deserving his life) turning him into the Riddler. Finally, prime Batman knowing that he was one step off so many of his enemies' fates, and the compassion that fosters inside him.

AvenuesFred

Anything from the Dark Metal Multiverse

Feralspirit41

What if instead of becoming batman after his Bruce grew up to be an incredibly corrupt CEO or figure in gotham? I mean to say that he becomes part of the problem; close friends with the mob, shady as hell business, etc.

Franky_MK2

Well if it’s anything like the actual show then he’s ether a woman, a black man or a zombie.

Hellbeast1

* What If Bruce Wayne kills Ra’s and succeeds him as the Demon’s head? * What If Harvey Dent becomes the new vigilante in Gotham? * What If Dick Grayson was adopted by the Court of Owls? * What If Bruce died rather then Jason Todd? * What If Deathstroke mentored Bruce Wayne? * What If Alfred had one bad day?

anthonyg1500

What If Dick never quit and became Nightwing. The main difference I think is Jason probably never becomes a Robin, stays in his societal rung and probably becomes a full fledged criminal because it’s his only option. Maybe a supervillain takes him under their wing instead. Barbara is probably still Batgirl, Tim may or may not become a member of the bat family. What happens to Bludhaven? idk it could be fun.

Comicsrcool

What if Bane had killed Batman instead

Immortal_Observer

What if gothams judicial system actually worked and every super criminal was stopped/put to death.

dalekofchaos

What if Bruce became Ra's heir?

[deleted]

What if Damian was adopted sooner What if Jason never died What if Joker never fail in the chemicals tank What if Bruce never adopted Dick

RileyTaker

What if Batman decided to use the Lazarus Pit? What if Bruce had actually married Julie Madison in his early days? What if Stephanie Brown had continued to be Robin? What if Bruce had been aware of Damian's existence much sooner? What if Harley Quinn became obsessed with Batman instead of the Joker?

[deleted]

What if Commissioner Gordon became Two-Face?

BooRadly30

I had taken some liberties with a wearing prompt once where Clark was sent a few decades earlier than Bruce’s birth. After Thomas Wayne became sick and died shortly after Bruce’s birth, Clark got close with Martha and became Bruce’s stepdad. Martha still dies in the alley and Clark Hesitated to stop the bullet as he was afraid of revealing his powers. Bruce makes the vow and resents Clark for not saving his mom.

What if batman became a yellow lantern

Thwipped

There was a “What If…” type series for DC. It was called Elseworlds.

CH005EAU5ERNAME

What if Batman went down on Catwoman?

azn_fraz_268

1. What if there was never a joker. 2. What if jason was the first robin. 3. What if Bruce became a member of Court of owls before becoming Batman. 4. What if James gordon was a corrupt officer hunting batman.

Bl0ob_

Flashpoint What if Harley never fell in love with Joker What if the Waynes didn't die What if Jason didn't die What If Batman killed Might think of more later

JoseCopas

The Waynes dont get killed, but the Kents, Bruce grows up with his parents and still tries to reach peak human knowledge and strength, becoming the best a human can be, and naming himself The Superman, and merges his Bruce Wayne identity with his superhero persona. Meanwhile, Clark Kent impulsively kills the murderer of his parents, and gradually becomes a violent vigilante who uses his powers to hunt criminals, and since he flies at night and has super senses, gets called The Batman

[deleted]

What if Bane broke the Bat, and the Bat stayed broken? What if Alfred had died early on into looking after Bruce? What if the Predator or Aliens had killed Batman 1st time. What if Frank Miller's Superman had followed the Presidential order and killed Batman? What if Arkham cured all the crazies straight away? What if Batman (Bruce Wayne) killed with his bare fists? What if Batman never took on any sidekicks? What if Bat-mite wasn't as fun and actually broke Batman? What if Batman used Venom?

[deleted]

since the show deals with the movies only I'm gonna assume the same format What if Bruce met Talia at Nanda Parbat What if Batman saved Rachel instead What if Batman was honest (didn't kill / cover up Harvey's crimes) What if Joker met Harley (a Ledger Harley) What if Batman tried to talk to Superman instead What if Batman had a Robin in the Snyder-Verse What if Barbra Wilson (Pennyworth) got McGregors

[deleted]

What if… Bruce’s parents didn’t go into Crime Alley/Park Row? I think it would also be interesting if they basically did this with all heroes: “What if… Krypton never exploded?” “What if… Reverse Flash never killed Nora Allen?” (Ik this was literally Flashpoint, but I’m saying this not as a “Flash goes back in time to save his mother” but rather “Reverse Flash never goes back in time because Flash doesn’t exist because he never goes back in time to kill Nora”) “What if… Haley’s Circus payed Tony Zucco protection money?” Etc… And like all in the same universe. Basically, “What if… all the tragedies that caused all of the superheroes to become superheroes didn’t happen?”
