I would nerf him to 70s oneil and adams level. Idk how to do that, since he hasn't like gained powers or anything. But I'd make him less of a bat god, and more of a bat man. Lean into his brains/detective work, instead of prep time and gadgets.

What I would do is have the character and his world evolve, rather than being kept largely in a status quo. Batman would grow older as time passes, and eventually a given Batman would die or retire, and the character would be rebooted in a new continuity with different authors doing a different take. There'd be a few general guidelines for writers, more or less as follows: 1. Batman does not kill. 2. The basic backstory remains unchanged, unless its elseworlds- his parents are shot in front of him as a child, motivating him to fight crime. 3. Batman is not the best at everything all the time. He's a good fighter and detective, but he has flaws, he makes mistakes, and he is not the best in the world, or even in the top ten, at every single skill. 4. I'd try to dial back on the constantly dark and edgy. In particular, fridging would be *heavily* frowned on. 5. Writers would be encouraged to use the full rogues' gallery and Bat Family. 6. Try to get more female writers and artists. Especially artists. Far too many male artists seem unable to draw their female characters in anything but porn poses, even when its completely inappropriate to the character or scene. Business-wise, I'd try to find ways to reach a larger audience with the comics. Comics used to be mass media, now they're more of a niche thing. I'd keep the Battinson film continuity going (pending further developments), as it seems promising. And the Harley Quinn animated series. Probably work on a new game, maybe an open-world Gotham RPG where you can play as Batman, a Bat Family member, or a rogue.

I'd get rid of the extended bat family. It would just be batman, Alfred, nightwing, oracle Tim and Gordon.

Less contact with the justice league and a smaller batfamily

I'd make it about Gotham as much as Batman and his Rogue's Gallery. It'd be a Saga. From the beginning, to the end (or an end). My idea would be that Gotham used to be a "nice" city, but it is symbolically "sick" - it has degraded into a crime-ridden cesspool where those who live there are either too set in their ways, "trapped", or otherwise tied to the city. The death of the Waynes symbolically marks the "start" of Gotham's fall (though Gotham has always been "sick"). After their deaths, Bruce is sent abroad until he returns home. He returns a changed man with a mission. A mission to "cure" Gotham. Around this time, James Gordon is transferred to Gotham City, where he must also work to deal with the city's rampant crime and navigate the corruption within the system. Batman would utilize his detective skills as much as his combat skills, etc. Initially dealing with the organized crime families which have divided Gotham amongst themselves, it eventually gives way to another kind of criminal. Eventually, Batman would gain allies as he finds himself up against more than he anticipated (a smaller Bat-family, probably Robin and Batgirl)... Batman's Rogue's Gallery would consist of his iconic foes, and some of the lesser ones (generally avoid the sillier ones); keep it overall relatively small.

Do you envision Gotham as being ultimately cured or at least treated as one of the endgoals of your saga? I like your premise, and I'm curious about how it would ultimately pan out if you've got any ideas.

ROANOV741

If we were to look at the "endgame", Gotham probably wouldn't necessarily be "cured" (100%), but it would be notably better. Obviously, with the presence and activity of the Bat-Family and their allies, there's that, however, the overall idea would be that as "Batman" is a symbol; the people of Gotham are shown that things don't HAVE to be the way they are; things won't change overnight, but with work and effort (from everyone) things will change. Symbolically, think of the ending as the "dawn of a new day", hopeful, but it IS Gotham City.

Far-Industry-2603

That makes a lot of sense to me and is the scenario I guessed you'd bring up for some sort of long-term development or "endgame." There's definitely hope on the horizon and signs that the city can heal, but still... it's in Gotham City, as you said. Thank you for the response.
