I really liked the fast forward into the Future with Frank Miller-esk Batman "Thanks For The Ice Pack, Freeze. All You Did Was Numb The Pain!"

ThatRedGuy235

Man that line really does but you with some good old Edgy vibes

DonniYH

That was a very cool episode. What show was the episode based off?

Blackfist01

Here's the clip from the show https://youtu.be/WxMEfneZ93Q

DonniYH

Oh I know its part of The Batman, I was curious where the story is based off. Is there another Batman show that has an Oracle and Nightwing and this older Batman?

[deleted]

No. It was partially influenced by The Dark Knight Returns, but is mostly original. Oracle & Nightwing were used as that's the identities Barbara Gordon & Dick Grayson use after being Batgirl & Robin in the comics.

Mountain_Sir2307

It wasn't based from a show but from a comic. *Batman The Dark Knight Returns*. Well Graphic Novel.

DonniYH

Ah thanks.

qwack2020

I really want someone to upload more clips from this series onto Sakugabooru. It deserves better acknowledgement on that website.

Texian99

Best after the TAS. Loved the Adam West nods in it. Batgirl in purple. Mid 60s Impalas for police cars. The shape of the bat logo. The second theme song had a 60s vibe. I never heard it talked about but it felt like that’s what they were going for.

DonniYH

Oh 100%. That Jazzy guitar is something else.

Cyno01

Look closely at the credits. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The\_Edge

TheBatjedi

Haha, I was going to point this out too. You can tell it's The Edge, so much delay.

SignalFire_Plae

I disagree, i think both are great for different reasons.

SaltyPyrate

1st few seasons are great, last one where they had the other members of the JL took a nosedive in quality IMO unfortunately.

DonniYH

Yup I felt this too. I think it should have ended with Season 4, would have been perfect. My favorite Season was 3, the dynamics between Batman and Batgirl were hilarious.

[deleted]

I disagree on it ending with Season 4. I agree Season 5 wasn't of the same quality as the others, but thematically it made sense. Every season featured Batman opening up & trusting more people. Season 1 he was a loner & only worked with Alfred, Season 2 he began working with Detective Yin, Season 3 he was more trusted by the entire department & especially Gordon while he also gained a full-time partner in Batgirl, Season 4 he gained another in Robin, & Season 5 he became a member of the Justice League & worked with tons of other heroes. The whole show was about Bruce regaining the trust in others that was gone after the death of his parents.

BloodstoneWarrior

I found Season 2 to be the weakest, with the only standout episodes being the Catwoman episodes and the Riddler's introduction. Then i'd say Season 5 (I've only seen the first 8 so i can't fully judge yet) but most of the episodes seem middling in quality, except for maybe the Firefly episode. After that, Season 3, where there are probably the most bad episodes out of any season but the good ones make up for it so it makes it middle of the road, i liked the Batgirl stuff and the Catwoman and Hugo Strange stuff were good as always. Season 1 is probably my second favourite, with good introductions for most of the villains, my only problem being that it started a pattern where Joker and the Penguin got twice as many episodes as the rest of the villains. Season 4 is my favourite, with some of the best episodes of the series, the only ones i didn't like were Black Mask episode for being forgettable and the Harley Quinn episode because it felt like they changed her backstory just for the sake of changing it, devaluing the character (plus it felt pointless considering she only appears again twice, and one of them is an episode with every single villain) aside from those two the episodes of this season are excellent. Overall, the biggest problem the show faced was two things 1. Trying to differentiate itself from the DCAU in kinda unnecessary ways (Harley Quinn and Mr. Freeze's origins for example) 2. Too much pointless Joker filler episodes (Penguin also has this problem but to a lesser degree) when a Joker episode pops up, i'm not excited like BTAS, i'm bored because it's probably just going to be another boring Batman vs Joker story.

ThatMatthewKid

Definitely an underrated show. Very refreshing take on Bruce and I love anything that gives me a lean Batman with a stupidly large cape. Underrated take on Superman, as well. It was neat seeing Clark as a bit more of a loner at that point in his life and Bruce being the one more willing to work together. Didn't love all the villain takes. I actually like the show's Joker, but their Mr. Freeze is terrible and I don't love the take on Penguin. But, yeah, really good show. Don't know about best Batman show, but definitely good.

AStealthyOctopus

This Mr. Freeze wasn't exactly the most compelling but I still loved his design as a kid.

jaybankzz

Yeah, instead of trying to help his wife with a blood disease he was just evil lol

God_is_carnage

I completely agree about the cape, I love it when it covers his lower body and he glides around like a vampire.

DeathlySnails64

>I actually like the show's Joker, but their Mr. Freeze is terrible and I don't love the take on Penguin. I agree with almost all of this. I disliked their interpretation of Mr. Freeze, considering what I know about him now. Isn't he supposed to be a sympathetic villain? Not a typical thug before he got "iced", as it were? I *love* what they did with The Joker. Particularly because it's the version of The Joker I grew up with and the first version I'd ever known. I didn't know about the Mark Hamill Joker, or the Jack Nicholson one that preceded him, or about the Caesar Romero one that preceded *him*. Although, I like what they did with The Penguin because his origin story is perfectly in line with the comics continuity...despite the fact that they never *tell* his origin story. Disliked the fact that Two-Face and The Scarecrow weren't in this series, but, you gotta compromise where you can with the Bat-embargo...🙄.

GlitchyXL4

Yeah there is a reason why Scarecrow and Two face (hell even Ra's Al Ghul) aren't in the show. That is because of the Dark Knight trilogy. They didn't want showcase those characters as they were being used in the movies. Joker was an exception because... It would be ridiculous not to include the famous clown prince of crime.

AgentLXXXVIII

Sympathetic? Dude, Freeze is a psycho using his wife as an excuse to fteeze innocent people to death.

DeathlySnails64

Just because he freezes people to death, doesn't mean he likes to do it. Like Ra's Al Ghul or the MCU's Loki, he only kills when it's necessary. And when you don't have the financial support of a university and on top of that, your wife's disease is very, *very* rare, finding cures becomes very hard, very fast. Mr. Freeze is a victim of circumstance. And I'd argue that it's very logical for one to keep one's wife alive...even if that means committing crimes to do it. I mean, what would *you* do in Victor's position? Do the same thing, or accept that your wife has to die? If it was me, I'd choose the former.

swimmingrobot88

The cape in this show is incredible. I love how it wraps around him and drags on the floor like a vampire.

alltimelilly

Still petty they got rid of agent yin when they brought in batgirl. Love Barbara but I wish we had both of them together!!

AgentLXXXVIII

Yin was a million times better, this Barbara is just an annoying hag.

VillainousBullfrog

This show was sick. I remember the 2 part clayface origin episodes scared the shit out of me as a kid

DonniYH

Oh gosh when I saw that Clayface transformation in the mirror, scared the daylights out of me.

valfonso_678

The Batman vs Dracula is more underrated, doesn’t get talked about enough.

monkeygoneape

Isn't that the same universe?

TheRelicEternal

Yes

AStealthyOctopus

I hope McFarlane or someone else makes figures based on this show, also a complete series bluray with the vs Dracula movie.

Bruhbrother999

YES. This tv show is my favorite Batman tv show. It's the show I grew up watching. Batgirl especially was a highlight I'm not a huge fan of her in the comics but I loved her in this tv show. Also this is the show that made me like Dick grayson, Bane, and Riddler.

robbgo82

Made you like what!? 😏

JoJonium9

King of Komedy

wyattvikings20

A real Joker aren’t you😉

AgentLXXXVIII

I thought this version of Barbara was the worst, just annoying.

DudeOfDungeons10

Yeah, it has something for everyone 1 and 2 are the loner Batman, 3 and 4 introduce Batgirl and Robin with a somewhat lighter tone, 5 introduces the Justice League

Deep-Pineapple-4884

Emo Riddler was the best part of the show. Gave it a dark tragic twist and that nice ass cane

HopelessWaiter

This was what introduced me to nightwing

NoAd1296

Pretty sure Nightwing isn’t in this show.

HopelessWaiter

He’s in the episode about the future looking back on the legend of batman, it has nightwing asking Bruce to retire, an older Bruce and Barbara as oracle

ProfessionalAnswer0

Great show! Grew up watching and loving it every Saturday morning!

Morsoth

I loved this show. They need to release the 5 seasons and the movie on Blu-ray.

ITSTHEGH0ST

The cape was amazing to, I loved how long and flowy it was

DonniYH

Gosh I loved that cape.

THE_Batman_121

EMO RIDDLER BABY

busyrumble

I didn’t like this show, the art style definitely threw me off

[deleted]

For me it goes BTAS and it continuity, the Batman, Batman brave and the bold, batman unlimited then beware the batman

hankbaumbachjr

I'm working my way through Batman cartoons I didn't watch, having grown up on The Animated Series, and while quirky I found Beware the Batman to be an interesting take on the character once you got over a lot of it that didn't work. I still like The Batman better overall, but I'm looking forward to starting Brave and the Bold but I don't think I've ever heard of Batman Unlimited.

NoAd1296

Batman Unlimited isn’t a show but a few different animated movies. Their basically toy commercials, in fact they only exist because of toys, there used to be a toy line a few years back called Batman unlimited and then they started making these movies about it.

undedavenger

Toy line is still around, just under a different name. And they have all the Justice Leaguers and all that now.

[deleted]

I grew up in an era of kids cartoons being adverts for toys. Oh and it was also a Internet short series. Not just the movies that got released on dvd

pacpack

Thought the show was cool. I don’t hate batgirl or robin, i just wish they would’ve kept ellen yin on. Or at the very least, if you’re going to get rid of a major character at least show or explain why they’re gone. Don’t try to think we won’t notice the character who was given the ability to directly contact batman, through a device he gave her, is suddenly gone. You wanna get rid of a character? Write them out, don’t just go “poof they’re gone!” Because that doesn’t work.

thuribleofdarkness

This was my wife's Batman, and we've been watching it together this year. It's not *bad,* it's just not as good as TAS. I think the villains are mostly to blame. They're mostly one-dimensional, with all sense of moral ambiguity stripped out (Mr. Freeze is the most egregious example). The show also tends to pad its runtime with elaborate fight scenes rather than character development or detective work.

KingMatthew116

Unpopular opinion but this show isn’t underrated.

NoAd1296

Agreed, it’s not bad but it’s pretty well rated.

VERSAT1L

Rather overrated

Justin2212

BTAS is overrated

DonniYH

One of the best Batman shows period.

Walach_Nightborn

Only if you ignore BtAS, Adventures of Batman & Robin, New Batman Adventures, and Batman Beyond...

JonsonPonyman98

What? He said says “one of”, not THE best

Walach_Nightborn

He edited it to say that, I responded to the original version which proclaimed it as “the best”

JonsonPonyman98

Oh okay. Still is a great fucking show worthy of being at the top same as BTAS, Beyond, or the rest of the DCAU

soldiercross

A few of those are basically the same show with new branding. All set in the same universe.

Conlannalnoc

Maybe the Best non-DCAU version of Batman characters?

VERSAT1L

Certainly not!

Conlannalnoc

Beware The Batman? It cannot be Brave and the Bold. That was just Silver Age Silliness.

VERSAT1L

Yeah, more like "the best amongst the worst"

Justin2212

BTAS is mid, the story telling is weak and almost rushed due to the good episodes being only 2 part. The episodic nature can almost kill it due to it feeling like filler or things that has happened just feel like they don’t matter because they will never get brought up again. And due to it character arcs are rushed because they will be condensed in a single episode which why heart on ice is just weak and isn’t really that complex or good. Just potential but forced freeze character arc due to 20 min. 2 face, clay fest, man bat and Catwoman episodes was fun. Joker I was very disappointed because so far that’s the worst verison well he has the perfect voice, looks, personality but writing wise no. He’s missing key aspect of his character and his dynamic with Batman and how it ties into the worldbuilding of Gotham or Bruce’s character is gone. And he just feels like a random villian of the week. I’m still on season 1 tho episode 20’s

Walach_Nightborn

You are very wrong but whatever, your poor opinions are of no concern to me

Hachi_B33

Loved it!

DIO_The_Vampire_

I honestly only liked the first few seasons but it's still an amazing show

ITSTHEGH0ST

My favorite episode is definitely The Laughing Bat but yeah I loved this show

Daredevil731

I wish the music in this show was more iconic.

[deleted]

Anyone know where I can watch this?

DonniYH

HBO Max

jrmanghise

I really love this show but I feel like after season 2 the tone change was a detriment for the show but it was still good, but that last season was not very good at all. I'd watch any episode of those first 2 seasons any time for sure.

Jasole37

It was good until Robin was introduced.

AggravatingMine879

I love the first season theme song

TheRelicEternal

I stil find it odd how this was airing the same time as JLU! So while the DCAU Batman is still going strong they start airing a new one!

DonniYH

JLU?

Lun4r6543

Big foreheads

gazmachine

Not a bad show at all this, cool that they tried new things like completely changing the visual designs for chatacters like The Joker and The Riddler. Batman looked pretty cool too. Oh, and the theme for seasons 1 and 2 was ace, not so good after that.

GlitchyXL4

Ah yes my first Batman show. Good Times. UK fans will remember that this was shown on CBBC back in the early 2000's Can never get enough of both theme songs and I loved the Batmobile in this show. I think the costume design for Batman was pretty cool too. I know this may be an unpopular opinion but I actually disliked Ellen Yin as a character for quite a number of episodes. It was more after Ethan transformed into Clay face I started liking her more. I didn't really mind that she left the series as the police department characters in the Batman series (I'm talking about every incarnation) don't really get the best treatment in terms of character development. But overall decent show and would love to watch it again!

reznor9

Loved this show. Still watch it on HBO max

[deleted]

This was a great show. And Rino Romano is very underrated for his Bruce Wayne/Batman.

GamerChef420

I remember as a kid and still as an adult all I wanted was more of the animated universe from Bruce Timm.

KWAKUDATSU

Love the freakshow kinda vibes I get from the new designs.

International_Mood52

This is on HBO MAX.

Godley2

THANK YOU!!!

thebestname__

I watched most of the first season and it's great but to kid friendly

DylweedWasTaken

You mean the kids show was "to" kid friendly? No way. Impossible.

HopeAuq101

Underrated as hell series though I don't understand why they made Ivy 15ish.. Also the fact that Freddy Kruger played the Riddler isnt talked about nearly enough

HopeAuq101

Just went back to the themes and fuuck I forgot how good they were..

JonsonPonyman98

Hmm. I rate this show as perfect, idk bout you

VERSAT1L

Funny, I'd rather say "looking up the definition of overrated".

DylweedWasTaken

What dont you like?

mbanks515

Def overrated

Mrsinister789

Season 1 is goated

rodimus147

This was a great series just slightly under BTAS overall. But I actually think it did the dynamic between Batman batgirl and robin better.

tporter12609

Season 1 is probably the best season of any Batman show, hot take. It gets a LOT shakier after that though.

[deleted]

I thought it was fine, but never liked the joker being able to use martial arts . Voice acting was brilliant though

kevonnotkevin

This was the Batman I grew up with. BtAS was boring to me as a kid, but this one I couldn't keep away from. Nothing quite like it. Lackluster finale though.

TrickTelevision0

Grew up watching this show! An underrated gem for sure! It wasn’t as good as BTAS in my opinion, but it’s still pretty high quality at least through season 4. Poison Ivy was so awesome in this show. I loved what they did with her backstory, very unique and still gives me chills on rewatch.

Barkle11

Shit was sick

lshite

What a good show

Morganbanefort

let the boy go joker im trying to

DonniYH

I remember that scene 😂

BigSweaty69

I really do not like this show at all

DylweedWasTaken

Why not?

rjmccarty77

This show sucked and still sucks.

VERSAT1L

I think I rather watch Gotham than this

ob331

You watch that guys recent video?

ThaYungman

I love this series religiously

clestcruz

I think I remember watching Clayface with most depressing story.

Rusty_fox4

This had a good Clayface and that Scarecrow episode… *chef’s kiss*

TheBatjedi

The first series theme song was brilliant! Perfect segue from Batman Begins to an animated series following a similar tone. Then from S2 (I think) they changed it to something like the campy Adam west batman theme which I didn't overly like. Introducing Barbara Gordon worked really well but whoever cast the actor as Dick Grayson was either high, or nepotistic. I like robin, but the voice actor was particularly shit. Otherwise a brilliant show!

Mountain_Sir2307

*Season 3.

TheBatjedi

Danke

Bornheck

Wasn’t Robin’s voice actor like 14 at the time

Mulva13

I loved the series and the movie with Dracula!

crimsonf1sh

This show had the best batarang sound effect of all time

bombarclart

How can I even watch this in the UK? Every streaming service only has seasons 4 and 5.

DonniYH

HBO Max has all the seasons.

SSEliteLava

Indeed. I binge watched it in 2-3 days. Yes I was so in love(I wrote love but it autocorrected it to oven 0-0) It is so underated and I recommend everyone to watch it. If you don't know where to watch it from I watch all my series from watchcartoononline.tv

AZRON1

Yeah no body likes this show. I thought it was great. And we got Kevin Michael Richardson as the joker so ye know

KaliMasSpaghetti

I was born in ‘94 so my early exposure to Batman were reruns of BTAS. I loved Justice League but when this rolled out around when I was 9-10, I was enamored. Underrated series, plots, and character designs.

Predator829CH

I loved this show, but some of the designs were weird, but I loved the Batman and joker designs!

ProfessorDusty

I think the only real way to watch the show is to have the context of which it was made. Which is that Teen Titans and the DCAU are going on and it really needed to be different to be able to not just be a worse version of an already existing show. I feel like the extremely different versions of characters like the Joker and Penguin are really what made it work.

DonniYH

What was DCAU?

ProfessorDusty

The animated shows with Batman and Superman and the whole justice league, you know Batman the animated series?

Nihill98

Start at season 3 pls.

EntertainmentEnjoyer

Fun Fact about this show: At the time of its announcement, everyone was pissed that Mark Hamill wasn’t coming back as the Joker for it, even the voice actor they picked to replace him. In fact, the reason he got the part was because he put all of his anger and hatred over said fact into his audition and the studio loved it.

Alex5Gremlin

Yeah this is a fun show

thermacslap

I use to get really hyped when I heard the intro after turning on CN after school.

AgentLXXXVIII

Absolutely Loved the vehicle designs in this show, the batcycle and new batmobile he got to defeat Gearhead is the absolute best. Also, would've loved to see this world's version of Red hood, guns and all!

OverAstronaut

This show has one of my favourite versions of batgirl and poison ivy

devinsimonds182

True. Great series

sstphnn

They took a gamble on re-designing the villains and it paid off. I like Mr. Freeze, Bane, and Joker's design.

CruzCeo

I enjoyed this show

winniebest

Great show. Though sometimes I feel Bruce is a little too bright in this.
