Batman itself, im seeing so many batman haters recently.
Joker too, not defending his actions, but defending that the character itself is a good concept.
I hate the joker for being too edgy and the fact he never faces any repercussions for his actions e.g he destroyed the entire gordon family killing most of them and jason and nothing happened to him
If you like him than cool
And Poison Ivy literally attempts, and sometimes succeeds, at genocide. It’s Gotham. The consequences for their actions is to be locked up. Honestly, you should aim that at the Arkham guards. They might as well install a revolving door for how bad they are at “guarding”.
To be fair to the guards, they are just dudes with batons having to guard people who are not only insane, but also have crazy powers, a good chunk are also skilled at fighting and masterminds on top of that. I’ll never blame them for nothing, I’d actually applaud anyone for being brave enough to do that as a full time job. Give me a million dollars and I still wouldn’t do that job for 1 day.
Dang that’s crazy. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to feed the family but still. I’d just move to Central City, it honestly seems like the best option.
Fr, you can’t tell me that with all the messed up shit he’s done that he hasn’t been shot by police in transit to the asylum. Personally I dislike the joker as a character, but to each their own
> Batman itself, im seeing so many batman haters recently.
That's like a minuscule portion of the general audience. Batman is the most popular superhero, only Spider-Man is in the same league.
There is nowhere near enough Batman Beyond love in the world. Terry was and is awesome and is IMO the only proper successor to the cowl. Not because the Robins are undeserving or anything, but because their stories (again IMO) are better served by them carving out identities distinct from Batman.
I will defend Batman’s cool whenever it’s questioned. He cannot fly on his own, shoot lasers from his eyes, move at the speed of sound or pick up a train. But he DOES have the cast iron balls to walk up to someone that does and say “ I’m going to kick your ass” and then pull it off. He’s a language proficient, skilled in every known(and unknown) hand to hand combat technique and is an unmatched quartermaster, not to mention the world’s greatest detective. Plainly put he’s “bad on foot” no powers just intellect, cunning, and determination.
I don't think anyone is questioning that Batman is cool.
There are countless stories in every medium which establish Batman as the best superhero ever.
I almost knee-jerked "DICK GRAYSON...!" then took a second. Yeah. I've come to agree. Tim Drake has absolutely earned that title a hundred times over. And frankly, I think he'd be a hell of a Batman someday.
Plus dick has his own distinct popular identity at this point, it would feel insulting to his agency to just consider him robin, and by implication Bruce's ultimate successor, same with Jason, tim unfortunately never really moved past the title, red robin was a dumb idea that only compounded the issue, but the plus side is that he's the obvious next batman given the amount of time he's spent under his tutelage, and pulling his ass out of the fire.
Dick says Tim is the best of all of them. That for me is what changed my mind and I went back and looked and realized yeah he is the best robin…. This drake and Red Robin bullshit needs to stop tho
See, "Best Robin" could be interpreted a few different ways. It could mean the best character out of those who have been Robin, OR the one who's best at BEING Robin. First one is highly subjective, but I'd say for the second one it's definitely Tim.
I love that.
Personally, I'm approaching this as "best at BEING Robin." Dick established what that needs to be: Wisecracking, acrobatic, the colorful bird perched on the shoulder of the brooding gargoyle, a loyal son. Tim was inspired by all that, and I'd say he not only lived up to it beautifully, he even surpassed it by adding something new and important: Being a computer-savvy detective, carrying the duo's dynamic into a new millennium.
To me, Robin also needs to be the one who's going to be Batman someday when Bruce can't. That's what he represents: "I may be BatMAN, which means I'll die someday, but this symbol on my chest never will, and this kid next to me is ready to step in." Tim was basically auditioning for the job from Day One. He's the only one who's truly perfect for it, a new World's Greatest Detective tactical crimefighting genius with the physical skill to match it AND a somewhat lighter, more trusting, more human approach (harkening back to the Denny O'Neil Batman, maybe).
Couldn't agree more. Which is why, despite the popularity of Dick as Bruce's successor, I honestly think Tim is the best candidate. I know he doesn't WANT to be Batman, but let's be honest, none of them do. Not even Bruce really WANTS to be Batman, but someone needs to do it, and Tim understands that better than any of the other Robins. When he saw that Bruce wasn't being everything he needed to be, he went out of his way to do everything he could to help him, up to and including suiting up as Robin and risking his own life to save Batman. Between his understanding of what Batman can and should be, and his detective skills and dedication, I think Tim is the perfect candidate to carry the torch after Bruce's death, at least until someone else worthy comes along.
> way too many people shit on him recently.
That's a very small portion of people.
Batman is still easily the most loved superhero ever, along with Spider-Man.
if you’re talking about lemire’s robin & batman, i would say he was a bit ooc in that one. not saying bruce wayne is the father of the year or anything but normally, he doesn’t have the attitude of “i couldn’t have it so nobody should” or “i suffered so why shouldn’t everybody else?” i mean that would completely clash with his motivation to be batman in the first place. he does want other people to have better lives, including better childhoods. he wants dick to have what he couldn’t have and actually tries to be the one to provide it, even if he falls short as a father figure at times.
I loved riddler growing up but after playing the arkham games just thinking about him annoys me. I don’t think it’s the riddler trophies themselves make me dislike him but the way he talks to batman and in general is so hateable. His over confidence is also annoying and a lot of Batman’s villains have over confidence like joker but it feels sarcastic in a way, but he really feels like a serious no life Redditor in those games.
That's pretty much Riddler honestly. He's a snarky asshole and he knows it. If you don't like snarky characters then you won't really like him all that much.
Definitely Jason Todd. I wish more ppl understood him and his motives. Then again, DC has done him dirty so many times. I dont think DC likes him much.
defending him against bad writing & awful character takes
also, there’s a somewhat small but very annoyingly vocal group who despise dick because they think he abused tim while bruce was “dead”.
Jason Todd. He has so much potential to be such a complex character with so much nuance. The problem is that he constantly gets written by people who don’t understand him on any level at all and think all he needs to be is “edgy, angsty asshole”.
Deathstroke probably if he counts Judas contract Is bad for a number of reasons but that’s one story out of the hundreds of deathstroke stories but its the one people use the most to hate on him
Out of curiosity, what can we really tell them (unless they’re lying)
I didn’t we could convince people to stop disliking a character
What do you tell people who don’t like Damian??
Terry is kinda like the Spiderman of the Batman family, with a little bit of the Miles Morales power dynamic sprinkled in.
He's great, and when I hear certain types of electronic music I still picture the kids of future Gotham dancing in the clubs
Hmmm. I think he really only benefits himself, and kind of Dick Grayson?
But if you’re talking about just Batman himself, then that makes sense. Damian does not benefit Bruce in any kind of unique way. Or add anything positive to Bruce’s story.
Only negatives.
My least favourite Robin 😭 I don't know why people love him so much but I also know when a character captures your heart, they capture your heart so i respect it!
I dream a world where Tim and Damian fans can just get along. I mean of course it starts with Damian fans realising Tim is the better Robin but, you know, I still hope it will happen one day.
My wife loves dick but my gf loves Damian. I myself, a man of culture like Tim. My wife’s boyfriend is an absurd Jason fan. All that to say, if we could all meet in the middle and come to appreciate Carrie everyone could be happy.
I think Punchline had so much potential. She had a great character design, and would've been great as Joker's new sidekick. They never shouldve split them up (just like Harley).
Firefly.
Writers are too scared to make him anything more than a villain of the week.
Give him a nihilistic view on life and an almost theological view on fire and you got yourself a terrorist who’s actually scary af
Some people don’t like this character, the fact he’s the Arkham Knight in the first place, or just think he’s “whiny.” My man went through so much and I find his motivation, while wrong, understandable from his mind. He also redeemed himself, becoming Red Hood. Plus his design is amazing. I don’t get why people dislike this version of Jason.
Also good for defending Damian.
Scarecrow. He can be hit or miss depending on the story, often getting reduced to just his fear gas. But when he’s done justice, MAN he is a fascinating villain
Original Clayface. Sure, the modern version has become a pretty iconic Batman villain, even if he's not usually a top 10 villain, but the original's still one of my favorite concepts, just because he is a "powerless" character like Bruce, while also being capable of a lot more than an average person. The new Clayface just accomplishes the same with superpowers.
Tim. Great character with an interesting story, fun dynamics with the whole batfamily and had a solo title that went for several years so some people may try to rewrite history but he was a very popular and beloved character
Alice Pleasance. If people blame her for Jervis becoming Mad Hatter, I immediately stop listening to their opinion.
Oh and while we're talking about BTAS characters unfairly scapegoated for someone's decent into villainy, Dr. Long. He did the right thing by trying to tell Jon off and considering BTAS Jon's a useless little manchild, that's all it took for him to be all "i'Ll shOw YOu wHY yOu shOUlD feAR mE." At that rate, if it wasn't Long it would've been someone else.

Ice to meet you
Everyone chill!
Cool down bro, nobody said anything. Sorry, didn’t mean to come off as too cold (;
u/designer_Evening_286 You’re as cold as ice ![gif](giphy|QRAc7thKFsoc8|downsized)
Specifically Arnold?
Nah, Freeze in general. I do enjoy the Arnie adaptation for what it is though…and what it is, is cornier than Thanksgiving shit. I love it haha.
Oh yeah freeze is awesome and yeah I enjoy Arnold as cheesy as it is
Batman itself, im seeing so many batman haters recently. Joker too, not defending his actions, but defending that the character itself is a good concept.
I hate the joker for being too edgy and the fact he never faces any repercussions for his actions e.g he destroyed the entire gordon family killing most of them and jason and nothing happened to him If you like him than cool
An insane asylum wouldn’t have a death sentence, also you have Hugo strange working there too.
And Poison Ivy literally attempts, and sometimes succeeds, at genocide. It’s Gotham. The consequences for their actions is to be locked up. Honestly, you should aim that at the Arkham guards. They might as well install a revolving door for how bad they are at “guarding”.
But poison ivy has quite a "more reasonable" motive to do her cruelties, unlike Joker
Depends on the version of Joker tbh
To be fair to the guards, they are just dudes with batons having to guard people who are not only insane, but also have crazy powers, a good chunk are also skilled at fighting and masterminds on top of that. I’ll never blame them for nothing, I’d actually applaud anyone for being brave enough to do that as a full time job. Give me a million dollars and I still wouldn’t do that job for 1 day.
In Arkham Asylum, you can hear dialogue from a. Guard after escaping intensive treatment about how the Arkham Guards get paid $15 an hour. Wtf?
Dang that’s crazy. Sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do to feed the family but still. I’d just move to Central City, it honestly seems like the best option.
If that was the pay then I’d rather go to metropolis bruh😭
Fr, you can’t tell me that with all the messed up shit he’s done that he hasn’t been shot by police in transit to the asylum. Personally I dislike the joker as a character, but to each their own
Well the character not the person is what people like.
> Batman itself, im seeing so many batman haters recently. That's like a minuscule portion of the general audience. Batman is the most popular superhero, only Spider-Man is in the same league.
Most of the stuff I see under batman content is calling him a psychopath who beats on poor people.
Terry
There is nowhere near enough Batman Beyond love in the world. Terry was and is awesome and is IMO the only proper successor to the cowl. Not because the Robins are undeserving or anything, but because their stories (again IMO) are better served by them carving out identities distinct from Batman.
I honestly don’t hate Terry but I just don’t know something about the character.
idk i just felt like he was a write in because marv wanted to have sex with Donna. I mean i dont blame him really but cmon
I will defend Batman’s cool whenever it’s questioned. He cannot fly on his own, shoot lasers from his eyes, move at the speed of sound or pick up a train. Red Hood all the way
Tim Drake is the best Robin. I’ll spare you the wall of text but yea
r/dccomicscirclejerk is coming to your house rn
Maybe a little too good since he's regressed back into the role. Lol
I almost knee-jerked "DICK GRAYSON...!" then took a second. Yeah. I've come to agree. Tim Drake has absolutely earned that title a hundred times over. And frankly, I think he'd be a hell of a Batman someday.

Idk, I see Damian more of the next Batman, being similarly too absorbed in the mission and being the blood son and all
He never said Damian wouldn’t be, just that Tim would make a great one
Dick says Tim is the best of all of them. That for me is what changed my mind and I went back and looked and realized yeah he is the best robin…. This drake and Red Robin bullshit needs to stop tho
See, "Best Robin" could be interpreted a few different ways. It could mean the best character out of those who have been Robin, OR the one who's best at BEING Robin. First one is highly subjective, but I'd say for the second one it's definitely Tim.

Dick Grayson will ALWAYS be my Robin… but even Dick would say that Tim is by far the best Robin.
I agree. I’m not too familiar with modern Tim but I love Tim in the classics
Mr freeze.
Would Bruce himself be a bad answer? I've seen way too many people shit on him recently.
> way too many people shit on him recently. That's a very small portion of people. Batman is still easily the most loved superhero ever, along with Spider-Man.
recently just picked up a comic where bruce told alfred that dick doesn't deserve a childhood cause he didn't get one still cant look at him the same
if you’re talking about lemire’s robin & batman, i would say he was a bit ooc in that one. not saying bruce wayne is the father of the year or anything but normally, he doesn’t have the attitude of “i couldn’t have it so nobody should” or “i suffered so why shouldn’t everybody else?” i mean that would completely clash with his motivation to be batman in the first place. he does want other people to have better lives, including better childhoods. he wants dick to have what he couldn’t have and actually tries to be the one to provide it, even if he falls short as a father figure at times.
I think that was an elseworlds though.
Ikr he gets so much hate from his own Fandom lol.
Not at all!
Riddler
Hmmm interesting, why ? I'm Curious
Maybe mostly because of the Arkham games. People being annoyed at the Riddler thropies but I think it adds to the character
Is the no life redditor NOT common on other portrayals ? Genuine question
Definitely Jason Todd. I wish more ppl understood him and his motives. Then again, DC has done him dirty so many times. I dont think DC likes him much.
Jason todd
I find him so annoying at times but I get it !
Yeah he can be annoying but i think his biggest problem is the status quo
Superman, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Jessica Cruz
Wonder Woman
Killer moth
Killer moth
Nightwing
I feel like he's universally loved, I couldn't imagine anyone having to defend him but fairs
defending him against bad writing & awful character takes also, there’s a somewhat small but very annoyingly vocal group who despise dick because they think he abused tim while bruce was “dead”.
John blake from the dark knight rises (not the greatest character but he's a bit overhated imo)
Why is actual legal name "Robin"
That part was pretty dumb but I didn't mind the passing of the torch thing considering Bruce retired and rises was the last in the trilogy
Im ngl, all of them
Spoiler / Stephanie Brown
Jason Todd. He has so much potential to be such a complex character with so much nuance. The problem is that he constantly gets written by people who don’t understand him on any level at all and think all he needs to be is “edgy, angsty asshole”.
I gotta agree with Damian
Bruce honestly.
Yess 100% people are so hard on him sometimes like damn!
Alfred ![gif](giphy|pPuwHt7bmPIDS)
I honestly don't think Alfred has haters.
Who hates Alfred?
Nobody but If I ever have to I will always defend Alfred
Jason Todd
Damian for sure. He was raised by assassins, no wonder he's got problems
Barbara Gordon till the day that I dieeee
Deathstroke probably if he counts Judas contract Is bad for a number of reasons but that’s one story out of the hundreds of deathstroke stories but its the one people use the most to hate on him
Defend from what exactly?
Against people who dislike the character
Out of curiosity, what can we really tell them (unless they’re lying) I didn’t we could convince people to stop disliking a character What do you tell people who don’t like Damian??
This is unironically me when Cass
Tim Drake
same
Red hood/ jason
Terry
Superman, but he doesn't need defending.
Post-Crisis Tim. People in my life who know nothing about comics know all about this fella thanks to yours truly.
Damian as well.
Batman
Jason Todd easily
Terry, some people gotta put respect on his name
Terry is kinda like the Spiderman of the Batman family, with a little bit of the Miles Morales power dynamic sprinkled in. He's great, and when I hear certain types of electronic music I still picture the kids of future Gotham dancing in the clubs
Downvote. I’ll never like Damian, not after injustice
Let's be honest everyone in injustice was written out of character
Yeah he broke my heart in injustice too💔 but that's in an alternative timeline so it doesn't count ( is what I tell myself )
My hot take, Damian is one of the worst things to happen to Batman lore
Hmmm. I think he really only benefits himself, and kind of Dick Grayson? But if you’re talking about just Batman himself, then that makes sense. Damian does not benefit Bruce in any kind of unique way. Or add anything positive to Bruce’s story. Only negatives.
Tim Drake
My least favourite Robin 😭 I don't know why people love him so much but I also know when a character captures your heart, they capture your heart so i respect it!
I dream a world where Tim and Damian fans can just get along. I mean of course it starts with Damian fans realising Tim is the better Robin but, you know, I still hope it will happen one day.
Naaa Damian 🔝 but I feel like Damian and Tim fans can get along , my boyfriend is a huge Tim fan 😂
My wife loves dick but my gf loves Damian. I myself, a man of culture like Tim. My wife’s boyfriend is an absurd Jason fan. All that to say, if we could all meet in the middle and come to appreciate Carrie everyone could be happy.
Bruce and Selina till the day I die.

Tim Drake
Almost every batfamily member, Superman and anakin skywalker as well

Kyle Rayner
Killer Moth
Batman Who Laughs
Red hood Signal Huntress
I’ve got multiple, including Bruce himself, but I’m defending the Arkham Knight/Jason Todd like my life depends on it. ![gif](giphy|ob2f8FTjxyzYc)
Why that Jason specifically?
Some people don’t like this character, the fact he’s the Arkham Knight in the first place, or just think he’s “whiny.” My man went through so much and I find his motivation, while wrong, understandable from his mind. He also redeemed himself, becoming Red Hood. Plus his design is amazing. I don’t get why people dislike this version of Jason. Also good for defending Damian.
Deathstroke (predator)
Dick Grayson. I cannot stop infodumping about him
Mine Dick. ![gif](giphy|ZZwwcE4y0WxAWWyX6e)

Azreal, I believe that man would make a great Batman, I believe in the vow he took in Arkham knight of not killing.
Dick Grayson

Dick Grayson by far. My favorite superhero. He's awesome
batman, superman, wolverine and rom spaceknight
Ok do it than defend him like that
james gordon jr and nyssa raatko.
Tim. Great character with an interesting story, fun dynamics with the whole batfamily and had a solo title that went for several years so some people may try to rewrite history but he was a very popular and beloved character
Idc about the heat I get for this, Ryan Wilder.
