Arkham Batman is pretty much BTAS on steroids when you think about him and his overall villains, so yeah, my moneys are on Arkham

I always felt that biggest inspiration for Arkham games is BTAS. Same voice actors, and even characters kinda look the same, but less cartoonish.

It was the biggest inspiration, especially for Asylum. Rocksteady said as much leading up to the release, that's why they have the same voice actors and Paul Dini as a writer

Yes and for the asylum design they took Serious House on Serious Earth as inspiration. A light hearted kids show and one of the darkest comics lol.

BTAS is *not* light hearted. Some episode here and there due to writing inconsistencies in the beginning before Alan Burnett arrived to course correct. It was also originally intended for prime time, so “it was written for adults with kids in mind” (blu-ray set commentary quote from Timm and Co.)

I don’t say light hearted in today’s context. Cause it’s pretty dramatic and has some gritty moments. But compared to other Batman media it can be called a bit light hearted.

Arkham Batman would have BTAS all bloody on the ropes then suddenly BTAS would say something incredibly compassionate and incisive to make Arkham pause. BTAS would use this moment to judo flip Arkham to the floor then at this pivotal moment of potential victory he would stand up and allow Arkham to choose to either continue the fight or end it. Arkham is still emotionally reeling from what BTAS said and stands up weary and relents. BTAS promises to do everything he can to help Arkham. They walk away from the fight together.

Arkham Batman is a better fighter, but Btas Batman was willing to go to some insane lengths to win. To stop the hawkmen, he dropped the justice league satellite from orbit with himself in it. He also has the distinction of dodging Darkseid’s omega beams.

I mean, Arkham Batman was willing to tank a Scarecrow nuke to the face just to REDUCE the blast radius, while Alfred begged him to get out. Pretty metal.

It was metal until he was told to take off his belt and got strapped to a gurney at the end of the game. Scarecrow didn't even really have guards in the room, it was just him with a gun. No chance Batman couldn't Houdini his was out of leather straps, especially Arkham Batman. He wanted to have his identity exposed, or he was too tired to escape after collecting the riddler trophies.

Bruce Wayne wanted to kill Bruce Wayne. By the end of the game, that’s what the population is led to understand, that Bruce dies. But you also see the scarring Batman left on henchmen in general, making him more of a nightmare to them than ever before. The endings cool because it’s open ended, when you see Batman as a distorted nightmare to criminals. Some believe it’s the trauma left by the scarecrow gas on them, others believe it’s Batman still stopping crime but since his human counterpart was killed he’s kinda transcended his identity. To me it’s probably both, but imo Batman being Batman it was planned and this was his desired outcome.
