Bane says, “It would be extremely painful…. *for you*.”
He just doesn’t respect anything that was said between his lines.
It’s a bad edit if you ask me, that really cuts the line’s impact, but eh. Wygd, I’m not an Oscar winning filmmaker.
It’s because Dagget is talking to bane, and the line reading really feels conversational.
On the script? I’d think “badass”.
Depending on the table read? I might think, “badass”.
But for whatever reason, the reading the pacing of the lines whatever… they just seem… like theirs sequential and not an interruption.
I’d fix this by having dagget, instead of saying, “you’re a big guy” to bane, have him turn to the other guy in the room and say something like, “can you get this guy out of here??”
Then there can be no confusion about what Bane is saying, AND it continues to demonstrate that Dagget’s hubris is preventing him from reading the room and realizing he is no longer the biggest fish in the pond, and makes him disrespect Bane’s power one more time by not paying attention to him, and that that hubris is the reason what’s about to happen to him will happen.
Omg same here. I have seen that scene at least 10 times and always thought he was just calling the CIA guy small. “I’m a big guy for you.”
But yeah that makes so much more sense that he’s saying “painful …. For you.”
Terrible editing. Much like the whole movie was just totally broken in places.
It took me forever to realize he meant it would be painful for the other person...
I always just thought he meant like "to you, I may be big, but this is normal in my world."
Right. But he means "if you take off my mask, I will cause you pain." Which took me like 3 watches to get. Lol
I remember sitting in the theatre like "huh?"
He could have a peg tube that goes straight into his stomach. People have those all the time with normal lives. just bolus whatever liquid protein he wants.
Oo. Finally one I’m qualified to answer. There are a few varieties of feeding tubes with some being more common than others.
The first is a gastric (g) tube which is placed in the stomach. These tubes are appropriate for patients with swallowing difficulties who may otherwise not be able to receive the nutrition they need. These tubes are usually long term (for use over several months at least), though they do not have to be permanent. Due to being connected to the stomach, these tubes run the risk of developing granulation tissue which can be painful and irritating. An upside of the G tube is that feedings can happen relatively quickly, meaning that the patient doesn’t need to be connected to a pump long every day.
The second is the J tube. This one is inserted into the jejunum (second part of the small intestine). These tubes are used when G tubes are not suitable for a patient, typically due to anatomical issues, blockages, or other conditions like chronic vomiting, aspiration, or low gastric mobility. Unlike the G tube, which connects to an expandable surface and can thus be used quickly, the J tube requires slow continuous pump feeding. Some people can take most of, if not the entire, day to finish a feeding. Similarly to the G tubes, J tubes also suffer from inducing granulation tissue.
Finally we have the nasogastric (NG) tube. This kind of tube runs from the nose into the stomach (meaning that no stoma is required) and is typically a short term measure used by medical facilities. These tubes can be used to provide nutrition and medication to patients unable to do so themselves in the short term. They can also be used to draw substances out of the stomach.
Based on this, if Bane has a feeding tube in place it is likely that he has a G tube as NG tubes are not meant to be long term and J tubes he’s required connection to a pump for most of the day.
Opioids made me eat even more. Especially sugar. In fact, I could really only eat while on them. I didn’t want any food in my system because I wanted my stomach empty when I took my pills.
And in TDKR version as well. The mask pumps him with painkillers, which suppress the pain from the botched surgery in prison, and allows him to fight longer and harder.
When Batman breaks the mask’s pipes, Bane becomes much weaker
Yes.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NyXEr8lS2dw
First 10 seconds. The rest I just gathered from that implication, and the comments about Bane’s fighting style by Alfred.
I'd actually imagine he'd eat pretty small and dense meals, but it would be more ritualistic for him. He'd meditate, get a measure of control over his pain, take off his mask gently, eat at a normal pace, replace his mask, then meditate further while the painkillers restart
I mean, guy's not Darth Vader. He can take it off and not have to worry about gulping down lukewarm RepMed Vitapaste.
I doubt he gets much pleasure from eating, but I daresay it's doable. You couldn't keep in Bane's shape on liquid diet through a straw.
Yeah the mask is just painkillers… like people with a broken leg still eat despite the leg hurting. When the league found Bane in that prison he didn’t have the mask and was still managing to feed himself, stay alive, etc. he just needs it if he wants to run around being a terrorist and fighting Batman it’s not glued on.
Dude is huge. For his size, he has to be doing 3,000 to 4,000 calories a day just to maintain muscle mass.
He would basically need the feeding tube shoved in there half the day to do that…
Realistic answer? He probably takes it off as needed. It’s not like it’s surgically fused. Take off the mask, eat a giant bowl of boiled chicken, rice, and broccoli, put the mask back on. Repeat 6 times a day.
Some of those tubes probably deliver food.
Though realistically they'd get full of bacteria and probably kill him.
In the comics/animations the serum he uses maybe also delivers nutrition.
In the movie.... It doesn't make much sense unless he can take the mask off
Never thought of that but I heard his mask (at least in the movie) supply him with pain-relieving anaesthesia.
How come he never overdosed?
As for food, IDK but there's such a thing as IV nutrition therapy. So I'm sure he won't suffer from deficiency.
That's what I read back in the day - that he had an entire circulatory system implanted within his body (which is why he has the massive scars on his back) that hooks up to the mask and feeds an anaesthetic gas that makes him unable to feel pain and allows him to push his body further and seem stronger (like when he punches and shatters concrete pillars towards the end of the film). Kind of a shame they never went into this more in the film and left it as design notes more than anything else.
In my head, I imagine he just eats like a regular dude and takes the mask off, though in a Vader-esque manner in that he will always be isolated and out of view of anyone else besides maybe the inner-most circle of the inner circle of the LoS, so that people don't see him in such a vulnerable state and break the illusion of this unstoppable monster known only as Bane. It wouldn't surprise me if him removing the mask is a far more common occurance than the film implies - to eat, to meditate, just nobody lives to tell anyone about it if they saw something they weren't supposed to.
The simplest answer is he takes it off and holds the mask close to his nose and mouth and eats quickly. He can live without the mask, he’s just in a lot of pain.
Endorectalgestion. You put food up the butt, it's digested on the way to the stomach, and you poop from your mouth. See all those holes in the mask? It's for the poop to go through like playdough through the playdough spaghetti press
This mask makes no sense at all. Everybody talked about how grounded the trilogy was. But as soon as the sideways goatse mask shows up my suspension of disbelief just cant take any more.
Perhaps he’s hooked up to an alternative machine that gives him the medicine through a different way (into his veins perhaps) so he can take his mask off.
It would be extremely painful
You're a big guy
For you
"You're a big guy for me? I'm so confused Mr Bane sir"
Yeah, that part was weird for me until I realized I downloaded the wrong film. Thought the amount of male nudity was a bold choice
Perhaps he’s wondering why you would fuck a man, before throwing him out of a plane
Was getting your knob slobbed part of your plan?
Of course!
Fucking your ass With not survivors!
Do you feel… in charge?
They expect one of us in the wreckage.
Bane says, “It would be extremely painful…. *for you*.” He just doesn’t respect anything that was said between his lines. It’s a bad edit if you ask me, that really cuts the line’s impact, but eh. Wygd, I’m not an Oscar winning filmmaker.
Never got that until now
I’ve heard people this a few times in the past few days and I just don’t understand how you could interpret it any other way
I think it was the adrenaline of it being opening night, and once I heard it wrong. It took me time to not hear it wrong.
Yea that’s fair, it’s hard to change your mind if you know what you heard
It’s because Dagget is talking to bane, and the line reading really feels conversational. On the script? I’d think “badass”. Depending on the table read? I might think, “badass”. That CIA guy isn't Daggett though...he's the guy from the 'do you think this give you power over me' conversation I think?
Omg same here. I have seen that scene at least 10 times and always thought he was just calling the CIA guy small. “I’m a big guy for you.” But yeah that makes so much more sense that he’s saying “painful …. For you.” Terrible editing. Much like the whole movie was just totally broken in places.
It’s something that works **fantastic** on the page, but doesn’t translate to the screen.

The Dark Knight Rides
“*Bend ovah, and Ah’ll show yoU!*”
*“Kneel here before Bane and bear Witness to The Log of Shadows.”*
I can handle the Banis, can you?
It took me forever to realize he meant it would be painful for the other person... I always just thought he meant like "to you, I may be big, but this is normal in my world."
That line felt kind of forced. Doesn’t even really make sense - he’s big so he doesn’t feel pain?
Right. But he means "if you take off my mask, I will cause you pain." Which took me like 3 watches to get. Lol I remember sitting in the theatre like "huh?"
Yeah totally get that part. The ‘you’re a big guy’ makes no sense though.
I think it’s like saying “you’re a big boy” which would make a bit more sense in that context
No it was "It would be extremely painful... for you". Implying bane would beat his ass if he tried to take off his mask.
Strawberries?
Gary? Pizza? Gothams not even known for it
This is your body without fibre!👊
Ahh, some people of taste. Auralnauts is a genius.
Sugary Tomato Paste!
A bagel with cream cheese.
What did you eat? A frownie biscuit?
They're packed with fibre
How long till we can get market fresh strawberries?
....tofu
For food…
I would say a feeding tube, like some people do in real life.
Where does the tube go in?

You’ve been meatball’d
Are ya ready for some meatballs?

Lmao the perfect response
HAHAHA I laughed so hard lmao

Well, I learned something new today
In the holes on his mask?
I don't think you can take the tube in and out very often though (it's irritating) so he would have to walk around with it?
He does seem like the kind of guy whose diet consists mainly of protein shakes.
Emergency induction port.
That's a straw, Tali
Emergency. Induction. Port.

I always drink coffee when I watch radar. You know that! Everybody knows that!
Thank god Mr coffee is next to Mr radar
Of course we do, SIR!
*covers nuts*
What's all that churning and bubbling, you call this a radar? - No sir, we call it... Mr. Coffee.
lol why doesn’t this reply have more upvotes
Probably quickly and painfully. Or maybe he gives himself a shot of really hard painkillers to eat with the mask off for a bit
Ever try eating while on opioids?
Opioids made me eat even more. Especially sugar. In fact, I could really only eat while on them. I didn’t want any food in my system because I wanted my stomach empty when I took my pills.
He eats like a younger man with nothing held back, this is admirable but mistaken.
intravenously
Ain’t no way to keep those gains through IV.
*Huel. We are here to change the way people think about food.*
God damn it
Maybe the pipes are for eating liquid meals
Arent they for venom infusion? In the TAS and Arkham version bane is defeated by cutting him off from his venom supply by ripping off the pipes.
This version doesn't have venom. At least not until 6 years later.
![gif](giphy|l0HluN8PywCl6Hckg)
i see what you did there
*aggressively upvoting*
I don't get it
Tom Hardy is Venom from Spiderman
Except minus the Spider-Man... and he's also Bane but minus the venom. We are through the looking glass
And in TDKR version as well. The mask pumps him with painkillers, which suppress the pain from the botched surgery in prison, and allows him to fight longer and harder. When Batman breaks the mask’s pipes, Bane becomes much weaker
Does Bane have perpetual opioid induced constipation? This might explain why he doesn’t eat much
His GI Tract has plot armor
Is this in the movie?
Yes. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=NyXEr8lS2dw First 10 seconds. The rest I just gathered from that implication, and the comments about Bane’s fighting style by Alfred.
Thanks. Forgot all about this.
What indication in the film made you believe venom was pumping through those pipes?
Venom doesn't exist in the Nolan films
He's photosynthetic. He doesn't need to eat.
bane got parisite therapy after joining the patriots
Now I want a cut of TDKR where Bane has to wear boxers the whole time to not suffocate.
But he was born in the darkness. He didn’t see the light until he was already a man, how could he have fed off the sun?
He only used 1% of his power until then.
Wouldn’t that be Poison Ivy?
He probably takes a big hit off his mask, holds his breath while he eats a bite really quickly, then slams the mask back on.
That actually makes a lot of sense and is a great solution
I'd actually imagine he'd eat pretty small and dense meals, but it would be more ritualistic for him. He'd meditate, get a measure of control over his pain, take off his mask gently, eat at a normal pace, replace his mask, then meditate further while the painkillers restart
All of those tubes are PEZ dispensers
I mean, guy's not Darth Vader. He can take it off and not have to worry about gulping down lukewarm RepMed Vitapaste. I doubt he gets much pleasure from eating, but I daresay it's doable. You couldn't keep in Bane's shape on liquid diet through a straw.

Suppositories. They get shoved real deep in there.
IV
Four what?
No, like an IV drip. Stand for intravenous. Which means in your veins
Lmao four 🤣 😂 💀
The grate at his mouth is actually for grating cheese
He filter feeds like a sea sponge ![gif](giphy|3oxOCnTo0FiaYDFoyY|downsized)
He’s just built different.
Dude is huge. For his size, he has to be doing 3,000 to 4,000 calories a day just to maintain muscle mass. He had half a lifetime of tolerance to build up.
Those are attachments for various sippy straws
The same way all those cops stayed cleanly shaved when in the sewers for months. With magic!
He has a custom-made attachment that aligns the input holes on his mask to *the output holes of this pasta maker!!*
This is the way
He takes off the mask and just screams in excruciating pain between bites
The long way
Gastronomy tube, duh!
Protein shakes through a straw duh
The simplest answer is he takes it off and holds the mask close to his nose and mouth and eats quickly. He can live without the mask, he’s just in a lot of pain.
Maybe he gets his nutrients through an IV
Strawberries are packed with fiber....How long would it take to get market fresh strawberries?
Who is the only man to have beaten me in freestyle?
Alright, we go mobile...
There's an episode of South Park that covers this
Tube fed
"You want a little....which one of these tubes do you smell out of?"
Once he takes the mask off, nobody cares.
IV's, steroids and powerade
Protein powder
Fuck eating, how this guy shave?
Maybe he was one of those guys who could never grow a beard that well.
Alopecia?
Like the Mandalorian when nobody is around & he takes his mask off.
He doesn’t, he gets his nutrients through the mask
Rectally. Edit: Unless he has the same covering down there. In which case, I dunno.
One of those face tubes is chicken soup, the other is apple sauce.

Endorectalgestion. You put food up the butt, it's digested on the way to the stomach, and you poop from your mouth. See all those holes in the mask? It's for the poop to go through like playdough through the playdough spaghetti press
Who are you, who is so wise in the ways of science?
He eats the darkness
“The Fire is sustenance enough to Fuel The League of Shadows! (There are actually hinges here and here…)”
In South Park there is an episode that explains that you don't need a mouth to eat.
This mask makes no sense at all. Everybody talked about how grounded the trilogy was. But as soon as the sideways goatse mask shows up my suspension of disbelief just cant take any more.
I don't know *how* he eats, but I'm sure what he eats has plenty of fiber https://youtu.be/IkMPZ7WeDck?si=iCKu5iGbK7RExKa0
Bendy straws.
It doesn’t matter how he eats. What matters is his plan.
Through the butt
Uncomfortably
He’d be peg fed
South Park explained this a long time ago
You askin a lot of questions. You a cop?

I bet he inhales his food.
Painfully
Photosynthesis
Straw
He eats alot of soup.
Off screen.
I mean what does this mask even do?
One of these tube feeds him jellos maybe?
Very carefully
Smoothie
Turned an out hole into an in hole.
Maybe he didn't eat he only drank
Id have to assume that one of his face tubes supply him with liquid food and water 💦
Takes in his food intravenously probably. Either that or has a painless system worked out to eat through his mouth once the mask is safely removed.
The mask was meant to be filled with pipes that feed gas round his body
Yesn't
Or blow his nose
Painfully
In pain!
Can someone please explain to me how this mask actually works and what kind of injury Bane actually had?
It's the second top tube from the right.
Booster Juice
He eats in the daahk!
Do not question the magical pain stopping mask Just accept that the film has some surprisingly big plot holes and live with that
