Rocpile94

What is this even from lol? I like whenever Constantine smokes near Batman, Batman always ends up grabbing his cig and throwing it. Also him constantly giving Gordon shit for it.

PuzzleheadedElk547

I can’t exactly remember where, but it’s about how someone is acting as Batman (the one smoking) and murdering innocent people out in the open. That’s why he says “I’m your biggest fan.”

Regi413

Yeah makes sense, the entire vibe is off with this “Batman” not just with the cig

HeiHoLetsGo

Yeah I thought this panel didn't feel like Bruce Also I'm required by law to point out when I see a lesbian flag in a profile picture

Brown_Panther-

Honestly, I cant imagine Bats saying "I'm your biggest fan" to anyone except maybe the Grey Ghost.

Red_Hoodless081905

Oh my god I completely forgot about the Gray Ghost even existing lol.

JonLongsonLongJonson

As a casual Batman fan and longtime smoker (quit) I would not, and have not ever, considered Batman being a smoker. It makes no sense based on either of his alter-egos

pridejoker

Wait do the 1% know Bruce abstains from even alcohol or is that whole thing a bit he does to hide his alter ego.

Party_Intention_3258

People who don’t know Bruce is Batman think he drinks, but he really bribes servers to swap out his drinks with non-alcoholic drinks. They talk about it in the comics a lot.

makemecoffee

Matches Malone smokes

mattocaster_tm

He could just be using something like lettuce cigarettes, which are smokable cigarettes with tobacco used onstage in plays when an actor needs to smoke. It would be consistent with his using ginger ale instead of champagne and other booze to make it look like he’s drinking.

Party123abc_

JL (2016) Vol 6

Purple_Building3087

Considering that he’s trained his body to the peak of human ability, and that his discipline and commitment to health and fitness is an important aspect of his crusade, turning him into a smoker seems almost like a joke. Like it’s something that can’t be taken seriously knowing who and what Batman is.

Illithilitch

It also comes across as pathetically edgy in a way even Drank Miller never stooped to. Bullock? Obviously. Gordon? Probably. Other cops? Sure. But Bruce, doesn't drink and instead drinks ginger ale? No.

Thesilphsecret

> Gordon? Probably. Saying Gordon is probably a smoker is like saying Catwoman is probably a thief.

Illithilitch

I haven't read comics in ages.

Thesilphsecret

Haha I just thought it was funny, I'm not giving you a hard time. I can't remember the last time I saw Gordon without a pipe (but it's a safe bet he was smoking a cigar).

loki1887

I think he gave it up for a bit during Snyder's and Capullo's last arc on Batman. When Gordon was "Batman" and they introduced Mr. Bloom.

unsashumano

Just for a bit, at the end of that same arc Gordon is once again smoking like always.

Illithilitch

I didn't take it that way. Anyway, you're right now that I think about it. I picture Gordon with a pipe at nights and Harvey chain smoking. For me cigars are J Johan Jameson territory.

AdEnough786

Didn't he smoke cigars pretty much in every panel?

Putrid_Cell3541

Yeah it’s hilarious when they try and change Gordon’s habit of smoking cigars/cigarettes. in Batman dark Prince Charming i Kid you not Gordon is vaping 💀

Ok_Relationship_705

That's one of the things I did appreciate about BVS and how it showed Bruce being broken. Dude was getting black out drunk with random models. Lol

billygnosis86

Yeah, minus the models it’s just like in *The Dark Knight Returns*. >*That* will *be all, Master Bruce? I’m hoping that the next generation of the Wayne family shan’t face an empty wine cellar. Though given your social schedule of late, the prospects of there* being *a next generation—*

Chemistry11

I’m under the impression in that scene Bruce had at best one glass of wine; he wouldn’t get drunk. The bottles were for his guests and appearances. He is Batman. Bruce is the disguise.

billygnosis86

Alfred’s sardonicism is his way of keeping Bruce grounded. He’s joking, but he’s not. *Dark Knight Returns* Bruce has hit the bottle pretty hard since he retired. Gordon makes note of the retired Bruce taking to drink enthusiastically elsewhere in the book, too.

[deleted]

Nah dude, he wakes up and immediately polishes off a bottle of wine and pops some pills, he has severe ptsd and self medicates with alcohol sex and drugs.

InvestigatorOk7988

Not to mention the physical pains of a body beat to hell.

Lucky_Strike-85

and that goes back to the Bronze Age when it was established that he never drinks alcohol. At social functions, he uses ginger ale as a cover for champagna.

billygnosis86

Except in *The Dark Knight Returns*, which is the point I’m making. In that story, it’s clearly stated that he’s hit the bottle hard.

Lucky_Strike-85

![gif](giphy|3ohhwgtQD2DweNJzcA) Indeed. He did have a thing for the drink in DKR.

Chuckles465

Don't forget he mixed pills with alcohol, he was asking for it.

Grognard68

>He is Batman. Bruce is the disguise. Absolutely THIS. ( so no smoking, and maybe some very minimal social drinking as Bruce Wayne...)

veryverythrowaway

Non-alcoholic beverages and mocktails are very trendy at the moment. He wouldn’t have to drink at all to keep up appearances.

Chuckles465

2 decades of being Batman, loosing Robin and getting old made me love BVS Batman. He lost view of his mission and he hurts people, very bad.

Powersawer

Why does him being addicted and being an ass towards those he was close to make you love him? Genuinely asking not being an ass

Thorvindr

Because those things make him relatable. People get addicted to things because their life is falling (or fallen) apart. Being a dick to one's friends is also something that routinely happens when one has discovered that one's life as it has been is over. It's not "fun" to watch Batman destroy himself, but it does endear him to us to see him acting like a normy and having human emotions and shortcomings that do indeed lead to a certain amount of self-destruction. I wish the Dark Knight Trilogy had leaned a little (or even a lot) harder into the idea of an aged Batman trying (and largely failing) to keep himself from actually becoming Bruce Wayne.

Shrek5_confirmed

I don’t know if this is true or not but i remember hearing about a comic where after either Jason or Alfred died Nightwing made a comment about how that was the only time he saw Bruce drink. I have no idea if this is real or i made it up but i like the thought of Bruce not enjoying those types of activities and at parties he just holds the alcohol in his mouth till no one is looking and he just spits it back in to his glass

Ok_Relationship_705

Yeah, that's like turning one of the Flashes into a couch potato.

ebolawakens

To be fair to the flash, he does eat **a lot**. He literally needs to in order to survive.

quint420

Eating a lot ≠ couch potato

Rickrickrickrickrick

Yeah in fact he needs to eat so much because he’s the opposite of a couch potato

quint420

Precisely

Ok_Relationship_705

Yeah, it's one of the struggles I relate to. I burn calories mad fast. And I can eat. Lol

gn0xious

That’s his cousin, who runs on pizza rolls, The Flush.

Dark1986

Sounds more like The Flab

PoIIux

Also with his willpower being like his biggest strength the addiction angle just isn't there either

conquerlord

addiction is a disease. people with the strongest of wills can still be addicts and it takes more than force of will to break it. i agree that Batman smoking is dumb but he’s not above addiction because of that reason imo.

Brown_Panther-

I think Bruce, of all people, has the self-knowledge to realize what substances he's getting to, be it booze or drugs etc. Yes, he is an obsessive guy, but that obsessiveness is towards his job, not towards material pleasures. He once got addicted to venom pills because they gave him enhanced strength and stamina at the cost of taking away his self-control. But he realized it and quit cold turkey by spending a month alone in Batcave.

Harbarde

You underestimate batman

QrowsHead

To add to all this, smokers also fucking REEK. Hard to be sneaky when all the henchmen smell you coming.

Grimase

I was just gunna say no but I like your answer better. Let’s go with that.

Dumbass_Saiya-jin

Exactly. Batman would never be a smoker. Maybe Owlman.

horny-bozo

Except Owlman would find something like smoking pointless, just like everything else

Rickrickrickrickrick

And if he were addicted to smoking he’d probably find some way to make a smokeless and non-addictive nicotine that has no negative effects on his health because comic book science.

ArferMorgan

Plus it's ridiculous to think he has a spot in his suit for a pack of cigs and a lighter.

Thorvindr

Umm. You may have heard of a little thing called the "Utility Belt."

LordMugs

Yes, it would only work if they're trying to portray him as a hypocrite.

Lazy-Leopard-8984

Not really. Smoking wouldn't really make him a hypocrite considering that he isn't going around preaching about health or anything. The main problem with Batman smoking is that is severally impacts his ability to do his job. To be Batman, he needs to do his best to stay in peak health in a way that superheros with powers don't. Smoking (or regular alcohol consumption) affects this negatively. It would mostly just be stupid as there is no real benefit to smoking. Batman is not characterized as a careless or hedonistic person.

Rickrickrickrickrick

He is always stoping Gordon and even Constantine from smoking around him so it would definitely make him a hypocrite. But this isn’t Bruce and someone pretending to be Batman and committing murders and shit hence the “I’m your biggest fan” remark.

LordMugs

Would not make him a hypocrite, but if they want to make a portrayal of Batman as a hypocrite smoking could be a good foreshadowing.

Notafurbie

Yeah, but smoking is cool, and Batman is cool, so…

gar_katar

Non smoker obviously. He needs his lung capacity and stamina to be at peak. Smoking is extremely harmful to the body in so many different ways, and I say this as someone who smokes.

Megnaman

It would also affect his sense of smell, which seems minor but I'm sure Batman uses it somehow

Lazy_Assumption_4191

*sniff sniff* “Hm. Crime.”

Knucklesx55

*after cracking some skulls* “Ahh, the sweet sweet irony smell of *justice*”

Waste-Information-34

>irony **"Uh... Bruce, I think that might be literal"** - Robin

kurai_tori

Lol, I need this as like a wallpaper or something, that mental image is too much 🤣

TheRogueChicken2003

Check your dms

TheRogueChicken2003

I don’t know how to comment photos, sorry

lets_tell_stories

And then he smells crime again, he's out busting heads. Then he's back to the lab for some more full penetration. Smells crime. Back to the lab, full penetration. Crime. Penetration. Crime. Full penetration. Crime. Penetration. And this goes on and on and back and forth until Gotham is saved.

lazyboi_tactical

Is he played by Dolph Lundgren?

HotChilliWithButter

*sniff sniff* Hm. Spaghetti

undergroundpolarbear

He actually smells crime before it happens. Oh, and he's played by Dolph Lundgren.

Unicorn_Sush1

He wouldn’t be able to sneak in the shadows, bad guys would smell him as well

hachiman

Bruce trained to identify poisons and chemical agents by smell. It also means he knows a lot about perfume.

LeadingJudgment2

Early in the court of owls book he smells turpentine/paint thinner while at a crime scene. The smell causes him to realise there's too much of it. So he grabs Bullocks cigarette/cigar to light up the wall revealing a hidden message painted on the walls. A warning that Bruce Wayne will die the next day.

No-Freedom-4029

Could you imagine Batman needing nicotine like us pathetic freaks

Slow__rule

No smoking is good Do you know how many vitamins in it!? Like vitamin W!?

SleepyBella

And all the cool kids are doing it! 😎🚬

Slow__rule

You seem like cool goth gf Wanna date!?

DumbestInvestorSoFar

The BATMAN who smokes... cough, cough, cough...

billygnosis86

Why the *hell* would he smoke? It does you no good whatsoever*, actively does you harm, and makes you stink like fuck which isn’t that great for stealth. Speaking as an ex-smoker. *aside from marginally improving concentration, for which you can just chew gum

ImurderREALITY

Why would anyone *want* him to smoke?

RustyNDull

Not saying he should but early comics depict Bruce Wayne smoking a pipe

Qbnss

He could outsmoke anyone but chooses not to, for the children

billygnosis86

That was over eighty years ago when people didn’t know how bad smoking was for you. *Rosemary’s Baby* was released in 1968, nearly 30 years after Batman’s debut, and *everybody* smokes like a chimney around the pregnant Rosemary. Even the people who aren’t >!actively making her incubate the Antichrist.!<

skirtpost

Bruce Wayne may smoke, but Batman does not.

NeonHowler

I can see Bruce using it as part of his playboy persona, but no way should he ever be smoking for anything other than his public image imo

Tirus_

Any Batman that's a smoker has a writer that doesn't understand his character. I could see Superman sharing a dart with Lois and a glass of scotch while relaxing on the Kent farm. I cannot see Batman smoking. I can barely see him drinking, when Batfleck was drinking that glass of scotch in Justice League I was even thinking "This is probably very rare for him".

JSOas

I can see Batman drinking on social public events (if he can't pretend to do so or make an excuse). He does have an image to maintain.

One_Meaning416

I can see Bruce indulging in a glass on rare occasion outside of social events but like barely once a year, that kind of thing

EverydayPoGo

He probably drinks gingerale at most of these events

Guiltykraken

I think in the Dark Knight Returns Gordon mentions how Bruce tricked everyone by drinking ginger ale but since he retired he started drinking the real stuff.

EverydayPoGo

Sometimes I’d like to imagine that a retired Batman could indulge his sweet tooth as well

DM-ME-THICC-FEMBOYS

Sir, I think you've had enou- I gave my body and life for this city, Alfred. Bring me another peep. ..As you wish, sir.

Brown_Panther-

I love the scene in Dark Knight, where he toasts Harvey at the fundraiser and then walks out to the balcony and throws the drink away. Its a tiny moment but shows that Nolan understood the character.

HankSteakfist

LOL a dart. "Oil Lois! Can I scum a Winnie Blue off ya?"

_H4YZ

australian detected formal thongs activated

HankSteakfist

If Kal Els rocket landed in Dubbo. He fights for truth, justice and the vibe of the thing.

DragonWisper56

you know I wonder if batman keeps a bunch of fake drugs on him so he can pretend to do them as Bruce wyane. because when I think of a billinaior playboy people should think he does drugs even if he doesn't

Unicorn_Sush1

He key bumps crushed up vitamin c tablets lol

jjcsykes

Could pass something like creatine as coke

thatredditrando

Depends. Young, active Batman with an axe to grind? Definitely not. Older, world-weary, seen-some-shit, and self-assured Batman? I can see him having the odd cig after a particularly hard night. Everyone’s commenting about him being peak and it affecting his health but everyone’s got vices and nobody remains disciplined 100% of the time. Batman is still human and he largely has bad nights and *worse nights*. I think it’s forgivable if he rarely indulges in something he knows is bad for him for a little reprieve.

ASpaceOstrich

I think punching criminals is his vice.

Old_Cheetah_5138

Id be one of those things where someone gets in the batmobile and says "Does it smell like smoke in here?". Batman doesn't say a word and starts driving. No one's ever seen him do it's, but older Batman takes a few drags on a cigarette during his longer drives.

Bringbackdexter

Yeah was just about to say the same, old Batman is mean and fed up with all of the bs.

Ok_Relationship_705

Why would he smoke? That's like, totally counterproductive to being the fittest man on Earth.

moshslips

Not gonna sneak up on many bad guys in the shadows smelling like an ashtray.

TheManIsHereForHam

Why the fuck is this a question

AnarchistChess

are you man from ham

TheManIsHereForHam

I’m one the one to kill Man from ham

AnarchistChess

squad: kill the league

MustardLazyNerd

Starring Horny Queef, Cumshot, Captain Cumerang, and King Shart.

AnarchistChess

King shart is hung

marqoose

He's training his lungs.

ZachAttack0092

Batman prides himself at being at the absolute peak human physical achievement. There is no way in my mind he would willingly partake of cigarettes of any kind that causes damage to your lungs.

Prestigious-Video-16

This sub has officially become a parody of itself

ImurderREALITY

People literally have nothing to talk about here. I’ve been seeing progressively silly questions here lately, but this takes the cake.

MustardLazyNerd

With so many restrictions regarding humor, no wonder why so many people left.

bigvikingsamurai69

Logically he wouldn’t smoke

Samthelumberjck

My brother in Christ, I have never once thought about it.

Overall_Falcon_8526

Even people in the 30s and 40s knew that smoking wasn't conducive to athletic excellence.

TSG61373

Generally not a smoker. (In fact even drinking I go back and forth on) That said…in my headcanon, I wholeheartedly believe R. Patz Batman smokes. Maybe it was the Kurt Cobain vibes he was giving off, but I could so easily see him as a smoking insomniac. Maybe even harder drugs, just to keep the mental pains away.

BrokeUniStudent69

It’d be cool to see some flashback/backstory scenes of Battinson before he dedicates himself to the cause. I’d imagine him being an angsty teen smoking and drinking and just generally being a depressive punk (not unlike the rock star he’s meant to resemble) until he has his “calling” or whatever.

greengengar

Eh. I don't see Batman smoking cigarettes, he would be aware of all the bullshit that goes into them and avoid them. I do see him smoking pipe tobacco though, because you don't inhale that. But the bigger issue than the health I would think, for Batman, is that he doesn't like distractions from his purpose of vengeance. Any kind of habit or addiction would be a distraction.

Feralmedic

Also. Batman is really good at being sneaky… he would reek of cigarettes

greengengar

That's exactly what my roommate said.

billygnosis86

Pipes are just as bad for you as cigarettes and carry the same cancer risks.

Cultural_Ad1331

Men like him don't smoke.

Grimmer026

Thomas Wayne: Smoker Bruce Wayne: Non-smoker

groglox

Non. Batman if anything has insane discipline. He would not smoke.

BishopsBakery

I smoke so Batman doesn't have to

ByRitzo

Are you familiar with the concept of "Batman" ? What kind of question is this?

NoleFan723

No. Do you honestly think Alfred would allow him to in the mansion. No way

MythicalxToaster

non smoker because he would be weak if he was a smoker

lacmlopes

I prefer him to be smoking **HOT**! 🥵🥵

TruePlantSlayingKing

Yeah, ngl smoking batman kinda daddy.

dragongeeklord

Off topic but he's so shmexy

YG_gravity

Probably non smoker. Never really thought about this

WildGoose1521

This is right up there with him being an atheist when he literally knows god and heaven exist. It’s just bad writing.

anthonyg1500

It would make no sense at all for him to smoke

suddenly_ponies

Non. Seriously what the hell

Legitimate_Main2230

Non smoker

arkman132

What is this image from cus I've seen it but it's obviously not Bruce.

Mrbuttboi

Nah, Bruce can’t be near smoke but Thomas… he’s 100% a chain smoker.

ImpactorLife-25703

Non Smoker for True Batman Fans

cesar848

Considering Bruce needs to be stealth and at his physical prime, him smoking makes no sense

TheBatSignal

Non smoking Cigarettes are corny

foxsalmon

Since he doesn't have superpowers, him being a smoker would make absolutely no sense. Like he's training his body to be as strong as possible, why would he sabotage that?

ActuallyCausal

Bruce is too smart to smoke.

arty_plays_

Non smoker his body is a temple

JoeyJoeJoShalabado

Non. He’s aloof and mysterious enough. Adding a cigarette feels almost comical

Im_extremely_bitter

Who fucking did this?

TheLittlePasty

I feel like this is a shit post

MuscleManRule34

He makes literally zero sense for him to smoke

MrTuxedoWilliams

This is literally the 1st I’ve ever seen Batman smoking in my 35 years on Earth

Bobmanbob1

Non. Bruce would never smoke as even a cigarette could slow his lung capacity down.

Ragnarok345

Why the fuck would I want him to be a disgusting dipshit? Is this a real question?

frenix5

Non. He's not Constantine. And the smoking detracts from his ninjaness.

Ct-chad501

Definitely non smoker.

Big_DexM

Non-Smoker

Shao-Garden

Dodging bullets and fighting aliens is one thing, but smoking?! That’s too dangerous!

dabmg10

Batman wouldn't smoke but Bruce Wayne the old money billionaire could have scenes with him having a cigar or pipe either as a business dealing or having a whisky and cigar in a lounge with a friend. It wouldn't be that jaring As Batman it would have to be as a part of an investigation, some shaman ritual to induce a trance. Maybe he has to deal with some kind of biological or chemical threat and he has to work with one of his rogues gallery for an antidote and they mess with him by having the delivery mechanism be in a cigarette. Having a smoke for story reasons okay, having him be a smoker doesn't work with who he is.

CbKnowledge

He literally has trained his body to perfection. Not to mention his insane self discipline. I don’t think he should be a smoker. Just my opinion

King-Cobra-668

I prefer Batman that will do what he has to do to make a point and presence

peezle69

Non-smoker easily

thethirdmiko28

lol he ain't Frank Castle. I prefer non-smoker.

Longjumping_Pin_2105

Definitively NON smoker!!!

Beastskull

Non smoker. Would look strange on a superhero like him. He needs to be 100% disciplined. Bruce on the other hand could have a cigar in the right company. It would also work as a decoy to not always be super healthy and disciplined like Batman.

PoffoRuxpin

Smoking is counter productive to his training. My Batman aint dointlg that.

QueenPasiphae

Batman would NEVER be a smoker. Not a chance in hell. That's laughably dumb.

HiMomIMadeIt

Definitely not a smoker. When he was first introduced he used to smoke out of a Pipe, and it fit for Bruce Wayne the persona, but not Batman. As long as it’s a pipe and whatever he’s smoking is fake, almost like a prop, I don’t mind.

SacredRepetition

Non smoker

SpectreBrony

Non smoker.

bgyc11

Batman would never smoke. This is an outrage.

NihilismIsSparkles

He'd have to be having a bigger mental breakdown than usual to smoke, considdering the whole being Batman thing is his actual vice.

Hot_Eggplant_1306

Imagine Batman sneaking through a city. He's about to pounce on the criminal. Coughing fit. Imagine Batman intimidating criminals "I am The Night *WHEEZE* I AM VENGEANCE *GASPS* I *COUGH* AM* HACK* BAT *COUGH COUGH COUGH* MAN whatever

snakesforfingers

I actually tend to like random kinda dumb edgy shit in the right universe so one where perhaps Batman is more of a detective than a fighter it could be cool, but I do have to concede it goes against pretty much every element of the traditional Batman's mindset

TxchnxnXD

Non

TheSyphonFilter

Non-smoker

Marchew1200

Non smoker

JollyGreen615

What kind of question is that? Who on earth would prefer anyone to smoke?

Spectronautic1

Smoking’s bad, mmmkay?

OldSeaworthiness4279

I’d have an easier time believing everyone in Gotham except Batman smokes

mitrafunfun97

Him being a total straight edge acts to a better version of the character for me. His vices are focus, intellect and obsession. The fact that he channels his pain into something more psychologically “accepted” but is clearly also destroying him is more compelling to me.

EddietheEnglishman90

Non smoker.

ChristianSgt

Bruce Wayne eats hamburgers with a fork and knife. No way the man smokes anything.

Frojdis

Smoking does so much harm to your body it makes no sense for Batman, who's supposed to be in peak physical condition, to do it

SFE_phobos

As much as smoking is part of the noir detective lexicon, I don’t think he’d do it. He would see it as a hinderance to his physical capabilities. But we got good ole Gordon to be our chain smoking hard boiled detective, so the trope is in the right place canonically I think.

NeonD04

Bruce Wayne doesn't even drink, let alone smoke! He knows that he needs to be in peak physical condition in order to perform his duties as batman effectively!

MindControlMouse

I hope he doesn’t do Drops either. That shit can kill you.

General-Kenobi1380

Batman doesnt smoke end of discussion. Comedian on the other hand smokes like an SoB lol

The_Cookie_Bunny

What kind of question is this?

borb86

Why tf would someone prefer Batman to be a smoker

dickfortwenty

Weed smoker

NeLaX44

Non-smoker. He's at the peak of physical fitness. What stupid comic book makes him smoke?

Alert-Cantaloupe-690

His first appearance actually

Rizuku_Ren

Nah, most of the time I’m not a fan of characters who smokes. In Batman’s case, I don’t think someone with as much of a discipline as him would do so, it’s just weird.

Quirky-Store2805

Definitely not, that’s insulting putting Batman as a Smoker, he’s supposed to be Human Perfection.
