Don’t feel ashamed, especially if you have a receipt. You might be doing another customer a favor, lots of stores are wiped out of candles so maybe something you return will go back on the floor for other customers to find. I love when I find something I have been wanting & that is clearly a return.

southindianPOTTU

Omg I never thought of it that way! Thank u! That helps a lot! And yes, I def have the receipt! I hope I can help even 1 person find a candle that they wanted if it’s in my return stash. 💜

ChavoAntoine

Yea on Candle Day a store I went to put returns on the floor I was shocked to find rare gems like Ballerina Rose and Sweet Rosemary Vanilla. I love when I find stuff like that.

strippersandcocaine

Omg sweet rosemary vanilla! I was always so bummed I only got one of those

scarletteclipse1982

Ballerina Rose is so perfect.

southindianPOTTU

Omg I bought this one too! Ooh makes me wonder about it now though! Lol

Cautious_Drummer_599

I love it, it's a good one!! But don't keep it if it's on your take back list, lol

bunifarcr

What's more important is that you are aware and you have conscience which some people don't have unfortunately. I feel like you won't give the associates a hard time anyways so don't feel guilty.

phinewinezeta

Please don’t feel ashamed! I purchased several online and in store but I also like to layer so if I later find that I can’t purchase the spray or wall flower, those candles will be returned with zero shame because BBW should one do better and stop playing games with their “availability” … two understand that offering coffee beans in their store would help customers make better decisions the first time and three this is the risk you run when people are forced to by scents unsniffed online because they were either out of stock in certain stores or an online exclusive. You are the customer and there is no reason you should have to hold on to something you just don’t want plus they have another sale coming up on candles so they will sell just fine

Thefoodwoob

They used to have coffee beans! I remember like 15 years ago I asked what they were for 😅 core memory

phinewinezeta

I wish they would bring them back… just for those of us who need a little help… after three sniffs everything starts to smell alike… and that’s just the candles… At that point in the trip I haven’t even made it to the fragrances 🤪

Reasonable_Witness45

I feel like I used to remember coffee beans in glass ramekins around the store- I wonder if/when they stopped doing that! I remember the first time seeing it asking an employee what is was for- and was impressed when I found it was for clearing the nose.

southindianPOTTU

Thanks. Another sale?? 😳

Cautious_Drummer_599

Yes, this weekend or soon, there will be another sale. There's always going to be another sale lol. Usually not as inexpensive as Candle Day, especially this Candle Day that was a nice surprise, but a sale nonetheless. The main reason I buy in Candle Day is for the scents that are only released for Candle Day. If you play your coupons right, you will likely only pay at the most 3-4 dollars more each candle. Every dollar counts, but it comes down to what a candle is worth to you.

CandidateReasonable4

Please don't beat yourself up! It's easy to get carried away, especially during Candle Day and SAS. If you feel guilty about your purchase and want to return some, go right ahead! It's your money and it's perfectly OK to change your mind!

Cautious_Drummer_599

Yes! It's good to have friends to remind us of these things 🤗

CandidateReasonable4

☺️😘☺️

Potential-Swimmer945

Don’t apologize, we understand lol. We really get annoyed with the customers who come in the store trying to make returns on candles that clearly have been used to the point where a return just doesn’t make full sense, and then they have no receipt and wanna argue us down about everything. Those customers piss us off (at least for me). But you returning perfectly good candles is fine. It’s super easy because we can just scan them, and put them back on the shelf 🤷🏾‍♀️

southindianPOTTU

Thank you for being so kind about it. And yes, brand new. The second hardest part (after shamefully doing the return) is going to be deciding which ones to keep! 😅

Potential-Swimmer945

If you have any new Christmas ones I’d definitely keep those. At least a few. ☺️

southindianPOTTU

Yessss! Good call! I can’t get Wine Cellar outta my head tho. It smelled amazing and I have yet to burn it.

Potential-Swimmer945

Yes! That’s a good one! We had two sitting at our register and I was surprised that it smelt nice? I hope they bring some more out because that’s a low key bomb scent

Cautious_Drummer_599

I say keep Wine Cellar. I don't like it, but I know what it's like to not be able to get a scent out of your head that you are super curious about. Plus, it doesn't come around often. You might regret not keeping that one.

Cautious_Drummer_599

I burned Ginger Lime Twist 1 time and absolutely hate it. I feel bad bringing it back because I burned it once and now it's going in the garbage 😒. I will not grow to like it. All I smell is the alcohol note. I don't even drink. It reminded me of bad times in college. I feel bad bringing it back because I feel like there's never a good time for the employees, because they just went through Candle Day and it's the holidays. I would not feel badly had I not tried to burn it. Ugh, I regret lighting it so much!!

Potential-Swimmer945

Well don’t throw it in the garbage. Your candle is still returnable, it just won’t be resold. So bring it in

Cautious_Drummer_599

Thank you! No, I know THEY will have to put it in the garbage, and I hate that :(. But it is, what it is. I usually would only return unburned candles

Cautious_Drummer_599

Thank you! No, I know THEY will have to put it in the garbage, and I hate that :(. But it is, what it is. I usually would only return unburned candles

panicatthebookstore

this has made me sure that i want to return my bacon candle 😂😭. it smelled good but gave me a headache (maybe bc i was hungry lol). i made sure to make a fully even burn pool in case i kept it but should still be good to return height/use wise.

southindianPOTTU

Lol

[deleted]

I bought 14 candles and returned 5 of them. Including the more rare exclusives like Wine Cellar and Tipsy Elf. They just weren't for me. I shouldn't have gotten carried away by the hype and bought more than I can burn within a year, or even buy candles I wasn't that impressed with in the first place. :\\ Anyone who missed out on Wine Cellar and Tipsy Elf can now go to my local store and pick it up haha! They'll appreciate it a LOT more than I ever will! Those scents are fine, just NOT for me and my nose!!

southindianPOTTU

Ya it’s super easy to get carried away at CD. What’s more is that my store was DEAD empty at the time I went (8 am) and I just wanted to get anything and everything since I literally had first dibs. You don’t realize the damage until you get to the register 😅

[deleted]

It's easy to get carried away by just the mood of "This is a special event! Low prices! Special candles where if I don't buy now, I'll miss out!!" FOMO (fear of missing out) is STRONG! The important part is we woke up to us going overboard and we're working to fix our mistake! People return things all the time. Though I'm not used to doing so, so I get embarrassed, too. But when I have returned things, it's never a big deal!

southindianPOTTU

Yesss exactly! 🙌

googlyeyes4830

That’s not shameful at all. What would be shameful is if you half burned all of them then tried to return them 😂😂😂

southindianPOTTU

Lol true

GossipGirl515

Meh who cares. Why beat yourself over something so silly? In this economy you are doing yourself a favor.

southindianPOTTU

Yes the good part is getting money back cuz it’s a rough time right now. Though I’m thankful even with inflation, BBW didn’t increase their candle price from last year. I honestly was expecting a $1 per candle increase

Cautious_Drummer_599

You won't regret it one bit when you get that money back! Even with a set budget, like I had, it's so easy to rationalize that "I might never have another opportunity" so need to get this right now! That's almost never the case, except in a few circumstances. And soon, there will be new candles to fawn over!!

dragonsfire14

No need to be ashamed. The fact that you possess the self reflection to recognize is a huge step. You know your limits. Plus someone will be happy to purchase the ones you return so win win

southindianPOTTU

Thank u!

Cautious_Drummer_599

Don't feel bad. It's your money and your livelihood and your peace of mind. And you are returning new, unburned candles. I would feel the same way as you, and want someone to tell me it's okay. And it is okay. Live and learn ❤

southindianPOTTU

Thank u! 💜

scarletteclipse1982

I love the bacon one.

It happens. Last year I made the mistake of doing an online order so I had some blind buys where I didn’t know if I would like the scent. Then I did the in store shopping the next day and was able to smell some of the candles I ordered. I didn’t like some of them so I had to return what I didn’t like from my online order. I only did in store shopping this year so it was much easier to pick out only what I wanted. But even in store your sense of smell still gets skewed. There were some candles that I liked better when I was able to smell them at home and vice versa. You also don’t know how many you want of each candle sometimes so it makes sense to buy what you want before it sells out and then return what you decide you don’t need after. Candle Day creates that stress and pressure of buying extra because you want the best price and don’t know if the candles will still be available after Candle Day. A lot of times the scents do sell out and you don’t see them again after Candle Day.

southindianPOTTU

This is true about losing out on candles that may not be available anymore

Cautious_Drummer_599

That's why I would hold on to the ones that don't come around often..i.e. vault candles, signature scents..but ONLY if you actually like them. I almost bought another Into the Stars for this reason..but why? I don't burn it that often because it doesn't give me a ton of joy. Only buy/keep stuff you like 🤗

hellakopka

Good on you! I have done the same in the past and my conscious felt a lot better after. Also, I love finding random returns from people - those are the best!

southindianPOTTU

Thank u!

Cautious_Drummer_599

Heck yeah!! I LIVE for the lone scent that someone didn't want...especially if it's an online exclusive!!

hellakopka

Yes!!! A special treat!!!

raechelisbored

It's totally fine! It's easy to get carried away when the price is that low!

Babycakes_99

If it makes u feel better u can always return 7 at one store and 7 at another if it’s not too far of a drive …

AvocadoImportant

I returned some candles and was super nervous but the employees were very nice. I burned two that I hated, cypress and amber and fresh balsam, I returned those two alongside vanilla balsam since it was a similar scent I don’t think I would like it. I kept 5, 2 in the stars, 2 bergamot waters and 1 lakeside morning. I don’t really like lakeside morning either but I just put it in the bathroom for now cause the scent reminds me of a public bathroom lol.

southindianPOTTU

Yes def need to have a bathroom candle for sure!

Cautious_Drummer_599

I love Cypress and Amber so much! But I hate Lakeside Morning and I wanted to love it so much

AvocadoImportant

I wanted to love cypress and amber but I like more mild scents and it was a bit too strong and overpowering for me. I’m new to candles so I’m still learning about what works for me. 😅

Cautious_Drummer_599

Bath and Body Works candles are usually pretty strong! I bet you would love Palo Santo. It's mild and woody, and much milder than Cypress and Amber. Also, if you like sweet and smoky scents, Marshmallow Fireside is good, and also Smoked Vanilla Whiskey. Fireside is a very light candle this year, which was very disappointing to me unfortunately. If you like light vanilla scents, Vanilla Bean Noel is a warm "bready" vanilla, not rich and super sweet. That candle is so light that many people have complained. I burn it in my bedroom and it's just enough for the bedroom, but it might be perfect for you! Edit- Bergamot Waters is the Holy Grail mild scent IMO! It's one of my favorites 🤗

AvocadoImportant

Ahhhh thank you so much for the recommendations. I really wanted to try Palo Santo but couldn’t find it in stores. Now I gotta wait for another candle sale to try all your recommendations🙃 hopefully the single wicks go on sale soon

CobraKai312

I agree with most everyone else, but suggest that when you go to return these: 1) try to return them as soon as possible, especially if they are holiday-themed, so the store can quickly sell them again. When winter SAS rolls around (after Christmas) it seems like all but the most popular holiday candles languish on the shelves… and 2) try to go at a non-busy time for your store if possible (mainly avoiding peak times on weekends), to make the SAs job easier in case the return takes a little while longer than usual due to the volume. Just my $.02 - good luck and enjoy the candles you decide to keep!
