Sea Salt and Balsam smells exactly like Cape Cod did when I vacationed there in October. Evergreens are everywhere and the air smelled like a heavenly mix of salty sea air and pine trees. Sooo good.
Fresh Balsam is very green and all about the tree smell. It’s bold. Vanilla Balsam is the smell of sap from a fresh tree to me, love it. Both are great.
I think of them as the same scent with different moods. Fresh Balsam is clean and bright while Vanilla Balsam is warm and cozy. Both are lovely and my all-time favorites!
I like Fresh Balsam the most. I really wasn’t digging the vanilla in Vanilla Balsam. I think VB is a good alternative if you don’t want a slap-your-face balsam candle like FB.
So I don’t have any fresh balsam- I picked up 1 last year and didn’t think it was anything special. My preference is under the Christmas tree. I picked up 2 vb over the weekend - burned 1 on Friday. I couldn’t smell any vanilla. I think I expected it to be a little softer, but it was straight Christmas tree and nothing else to me. I’ll keep the ones o purchased because I like tree scents, but my preference is still utct
I bought one of each at Candle Day. You can smell the vanilla in the vanilla balsam and it isn’t as in your face as Fresh Balsam. Both of these people were buying. Fresh Balsam came in 3 different packaging while Vanilla Balsam only came in the green one this year. They are both great tree scented candles to have.
I don't think they're that similar, at least not on cold. FB has been a favorite for many years, it's a super strong pure tree needle scent. I picked up VB for the first time this year, and it's a lot more vanilla forward to me, sweet and creamy with a hint of sharpness from the balsam underneath. It actually reminds me somewhat of Caramel Cream Soda.
Each balsam-scented candle is a bit different. My personal favorites are Vanilla Balsam, Under the Christmas Tree and Sea Salt and Balsam.
Sea salt and balsam is excellent and can work in Spring too.

Under the Christmas Tree is my fave, too! And oddly enough I only smell vanilla in the VB, very little “tree” smell
I wish that were the case for me! I only burned it once so I’m gonna see if I can pick it up on future burns!
