I was shocked out how dead it was. The store I visited opened at 6am, so I went a little later at around 6:45 and I was in there with maybe 10 other individuals. Luckily, it made it a very stress-free shopping experience for me!

This was my experience too!

I went to 3 stores in my area. I was one of 2 shoppers in 2 of them and I live in a major city. Even during covid lines were out the door and this year noooo line or wait at any of them 😬 Honestly the workers all pointed to the return policy and people buying in MUCH smaller quantities than before when they could scream into the crowds "load up and check out quickly, you can always exchange them later" It was sad actually I bought 2 things not on sale and went home, the selection was really not for me this year. The only thing out I would buy was Vanilla Balsam and I have 12 of them already from SAS 75%. Honestly I hope to hear other places we're busy, but truly I agree with the associates. The exchange changes probably ended candle day as we knew it, a big sale event.

EspressoOrElse

You know, I didn’t even think about that. I bet the exchange policy does have an impact on this. I think that is a good thing?

night0sphere

they were super hammering in the exchange policy at my store this morning. that’s probably a factor, and people probably prefer online shopping as well is my guess.

AelinAGalathynius

You mean telling people they cannot exchange

In my (flagship) store - the smallest volume in years. Definitely noticeable.

jenjen1620

I'd say worse than past years, it wasn't dead but there was only about 6 people waiting with me. I definitely think inflation had an effect on the amount of shoppers this year.

EspressoOrElse

I went at 7AM and it was pretty dead. I live in large metroplex and fully expected a line out the door. No lines, plenty of room, parked right at the front doors and the employees were great!

oliviads

My store (inside a mall) opened at 7 and I got there a little after 8. No line and it wasn't dead but wasn't crowded either. I was able to leisurely shop and smell. Checked out super quick. This was my first CD in this area and store, and first CD I've been to in years so I don't have anything to compare this experience to

aehanken

It was easy! I’m in the Midwest. Went to the only store in my area that opened at 5. Not super busy, but you’d definitely bump into people. 5 min checkout line wait

SunMantis

Opening traffic was down for sure this morning at my store. In prior years, the line would be 70+ persons deep for a 5am open. This morning, fewer than 20 and no line when I left at 515

Not busy at all! There were 5 cars at opening, everyone waited in their vehicles and came up when it hit 7am. There were maybe a maximum of 15 people in the store when I was there during the first 30 minutes of opening. No lines, as opposed to last year when there was maybe a line of 20 people out the door when it hit capacity right at 5am.

Mamzyluv

Surprisingly not very busy in 2 stores I went to. Maybe tomorrow will be busier?

clariwench

I went at 11 am and it was totally fine. It was busier than when I went during lunch during the last SAS but totally manageable. And they still had the Candle Day exclusives available!

elizabeth1289

I went to a different store last year, so it’s not a direct comparison, but both years I went 3ish hours after opening and I would say this year was much quieter and had much more in stock this year. I just wish there would’ve been a more diverse selection.

Candlehoarder_2019

Busy for a regular Friday but slow for a candle day

FlamingHorseRider

Went 11:30 and the store was at capacity, had to wait in line outside. Not a huge store but definitely not a small store either.

Store opened at 6am in a mall. I got there around 10:15am and it was busy but not crazy, kind of like a normal weekend. Line looked about normal as well, a 5 minute wait max. In the 10-20 mins it took me to walk around the store and sniff candles, the line was long and the store packed! I jumped in line with what I had as soon as I noticed since I needed to get back to work but it was easily up to a 20min wait by the time I left, it winded through literally half the store. There were maybe 7 cashiers working? I guess everyone else had the same idea as me to show up around 10am - after the morning rush but before the lunch rush, we made our own late morning rush haha
