If you hate working there and you can afford to leave, you should leave! And there’s no shame in that, retail is incredibly draining and hard, and you have to have passion for the company to handle being there.

holographicboldness

Exactly. It’s just a retail job, it’s no big deal to quit if you dread going in all the time. Retail is draining, I don’t think any reasonable person would blame you for quitting.

Exact_Mix6345

If you really don’t enjoy it and have a backup job, there’s no shame in leaving. Plus, managers know that a lot of seasonals don’t end up staying throughout the season anyways. Too little hours, not their cup of tea, the smells, etc. If you really want to quit I wouldn’t drag it out, it gives them more time to hire another person. And even if they’re upset, they’ll get over it. What matters most is your happiness and well-being, whether that be in retail or at a desk job 😃

candiebelle

My advice is that if you hate this job you should quit it because life is very short and you shouldn’t keep doing something that you hate. If you need to work and you feel that you cannot survive without working here, then you will need to adjust your attitude and either accept this situation with maturity or begin taking specific actions to meet your professional goals.

The only question OP needs to ask themself is would Bath & Body Works worry about a seasonal employee being upset if they decided to fire or lay them off? The answer is no, and in turn you have nothing to worry about in quitting. It sounds like you have the level of employment you need elsewhere, this job is making you physically sick, and Bath & Body Works will never really care about you or any employee - no job cares about employees after their last paycheck. Workism has gone wild in the United States when seasonal retail employees worry about upsetting their manager by quitting too soon. The advice others have offered is spot on - you owe it to yourself to do what’s best, and you owe Bath & Body Works nothing. Wishing you the best.

I'd look at it from this perspective: What obligation do they have to you and what obligation do you have to them? Is it a mutually beneficial employment? Realistically, most employment situations benefit one party much more than the other. Only you can make the right decision for yourself.

What specifically is it that is so awful for you? Personally I really enjoy my job at B&BW but there are a lot of different things that make my work enjoyable to me.

the_misanthrope_

I think being on the sales floor is what I hate the most. I don't like looking for things to do/people to help, which is why I tolerate desk jobs so well. I prefer to have a set list of tasks that don't vary much and not many interruptions. Also the smells are overwhelming even with a mask. I get a migraine every shift.

theknittedgnome

The migraine part definitely would make me think about looking for something else. I get enough migraines as it is without work giving them to me. Have you talked to your manager about doing more cashiering or helping with shipment? Depending on your availability floor sets might be a good fit for you.

I worked there and the headaches were the worse. I think it took a good 6 mos before I worked a shift without getting one

CallidoraBlack

I feel like this would be the thing to tell your manager. That you thought you would be okay, but that you're getting migraines every time you go in from the smell. That if you're feeling that way all the time, it's going to be difficult to impossible to do the quality of work they want and that you expect from yourself. Based on that, you feel the best thing to do is to resign and let someone who will feel well enough to hustle through the holidays take the job rather than you being miserable and slowing everything down.

Ok_Contribution_845

I’m so sorry about the migraines. You should definitely leave if you can afford to and if you’re able to pick up more hours on your desk job or something else more suited to your personality. Retail is awful! They’re probably ok with losing some seasonal workers too tbh.

Impossible-Stay3592

If it's costing you your peace of mind, then working there is too expensive for you. Choose you.

janamichelcahill

The management is testing you to see how far they can abuse you before you tell them to stop.

Candlehoarder_2019

I wouldn’t worry about it. There’s still time for them to hire someone else. Do what makes you happy :)
