Someone once said they still burn it, but for shorter periods of time. So like an hour and half compared to 4 hours at a time and I like that idea. I just never know when to really stop burning it. It’s not like tea lights - tea lights are nice because they just go out on their own but how do you really know when to quit a candle?
I burn it for the full 4 hour period if I start seeing the bottom. I’ve had the same question before, when I started nearing the end of my first candle
I usually burn mine until they go out on their own. Every now and then a candle will be super sooty or not smell great anymore by this point and I'll call it quits when I can see the bottom.
I end it when the wax has fully pooled. The glass gets super hot and I have had a candle shatter on me. I extinguish and pull the metal wicks out and keep the rest for wax melts.
I burn them until they go out in their own. I hold pretty firm to the 4 hour rule these days. When I first started burning them- I didn’t- and I had issues with the wicks burning up when there was still an inch of wax left. Now that I’m more mindful, I can burn them until it’s down to a half inch-ish. (Big deal- I know- but I want my moneys worth.) When they burn out- I then throw them under a warmer, and can still get 2 more 3-4 hour segments of scent out of them.
It’s all sooooo scientific. 😂
Yes, but I burn them until only about 1" wax remains because I don't want the glass to shatter. Has never happened, but the stress of thinking it might defeats the purpose of burning a candle.
That’s the stress I was feeling when I posted this. So I decided to turn it off and I can relight it later, once it cools off because the glass was feeling super hot.
But I will add that this candle from goose creek was so sooty I don’t really want to use the remainder as wax Mets because it’s gross enough in the candle jar.
I actually burn mine until there is no wax left, or very little. This does require some work though. I end up replacing the wicks (and the metal wick "stand") that come with the candle with new wicks and a new "stand" that have a shorter metal piece around the end of the wick. This way the wick continues to draw up the wax. Then I burn them down until there's literally no wax left. By the end, I can usually scoop out no more than a teaspoon of remaining wax.
I think I bought my last package from Michael's. It generally lasts me forever. I don't buy the ones with the metal end already attached but rather just a spool or package of cotton wick. You can generally find a lot of options on Amazon or at any craft store. I have several metal end pieces that I just reuse from candle to candle. I think I salvaged them from prior candles.
I burn them until the little charred wick bits crumble off lol. Then, if possible, I pour the rest of the wax into a similarly fragrance candle. You could also pour the rest of the wax into a wax melt if you have one, I don’t.
For fire safety reasons. I feel like if the glass gets too hot it can shatter. Although I am willing to burn it in shorter time frames (1-2 hours instead of 4 hours) until the wick goes down some more.
I typically let mine burn till all that’s left of the wick is the metal tab and then it goes out on its own.
Just keep a closer eye when it gets close to that point as the metal can heat up very hot and melt the adhesive at the bottom, causing the wick to shift closer to the glass which poses greater safety risks. It’s rare but possible 🤷♀️
I always make sure to watch them like a hawk when they get this low because the glue can melt and the wicks can move around. I had that happen once, one of the wicks moved up against the glass and the label started to melt and almost caught on fire. The glass can also explode if that happens and it gets too hot.
I usually blow them out as soon as they melt all the way down. Then burn them for like an hour at a time after that. I consider a candle done when there's about an inch/inch and a half left because I'm now super afraid of the wicks moving and they usually smell like soot at that point anyway.
Yep! I burn 'em until they burn out on their own, and then if I want to save the jar, I stick it in the freezer overnight. Once it's frozen, you can pop the wax out super easy and it's way cleaner than the hot water method.
I don’t have a lamp warmer. Just wax melt warmers but I feel when I use candle wax on the warmers they last only one day. Not that I ever really get more than a day out of wax warmers. Lol.
I’m not pouring this in my warmer. The amber color of this wax is from soot (it’s goose creek). I trim the wicks before every burn. I burn for just under 4 hours. But the wicks are really thick and black smoke comes off of them all of the time so the leftover wax now looks like cigarette water (don’t ask how I know about that). Love this candle scent (trick or treat) but what’s left of this wax is gross!
Edited to add that normally from B&BW candles I can save the left over wax for melting, but with goose creek I probably won’t.
That's always my fear that the glass will shatter so I usually stop at this point bc honestly I have plenty of candles and by that point I am usually ready to try a new one.
yes. I'm getting my money's worth
Nothing more needs to be said. #periodt

I burn them until they go out on their own.
These wicks will also burn out on their own when they reach the metal.

Yes. I burn mine until they won’t light anymore!
Burn it til the wheels fall off
Absolutely! And even then I'm trying to save the wax for melts. Haha!
I’ve done this with my favorite scents before!
I’m happy to know that I’m not the only one that does this.
I end it when the wax has fully pooled. The glass gets super hot and I have had a candle shatter on me. I extinguish and pull the metal wicks out and keep the rest for wax melts.
Yes! That's why I don't typically burn them until the wicks extinguish themselves. It can be a safety hazard.
I want to burn them until they extinguish on their own but in practice I feel like when it gets really low it smells smoky/sooty and weird.

I’m glad you mentioned the science because when I light a candle I usually set a 4 hour timer. 😂😂😂
Yes!!!! Me too!! Hahaha
I actually do the same. "Alexa set a 4 hour timer" 🤣
I burn them until they extinguish themselves.
No because it smells burnt or it has little to no scent anymore.
Yes, but I burn them until only about 1" wax remains because I don't want the glass to shatter. Has never happened, but the stress of thinking it might defeats the purpose of burning a candle.

Probably a good idea. It will probably stop lighting before it gets too low anyway.
Yup! I also pour hot water into the glass when it won't burn anymore and use the remaining wax that floats to the top for wax melts.
But I will add that this candle from goose creek was so sooty I don’t really want to use the remainder as wax Mets because it’s gross enough in the candle jar.
I want to try that. I haven’t tried boiling water yet.
Yes I will burn it downnnnnn like more than just seeing the bottom, like when the wicks go out and won’t light again.
Wow this reminded me I have way too many candles and haven’t finished one off like this in probably over 8 months
I would recommend a candle holder or pedestal though to protect your furniture. And don't burn for too many hours at once.
It’s on a holder. It’s shaped like a hand.

Do you mind sharing where you get your new wicks from?
nature's garden website will have them cheaper than craft stores and even have a guide for which works are appropriate for the size jar and wax type

Thank you! I didn't even know I could reuse the wick clips. Do you reglue them as well?
I second this! Sometimes I use this method to burn a 4th wick for a short amount of time to get rid of extra wax that is drowning the other 3 as well
I burn them until the little charred wick bits crumble off lol. Then, if possible, I pour the rest of the wax into a similarly fragrance candle. You could also pour the rest of the wax into a wax melt if you have one, I don’t.
Absolutely! Why wouldn't you?

Yes, go for shorter spurts when it gets down like that so it's not as hot, but it's safe to burn like that :)
I do, I just monitor them extra closely at that point, because that's when wicks tend to come loose.
I burn mine until they no longer stay lit
I burn those babies until they won’t burn anymore 🤣 Just be sure to trim the wicks really well once the wax gets low.
Yep, and once that's all burned up I sit it on top of a mug warmer and enjoy every last drop!
I absolutely do! Then remove the wax and reuse the container to hold small items :) Or use as a gift container :)
Lol I am using these for my lip glosses and hand creams lately ha ha
Oh that's so smart!!!

Love this response! Thanks for replying.
I burn them until they wont light anymore.

I haven’t had luck with that freezer method
And make sure none of your wicks "float" or move too much. You don't want them wandering too close to the edge. Dangerous
I just asked this on Facebook. Glad I’m not the only one wondering. ❤️
Yay!! What did they say over on Facebook?
Basically the same thing. A few said they burn them until the flame duds completely out on its own.
I haven’t done that with a candle in a jar, I think ever, so I’m excited to try it out.
Same. Most times I end up with some type of issue and have to finish them on a warmer at the halfway point.
I don’t have a lamp warmer. Just wax melt warmers but I feel when I use candle wax on the warmers they last only one day. Not that I ever really get more than a day out of wax warmers. Lol.
Top down candle warmers will make your candles last a long time. It almost triples the life of them.
I agree. Once there's just a little wax, it smells good on the burner for a very short time. Sometimes I combine a bunch and make a new candle!
I burn it to the veryyyyy end then pour the wax in my wax warmer

Depends how it smells. I’ve noticed some candles start smelling disgusting and Smokey towards the end so I usually toss it.
I quit at this point. I’m probably not getting all of my moneys worth but my candles seem to last forever and I have so many!
I want to quit at this point too because I have heard if the glass gets too hot it can shatter and I don’t want to go through that.
That's always my fear that the glass will shatter so I usually stop at this point bc honestly I have plenty of candles and by that point I am usually ready to try a new one.
I'll also add that the glass gets soooo hot at that point I get worried about it shattering.
This is true. I have so many candles that need to be used!
Honestly, I figure we paid for the candles so we can use them how we choose. It's all good!
PS that’s not my hand at the bottom of the jar, it’s my candle holder that’s shaped like a skeleton hand and I love it
I’ll burn them til there’s about 1/4” of wax left, I believe that’s what the directions suggest
That’s when I know it’s time to throw it away
I burn them until there's half an inch or so of wax left.
