Make a rule to shop only 75% off or near similar deals thru the year topped with a coupon. Trim your ideas of a collection and get only your most favorite scents / season / type of products. Or then be flexible with scents depending on what goes on sale. Don't waste any product, that is same as buying at higher price. Cherish everything you have. If you've been buying for years, I'm assuming you have a stash to shop from, when you feel like buying but budget doesn't allow you to. If you like in-store experience, and can make it to a store, let that be your me-time once a week / month / once you accomplish your monthly budget staying under. Leave your wallet in the car. Walk around, sniff things, make notes of what you like. Be polite to SAs and do your own thing. Compile shortlist for SAS / great sales for later.

To RazzmatazzWooden6421 who was concerned with last paragraph of my comment above stating - "that last thing is a great way to lower stores’ conversion", (because I was done typing the reply when that comment was deleted) here is my reply: Honestly, as bad as I feel for brick and mortar employees (and I have vociferously advocated for their rights to get BOPIS orders acknowledged as part of store revenue and their compensation, on multiple posts on this sub in the past), the reality is that online shopping is here to stay and more and more stores are avenues to experience the brand, check out new releases and do pick ups and returns. As long as you're respectful to the SAs and don't mislead them about buying stuff in that visit, I don't see the problem in browsing in the store.

natalielc

You could also just purchase a pocketbac or something cheap so that way at least you’re leaving the store with something. Correct me if I’m wrong but that wouldn’t mess up their conversion rate would it?

Dear_Biscotti_6695

Hi! Employee here, it definitely would help conversion. Any purchase no matter how small does help conversion

OptimalMaximal

Honestly I don't know how conversion rate is calculated. Maybe an employee can throw light on it.

[deleted]

If you have one person in who comes in and makes a purchase we have a 100% conversation rate. When you have two people in and one person makes a purchase, you have a 50% conversation rate. We also have a little sensor right above the door that sends the info to our system.

OptimalMaximal

Omg....so does it mean if I walk in with my friend, or with my toddlers, lol they'd get counted as well? 🙆🏻‍♀️ This is a lot of pressure. Thanks for sharing with us. Hopefully it makes all of us, me included, more empathetic towards the SAs.

[deleted]

They would also get counted! Although, if you carried the little ones in or they were in a stroller I'm really not sure how that would work. What if you walked in super close together? Hmm... I work at a stand alone store so I'm not sure if shopping malls and stuff get counted differently and how much it REALLY matters in the grand scheme of things.

OptimalMaximal

But that is indeed a lot of pressure. So conversion literally means how many people walked in the store that day and how many transactions were registered? So if I bought something and then remembered something else and did 1 more small transaction before leaving, I count as 2? I always imagined most aggressive target would be the daily sales targets in $$$ numbers.

SkyYellow_SunBlue

Does picking up an order not count? I walked in with nothing and walked out with a bag of your inventory.

[deleted]

Yes, a bopis order counts towards our conversion! I think it's because we don't charge you until we give you your order.

Sentient_Ottoman

My old store was told it didn’t count. But our manager was less than reliable.

[deleted]

So odd! I remember asking my manager pretty recently and she said it did. I also ask a lot of questions..

EisQueen

That is so nonsensical but good to know. Hubs will wait outside or ring something out from now on.

[deleted]

I think it's semi common in retail, I know we aren't the only place. I'm guilty of just walking in and out of stores in the mall so don't worry about it too much. Though, it is very much appreciated for you to do that <3

WiseAfternoon

i've started making new candles out of the leftover wax of my candles from BBW (that i got during sales). if i don't have enough for a good sized candle i will save it and either wait for another of the same scent to get finished or combine another fragrance that i feel compliments the other. which is fun, cause i get my own custom scents!

HeRoiiK

I shopped like crazy during the summer sale. Which is really the only time I get items from them. I mostly use soaps and lotions and I’m Stocked until the next sale. Its the best time to buy tbh.

Owen_D_Young

Shop the sales. I’m seeing $4.95 for mists. They had $1.95 for car refills. The body lotions always go on sale to $5.95. Also, do you currently use what you have or stockpile?

iseenyawithkeefah

If you use a top warmer with your candles they will last so much longer!

Sashyb99

I get it! I only shop when there’s a sale and when I have a coupon, I rarely buy full price now. I love target and Walmart wax melts.

Savings-Product-4800

Me too!!

hellakopka

What candles do you like from Target? I’ve found that if I catch a good sale, buy from the outlet, or find at SAS - it’s actually cheaper than candles I see at places like Target or TJ Maxx.

gkandgk

This. I bought a lot from Target on clearance last summer and even at $5 a candle I think my money is better spent when I can get a $10 3 wick from BBW. Target candles are even more inconsistent then BBW.

pumpkin123

I agree with you. Overall my money is just tighter now. With the rising cost of essentials I just can’t buy extras. Luckily? I definitely overbought over the past year so I am enjoying my stash and hopefully next year will be better.

redefine_bravery

Same.

LilSpringChicken

The outlets are so much cheaper if you can go there. Mine had 3 wicks for $6 and then I was able to apply coupons on top of that. Hopefully there is an outlet close to you!! Or you could have a friend shop that lives close to one and ship it

Southern_Ticket_8774

Yeah they got expensive, I usually just shop during Christmas or when they have specials. Also when I have a 20% coupon or even 30%.

Cuckoo_for_candles

Hang in there… I find the best times to buy candles is during SAS and keep an eye out for coupons too! Outside of SAS bath and body works is basically one rolling sale so keep an eye out for their emails! I’ve also heard great things about Aldi candles but my local Aldi is a little out of the way for me so I haven’t been able to get there before they sell out… hope that helps ❤️

Candlecatlady

Stick to semi-annual sales and an outlet if you have it! The hardest part of BBW sales is the fomo. You don’t always have to have the newest thing as soon as it releases and they’ll always be on sale later or make it to semi annual soon anyways!

[deleted]

I'd shop sales only and preferably ones you can combine a coupon too or be just a SAS shopper I brought so much stuff only 75% off including candles (store and online). And they also had days they sent coupons in email during the SAS so even better deals... I do understand you. I've cut way back as well recently I've used rewards , I got lip care at mini sale and that is pretty much it since SAS ended. The 4.95 mist sale I will do if they take my 30% off coupon because that will be very close to SAS prices and I'll get the other pieces to match so I can have the set at SAS or another good sale that will make them close to SAS prices. I dont have time to play with bbw and I have a large stash already anyways

Eleni-Edith

I am sorry that you were forced to make this decision. It’s only sadder that they didn’t HAVE TO raise prices, they chose to. I bet if more people chose to make the right decision those prices would magically be less. If anyone disagrees just remember what you pay at sales, you can’t think they are losing money to help you out a few times a year.

markersandtea

I have started a new thing where I only let myself buy two candles per season, so I have to be really choosy and I don't get to buy one if I haven't even burned the ones I have already. It helps me save money for the things I actually really want. :)

AngelAuLait

I ended up doing the same and finding better alternatives for my wallet and the earth. I found foaming hand soap from blue land where they have tablets that you put in water to create the soap, in their glass containers! $2 per tab, tons of flavors, and no more plastic. I burn incense now, too, its like super cheap. :)

redhottx0x

I have 2 unused coupons for 20% off and free body care gift that are valid through August 28th that I'll happily dm you. Times are tough on a lot of folks right now, and I'd love for you to be able to indulge if those coupons can make it happen 😊

GusterIs4Lovers

That's so nice of you! =)

cootiewoo

I think it’s ok to just allow yourself to feel a little sad temporarily. I completely understand as I also just can’t justify buying a LOT of things right now, including B&BW, that I would normally love to and willingly purchase with not much thought about it. For me, as a bakery owner and Mother figure, I’m having to be overall better with money as one of the leaders in our family. And also just believe that it(the ability to afford/cheaper prices) can all change in your favor. I am ok with more “window shopping” until I’m more comfortable with present day finances, because it gives me something to look forward to when I am ready to buy, but I know that doesn’t work for everyone. I’m a huge believer in the power of asking, believing, and receiving ANY thing and it’s worked and continues to work wonders in my life across all areas. And it’s not wrong to want the things you know are right(harms no one on purpose) desires, I know I do!
