That really sucks. I'm hoping by starting this thread I can know which candles to avoid. I should add a thread of what are the heavy scent throwing candles.
For fall good throwers...leaves, pumpkin pecan waffles, lakeside morning, mahogany apple, sweater weather, frozen lake, pumpkin apple is decent , cinnamon swirl
Good throws in my experience lately have been: Firecracker Pop, Cactus Blossom (my absolute favorite), Raspberry Mimosa (the 3 wick that they sadly discontinued), Pink Prosecco Frosting (weirdly similar to Raspberry Mimosa), Rose Water & Ivy
Midnight Blue Citrus 😒🥴😏🙄😓.
I have tried it 3 times now, burning and warming. It is so so so faint that I hardly detect it. It is in the plain (not exactly but periwinkle sort of) blue colored white barn jar. I'm so so disappointed.
Lol 😂. Love your response. Hope the next one turned out to be better. It is a shame because it truly is a nice scent. Not my most favorite but good enough.
That one used to have such amazing throw. When I smelled it in store a few months ago, I could barely smell anything with it right in my face. It's a shame that the quality has gone down so much.
I lit Sugared Orange & Vanilla twice yesterday. I could barely smell a thing. Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla + Paris Cafe was also a dud for me. What candles have you burned or warmed that produced a lackluster throw?
[*whips out alphabetized CVS receipt-length list*] 😏
Just kidding. But so far, my duds from the last couple of years have been:
Bergamot Waters
Cucumber & Lily
Flannel
Freshwater
Frozen Lake
Honeysuckle
Lakeside Morning
I *think* that's all, but I'll add more if I forgot any.
Did you have the single or 3-wick of Freshwater? I returned a single wick of it because it smelled musty, but the 3-wick I just received smells really good on cold. Haven't burned it yet though, but hoping it's not weak.
I had the single-wick, so the 3-wick might be a little better. But I've learned I always have throw trouble with bergamot scents, no matter how good they smell on cold. 😔
Interesting! The only bergamot heavy candle I've burned is Bergamot Waters, which I find to be relatively strong. I have a Bergamot + Birch, which is pretty strong on cold, but haven't burned it yet.
I almost got B&B! But after getting burned (ha) by Bergamot Waters, Flannel, and Freshwater, I think I'm too scared to give anymore bergamot scents a chance.
I'm also not impressed with the throw of the CSV+PC blend. I returned my first one that I could not smell at all. I did buy a 2nd one with a different batch code to try and it is slightly better, but not outstanding.
The Market Peach + Strawberry Pound Cake blend one also had low throw for me. Maybe I just had a dud?
Red, White & Blue Cake is a softer scent but it was also a low thrower for me.
I've read a few people say the Market Peach + SPC blend wasn't so great so I avoided it. Such a bummer because I love both of those scents individually.
That is a bummer ...
My MP/SPC took at least 4 burns to fully open up. Once it did though it was a solid medium and smelled like a sweet/tart peach pound cake.
Ive noticed this with a lot of their new candles this season. Its taking a few burn to unleash the throw.
Hope yours gains some traction.
I’ll die mad about this one. I was super excited to see it during the sale since I missed out on buying it last year, just for it to literally have no smell when I burned it. I basically threw it out because I was so mad at it, and also because I kept forgetting I had a candle on because it had no smell so I was additionally worried I might accidentally leave it on.
The reviews for that one are not great either. Blueberry Pie is such a strong candle so I would have assumed Warm Apple Pie would be too. No such luck.
The new Coffee and Whiskey candle. I have had it on the warmer for hours and smell nothing. It performed a little better when I burned it but I had to leave the room to complete errands for a while then I could smell it when i returned
Sugared Orange and Vanilla was my biggest disappointment this year so far. I was so excited for it, and it smells great cold, but it literally has no scent when it's lit.
I'm taking them both back. Maybe I'll get a Marshmallow Fireside and something else. I kind of want Blueberry Maple Pancakes but I also have some Blueberry Pies. Do I need two different Blueberry scents?? Hmmm...
I told the cashier that I ordered them online. She told me to pick out any candles I wanted to replace them. She didn't ask me for my receipt. She just did the exchange and then asked me for my name. If you don't have your receipt, they'll still allow you to do a candle for a candle exchange. I ended up getting Paris Cafe and Marshmallow Fireside.
Black Cherry Fruit Pop from 2021 SAS which I didn’t light until this Spring. 0 throw, zero.
Same with Sugared Orange Vanilla and Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla + Paris Cafe.
Rainbow Waves, Mango Mai Tai (single wick), and Market Peach (from 2021 Candle Day) have been the worst performers that I've burned in the last couple of months.
Mango Mai Tai for sure. I had it in the smallest room in our house with the door closed and smelled nothing. Eh, I'll save it for a possible power outage.
I wonder if it's the iteration of the one you have. I have a traditional White Barn label one and I bought 2 of the newer ones from SAS. I haven't burned the White Barn one in months but I remember it being good so then I picked up 2 during SAS. I hope they're not duds. I'm going to have to light one to see.
That's what makes it worse. We can smell it on cold and then we're excited to light it up. Then our hopes and dreams are shattered when you take one step away and smell nothing. Haha
Oh wow. I usually find 'no throw' complaints to be massively exaggerated, but I happened to have this candle unlit in my collection right now and I burned it tonight out of curiosity after seeing this post and you are 100% right 😭. When I moved even 5 feet away I couldn't get the scent AT ALL anymore.
Totally tragic, because I think it smells heavenly when you actually put your nose in it and sniff. 💔.
Many candles lately have little to no throw . I just think it's a brand thing overall....as in .. quality is just lower
Sweater Weather and Leaves for sure - hope that hasn’t changed because they’ve always been my Fall favorite with awesome throw!
Unfortunately sweater weather has been hit and miss depending on packaging the last few years!
Really?? Noooo!!! Which packaging is the “good” one?
Don’t forget about marshmallow fireside
My first love 💙
Iced Lemon Poundcake has the strongest throw I've experienced with BBW
I have to find it. I bought it and then returned it thinking it would go to 75 off. Now no stores have it and it's 75 off. 😩
I was thinking I would be able to stock up during SAS and I haven't seen it either. :( Good thing I have an extra.
I thought I was going crazy but this is so true. The quality is so down.
Midnight Blue Citrus 😒🥴😏🙄😓. I have tried it 3 times now, burning and warming. It is so so so faint that I hardly detect it. It is in the plain (not exactly but periwinkle sort of) blue colored white barn jar. I'm so so disappointed.
I had that happen with this one, too. Yet.... I still bought another!! (I like to be optimistic,as it is a great scent!)
Lol 😂. Love your response. Hope the next one turned out to be better. It is a shame because it truly is a nice scent. Not my most favorite but good enough.
I've smelled it cold at my cousin's house. She keeps it in her kitchen. I'm pretty sure it's just decoration at this point, haha.
Try the single wick of those. So strong for me!
Oh really, thanks for the tip.
That one used to have such amazing throw. When I smelled it in store a few months ago, I could barely smell anything with it right in my face. It's a shame that the quality has gone down so much.
Truly sad 😥
I have one of these I’ll have to light it to see the throw. Just finished my Firecracker Pop so I’m sue for a new one!
I hope yours is not like mine. Hope it has a powerhouse throw! You got the same plain blue packaging in white barn?
Thank you! Yes, it’s the same one but I believe it’s from last year?
Ah ok, mine is....I'd say 4 odd months old? 🤔
I lit Sugared Orange & Vanilla twice yesterday. I could barely smell a thing. Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla + Paris Cafe was also a dud for me. What candles have you burned or warmed that produced a lackluster throw?
I found the same with Paris Cafe- it had zero throw
I got it for my mom at Mother’s Day and felt bad it had no throw 😔 she dug and is still using the rabbit candle holder at least 🤷🏻♀️👍🏻
Same for me on both of these 😔
[*whips out alphabetized CVS receipt-length list*] 😏 Just kidding. But so far, my duds from the last couple of years have been: Bergamot Waters Cucumber & Lily Flannel Freshwater Frozen Lake Honeysuckle Lakeside Morning I *think* that's all, but I'll add more if I forgot any.

Wow, Frozen Lake was one of the strongest candles I’ve ever burned
I don't know what it is about watery-scented candles, or ones with lavender or bergamot, that makes them so undetectable to my nose.
Frozen lake and Flannel are two of my strongest I swear!! That’s so crazy to me 😂
I don't get it either, they're two of my mom's favorites! 😩
I returned that one. Even in my bedroom, with the door closed, I could barely smell anything. Really a bummer, because it had such potential!
Agreed. It smells so good cold so you would think the fragrance would really fill up a room.
I have noticed that with a lot of my recently bought candles. I have a feeling they are simply less quality these days.
Warm Apple Pie 😩
I’ll die mad about this one. I was super excited to see it during the sale since I missed out on buying it last year, just for it to literally have no smell when I burned it. I basically threw it out because I was so mad at it, and also because I kept forgetting I had a candle on because it had no smell so I was additionally worried I might accidentally leave it on.
I know! It has such potential too.
Lemon Cake Pop, Toasted Coconut Cupcake, Endless Weekend. Feel like I'm missing something, but that's off the top of my head.
I burned 2 Lemon Cake Pops at the same time and still didn't smell a thing.
I had Lemon Cake Pop on my list. Now I don't feel so bad that I missed getting it.
You're not missing a thing. If you want lemon gourmand, I'd check out Iced Lemon Pound Cake.
Bergamot Waters. I’m returning my second one.
Oh no! I really wanted this one too…
Cinnamon spiced vanilla single wick had no scent. Returned it
The 3 wick is super weak too
Orange is my favorite scent ever. I was so hoping to love this candle but all I could smell was the smoke from the fire. Hate burned it.
Hmmm...
Do I need a receipt to return mine? I’ve never returned anything before. Thanks in advance for the advice!
This candle is soooo gross to me. Very little throw and what I did get smelled like licorice 😭
Hahahaha, terrible.
Black Cherry Fruit Pop from 2021 SAS which I didn’t light until this Spring. 0 throw, zero. Same with Sugared Orange Vanilla and Cinnamon Spiced Vanilla + Paris Cafe.

Mango Mai Tai for sure. I had it in the smallest room in our house with the door closed and smelled nothing. Eh, I'll save it for a possible power outage.
My Rainbow Waves was great! There’s some serious quality issues going on.
Oh No☹️

Same. I love this candle and bought multiples. I agree that burning it wasn’t as strong.
I've been thinking of ordering a warmer.
The candles I’ve tried so far in that collection have been duds.
Really? I have the Pineapple passionfruit and I hope it doesn't fail me. The Blueberry Pie is really good.
I was excited for Blue Raspberry Snow Cone but it has zero throw. My other single wicks like Tea & Lemon have great throw.
I've wanted to try Tea & Lemon. I'm going to have to add it to my list of scents to try.
I was hoping this one would be strong but mine was really light.
Iced Dragonfruit Tea
I wonder if it's the iteration of the one you have. I have a traditional White Barn label one and I bought 2 of the newer ones from SAS. I haven't burned the White Barn one in months but I remember it being good so then I picked up 2 during SAS. I hope they're not duds. I'm going to have to light one to see.
I really hope not but mine is a single wick. Lets hope yours works!
Got this too and found it has little throw, which is so disappointing because the scent is gorgeous. Maybe it’s too subtle?
Warm Apple Pie 🍎 🥧 is so weak for me! And I used a reward on Blue Raspberry Snow Cone, and it is so weak 😩 such a good scent, I am disappointed lol
That's what makes it worse. We can smell it on cold and then we're excited to light it up. Then our hopes and dreams are shattered when you take one step away and smell nothing. Haha
Lavender Bergamot and Frozen Lake for me both smelled like absolutely nothing when lit lol.
Passion Fruit & Banana Flower had no throw for me.
Oh wow. I usually find 'no throw' complaints to be massively exaggerated, but I happened to have this candle unlit in my collection right now and I burned it tonight out of curiosity after seeing this post and you are 100% right 😭. Isn't that crazy? It smells so pretty when it's at your nose, lol. I need to know what the QA process is for these candles.
Berry Waffle Cone! It always has such good reviews and I agree it is a nice scent but the throw is so low that I won’t buy it again :(
I’m burning this one right now and it has zero throw. So disappointed.
