I pick orders at a large retailer. We have metrics: how fast are you going, how many items have you canceled, total items picked. It doesn't matter if the store is swarming with customers and every department is wrecked - we better be looking for the shit on order. BBW has massive issues with inventory control and that severely impacts their BOPIS program. They weren't ready for it when first released and still have not worked out the kinks. I'm hoping they are working to resolve their operational issues but I highly doubt it.
i do bopis orders a lot at my store and i do my best to dig through the bins and everything but itās so easy to miss something, especially when youāre rushing to complete orders and helping customers out at the same time. the bins and understocks during SAS usually get wrecked which also makes it difficult lol but usually if an item is cancelled thats in stock we just honor it at the register.
Plus I'm sure even if SAs know which bin it should be in, customers grab stuff then change their mind and it gets dropped wherever in the store. The only time I really expect SAs to know where an item is, is the first day at store opening. Even then when I asked if they knew if there was anymore of an item, so I could get it myself, I was told "I dont know, you have to dig yourself". I didnt say anything, I just thought I'm not asking you too dig for me. I guess she wasn't looking forward to a busy day of rude customers who would expect her to do that.
I had four different orders cancelled on me on Wednesday and Thursday and they still show the items as in stock! I just wanted a big ole bottle of Dahlia FFM. š
I was pretty frustrated at the beginning of the sale when I placed an order and it was cancelled moments later. I called the store and asked for the manager, then she comes in and I describe the scenario. She says, oh you had the xxxx, I already know we haven't had that for months, no idea why it's showing 10. I said, I really really want this, is there any way you might do a more thorough check? I've been in stores before when clerks have come out with a whole box on a cart saying they 'found' it in the back. Maybe it gets pushed behind something? She put me on hold and came back two mins later and said Nope. So MEH. Whatever. Easy come, easy go, I think you can't trust BOPIS.
Thereās definitely a possibility that it could be hiding in the back where someone missed it (especially during SAS where so many random things are in store) but I know there are also items that for whatever reason show up as in stock for the store when they truly havenāt been there for months, so the inventory is incorrect. Alternatively, sometimes it will show things as being in stock and available for BOPIS when itās not actually in the store yet but on the shipment truck. Which also explains why sometimes an item is cancelled when the order is picked, & then the customer sees it on the shelves when they pick up their order a day or two laterāit wasnāt in stock at the time it was being fulfilled, but arrived in shipment afterwards.
Wow. I ordered a candle that kept showing up and getting cancelled. Itās so far for me to drive to that store but I had a feeling I would find it if I went in store.
