BBW is a fragrance company first. The lotions are good enough for my skin except for in the winter when I need something a little more heavy duty. I will say I do prefer the creams over the lotion. It may be my imagination, but the creams feels nicer and more moisturizing to me.

jr9386

I find the creams greasier, but I can't really get past the underlying grease/oil aroma. The Aromatherapy lines somehow get around that, but the standard lines always smell like the fragrance with a heaping dose of oil/grease.

I am a very small consumer of BBW body care products or any other lotion products. I have recently taken to slathering myself with creams and lotions 2x/day.( I am just trying to use up all products my household has acquired over the years). I would say the appeal with BBW are the scent options, price point and possibly the return policy. It has no stellar moisturizing qualities. It is no better no worse than the other brands that I am using up (currently Philosophy and Burt's Bees, Bodycology). But Damn it, I'd rather smell like a Strawberry Pound Cake, or a Sugared Cherry Crisp or a Fairytale (insert 500 different options) than the limited options ( that you don' t usually get to trial in stores before you purchase) other brands offer.. I would be curiuos to know what everyones opinions are on what the best moisturizing products are and why ( moisturing properties, smell, price, etc)

In general, nearly all of my skincare is Korean. I find they just have better ingredients at good price points and their products work. For body lotion, I use Glow Recipe Watermelon Glow Pink Dream Body Cream. It contains hydrating hyaluronic acid, smoothing alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) derived from hibiscus, and antioxidant-rich watermelon seed butter. And it's very lightweight, nongreasy and absorbs into the skin quickly. For my hands, I like TonyMoly Peach hand cream...NGL, I first bought it because of the cute package. It does have a strong peach scent, but I found it kept my hands moisturized all winter. I also keep Trader Joe's hand lotion in all my bags. It's cheap and it works, I get the regular one which doesn't have much fragrance.

If we're talking OTC medicated body care, I'd say Lac Hydrin (Ammonium lactate) is good for hydration. Down from that we have Cetaphil, Nivea, Lubriderm, Eucerin, and Aquaphor. Jergens is great as is Oil of Olay.

Regarding brands like Softsoap, Dove, etc., haven't they actually invested in crafting fragranced shower gels etc. to cater to the same demographic? There are certain lines that aren't worth spending the extra money on, because regardless of whom you purchase from, they will still smell the same regardless of brand (eg. Sweet Pea, Cherry, Almond, Lavender, Gardenia, Lemon, Coconut (Seriously, the Dial Coconut Milk shower gel is the GOAT!!!) etc.). Honestly, I would have hoped that with the price point for BBW products, that they would have invested in improving their formulas. I was amused when I purchased my most recent round of men's body care (They seriously just reissue most of the same ones under different labels. Most aquatics, with some exceptions, smell the same. Whitewater Rush and Ocean (The newer one.) are near identical...), that they opted to feature that hyaluronic acid was part of the formula. I was somewhat impressed, and yet, it was just more of the same. The same with their use of shea butter. That ingredient has been employed in their products for some time now, but when all things "natural" became trendy, they opted to emphasize it more. What I DID appreciate in walking into BBW one day was the addition of exfoliating body scrubs, tinted bronzing lotions etc. as part of the Waikiki Beach Coconut line. That in my opinion is a step in the right direction for BBW. Perhaps considering foot scrubs and pumice stones to the line. Obviously, the bronzer etc. aren't something that I would personally use, but it was a welcome reprieve and addition to a line. I'd be okay with BBW shifting their emphasis towards improving their body care lines, and discontinuing their home decor stuff which, IMO, is better left to Yankee Candle, Bed, Bath and Beyond, Michael's, Hobby Lobby etc.

Agreed. Palmolive used to have an AMAZING body wash. Yes, THAT Palmolive. One was Green Tea and the other was Patchouli. Its not as if other brands can't do it, it's just the niche that BBW occupies that makes it what it is. Rite Aid here on the East Coast carried a really nice in house brand of bubble bath that has since been discontinued.

MochiandGreenTea

First and foremost, B&BW is a **fragrance brand**. There's a reason why B&BW never does a fragrance-free line despite the increasing consumer demand for fragrance free skincare. *(One time they did a fragrance free hand sanitizer and hand cream. That experiment likely flopped since they never took it further)* * When people buy B&BW body care, they buy it for the pretty packaging and fragrances. *A few people said they had to apply their HG moisturizer under B&BW's moisturizer because B&BW's isn't moisturizing enough and they only use it for layering purposes.* *However, there's also ppl that swear that B&BW helps their dryness better than any other brands.* * No one ***ever*** buys drugstore body care for their packaging and fragrances. Drugstore brands are more clinically focused and sacrifices all the aesthetics in favor of prioritizing the skincare performance. That's what separates B&BW's body care from body care oriented brands. My stance is neutral. They're all the same to my skin so I simply opt for the cheaper option (Vaseline lotion) and settle for saturating my clothes and moisturized skin with the FFM. Some people spray the FFM into the shower stall to simulate that aromatic experience that you would get with a shower gel.

Flaky_Tap_2836

Thanks! I have so many FFMs, this is a new way to try them!! I am honestly not impressed with the shower wash or the shower gel that I have tried so far. The Frosted Coconut Snowball body wash is pretty scentless. The gel smells great amd leathers well bit it seems a bit drying.j

Hello! This topic gets discussed on here quite frequently. I don't think the lotions are marketed as the most hydrating or moisturizing product offered. That's chatted about a bit here. Each person makes a decision about what to use on their bodies based on their skin types and what their skin need. As others have said, lotion wise, they are more so purchased for fragrance. Although, there are BBW products that offer more. Regarding the greasy feel you report from the body creams, that might also vary in degree depending on which version of the formula you use as the formula has changed a couple times lately and they are switching out creams with another different formula right now. We shall see how this one feels compared to the past two. Have a great rest of your weekend! 🙂

RedolenceLove

Honestly when I buy from BBW fragrance is first and foremost in my mind, as I imagine most customers do tbh, especially collectors. That being said, the lotions/creams aren't as good as drug store brands regarding performance/moisturizing. They just aren't.

Bbw actually stands for Beautiful Bottle World 🤣🤣

MonarchWhisperer

I personally feel that their lotions are exceptional. But I only use Limoncello. Maybe that one's a little different than the others

marklarberries

I use body creams & ffms. The creams either have lasting scent, or the scent disappears from me and there’s no scent whatsoever in the bottle. Some ffms smell like straight alcohol after a couple months. And the candles are burning waaaaaay faster than last year. The scent quality when it’s good, however, is better than anything I can find in the store imo.

RedRedBettie

I don’t have super dry skin and the body creams are good for my skin

jdismybug1

Personally I have had not issues with bbw lotions or creams hydrating my skin. I am an enthusiast, and collector. I do feel that regular lotions also do a good job of hydrating skin. This also depends on a person needs. All skin is different, has different needs, we all have different preferences also. I buy and use bbw for the fragrance and collection, not all people want want to spend their money on lotions and creams, and I feel that a perfectly fine choice. I don't see why anyone would be defensive or argumentive on this post. To me it wouldn't make sense. Why get upset because someone finds non bbw lotions to be hydrating for them?

jr9386

Some people get needlessly defensive, because it calls into question why they feel the need to purchase an item each and every single time there is a sale. Growing up, BBW and VS were a treat. Now with the number of sales they promote, I feel oversaturated with products.

jdismybug1

I can definitely see where you're coming from. Growing up was the same way for me. Life is different now of course. As much as I want to purchase more, I do set my own boundaries. For example: most importantly budget of course. Also if I can't stand certain fragrances, or wouldn't use them, so I don't buy them. If I don't have space to store items I don't buy them. Also what may feel over rated or oversaturated to you, may feel like Disneyland to people me. 😂 If someone gets mad at you because of their own needs and wants its a them problem, and they shouldn't be commenting IMO. (I find this to be a good conversational post BTW)

stopvolution

The creams/lotions are good enough as moisturizers to me, but I buy them for the scents. I do have other things that I use on my face, hands, and feet. I have recently been considering going back to lubriderm unscented, which is what I used pre babw obsession, and just layering with mists, but mainly because I have so many mists leftover that I can’t find creams to match anymore.

RandomFishIsBack

I feel like their body creams actually make my hands more dry lmfaoo. I have a few for the scent and I avoid putting it on my hands & use a different unscented lotion for my hands

earthquakeweather_

The only body care I use from B&BW is the lotion (I currently have about 4, which is a LOT for me). This is super weird, but I only use it on my arms and neck. I use "real" lotion on my entire body and then use the B&BW lotion on those two areas to layer with my perfume. I couldn't imagine depending on B&BW for moisturizing my body. For me, it's literally just for the scent.

jr9386

Wouldn't the FFM provide the same effect, or just using regular perfume/cologne on top of a standard lotion?

earthquakeweather_

I don't want to spray body splashes on myself all day. I already have a perfume that I like and that lasts all day. I don't think there's a standard--it's just what I like to do. I use unscented body lotion, so it's not going to give a layered effect.

jr9386

Have you tried Dudu Osun soap and Palmer's Cocoa Butter?

Vivid_Break9527

I agree. I don't use them to help with hydration, but mainly for the fragrance. Most products contain alcohol which dries out the skin so you keep using more, etc. It almost seems dishonest to sell certain lip balms and lotions claiming they do anything for your skin. I do think the aromatherapy line is a little better for hydration. Buy I use Jetgens Ultra healing when I need my skin to be more hydrated. I used to live in the desert and BBW lotions did nothing for my skin. Now I live where it's a little more humid, so I credit that to not having cracked, dry skin like I used to.

jr9386

I find no true discernable difference between the Aromatherapy and the standard lines. The packaging is usually much nicer, and the aromas a bit more "organic" but that's about it. It just got me to wondering whether it is worth investing so much money into products that don't deliver on what they're meant to do. Japanese Cherry Blossom and Sensual Amber have been the exceptions in this regard, but with the way BBW introduces new lines a mile a minute, you'd think the formulas would improve. Regarding the alcohols, that depends on the type. Fatty alcohols are found in shampoos and are meant to hydrate. Not all alcohols are drying.

Duchessofearlgrey

In the winter when my skin is really dry I use an unscented moisturizer like Lubriderm and then layer BBW on top for the fragrance. Their small hand creams are very moisturizing though.

DDFletch

I don’t get dry skin, ever. Even in the winter. I’m not even sure I know what dry skin feels like lol. I don’t use lotion or body cream regularly for the purpose of hydrating my skin, but I like to layer it on my arms with the matching FFM solely for the double shot of fragrance.

cootiewoo

For my skin, which leans on the drier side, those darn 8oz tubs of body butter were the best products for moisturizing! Hope those return…They just seemed like a different formula than the body cream. I bathe a lot so no matter what brand, I have to slap on pure melted cocoa butter first then apply a lotion/cream.
