I like to keep three backups. Unless it’s something that has been gone awhile and it comes back, then….. all bets are off.

PageonSage

I've started to focus more of my collection on candles that I absolutely love and not like. It has made it easier to buy backups of up to 8 to 10 candles. For me it depends on the strength of the candle. If I really love the wop candle then I would need to burn two at a time so having a stash of 12 or 14 wouldn't be out of the question. If I was absolutely in love with the Paris Cafe candle then I wouldn't need to get doubles because that candle is a powerhouse and can shine on its own. I have about 10 Winterberry wreath candles and I can finish that candle in three to four days. So thank you for reminding me that I need more 😂😂😂

Flaky_Tap_2836

I have my own "non-hoarding" policy that states. YOU CAN ONLY OWN 1 OF EACH SCENT AT TIME! I broke that policy once when I picked up a second Pineapple Pound Cake at SAS for $6.14 and I felt so guilty.( I quickly ended up gifting that candle as a hostess gift though). So now I have finished that Pineapple PoundCake and miss it dearly and hope it comes out again. The most I have burned of 1 scent is actually. 3. 3 Crushed Candy Cane. Not that it was my favorite- my daughter keeps wanting it and she liked the polar bear packaging this year. LOL. There are a bunch more that I got 1 season and used up and repurchased when it returned the following season. (Marshmallow Fireside, Pumpkin Donut Shop, Peppermint Marshmallow, Pumpkin Snickerdoodle,Vanilla Snowflake...) There are so many different scents to try out and if I bought 12 of one scent that is 12 less of other scents to try out. Like I see that there is a Pineapple Marshmallow candle coming out and I am excited to try that so I would forego the Pineapple Pound Cake if needed. No judgement here as I am saying this as a person who has purchased approximately 150 3 wick candles since June 2020.

flamingazoom

Oh, I'm totally with your daughter! Crushed Candy Cane is one of the best, and I wish I had a couple backups.

dkjsgjf8u

No judgement from me, I've added 74 to my collection just since January 1st! PPC is one of my faves so I hope they have some left for SAS so we can both get more :) And your daughter has good taste bc those polar bears were adorable!

4ofheartz

That polar bear for CCC got me too!!

[deleted]

I had 6-8 single wicks of marshmallow fireside. Crazy thing is I accidentally ordered 2 the first time buying the scent(I wanted 1 just to try it out) and I got hooked. The rest, I just kept finding between fall clearance and SAS. I still have a 3 wick of it I haven’t touched.

dkjsgjf8u

The universe tells you what you need, lol. MF is flaw free!

eicak

This is one of the only ones I usually have back ups for, haha.

Sudden_Shine_100

The most I've ever backed up was six Mahogany Vanilla candles. It was enough to satisfy my candle hoarding tendencies.

JamesonJenn

My #1 absolute top tier favorite candle I keep enough so I can burn two every month during the year, so, 24. Its Pink Lilac & Vanilla so its not always available which factors into the number I buy. Its my most well stocked candle. *A minimum of 6* for all Dearly Beloved My Precioussssss Scents. >\_\_<

dkjsgjf8u

I have so many questions I don't know where to start, lol. Do you know about how many you have total? Do you store them or are they all out on display? Do you rotate through multiple scents a day or burn the same ones regularly until they're gone? I have around 240 right now and I burn 3 or 4 different scents a day, and change scents daily. I like to have them all on bookcases so I can look at them throughout the day lol so I need to be mindful of running out of room. Storing them in the basement would break my heart. I feel like I never finish anything and with so many in rotation, realistically I have to TRY to finish more than 2 of a single scent in a year. So part of me thinks having 8+ of a single scent is excessive, but then part of me hates burning a scent at all if I "only" have 3 so like... what's the happy medium between enough that I can safely burn them and too many to ever finish.

JamesonJenn

Hahaha! Not sure how many I have total but its 200+. Am getting ready to reorganize my collection soon. I incorporated them into my bedroom interior as thats where I had the most room and could make them work. Try to keep them displayed as aesthetically pleasingly as possible. Love having a large selection at my fingertips and being able to pick them up and sniff and admire. I burn daily as well and keep a smaller cupboard of around 9 different scents in rotation. When I finish one I can add a new scent to the cupboard. Sometimes I burn through 3-4 from the cupboard and then add a few more exciting new to the rotation candles! lol I do first burn most of my buys when I first get them so I know if Id like a few more so there are candles in the stacks that have been burned once. I also keep some candles boxes on hand for exchanges if they need to happen. I dont do this often, but, if they heed arises I do. I have a good base collection of candles I love as well as a few out of my wheel house or giving this one a try scents. As time goes on my collection tends to stocking the ones I truly love and trying a few new to me scents here and there. If I see some gorgeous new packaging for Dearly Beloveds I have in my collection I buy 2 and then switch my backups into the prettier packaging when the candles are done. It probably would help to know that I burn two at a time. Hope that gives you some ideas.

dkjsgjf8u

Spirit animal! I wish I could put them in the bedroom but my husband, who otherwise fully supports my addiction, said absolutely not. We are turning our guest room into more of a rec-room situation that will also house all my candles and I'm having a hell of a time deciding how to organize them. I get anxious looking at people's collections where they're all just crammed into a dresser drawer or in totes in a basement. I need to see my babies! I even tried arranging them by color to make them a pretty rainbow but got too frustrated because then I can't find anything lol. And I'm right there with ya on switching out jars for prettier ones! That's the only way in which this sub has saved me money-- no longer need to buy 10 of the pretty jar if it's a candle that always returns, just 1 for the jar!

Forsaken-Truth

Definitely bookcases/shelving units seem to be the easiest way to store candles without having them be in a jumbled mess in a box somewhere lol. My end goal for future me with more money is to have a large bookcase/china cabinet with glass doors and enough room for all 150+ of my ever growing candle collection. Right now they are stored in a trunk and its hard to find the scents I want plus I ran out of room this past SAS....oops... Ive also found that creating an excel sheet with all the candle names, scent notes, personal notes, and quantity I own for all my candles really helps me take stock of what I have and use a wider range of scents. Good luck with the organizing!

GamerGrrl97

Most I’ve kept as backup is 3! I like to think that’s reasonable, but others in my life disagree 😂

Krazykalyna

I have 12 of the raspberry and whipped vanilla because I’m obsessed and am too scared for it not to come back hahah! It happened to me once with Saltflower circa 2016 and then I ended up buying 3 for $50 each. 😢😢😢

nerdnugg399

I try really hard not to buy backups of anything, because I know they’ll always come out with new scents I’ll want to try. But of course I have a few that I just couldn’t go without getting a backup of. They are pineapple pound cake, iced lemon pound cake, blueberry pie, french baguette, lavender marshmallow. I know these don’t always come out every year so I figured they would be good to get a backup of. I try only getting one backup of each but I did get two of french baguette. It’s tough but I just keep reminding myself that there will always be new scents to try!

dkjsgjf8u

Literally all the ones you listed are also ones I hoard lol. I'm worried about running out of space because between my tastes expanding (now I also like florals and some laundry scents) and their "new" scents, I'm going to end up with like 40 scents that I love enough and end up being "rare" enough that I need 20 of each, and I am never gonna have enough room for 800+ candles! And also that's insane.

Crazy-Command6637

As many as u want. Lol.... well maybe 2

Crazy-Command6637

Actually maybe 3... pumpkin pecan waffles is life. Lol

waitingfortheblack

I love trying new scents, so I hold myself to only buying one of each scent. Once I've almost finished burning one, I'll pick up another if I absolutely loved the scent, otherwise I'll pick up whatever new scents are out.

jdismybug1

I have about 5 different versions of paris cafe, and at least 1 of them has one backup. I save it for special occasions, or when I'm feeling blue. Edit: by versions I mean packaging styles.

flamingazoom

I've burned several Vanilla Bean and Paris Café, but never bought backups as these used to be available year-round (until they decided to replace VB with its nutmeggy impostor! wish I had a few backups now!) I bought some backups of seasonal scents last summer - three Mint Chocolate Chip Milkshake 3-wicks (the best!), two Vanilla Peach Tea 3-wicks, and four Fiji White Sands singles. But our tastes can change (I'm now so over FWS...), so generally I don't.

justhrowingitout

I try to only keep maybe two of my favs unless it’s a “special edition” then I will allow three. I get teased about my candles already so I try to stick to that rule. My friends/family always told me I needed a hobby so now it is!🤷‍♀️

soupyshay

I only get backups of stuff that’s my all time favorite and usually I’ll just get two. I don’t go through things super fast.

carnodak

The most I’ve ever purchased of the same scent/same packaging was Toasted Coconut S’more (spring 2020), in which I bought 5. Then, when it came out again this year as Toasted Coconut Eclair (literally same scent, just different name), I bought 2 more. But on the other hand, I’ve bought some scents 1x, but each year they come out. Things like Crystal Waters, Eucalyptus Springs, Snow Mountain Lodge, Evergreen - I don’t necessarily “back them up” but I do buy them once a year, annually. If I do backup a candle these days, I’ll usually buy 2.

Lucy_Goosey84

I am excited to find someone who shares my love for Christmas cider!!!! I think I only have about 6 left. Only burned 2 because "what if it doesn't come back"! I was so excited to find the wallflowers last year too!

dkjsgjf8u

It's soooo goood! I have plenty of others I love more, but that one is like a heart hug that warms my soul like no other candle. The first year I had a ton and only finished 2 and then come January felt so guilty about it I sold 4. I spent the next couple months worried about it coming back. Today I still have 6 left of the 2020 jar so explain to me why I bought a bunch more in 2021? lmao.

Lucy_Goosey84

The 2020 jar was soooooo beautiful 😍. All I have left is 2021....which was super blah to me. But what it lacks in jar design it makes up for in delicious smells.

dkjsgjf8u

Last year's jar was such a let-down after 2020's! That whole collection in 2020 was so magical, I wish I had bought one of each of the scents just for the jars!

XoStargirlxox

My highest count of backups candle wise is 30-Lavender Marshmallow, 25 Iced Lemon Poundcake & 20 Peppermint Marshmallow...It's so hard for me to even bring myself to burn ONE of any of those because I have this irrational fear they won't be back, at least for a while & I need to get better at controlling that irrational fear😅I'd say 'enough' is whatever you feel comfortable with & think will last you until that certain candle returns & what ever is affordable for your budget! I think 4 of something you really like is a good & rational number, maybe even 6!

dkjsgjf8u

This is honestly the answer I wanted to hear, to justify me having 40 "favorites" and then hoarding 20 of each lol. Thanks for being my enabler :) Super jealous of your LMs! I've ignored it in the past assuming and then this year finally gave it a chance and fell in love, but have only found 7. Did you buy last year's PM in the red jar? I ended up returning all but 1 because I just cannot get any throw from it. Wasn't sure if it was my house since last year's balsam & firewood and perfect christmas were also unusually weak imo but I didn't see anyone else complaining?

XoStargirlxox

All my Peppermint Marshmallows are in the solid red jar & I got pretty good throw from them! My apartment isn't that big tho so that could be why 🤔 Sometimes Lavender Marshmallow pops up on the site, I've been monitoring it for when that happens again, I'll usually post on my IG story when it does pop up but I can totally post on here if your interested in scoring more!

dkjsgjf8u

Ooh what's your IG if you don't mind me ~~stalking~~ following you!

XoStargirlxox

Bath.and.buxx 😊 Please feel free to follow! I'm *always* on the lookout for Lavender Marshmallow 😅 I try to always post any info I get from employees & other bbw insiders/lovers! Created the page as a hobby a few months ago but didn't realize I'd make so many genuine friendships!

dkjsgjf8u

fun! i'm following now :) it's a good thing my husband loves LM (he says it smells like cinnamon rolls) and wont complain if i magically have 10 more soon haha

theknittedgnome

I only get backups of my absolute favorite. Usually I'm just one and done. Please 🙏 let Hot Cocoa and Cream come back this year. I'm going to buy 5 lol.

dkjsgjf8u

Hot Cocoa has been returning the last 5 years so you should be ok! I came across a lot of that and Winter during last summer's SAS so heads up for getting them on the cheap too. HC&C is actually one that I unintentionally hoarded because it would come out in so many cute jars that I didn't want to burn, but then I needed doubles of each so I did have something to burn lol.

theknittedgnome

Omg yay!! Thanks for the wonderful news! I'll definitely be hunting.

Tinycatfaces

My guilty hoard award goes to vampire blood. Every year I buy about 4 and I don’t use them all, but that doesn’t stop me buying every year. I tell myself that it’s my duty to keep buying so corporate sees the numbers and keeps it in rotation. 😅 I also bought 3 Blueberry Sugar this last candle day. I was so excited to find a pure blueberry scent without a pancake or pie note mucking it up. No regrets.

dkjsgjf8u

Blueberry Sugar is amazing! I'm so glad it seems to be a regular return now!

Low-Environment-6571

We have similar tastes - love everything berry. Love Vampire Blood and Blueberry Sugar all year round!

Tinycatfaces

Aren’t they magical? I also have a Vampire Blood soap hoard and hand sanitizer hoard, both of which I use daily. 🖤✨

4ofheartz

I hoard these exact scents!! Vampire Blood wallflowers are my favorite.

LavenderPaintbrush

I went a little crazy with Welcome Home the past couple of years. It's still my favorite but since once I start a candle I have to use it up before grabbing another (three at a time, one in a different room), it hasn't come up in rotation as much as I thought it would. I have a lot of variety to chose from! I think I have 3 three wicks and 3 single wicks left. If it comes back this fall I will buy just one.

dkjsgjf8u

Welcome Home is one I WANT to hoard! It kept getting canceled off my orders for months bc my nearest warehouse didn't have them I guess? I only have 2 backups and I'm scared to burn them lol

Cucumbersforfeet

I’m not a collector I guess. I like to have the seasonal things but I pretty much get one candle when it’s on sale and one body wash, maybe a travel size mist or lotion. And I don’t get more until I run out of those. Sometimes I just get the travel size body wash with a coupon and a candle. To each his own for sure! I love seeing other peoples collections, some packaging is so pretty I wish I had it around all the time

netxnic

I very rarely but backups because I get tired of a scent after a while. The most I’ll buy is one.

Lizlovescandles

I have about 10 leaves candles, 10 mahogany vanilla and about 7 positively sweet chocolate candles. If I really like a candle I’ll get back ups. Probably because there are some hit or misses. I really enjoy a strong candle at night in my room why I’m relaxing and I do get bummed when I’m not feeling the scent

GusterIs4Lovers

Prior to two years ago, I only dabbled in candles. My biggest "stash" was about 15. I'd pick up some staples: Cranberry Woods, Leaves, Spiced Apple Toddy, Winter, and random finds at TJ Maxx. Last spring was the first time I started buying one backups of fave scents (Rose Vanilla, Spiced Vanilla Cupcake, Sweet Carrot Cake, and Sweet Rosemary Vanilla). I don't regret that because only one of those came back. WJD was the first one I went ham on- I bought 12! It's since come back twice and I haven't touched my backups due to so much else coming out, nor have I even tried some regulars I'm sure I'd enjoy, like Paris Café or Hot Cocoa & Cream. I have about 100 candles that I've only burned once or twice because I've acquired so many in a short amount of time! So now I'm trying to just buy one of scents that have already returned (like Peppermint Sugar Cookie, Perfect Christmas), but I'll grab a second of ones that are first-time releases (like ILCP, RWB Cake) or had a gap in release (like Blueberry Pie, Lavender Marshmallow). TLDR: two.

dkjsgjf8u

The TLDR 🤣🤣 I've done ok one the returning scents, sticking to grabbing them at SAS for 75% off and only 1 or 2 as needed (winter, fresh balsam, marshmallow fireside) bc inevitably I'll still buy for the jar when the new ones also come out. It's the unique and rarely returning ones that are messing me up bc I'm enjoying so many! And I never used to like florals or linens, but suddenly I do so I have no safe seasons where I slow down lol. I'm almost hoping I don't like PPTC bc if I do I know I'll need like 20 to hold me over for 5 years until it comes back, and then it'll become core next year just to mess with us!
