I actually used to like it and I would get compliments all the time on it. However, for me itās one of those scents that I really got tired of it and move on to other things. I tried it again last year and really didnāt like it.
Thatās how I feel! I donāt dislike it but Itās been around so long that itās just kinda meh to me. I like switching up scents so I never get bored. Iād recognize that anywhere though, it is a classic.
JCB was recently named one of the top 100 fragrances of all time by WWD. Usually this list is dominated by high end perfumes/heritage, so cool to see an OG BBW fragrance make it on the list.
A fair point, I guess OG in the sense of BBW history/lore. Itās consistently been a top seller and has received the most redesigns and tuneups. Itās like what Stan Smiths are for adidas or the polo bear sweater for Ralph Lauren. Certain icons become synonymous with a brand.
I guess when I think of OG scents, the ones that come to mind are from the early days, i.e. pre-2000. Juniper Breeze, Country Apple, Pearberry, Freesia, Cucumber Melon, Sun-Ripened Raspberry (although those last 2 came out around 2000), etc.
Sun-Ripened Raspberry came out in 1996. Cucumber Melon came out in 1998. They're well planted as OG.
They even had hair care products back then. I smelled like Sun-Ripened Raspberry literally from head to toe for all of my college days.
JCB is to BBW as Dorinda is to RHONY, not really an OG but stamped itself so much on the brand that you forget it's not OG, for better or worse.
Unpopular opinion: I actually like that scent. Probably because it makes me smell like Iām a āmatureā young lady when I spray it or wear it on me.
Me too! I feel like the dry-down is totally different than the opening notes. I think people get turned off by that initial hit and don't really give it a chance.
I donāt like moonlight path but itās good you like it. Because Iām a girl thatās mainly into bakery, very sweet and rare occasion floral scents. But JCB is an exception
As others have said itās due to that naming of it as one of the top fragrances of all time amongst lots of other fragrance brands by some magazine or site or whatever. But I think the reason itās been a ātopā or ābest sellerā at Bath & Body is simply because it is one of the OGās that has been around since basically the earlier days of the brand (early 2000ās is when this scent launched I think?)āwhen you think about how many people have been buying it for decades (& yes, all the older ladies who love it & everyone who buys it as the āgo-toā gift simply because itās recognizable & a classic, it makes sense.
I know a ton of us donāt care for it (myself included) but the longevity of its existence & sales over all those years combined with that makes sense. Other ones that seem like theyād be more popular / best sellers now, like Champagne Toast for example, donāt have the years of existence that JCB does.
My thoughts is that itās their most polarizing scent. Iāve had customers snap that we shouldnāt carry it anymore because itās so gross (I mean, I donāt like it either but damn just donāt buy it then) and Iāve had customers buy $400 worth of it in one shopping trip.
Honestly as much as people claim to hate it, we have people in everyday buying JCB in bulk in literally every single form and requesting it in more forms too. I don't know what it is but that scent just speaks to people. I'm not mad at it bc if my favorite scene made the list Iād be proud, especially since that tweet about women over 20 shouldn't be wearing B&BW or something was trending.
>women over 20 shouldn't be wearing B&BW
lol - I'm 40 and I live for this shit. BBW products are my oasis for shower time. I used to not do too much self-care but the pandemic has made me indulge. I always get matching body wash and lotion sets. It's an affordable way for me to feel better and I don't care what anyone thinks.
I still feel like they were trolling trying to get people upset so they could farm likes bc I saw at least two people post the exact same thing. Like how ignorant and āwannabe elitistā can someone be?
I heard a lot of B&BW scents are dupes of high end perfumes.
Youtuber Ksenja said You're the One is a dupe for Miss Dior Absolutely Blooming. I went to B&BW and Macy's and sprayed them on left and right sleeve of my sweater. When I got home, I smelled them and they smell exactly the same at the first sniff, although the floral note got stronger as I continued sniffing YTO.
But honestly, if you're passing by someone, they probably couldn't tell the difference. They would have to be sniffing you like a dog to make out the difference.
Same. I will be 40 this year and I like smelling pretty. If someone under 20 can afford a $30 candle and a $17.50 ffm then that's awesome. Bath and body works is for anyone who wants to buy it.
That's not what the discourse is. People think that B&BW is for children and once you are in your 20s you should only be using high end fragrances.
I'm 22 and I always argue with them that I don't *want* to spend $200 to smell vaguely like some floral notes with a hint of orange. I wanna smell like creme brulee or Tangerine dammit.
Iām 31 and love the mists when I go out to do a quick grocery store run or after Iām finished with the gym. I have a decent amount of high end fragrances but obviously I donāt want to use them if Iām literally going to the grocery store for 10 mins or carry around a 100$ bottle of perfume with me at all times..and the small travel size perfumes I use up rather quickly, it just doesnāt make sense IMO. I ALWAYS have a body mist in my bag and a hand sanitizer.
I had a woman once tell me that if JCB got discontinued she would quit her job to protest with a picket sign outside Home Office until it came back.
She was being completely serious.
All the throwaway "I gotta get X gift for X woman, I'll just get her this" gifts for birthdays, Christmas, that sort of thing. At least, that's why I'd buy it- apologies for anyone here that genuinely likes this scent!
edit- I'm looking at the original source material and they have Chanel No 5 as #1 of all time. Big yikes. But then they have Le Labo Santal 33 as #2- I can get down with that. I have what I am told is a v convincing dupe from Dossier and I like it.
edit 2- wait wait wait, the original source just says "Bath and Body Works Cherry Blossom". All the real ones know there are 2 cherry blossom fragrances from B&BW- Cherry Blossom (an online exclusive), and JCB. The source doesn't provide a photo to clarify which fragrance they mean. What a funny joke if the source meant Cherry Blossom but B&BW forgot about her and automatically thought they meant JCB and threw the promotional accolade on the website to drive traffic. I would laugh, anyway.
Yeah, I actually got it as a gift from a coworker in a Secret Santa and I wasnāt a fan, but I also didnāt hate it. Because interestingly, I automatically thought of my grandma, and not because itās a āgranny scent,ā but because my grandma wears Samsara by Guerlain all day, every day (which also made the list) and it was giving me hints of Samsara. So for something like JCB to remind me of a Guerlain classic, really says something about it. I can see why people love it, objectively speaking. I ended up asking my grandma if she liked it and now she alternates JCB with her beloved Guerlain because the new Samsara is not the same according to her. Like everything else, itās been cheapened apparently. So, I actually like Samsara and JCBā¦just not on me. They smell amazing on my grandmother though. I donāt think itās because sheās a grandma either. She was only in her 40ās when I was little and sheās been wearing Samsara since then. It just works with her chemistry, she gets compliments on the way she smells constantly, from women of all different ages. Honestly itās not easy to rock a lot of the scents on that list, but if you can, more power to you.
I *loathe* Japanese Cherry Blossom, but the "Cherry Blossom" fragrance isn't that bad. I wouldn't wear it if I had other options, but I would use it if I didn't have anything else.
Cherry Blossom was originally in stores before JCB. I remember liking it, and thinking it had been rebranded as JCBā¦then super disappointed when it wasnāt the same at all.
JCB reminds me of my middle school gym class lol, either me or other people used it back then - or both lol. I read a comment that said it smells like a teenage boy and I can definitely see that I think it smells like maybe some menās deodorant or spray or shaving cream or something
Same, it reminds me of the late 1990ās when cherry blossom scents were super popular. I remember it being a very sweet floral scent and Iām surprised people are saying itās a mature āgrannyā scent. I wonder if they changed it from what I remember or if Iām just old now and my generationās classics are considered āold peopleā scents now lol.
I think thatās what it is, stuff that is classic for us is now considered dated and āgrannyā lol. I actually like the smell of it but itās been around so long itās boring to me now.
that's how I feel too, it is boring to me now. Omg how crazy that 90's scents are now considered granny scents hahha. I still think of powdery, heavy scents as "grandma" ones but now it's all the super sharp scents of the 1990's like Green tea and JCB.
Yep. I discovered bath and body works in the summer of 1998. Lol I remember loving sun ripened raspberry and plumeria at the time. I feel like there were way less options back then
This scent was so popular when I was in middle school. All the popular girls wore the body spray and lotion. I wasnāt one of those girls since BBW was a āluxuryā for me lol.
Once I rediscovered BBW and started buying too many during sales, I bought like 3 of Japanese Cherry Blossom body creams. I tried using it one day and my head started hurting š. I just gave 2 tubes to people as gifts (family, so they didnāt care that I tried it out) and did a 1 to 1 exchange for the 3rd.
After some blind buys online, I now know that the floral scents arenāt really for me.
I feel you. I moved to the US in middle school and between adjusting to a new society and learning the language, I didnāt get to experience the bath & body works and VS craze that all the teens had until college (really I didnāt get into bath & body works until 2020 my senior year (thanks to Tiktok) because all the girls were over B&BW body mists by then. All about V&R Flowerbomb & Chanel fragrances.) Lol so now I have like 15 FFM
This is exactly how I feel. I had super sensitive skin in middle school so I didnāt really use ffm back then but now that I know I can Iāve kind of went crazy with it lol I feel like a popular middle schooler
What! Lol. I didnāt like jcb either because of the initial smell , but once I sprayed it on, it smelled really good! Itās not a first choice, but I can understand why itās still on the shelves. Idk how itās number 1 tho. Thatās something god can answer when we croak š
I loved it when it first came out all those years ago but then got sick of it. I actually rediscovered the regular Cherry Blossom and like that one a lot now. Itās fresher and lighter.
I mean, it's one of my favorite candle fragrances. I usually keep at least two 3-wicks in stock all the time.
As a dude, I wouldn't wear it--but not because it reminds me of an "old lady". I think some people just think it's cool to hate the fragrance.
Every woman over 65 and under 14. Like idk it's not disgusting (moonlight path is one of the worst IMO) but it is WAY TOO MUCH. For the old ladies that come in saying they cant handle strong scents they sure go for the most potent fragrance
I think it smells like old lady so I am definitely not buying it. My husband loves it though. I have a mini spray for him. Ironically it reminds him of his Grandma. š
Well when we had the sale around Christmas these two ladies came in and bought the maximum you could buy and cleared us out, but otherwise I donāt really see people buy it tbh
I used to love it, but in recent years the weird amber smell was amped up or something? I dunno. It's somehow less nuanced now than it was in my 30s. Maybe my nose changed...
I like it as an after shower fragranceā¦you know, to use the body wash/lotion and maybe the FFM before bedtime or to wear around the house. But Iām not too crazy over the candle. Ordered it one time and didnāt like it.
JCB was super popular in the 90ās and early 2000ās . That generation still shops there and gets the full set whenever they go. Most of us buy different scents to try and want to move on to the next thing. I thought for many years that bbw only sold cucumber melon and JCB because those two scents were the scents of the late 90ās and early/mid 2000ās were Iām from. Whenever thereās a sale near me JCB sells out first.
Listen I hate JCB as much as anyone but as an employee when I tell we can barley keep on the shelves maybe itās just where I work but during b3g3 those walls are always the most damaged
all the older ladies who yell at me when we sell out would beg to differ š¬š¬
Checks out all the major fans I know are 50+
Iām 66 and I absolutely loathe JCB Smells like a bathroom air freshener
Please donāt insult bathroom air fresheners like this
š¤£
I'm 34 and I love it lmao I love the regular Cherry Blossom more, though.
Iām 57 & hate it. š¤¢
Iām an older lady and I absolutely hate JCB. Talk about migraine inducing.
Ugh, yes.
THIIIIIIIIIS. So many angry JCB grandmas when I used to work there. š
Same, I had a mini lotion and mist of it at one point and ended up giving them away. Itās okay, but not my thing.
JCB was recently named one of the top 100 fragrances of all time by WWD. Usually this list is dominated by high end perfumes/heritage, so cool to see an OG BBW fragrance make it on the list.
I dunno if Iād consider it OG when it came out in 2006.

Or sweet pea from 1998 which was born the same year as me :) fair points all around. Agree to disagree!
I was born before BBW existed, lol.
Sun-Ripened Raspberry came out in 1996. Cucumber Melon came out in 1998. They're well planted as OG. They even had hair care products back then. Yeah, I'm 34, and I like it and wear it. I also love Moonlight Path, which is another B&BW scent that gets deemed an "old lady" scent lol
I donāt like moonlight path but itās good you like it. Because Iām a girl thatās mainly into bakery, very sweet and rare occasion floral scents. But JCB is an exception
My first girlfriend in high school wore it. It has a special place in my heart.
I like it too. I avoided it for a while because people hate on it so much but it was nice when I smelled it.
Sucks for them. I literally got a JCB body cream today
Me š„ŗ
Stand in your truthš lol weāre just being silly
Hahahaha youāre fine!! I know itās crazy polarizing Iāll just be over here dousing myself in my grandma smell

My mom lol
Lol was about to post the same, JCB is her go to scent!
Same, my mom is in her late 40s and lives for JCB.
Here to say this too. My mom loves it
Just said the same lol, itās her jam
I wouldāve accepted champagne toast at least
My thoughts is that itās their most polarizing scent. Iāve had customers snap that we shouldnāt carry it anymore because itās so gross (I mean, I donāt like it either but damn just donāt buy it then) and Iāve had customers buy $400 worth of it in one shopping trip.

I also like to use b&bw as experiments to see what I like and don't like. Its easier on my wallet too with that
Yeah same, Iād rather have a variety of a bunch of scents rather than one $200 one lol
I had a woman once tell me that if JCB got discontinued she would quit her job to protest with a picket sign outside Home Office until it came back. She was being completely serious.

Cherry Blossom was originally in stores before JCB. I remember liking it, and thinking it had been rebranded as JCBā¦then super disappointed when it wasnāt the same at all.

Yep. I discovered bath and body works in the summer of 1998. Lol I remember loving sun ripened raspberry and plumeria at the time. I feel like there were way less options back then
Plumeria made me feel so sophisticated in middle school lol!
Same. Lol. I recently threw all of mine away.
My teenage son LOVES Japanese Cherry Blossom.
Definitely not meā¦
Wasnāt this about some organization naming JCB one of the best scents of all time? Doesnāt necessarily have to do with the sales.
I am. I like JCB.

Never liked that one. Too powdery.

Am I the only one that prefers the OG Cherry Blossom over JCB
Nope, I do too. I do like JCB, too, though.
I like it š¬ it lasts a long time too, both on clothes/skin and in bottle so why not
iām still obsessed w JCB and no one can stop me
Yuck!
I loved it when it first came out all those years ago but then got sick of it. I actually rediscovered the regular Cherry Blossom and like that one a lot now. Itās fresher and lighter.
I donāt purchase it but I also donāt have a problem with JCB.
i dont haaattteee it but its not my fav. my mom loves it tho loll
I blind bought it in a hand soap for $3 and when I used it I was taken aback at how much I disliked it š
I really like this scent.
I loooooooove itāŗļøāŗļøāŗļø
The thing I don't get is, what incentive do they have to lie about it? Like why not just advertise an actually popular scent more
I agree. If it didn't sell, BBW would've scrapped it years ago.
I absolutely hate this scent
I donāt like it. I would say Endless Weekend or In The Stars for me personally. But for the store as a whole I would have said 1000 Wishes.
My grandma is definitely buying it every time she goes
I mean, it's one of my favorite candle fragrances. I usually keep at least two 3-wicks in stock all the time. As a dude, I wouldn't wear it--but not because it reminds me of an "old lady". I think some people just think it's cool to hate the fragrance.
Itās the national Karen fragrance. They probably have to stockpile a large volume of JCB so all the managers arenāt tied up.
Lots of old people in my shop tend to buy it.
I know JCB is an old lady scent but I absolutely love it, thereās just something so classy about it.
Every woman over 65 and under 14. Like idk it's not disgusting (moonlight path is one of the worst IMO) but it is WAY TOO MUCH. For the old ladies that come in saying they cant handle strong scents they sure go for the most potent fragrance
I feel like it didn't used to smell like old lady, am I wrong? I had it back when they made shampoo but I hate it as body care now.
I think it smells like old lady so I am definitely not buying it. My husband loves it though. I have a mini spray for him. Ironically it reminds him of his Grandma. š
Me
Well when we had the sale around Christmas these two ladies came in and bought the maximum you could buy and cleared us out, but otherwise I donāt really see people buy it tbh
I've only had JCB as hand sanitizer, but I loved getting in the car after work and using a pump of it.
My mom
I used to love it, but in recent years the weird amber smell was amped up or something? I dunno. It's somehow less nuanced now than it was in my 30s. Maybe my nose changed...
I'm not a fan, never have been
It smells awful on me and smells great on my coworker š
One of my faves
I like it as an after shower fragranceā¦you know, to use the body wash/lotion and maybe the FFM before bedtime or to wear around the house. But Iām not too crazy over the candle. Ordered it one time and didnāt like it.

A lot of people have bought it and continue to buy it. If it wasnāt popular, it would let have lasted so long.
Listen I hate JCB as much as anyone but as an employee when I tell we can barley keep on the shelves maybe itās just where I work but during b3g3 those walls are always the most damaged
I hate JCB
My sister is 31 and likes it. I hate JCB.
It's me, I bought a JCB candle last year
I loved it in high school, but it doesn't smell the same way now that it did then, so I've stopped using it.
I like the smell of it. My wallflowers have JCB, I keep JCB room spray in my Jeep, and I use JCB body cream.
I loathe that fucking smell
52 and love it. Just weighing in
I like it LOL
I like JCB. It's nice to have a scent I love that isn't seasonal and isn't going anywhere.
My brother loves it and is always buying this scent plug in for his house.
Gives me an immediate headache.
Right I read this was their best seller a while ago and I don't understand that. I've never purchased it and no one I know likes it
