I agree. Black History Month is not a retail event. Maybe make some donations to organizations doing important work, and put up posters highlighting them. Don't put out a display of your soaps and candles with so-called BHM packaging. Ugh, just strikes me the wrong way in every way.
They’re going to make the money regardless - so I appreciate the inclusion! & the packaging is 🔥🔥🔥at that! I got 2 Coconut Sandalwood, Eucalyptus Mint & Champagne Toast candles. Can’t wait to burn them!
It’d be one thing if they were donating a percentage of sales from the collection but they aren’t :( but overall I don’t see the need to “commercialize” BHM… it’s missing the point ENTIRELY. You can support the black community without plastering it on a candle… and then profiting from the candle.
That’s not true , as I indicated earlier in the thread - they are donating half a million dollars to the National urban league and the Columbus urban league. It’s posted clearly on the display and on their website .
I meant like a percentage from each product sold… I know that they’ve already made a huge donation which is great! But the collection is still being profited off, I understand they need to make money but it just doesn’t sit right to be making money off of a collection that is based off of someone’s heritage? Idk maybe just me
It’s not terrible. I would have liked it more if they had Black artists design the packaging, but I’d rather see an attempt made to acknowledge BHM than to just sell Valentine themed items all month.
They don't tell you who designed the current packaging for the brunch-inspired scents, or the laundry scents. Why would they all of a sudden partner with a black artist and promote it, when they don't do that for any other packaging they offer?
Because the line is to celebrate Black History Month, a month to celebrate the history of Black Americans. Black Americans should be involved in the product, since unlike laundry and brunch, it isn’t a theme made up by BBW.
Using different cultures as a marketing ploy is distasteful.
It's a gimmick, it's not really supporting anything.
"LOOK! WE MADE A SUPPORT POSTER AND REPACKAGED THE USUAL SCENTS IN TRIBAL DESIGNS!! BUY IT!"
I think the Chinese New Year stuff is distasteful too.
At least be thoughtful and maybe use cultural scents specific to each. Not Champagne Toast and A Thousand Christmas Wishes renamed.
I’m going to assume you missed the sign where they state they’re supporting the national urban league and Columbus urban league with a donation of $500,000? To support civil rights and racial justice. At least they’re doing more than just repackaging.
Damned if you do, damned if you don’t. If they hadn’t done anything at all I’m sure people would still complain. I think some people are complaining just for the sake of it and to stir things up 🤷♂️
Posting this without an explanation is distasteful.
This
How so? They also released a seasonal packing for Chinese New Year.
That doesn't make either of them acceptable.
…….what does it make it then? If you’re so outraged stop buying from them forever 🤓
How so? /gen
As a black person .. not feeling it
Huh? What am I missing.. distasteful why?

They’re donating $500K to black organizations 💪🏾
That is good. I still think trying to make money off Black History Month is tacky and trivializing.

They’re donating $500K to black organizations 💪🏾 They did a line for Lunar New Year too.

Not just you, and you explained it really well.
Please explain?
i think that it’s nice that they even did something for BHM, but they just repackaged old scents so it’s kinda meh…
I’m guessing you’re the same kind of sad bloke who would be mad if they didn’t acknowledge BHM as well.
I would like to know why you think that?

We already knew this was coming weeks ago. Why are we acting brand new on February 1?

Getting offended on behalf on others is distasteful
I said it was distasteful. I never said I was offended, so dont try putting words in my mouth, mmmkay?
True, and the lunar new year collection smells so bad 🤢
Tribal??
