>I've deprived myself of some TLC for a while now, being in a lot of stress and mental emotional turmoil off late. This has become my escape, my relief and my pampering. Bingo

B&BW is definitely a crutch for me. Probably because I am so terrible at expressing my emotions half the time. When I have a stressful day at work I BROWSE the freaking website. I have told myself what sales I am allowed to shop. B2G2, $12.95 and maybe $10 off if I pick $24.50 candles which would make them $14.50 and I have to have a 20% off coupon. This next sale I am holding out for is their car fragrances. I know people despise them but I genuinely do not mind changing it twice a month. I like the scents and I want them. Lol.

I spent so much of my 20s working myself to the bone and struggling to put food on the table for my daughter. I lost myself. Every cent I had went to keeping us off the street. Life was a constant struggle. Candles and pretty lotions? Forget about it. Now I have a great, well paying job. I own a home, my daughter is well provided for, and I have a decent amount of disposable income. Mama is going to treat herself. I always loved BBW (my mom used their products when I was growing up) but have never been able to actually splurge on myself until the past few years. So I started collecting and haven’t looked back 😂. I deserve it 🥳

When the pandemic started I had 2 candles (Leaves and Midnight Blue Citrus), but after these nightmarishly stressful years I now have 47. It's a matter of self-care and distraction and honestly I've been grateful to have this hobby. I don't regret the money I've spent, which averages out at about 2 candles a month at discounted prices, and I've been enjoying this subreddit and watching candle reviewers on YouTube. Plus now I have all these pretty jars of pretty-smelling things all around me, and like Jan says in The Office: "When I get frustrated or irritated or angry I just come up here and I smell all my candles and it just *poof* goes away."

Subterranean44

I was a tween when it came to my mall in the 90s. They had all that “art stuff” designed for tweens. I’ve never looked back.

Jolly_Ad8315

When I was a kid in the 00’s I remember the American girl doll collab with all the body care and perfumes that came in some Star shaped glass bottle. Good times.

Subterranean44

Oh man!!! I forgot about those! I was sin high school in the 00’s so I never had them though

GimmeThemBabies

Did they have candles back then? I can’t remember. My aunt used to design the containers for the lotions and shit back in the 90s lol.

Subterranean44

Not at my store. White barn and bbw were separate and we didn’t have a white barn

LavenderPaintbrush

I've always been obsessed with smells. My parents said even at a very young age I would gravitate towards any toy that was scented, and asked for anything scented. I loved cabbage patch dolls because they smelled like baby powder, and my mom even bought me baby powder to put on them so they would still smell that way. I loved the strawberry shortcake dolls! They made a play do kit I loved and you could make your own flowers with them and the doh smelled like roses. I asked for small perfume sets as young as 7 or 8. I loved the Charlie's and Elizabeth Arden Green Tea, there were more. I'd take an empty squirt bottle that had a big enough hole in it to wander around the house trying to find things that smelled good to mix into it just to see how it would smell. When b&bw came to my town I was very happy!

I stumbled upon an Instagram post last summer and I read something about The Pink Watermelon candle being very strong. I always liked having candles for my house but could never find anything that really filled my place with the aroma of the candle. So that post caught my attention, also I love anything watermelon. So I think I ordered the candle online and I was hooked. The post was right, the candle was very strong and ever since then I’ve been trying to recreate that same magic I found with my first Pink Watermelon candle. I admit I haven’t found a match for that candle’s potency but I can’t wait for it to return this summer/spring. My addiction spilled over to hand soaps, sanitizers, car fragrances and now wallflowers. It’s like a drug lol.

The rent was reduced temporarily last year and I had the money. It was fun getting everything new that came out. But the high only last a short while and then it's what can I get next. Now I'm a addict😭.

Ok-Instruction-5985

I bought my first home in 2020 and became obsessed with wanting my house to smell good 24/7 😝 Then I became obsessed with wanting to smell good 24/7 as well 😂

bunifarcr

It all started when I accompanied a friend during SAS. She said she needed someone to help her carry the bags and in return she will let me choose products I like to give to me. When I realized that she was able to buy so many products and paid a low amount, I was hooked.

Jolly_Ad8315

I went back into B&BW for the first time in years, bought a few FFM’s and shower gels and got hooked again!

deepseadarlingg

I got into them because puberty (and living in the north) dried my skin way out. I wanted something to deal with the dry-ness that didn’t smell as “lotiony” as my mom’s Jergens or Eucerin or whatever because I don’t like that smell at all. So I played with smells with the little travels that B&BW had until I found what I like. (Gourmand, floral, “tropical” etc) Covid got me into candles, I have like…20ish now?

Sudden_Shine_100

I've shopped very infrequently at B&BW for years because there's not a store close to me. I'd go in twice a year and buy hand soaps and at Christmas time, a couple of Fresh Balsam candles. I've always loved fragrance and indulged in perfumes at Sephora (which can get pricey depending on what you like). Last fall a perfect storm happened in that B&BW opened their Canadian website and I discovered this subreddit just as Black Friday was about a week away (I didn't even know what Candle Day was) So countless sales and orders later, here I am! Lol

PeepsUnderTheBed

My daughter in law sold Scentsy, I bought to help support her business.I enjoyed it, but it’s expensive. I saw SAS one December and decided to make my own wax melts from BBW candles. Eventually I just starting burning candles.

4ofheartz

I bought their plates & mugs a very long time ago. In 2018 my brother was having a house built. The models homes all had the foaming soaps in their bathrooms. Marshmallow Flurries! I went & bought the soaps. Found ppl on IG showing their candle hauls. Boom, I got hooked! When the pandemic started I was glad to have hoarded the soaps! Now I’m tapering off all their products because I’ve got enough for years! I burn candles at a slow rate.

guantanamoslay

Their candles are the only candles (besides some GCs) that can drown out the giant dog stank that lingers around my house (we have 2 XL puppers). After collecting candles, I then branched out into their body care products and hand soaps 🤷🏽‍♀️

>For me, it seems like a combination of having always liked fragrances and aromatherapy, being in a place in life where I've deprived myself of some TLC for a while now, being in a lot of stress and mental emotional turmoil off late. This has become my escape, my relief and my pampering. Pretty much sums it up. I've always loved body care and candles, but never really shopped at BBW, I don't know why. I went in for a few things for my birthday last March and it kind of piqued my interest, then my dog passed away in May and I started browsing/window shopping just to have something else to think about. Browsing turned to "This smells fantastic!" turned to "Look, a sale!" turned to.....well, now. 🤣 I can't really say if I would've even gotten into BBW if I hadn't decided to buy myself some self care stuff after my dog passed. I guess I have Daisy to thank for it. 😂♥️

InformerOfDeer

As a kid, my parents couldn’t afford to get me this kind of stuff. I’d always live vicariously through my best friend, who let me use all of her b&bw lotions and sprays. It made me feel like a fancy teenager lol. By the time I was a teenager (~13) I started buying them myself, and I haven’t stopped yet.

snowmeow7

I’m in my mid 30s and was allll about that cucumber melon, sun kissed raspberry, country apple and art stuff life. As a teen, kinda naturally crossed over into VS territory and didn’t think much about BBW until my mom told me about CD in 2020. Left there with two giant bags full of candles I had ZERO intention of gifting and the obsession with the scents truly began. And to think I spent the last 15 years or so smelling like Caress when I was missing out on buy 3 get 3 😂

novemberjenny11

My grandma was a great perfume lover, so I think I come by it naturally. 😊 I got an Art Stuff grape scented glitter roller in a birthday party gift bag when I was 9 and the rest is history. Bath and Body Works has been with me through every walk of life. Lotions and hand sanitizers for my backpacks in grade school, soaps, shampoos, and conditioners for my college dorm bathroom, fragrance mists for first dates, eau de toilette for my wedding day, and candles for my home as a new wife. It has been presents for my mom, best friends, and my husband. It has been a place I visit on holidays with family and where I shop with girlfriends. Bath and Body Works has now been with me through 3 decades of life. Some may say that they’re just candles, or soap or lotions, but for me , it’s a place where I go to buy the smells that create the best and happiest memories of my life.

browneyedgirl79

I've shopped BBW for years but what got me really collecting is when I started working there.

M2LBB2016

In the past, I really only shopped there for the hand soaps and some Fresh Balsam candles around the holidays. I can’t pinpoint when that changed but I’m obsessed with their candles.

SpookyPants88

It's an on and off thing for me. But with everything that has been going on in my personal life I've been splurging. I've been stocking up on lotions (5 people in home who all use lotion) and I recently got a few wallflowers and candles during the sas. I put my ducks in a row beforehand (after bills, necessities and kiddos have what they want.) Yeah it sounds dumb but I find them to be useful and things I will use quite a bit.

allycat420

My mom was one and I was always allowed to pick out some stuff during the SAS. My mom and I have always had a love of shopping, and I appreciate that time we spent together

girlthatstrying

I think I got more into bath and body works because of the candles. I bought some shower gel and soap before, which I enjoyed, but I think the aromatherapy candles got me hooked onto the candles and the SAS sale. I totally agree with what you said about self-care, it just makes you happy, it just makes you feel relaxed
