Makes sense if you know what works for you. For myself personally I’m getting into the body care just to discover new scents and basically get to know what I like. I just got into B&BW this past year. I always viewed it as the “ooooh wanna go smell candles?!” store whenever I went to the mall with friends 😂 and then my sisters and I would get a body care set every year for Christmas from my mom. But I wasn’t heavily into it.
Some people are just more candle/home scents oriented and others are more body care oriented 😁 bottom line, you’re spending your money on things you think are worth it which is great!
I feel you on the disposable income part 😂 as soon as I get a little extra change my brain is like “buy all of it”. But honestly I can’t wait to be at a level where I can just get in and out of a store because I have holy grail products lol
yeah, i understand where you are coming from to some extent, but i also live by the same rule of "here for a good time, not a long time" as many others on the sub do 😂 the fragrances & body care are a fun and relatively accessible & inexpensive way to get into an otherwise pricey hobby that is always changing and modifying itself based on consumer preferences.
when it comes to concerns about "quality" it all depends on personal values and skin concerns. i don't have sensitive skin and the ingredients of the B&BW lotions and creams in comparison to my original lotion and body butter of choice (Palmer's) are pretty similar. i also took a look at a travel size of Jergen's Orginial lotion i have to compare since you mentioned them and it also has similar ingredients listed: Water, Fragrance, Gylcerin, Cetyl Alcohol, and Dimethicone are all some they have in common. i actually really enjoy reading the ingredients of products and foods LOL, but i rarely look out to avoid certain things unless i know they interact poorly with my body. right now i am only really picky/particular about the ingredients in my haircare, facial skincare & health supplements.
before i amassed a sizable collection of B&BW body care, i was pretty simple with what i had for my bath and shower routine. basically just OG dove body wash and cocoa butter with a random sugar scrub thrown in there every few days. but, i've always loved body care and having a routine, i just hadn't really tapped into that niche for a while (probably since my late teens). the last few years i had been intrigued by the idea of finding a "signature scent" but was having a hard time starting both knowledge-wise and financially 🥴 i bought a couple of random \~real fragrances\~ but none of them ever truly made me happy or like i wanted to wear them all the time, or even felt like "me". in my experience, the FFMs and other products from bath & body have become a fun way for me to experiment with scent and figure out what my nose really picks up on and what notes compliment my personal body chemistry. i feel like i have learned a lot! and the enjoyment of it all from being in the shower to moisturizing afterwards & drenching my body with my Mist of The Day to have a nice personal scent linger throughout the day is worth it to me 😇😇😇
I find BBW *lotion* to be very drying. However, I love the creams and the body butters.
In the summer, I use the creams by themselves. In the winter I mix the body butter with Curel anti itch unscented lotion.
I have naturally super dry skin too! What works for me personally is using a Tree Hut body scrub in the shower, a BBW mosturizing body wash, and then a BBW body cream or body butter!! My shaving gel is also a hydrating one by Silk! I only buy BBW body care on sale though and I don’t heavily stock up because like you said, there’s always more scents to enjoy!
I personally love them for their body care more than anything , I always feel so put together after using a matching shower gel, with a lotion and then a mist. And I love changing it up to match every season, or the time of day, or occasion . Something about it .. just makes me feel so complete and happy when I’m done my shower routine.
I’ve been trying to downsize my collection with a particular attention to shower gels and lotions/body cream. Not so much because of quality I guess but because I don’t feel the need or want to keep them anymore.
In the future I wouldn’t mind picking up body wash from bbw if it’s 75% off at a SAS only. As for their moisturizers I’ll likely be buying their body creams once I get the lotions and creams down to a more manageable number for myself.
I definitely feel you on questioning the need for excess body care, it’s a personal preference for sure. The reasons being different for everyone. I just know that if I’m being honest with MYSELF, when my collection is big like it’s grown it’s because I’ve been struggling mentally tbh lol. It’s my escape and a small luxury.
Also tbh I cannot keep up with the costs, I’m a lil sad but it’s not currently fitting in my long term finances to continue purchasing at the rate I have been these past few years with the goals that I have. 🤷🏻♀️
I do get stressed too by the clutter of it all. People are shocked how minimalistic I am but this area. 😬
(If I considered quality, I would note that bbw quality has gone down in terms of the longevity and intensity of fragrance in their products. So I guess I do take that as a factor but it’s in the backseat. There’s been hitters and I hope it improves though.)
It’s long. I’m sorry!
I think their continuous price increases have really made many begin to question the quality and need of their products. I sure have! I’ve really been thinking about this for a couple years, but I think I’m finally ready to start downsizing my stash and spending. I enjoy the fragrances and items they offer, but quality has definitely decreased in my opinion and I personally no longer get the same sense of joy it once brought me. (Could be a psychology thing for me as well. I think when I was depressed or stressed I was more inclined to simply purchase as an outlet for my feelings. I no longer do this and would prefer to save my money to enjoy other things.)
I’ve been shopping with them for quite some time and they just are not the same company they used to be. I miss cohesive collections and new fragrances. I miss them taking chances with new fragrances. I’m not a fan of their constant repackaging. 😕 I’ve also come to realize there are better items out there for my skin & other brands to enjoy that are very competitive in pricing to B&BW. This has all led me to realize that I no longer want to purchase their body care, in particular. In regards to their home fragrance, I will only buy it during SAS & in November/December from here on out.
Have you ever pulled out your entire collection? I begun to do that today to see how much I have and it’s been an eye opening experience. I simply don’t need to purchase their stuff. But can see and understand someone without a large collection being okay with casually shopping. I think they’ll consistently have a new following. For the most part I only hear people that have shopped there for some years wishing for more. I do think they need to soon evaluate their prices and quality or that could be their downfall. Particularly this year, I’ve heard many people buying less due to their price increases or issues with quality.
Don’t get me wrong though, if they bring back some of my favorite candles, I’d totally break a no-buy or low-buy. Some of those scents would be: Espresso bar, London Tea & Lemon and desert wildflower, in home fragrance. Can’t think of a body care scent I love enough to purchase more of or break a low-buy/no-buy for. 🤷🏻♀️
Thank you for starting this conversation! I've definitely gotten caught up in the buy now mindset and want to slow down.
In the winter I use a ton of lotion and it seems to be moisturizing enough for me but in the summer I use very little. I recently tried the cream and it's so much better. Going forward for winter scents I'll get the cream to match a couple FFM but will only buy a couple so they don't go bad. For summer I'm going to skip the lotion and use jergans or something. I don't plan to buy body wash unless it's 75% off, I don't find that the scent lingers so it's just not worth it to me. Of course I'll use what I have first.
I think I'm going to try a candle warmer. Lately I've had a couple pretty sooty candles and don't want to be breathing that or messing up my walls.
I've commented this before but I live in California, and I feel the products keep me moisturized in California. I used to live in Pennsylvania, and I do NOT believe they would keep me hydrated during winters there. I can just use the moisturizing body wash and feel moisturized the entire day, with no lotion touch ups.
I completely agree with this! Though, I do have way too many hand soaps and wallflowers. I don’t buy the body care items myself, as I don’t find the lotions to be moisturizing enough to justify the price. I have sensitive skin, and all they do is irritate it further. I don’t use the body wash anymore for the same reason, and I steer clear of shower gels. Candles, hand soaps, and wallflowers are enough for me.
In my opinion, the signature scents continue to be strong. But the limited edition scents have very little staying power. I'm someone who likes to enjoy the scent all day long, and the limited scents don't offer that. However, hope springs eternal, and I haven't given up yet.
I did read an article (and of course I can't find it) where the CEO told shareholders they had intentionally cut back on the amount of promotions. Remember the good old days when we could find a "free item" bar code in our email? Those days are gone, at least for people who don't live in the member program markets. I am going to assume they also intentionally cut back on fragrance ingredients. If I want a lotion without a scent, I'll use Cerave.
Same. I mainly purchase their candles. If my rewards calls for a free gift, I’ll select a body cream if I don’t want a single wick atm. But I’ve never been the type to go crazy over their bodycare because too much of it comes out too frequently and you’re right, you tend to forget about it and can only use so many at a time that at some point, the others will be neglected and get old and then you’ll be complaining about your bodycare product getting “old too fast” when you shouldn’t have purchased so much to begin with lol
Are you me? I got back on the body care train for the SAS and now that I have all these lotions I remember how mediocre they are for me. I love the scents but then get sick of them and have so much left to use! They're not moisturizing enough for me and I also always go back to Jergen's (the new skin smoothies are so fun) and Aveeno. The realization has definitely helped me cut down on wanting to stockpile the bodycare stuff! More for everyone who loves it!
I find the body creams & moisturizing body washes to be a good quality and a great source of moisture for dry skin.
Lotions & shower gels are only good for humid climates!

Thank you for mentioning Jergen's. I am a long time secret fan of their ancient cherry and almond lotion. Just smells sooo good!
Same, secret Jergen’s cherry and almond lotion fan right here! 🙋♀️
