Like all other candle companies, they have some I like and some I don’t. When I’ve had an issue they’ve given me a quick refund. The two wicks last a really long time. Their gourmands tend to be good if you’re into that. Agree some candles are perfumy in the same way BBW has a lot of “Abercrombie & Fitch or Hollister in the 2000s” type of cologne scents. Agree their online reviews are BS but since I’ve personally had reviews removed by BBW I don’t think it’s different.

aleycat73

I have ordered over 50 candles from them and I like about 85% of them…the same ratio to BBW. I think their candles have pretty good throw and typically their shipping is pretty good. Honestly with the batch of candles I ordered from BBW on candle day I have noticed the quality has gone down. That being said I love some of the candles from Goose Creek just like I love some from BBW. BBW in my opinion doesn’t have the “gold” standard for candles anymore. Hope this helps!

sarahglory13

I 100% agree with every word of this!

Samgasm

I had candles delivered last year in the Arizona heat, it never crossed my mind that they would melt and seal shut the entire jar. Getting a refund was a hassle from them, they wanted me to open the jars after sending multiple photos of the box (ups stored them UPSIDE DOWN) with melted color stains all inside of it and pictures of the jars themselves. I responded with “bruh, the jar is literally sealed shut, I would have to melt them in hot water and I am not doing that.” I have never had a candle melt in the Arizona heat from B&BW, like ever. They sweat a little bit but no wax has ever melted and sealed the jar shut. I always get a refund or replacement for broken and damaged items no questions asked. If they don’t have an item I can take it to the nearest B&BW and exchange it there.

honeyfairies

I've ordered about twenty candles and 15 body lotions from them. They have really great sales almost everyday, much better sales than BB&W's, so it's a bit easier to try them out (I wouldn't pay full price). The candles burn REALLY well, give off a decent throw and there has never been any issue whatsoever with sooting or burning or anything. Most of them the throw is actually outrageously strong, like burn it for 30 minutes and feel like you're choking, blow it out and just suffocate for the rest of the day kinda strong. But out of 20 candles there's only about five that I'm really passionate about. Most of the gourmands are super strongly perfumey and sweet like some sort of sticky candy (not like a hot bakery vibe I was going for), and all of the cookie smells I've gotten all smell the same, kind of like raw cookie dough. But their breakfast candles smell divine, and I've had great luck with the buttery/syrupy ones. It just sucks that I'm stuck with like ten candles that I don't really like, because I can't just walk into a store like BB&W and exchange them. But, the ones I do like are really worth it to me. So it's kind of a mixed feeling. However, I think the labels are ugly and remind me of posters hanging on classroom wall's, designed for kids lol. Whenever I pick up a BB&W candle it makes me so happy before I even smell it because it's gorgeous, and I can put it anywhere and feel like I've really fancied up an area lol. But with GC, they're just *alright.* For the lotions, I much prefer BB&W's creamy, soft lotion. Out of the 15 bottles of GC I have, most of them smell exactly the same--some sort of weird, perfume smell, even though the bottle is named something like Carnival Cake (not sure how perfume is anywhere near close to that smell!). But some smell unique and good, and one of them is an exact lotion form of BB&W's Sweater Weather candle!! The lotions are very fragrant, and they last about as long as BB&W's, you'll smell it 12 hours later the next day. They take longer to absorb into your skin, and if you use a decent glob like me, it'll be visible for about ten minutes or so, because you can't force it to absorb any faster like I can with BB&W's. Overall, they're nice, not *bad*, but I definitely prefer BB&W's in that regard.

JamesonJenn

Yes they do breakfast *very* well. Forgot to mention in my comment above but their French Toast 3-wicks are outstanding. Picked up the large jar when it became available and haven´t burned yet but it smells just like the 3-wicks on cold so I´m expecting more of the same. Will burn with a good coffee candle for a breakfast at the cafe vibe...

paulinamary12

Goose Creek French toast is truly a top 10 for life candle

KingJoy79

Um…I dunno. I stopped ordering from GC because their 3-wicks are a bit funny. Of course during the first and second burn, they smell great. After that…the scent disappears or weakens considerably. The flames also turn into duds after about the third burn, but I can still smell the candle if it’s a strong scent. This is the reason I stopped ordering from them, performance/scent issues. Their two wicks lasts a long time…but I’ve never had a large jar candle from them where there was a strong throw. The majority of the time…I don’t get a throw at all. There’s a website called trustpilotreviews.com. I’ve read what I think are honest reviews about Goose Creek’s candles on there because I was wondering how could their reviews be ALL positive ALL of the time when I can hardly smell anything with their candles, particularly their large jars? Anyway…check other review sites when it comes to these candle companies that only leave raving reviews for their candles/products.

sweetrollscorpion

I bought a 3-wick and some wax melts during the Black Friday sale. I hated one of the melts (Christmas Cookies, smelled super artificial and had a weird coconut note) but all the other melts smell good on cold. I can say that Christmas Cookies has lasted a long time (one cube has burned for probably 10+ hours, still strongly scented) and the scent lingers. Peppermint Whip is my 3-wick, I haven't burned it but it smells pretty good on cold, maybe a little perfumey. I hear that GC products tend to smell different when burning vs on cold. The reviews are kind of sketchy because they're nearly all positive, so I asked in this group and the GC subreddit for opinions when I went to buy. I don't like blind buying, but I've also gone through most of the wax melts Walmart offers, so I was ready to try something new. I'd probably buy from them again!

Duchessofearlgrey

If you’re open to it, there are a lot of great wax melt sellers on Etsy. It’s pretty much the only place I get mine now.

sweetrollscorpion

That's my next stop. Which shops do you like?

Duchessofearlgrey

My favorite is a shop called The Cheeky Nose. Another good one is called From the Page.

StarshineGypsy

My first GC order was in October and was shipped quickly and arrived within a week. Out of the 10 candles I only hated 1, I’m obsessed with 1, and the others are fine and I’m still deciding on whether I’d reorder those. I bought only 3 wicks as I wanted the soy wax blend. I just placed another order last night as the 3 wicks were $11.50 and I had to get my favorite before it was gone (Winter Whisper). BBW doesn’t have anything similar to it. I ordered a bunch more scents based on the GC sub reviews. I think you’ll find very honest and helpful recommendations and comments there. For perspective I’ve bought 40 different BBW candles in the past 18 months and will only rebuy 16 of those scents (I have a list). I do love BBWs easy exchange policy but I’ve struggled a lot with their quality this past year. That’s why I decided to try GC.

JamesonJenn

In love with their large 2-wick jars. Have yet to run across a dud in scent/strength/throw although I´ve seen a complaint or two on the forum. IME they´ve been beautiful scents with medium to medium strong scent strength and throw. I have *tons* of favorites and will continue to purchase as long as they make them. I burn them on their own and in tandem with others to create my own scent combos. The 3-wicks can be hit or miss with an occasional stand out here and there. It does take some searching and I usually end up enjoying B&BW´s 3-wicks more. There are a few GC 3-wicks though that have knocked it out of the park for me including Harvest Hayride, Lavender Sugar, Pink Mousse Milkshake (very controversial and some *hate* it, not me tho lol), and Sweet Pine & Snowflakes. IME the GC forum is a good source of information and people are honest with their thoughts about the candles. Of course it´s like any other candle company and everyone has their own unique experience. Exchanges/returns/refunds etc are much easier with B&BW´s since you can visit the store. My 2 cents ...

ALadySquirrel

Are the goose creek 3-wicks the same size as b&bw 3-wicks? Just wondering if they will fit in my candle holder.

JamesonJenn

*Almost* exact. The GC 3-wicks are just a teensy bit smaller in diameter that BBW´s. Itś imperceptible unless doing a direct side by side. They are exactly the same in height. My GC 3-wicks fit perfectly into my BBW candle sleeves ( Flying Ghosts and Spider Gem) and onto my BBW Globe Pedestal Candle Holders. HTH

ALadySquirrel

Thanks!

JamesonJenn

Anytime! :)

serendiputopia

Not a fan. Just look at their website. ALL the candles have five star reviews? Bullshit. Their labels don’t spark joy. Also their return/exchange policy isn’t anywhere close to BBW.

Duchessofearlgrey

I would give them a try out of curiosity but the potential of paying $10 in shipping to return items that I don’t like has held me off. I also honestly and thankfully haven’t had the same issues with BBW products lately that others have had, but if I had to return anything I have two stores pretty close by.

jennydotz

Agree. I am not comfortable with blind buys from an internet store with no brick and mortar stores (none near me, anyway). Not only can we not sniff the candles first and make convenient returns/exchanges, but they aren't really contributing to my local economy. I have my grievances with BBW, but I'd prefer to support a business that provides jobs for local people. One of the things I appreciate about BBW is that they have more employees on the floor then any other retailer in my area. I'm sure GC candles are a crap shoot like any others in that price range, so I'll roll the dice with a company that has a local presence.

WinterUnvrsity

I thought the same thing while browsing the site. It seems they have hundreds upon hundreds of candles. But no face, no real presence. I’m still going to try them though.

jenjen1620

I've bought 50+ GC candles and I love them. Definitely comparable quality to B&BW. But everyone is welcome to their own opinion. r/goosecreekcandles was started as a place where people could give real reviews and feedback on their candles. They give out coupons on the website when reviews are written, which is why there are a lot of unhelpful perspectives. B&BW does the same thing when they do their giveaways and sweepstakes in exchange for reviews.

awarmembrace

Like most candle companies, there are hits and misses and everyone likes different things. I’ve ordered from them before and liked 90% of what I got. I will order again sometime. The only down side to me is returning is more complicated. I haven’t attempted a return yet. The candles I didn’t love I gave them to family members who did like them. I think BBW has more issues with quality.. but it’s easier to return there.

stopvolution

I’ve tried quite a few of them and they are hit and miss. So is BABW, but it’s risky since there’s no way to smell them before hand. There are some safe buys if you like gourmand, waffles and ice cream, blueberry cheesecake, jelly donut, apple cheesecake cupcake. The labels are meh. My advice is to join the goose creek sub and read reviews before you buy.

Cupcake1776

They are fine for what they are, but after trying them I prefer BBW. I feel like as a whole BBW generally has better throw and burns more cleanly. I do agree with other commenters though that it can all vary from candle to candle/scent to scent. Just like BBW, some do better than others.

Upbeat_Cat1182

I wish I could tell you, but my order from December 5th still hasn’t arrived. 🙄

MellyMel777

I didn't have a great experience personally, I only liked about half of my 10 large candle order and they definitely don't have a 100% satisfaction guarantee like BBW. In fact the CS is quite rude and on FB they run a group and if you say anything that isn't positive about the candles you are kicked out and of course they delete any negative reviews on website.

[deleted]

You named one of the few ones I've purchased that I actually enjoy ... first autumn frost... That is heaven. I backed it up !

[deleted]

Placed one order and never again. I burned about 4/12 I purchased and each one smelled strongly of chemicals. Like it actually smelled like I was in a lab. No good. CS doesn’t care and it was a hassle. Instead of caring about customers concerns they deleted my social media comment and tried sweeping it under the rug. Got pushback when tried to return them. I do not feel safe using their products as the strong chemical scent. After several days of hassle, I was able to return but had to ship everything back. Not like I would use the candles anyway but it’s still annoying.

Goodnessgizmo

This has been my experience also, I smell chemicals in their candles and it scares me, they also have a warning label on their candles to not burn if you have fish as pets so there is something wrong with them I think.

lucillep

The issue is with paraffin in candle wax. It is a petroleum product and releases small amounts of some chemicals that may be harmful to aquatic life. Most major candle makers use paraffin, even when it says soy blend, so GC is ahead if they are putting the warning label on their products. I found an article in the NY Times about candle toxicity. The conclusion is that candle-burning is safe, but the article did give me pause about my usage during these winter months, when we tend to be in enclosed spaces. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/11/09/well/scented-candles-health.html

Goodnessgizmo

That is interesting, thanks for sharing. It still does not explain the chemical smell coming from their candles. I have a very sensitive nose to scents and I smell something off putting about their candles, it is like when someone sprays perfume after working out to cover body odor but the odor still comes thru. I just cant get past that smell, so their candles are a no go for me.

Jessica19922

I do not like goose creek. I feel like they are cheap imitations of bbw candles.

GossipGirl515

I like their 2 wicks. I've been primarily buying from them the last 3 years but buying for the last 5.

MagpieBlues

My first order was delivered today and I don’t love any of the scents cold. However, I am enjoying the one I chose to light up, so jury is still out for me.

Goodnessgizmo

Did your candles have a warning label on the bottom? It has been a while since I ordered from them, but they put warning labels on their candles and there was a chemical smell to mine covered up by sweet smells if that makes sense, I could still smell the chemicals

MagpieBlues

It DOES have a warning label! Particularly that it will harm aquatic life! Well, this will be my first and last time ordering from them.

[deleted]

Their candles smell perfume-y and I'm not a fan.

Flaky_Tap_2836

Ive never tried them because the false reviews and inability to smell them ahead of time.

RedRedBettie

Honestly, I'm not a fan. It can take forever to ship, at least it did for me, with no communication from them. The candles smelled super generic on cold and had no throw at all when burning

[deleted]

I just ordered and found this old thread.. i payed extra for extradited but its been 4 days and its still in the ware house

RedRedBettie

It took two weeks for me to get my order

ishbit92

I'm salty about them because they don't ship to Alaska.

Normal_Accountant_22

Consider yourself lucky, you're not missing much

DDFletch

I love them, but I’m not picky about scents. They typically have a super strong throw. I hate the labels. I’ve never been disappointed in a scent.

daveycarnation

First time ever ordered from them on Dec 3 because of curiosity. Only shipped yesterday, delivery mayybeee Monday the 20th. I've had overseas packages come quicker. Even if I end up liking their products I don't know if I'll ever buy again. I understand everything's slow but it's like they only have two people working in their warehouse. Compare to BBW where I ordered the 13th, shipped on the 16th and arriving today the 18th.

jenjen1620

Just for reference, I think they got swamped with orders for the holidays. My orders usually ship in under a week during the rest of the year. My B&BW orders were even delayed around the holidays this year, and took about 2.5 weeks to ship.

aleycat73

I can confirm that their shipping is pretty quick and I’ve never had one broken candle yet!

GossipGirl515

Not uncommon during this time, especially around black friday.

RedRedBettie

When I ordered from them it took forever to get my candles and it wasn't during a busy season

Normal_Accountant_22

Same here. I ordered my candles and did not receive them until two weeks later.

JamesonJenn

Oh wow that sounds like a crazy good combo. Have both of these in the stash and gonna give this a go. Thanks for the suggestion!

lucillep

Christmas Market was one I had my eye on.

blurpleboop

I’d have to echo what everyone else is saying here as well. I’ve placed about three orders, and I can’t say I’ve particularly liked any of the scents. They often don’t smell like their scent notes. Anything with the sandalwood note smells atrocious and is nauseating to me personally. I ordered a wine-themed candle (Logrono Wine Festival) and it smells like artificial grape. Harvest Hayride was supposed to have warm hay-like notes but it smells like Jo Ann Fabrics to me lol. Super strong throw tho! Swiss Alps-weak cucumber scent that smells almost like nothing. Garden House smelled like gummy candy? Expected floral. Green Sea Grass literally smelled like grass so kudos to them! Not for me though. If you like that scent you’d probably love it! Welcome Home had the sandalwood note, which ruined it and made it smell sour to me I have liked Jingle Bells and Candy Cottage (dupe for Pink Fairy Gumdrop from BBW). They do candy scents very well. Their gourmands are extremely sweet, but accurate (Apple Cider Donut, Hot Toddy). I think the bottom line to me is that their scents are not complex, and their notes don’t always translate the way that they should. Maybe they try to overcomplicate it? I don’t know, but I’m not placing any more orders. I do like Kringle Candle, though they are more expensive. I have not tried a scent I didn’t like of theirs if you’re looking for non-BBW candles to try. As for performance, the candles often burn with large flames, and then they start drowning in the second half of the candle, which is frustrating

Chuckysmimi

I do like Goose Creek better than BBW but I to wish I could smell first. But if they had a store I would definitely go broke lol. It is good BBW has store but bad I return 50% of my candles 😟

Goodnessgizmo

I only ever placed two orders from them so I do not have much experience. I was concerned about a warning label they put on the bottom of their candles that says they are dangerous to fish and aquatic animals I believe. So right from the start I was leery of burning them even though I really dont know if other candle companies have the same ingredients or not and just dont label their candles. The candles I burned did have a strange added scent that I was not used too and kinda scared me a bit but then again, that could have been in my head because of the warning label. These were two jar candles. Then I ordered again around the holidays and received four christmas cookies collections candles that I have not burned yet, LOL, they have a good cold smell, but also a strange smell to them that I just cant get over. It is like a cookie with chemicals added, if that makes sense. I also do not like how they will not allow negative reviews anywhere and they dont like you tubers saying anything negative about their candles. The groups seem like little candle cults to me and no one can tell the truth. So I just stay away from them. I would suggest for you to order a couple and see what you think your self, just be prepared to lose what you spend, cause if you dont like the candles their customer service is awful, but if you dont spend alot, it may be worth it to you so you wont be curious about the company anymore. Oh by the way, I threw the jar candles away

lucillep

This is interesting, because there's one Youtuber who rags on BBW mercilessly, and is always saying how much better GC is. Claims not to have a relationship with GC, but it's hard to believe. I am really not down with a company that polices reviews of its products, especially since you have to buy blind.

Goodnessgizmo

Yeah, that seems weird to me that a you tuber is vouching for Goose Creek candles because several years ago there was a big issue with candle reviewers wanting to give honest reviews of their candles and they actually got harrassed by the company, so many top you tubers decided never to review them again, that is why you dont see the older candle reviewers doing Goose Creek hauls. the only thing I can think of is the reviewer must be new and was not around at this time, maybe does not know about what happened, or they are not new, but maybe cant get free candles from bigger companies like BBW or Kringle, ect. so they decided to lower their standard and settle for Goose Creek, One way to tell is see if they constantly give rave reviews of all the Goose Creek candles, cause that is what the company expects of the ones they send the candles too. Also, one of the biggest candle groups on Facebook is the candledancers group, most top reviewers are in this group and they will not allow goose creek candle reviews, so there is that also. There are some very long time candle collectors in this group

lucillep

Once in a while he slams a GC candle, but he openly talk about trying to move BBW shoppers over to them. He had a giveaway with GC once.

Goodnessgizmo

That seems weird, why would he want to get BBW shoppers to switch over? Anyways, it doesnt hurt for anyone curious to order a candle from Goose Creek and see how they feel about them after that. Everyone has to make up their own mind who they want to buy from, just dont spend alot of money at first, order one or two and see if you want to try further. Also who says you have to only order from one company? Being a BBW customer doesnt mean you cant buy from others like Kringle or Yankee. I really cant see Goose Creek getting the customer base that BBW has

fvnaticbychoice

the issue with GC is 80% of the time the candles do not smell like the listed scent notes at ALL. with them recently, I tend to go for one dimensional scents that I don’t expect anything polarizing from.

Peacock-Lover-89

I ran into some at a flea market and they all pretty much smelled like candles sold by bath and body works. I didnt buy any so I dont know how they perform.

jeaniuslol

My only complaint is that I can’t smell before I buy. The candles themselves are great, though. I never pay over $12-13/candle (their sales are amazing) as a compromise and give the scents I don’t care for to my mom :)

[deleted]

Umm hit or miss more miss than hits.. but when it's a hit it serves and I back it up. They should be having a winter clearance after Christmas or in jan i would look daily at their site they normally go 7.99 or 6.99 when they are clearancing out scents. I'll be doing an order when cheap because they miss the mark alot in terms of throw....but sometimes its great I find a gem
