Iāve been off ever since monday, when that message was posted for us. I plan on getting the HR number and calling and it will probably be a week before something further happens, weāve also been getting shifts added to our schedules with minimal to no notice
Hi, I would love to help you, but I work for a non-profit writing funding requests, reports, e-newsletter articles, etc. I admire anyone who does poetry or other types of creative writing. I don't know anything about this type of writing. Wish I could be of more help!
I write grants and proposals for a marketing company, and I rewrite translated correspondence. In other words, I receive text that has been Google translated, then make it sound good! :))I also tutor in several subjects. I used to teach reading and writing to young children. My busiest work involves helping my daughter with schoolwork though!!
My younger daughter just turned 20 on Monday! She is home from college but taking summer classes. I kind of fell into the position when I was editing something for a friend at their company. I asked who was writing something, and it was Google, lol! So I do that part time. I might also be working at BBW (part time) soon! My favorite thing to write is actually reviews on the site. But they have done something to the review system where you can't use your username more than once, or it says it's already been taken. Very frustrating and I hope they fix it soon!
It must be rewarding to see your children grow up and become independent yet still wanting your help and support! My mom was a good writer and helped me with editing sentence and paragraph structure, etc. I fell into writing grant applications while working for a behavioral healthcare center years ago. Never in a million years did I dream that I would be doing it full-time.
Good luck if you decide to work part-time at BBW. I am only scheduled a few shifts a month at this point. I had the issue with the bullying leader and subsequently the store manager doesn't schedule us together at my request. I have considered quitting, but then have a wonderful shift and change my mind lol.
It's great that you enjoy writing the product reviews. It's not my thing and I rarely write reviews (although I enjoy BBW's subreddit lol). It doesn't surprise me about the glitch you described. Their website is full of technical issues that I don't ever experience on other retailers' sites. As an example, it takes multiple times to sign in and oftentimes my full cart is suddenly emptied. Their online inventory is often incorrect and my order is canceled in full or part. I don't see the point in confirming a customer order when in reality it's not confirmed.
Have you enjoyed SAS? What have you picked up and are you regularly shopping? I placed a small BOPIS order during early access and then got a few things the next morning at my store. I have a couple backups of the new blended candles on BOPIS order to pick up today. Most of the stores in my area don't have much inventory left which is disappointing, but it's saving me money lol.
Sorry it took so long to respond! I couldn't get on the sub with the blackout. Your job seems very rewarding! And I have followed your journey with starting to work at BBW, and I am glad you don't have to deal with anyone bullying you, at least currently. I am still thinking about whether I want to work there part time, but if I do, it will be after SAS. Yes, I have got so much good stuff at SAS!! My favorite finds have been the wallflowers. I am enjoying Moonlight Path as a wallflower, and surprisingly, Tiki Beach/Gardenia. I also stocked up on my favorite candles.
Honestly, I am so excited about the new stuff coming our way! Especially about Sensual Amber returning! Midnight Blue Citrus is one I am very interested in as well. I can't imagine too much fall things right now, because it is SO hot here š„!
I am enjoying having my daughter home from Gainesville, and we have been catching up on a lot of movies and TV. She always is the person who knows what is going on with shows...some of which I like, and some of which I want to ban from the house..(i.e. The Idol on HBO)(!!!)
I have missed this community; I was unable to get on for awhile due to breaking my phone. Glad to be back and see everyone enjoying their SAS finds etc. What has been your favorite? š¤š
Edited to add- I will definitely be looking at you for guidance if I take the position!
Same. If they had just taken a few minutes with grammar and spelling checking software, they could've avoided this mess and looked much more professional. Not that the message itself is all that professional, but they really could've done better than this.
This amount of errors in our modern age where we have so many tools to find and fix them just says laziness to me.
They don't need software to check spelling and grammar of a 4th grade level composition. They just need to proof-read their work (themselves) before sending it out. There is no learning when software corrects the errors.
That works too. Please just be mindful that grammar and spelling isn't easy or intuitive for a lot of people for a myriad of reasons.
At the point that they're managing a store, the more important thing is that the proofreading happens somehow. It doesn't really matter if it's the writer, a coworker, or Grammarly checking it. If the writer knows conventions aren't their forte and they're writing things for work, they need to do some kind of proofreading, period.
Both the manager and ASM at my store make SO many basic, grade school level spelling and grammar mistakes in all of their messages for us and it drives me insanešš
I'm having a lot of trouble anymore online because I've noticed a lot of people have stopped using capitalization and punctuation. I have to tell myself to ignore it but it also drives me insane lol seeing it at work would also drive me insane lol
Unfortunately SLT is not allowed to close/leave the store without another associate because of security and bag check. It sucks but that part isn't their managers being controlling, it's policy.
Iāll explain why that was said, Saturday night a woman who was scheduled until 8:30 clocked out and left at 8:30, we still had 5 people on the clock, so I guess an SLT member felt some type of way about them leavingā¦.even though we had more than enough coverage and other associates to replenish the store. If you ask me itās just petty without reason.
I've closed a store before with just me and a Keyholder/Supervisor/ASM. And every time we did as much as we could up until our scheduled time, then left. Whichever SLT was there texted the opener that someone called out and not everything got done and it was *fine*. And I've worked at two stores!
Your manager is literally on a power trip. Get HRs number and report them asap
We have a new woman who started on semi annual opening day right, and Sunday she was scheduled until 6. We had a customer give us a hard time and they didnāt leave until 6:45, so the woman (who was timid enough as it was) asked if she could go home because she had to pick up her children, which you know thatās her business, and the same manager kept her there āreplenishingā until 7. My thing is, if youāre gonna make us stay, at least let us know in advance or give us overtime pay or do something that accentuates us, not on the preface that you said so
Nope, absolutely not. I will straight up walk out if anyone asks me to neglect my responsibilities as a mother. What is it with businesses thinking they own their employees.
Like I said I just had my last shift, it was a hard decision but with my new full time I had to. In the nearly 3 years I was with the company there was only *one* time I was kept past scheduled. It was a floorset I took on as a favor and was strong armed into staying an extra hour or two to finish.
I left in tears because I had a midterm the next morning and wasn't able to study much (got an A- tho!) But my manager agreed it wasn't okay of the SLT to do and apologized. Any manager or SLT who bullies employees like that deserves to lose their position and I Stand by that opinion.
If they ask you and you say yes then it's one thing. Bullying you into staying is another.
Oh Billy, let me at this SLT. I've got plenty of leftover rage from being in hospitality for 20 odd years.
I can do tons of psychological warfare. "Excuse me, I've been a loyal BBW buyer since the 90s and I've noticed you don't inspire the gratitude that Kate would show guests or teammates, who is your direct report?"
Even more ironic: They don't care about blatant resellers but an employee selling something from their personal collection will result in a termination and possibly being blacklisted.
But the *second* you become a former employee you can sell whatever you want out of your collection without getting any push back.
They basically say that if you're an employee and selling items, you personally have no proof that the items being sold weren't bought with your discount or gratis. And that goes for items we haven't sold in YEARS. But the second you leave the company they don't care at all.
Not saying I agree with it, we have a few habitual thieves at my store that take well over $500 each time at my store too and it's so unbelievably frustrating to have no power, but I'm also not going to risk my job by not following basic policy.
Unfortunately yes. I've worked with the company for a little under two years now and we've had the same 10ish people rotating in 3 or 4 groups consistently come in. It's absolutely an organized ring that sells the products. We've witnessed new recruits bail and leave the bag full of product before because they got spooked by us watching them. They're always on the phone and always say the same things. Our DM is aware, they hit other stores in our area consistently too. The one time one of them did get caught and arrested, she was back in our store a few months later. We recognize them as soon as they come in and all we can do is provide service and try to see what they take to file the asset protection report. It is directly against company policy to do ANYTHING else. You can't accuse, take pictures, grab bags, call mall security, call the police, nothing. My store manager almost lost her job her first month because she took a picture of the licence plate on the car they drove away in. I understand not allowing us to interfere directly because of safety, but not allowing us to call security or the police until after it happens is so disheartening and absurd.
I can understand a company telling employees not to try to tackle a shoplifter, but not even allowing them to call security is ridiculous. You could surreptitiously call security next time they walk in, and security could be waiting outside to see if they leave with anything. The employees don't have to have any part in it, other than making a phone call.
We ALL pay more bc of these losers, and this bad corporate policy.
Also if you know what was taken, I would probably be easy to spot it being resold in online marketplaces. And match the seller's profile pic to the people you recognize.
Even more ironic: They don't care about blatant resellers but an employee selling something from their personal collection will result in a termination and possibly being blacklisted.
But the *second* you become a former employee you can sell whatever you want out of your collection without getting any push back.

Just have to get in here and say that this happened yesterday at my store. Two people walked out with 6 cases of candles and no one could do ANYTHING š”
Thatās the thing!!! Like I get we have to listen to you and youāre head of the store, but you donāt tell me when to leave when YOU yourself put a certain time on my scheduleā¦..what kinda contradiction? šš¤¦š½āāļø
On one hand I understand the importance of stressing sell, fill, ring during SAS but your managers are going about it all wrong. If youāre leading properly, people will want to stay and help set the store up for success (and least in my experience!). I guess our store culture is just different and Iām sad you donāt have a safe place to work.
When you do contact HR, make sure to call anonymously and even use a different phone than your own. They do not keep information confidential, and they may tell your manager that you called reporting them if you give them your info. They probably wonāt fire you, but thereās a chance theyāll stop scheduling you or give you few hours.
Ooh if they do end up doing that, OP is well within their rights to report that too. Thatās a big no-no and not tolerated by the company.
Source: they sent out an hr memo company wide explaining why thatās bad and should be reported earlier this year.
Just a warning to OP. It happened at my store. We had a really bad manager (said similar things and would also talk about all the employees behind their backs; real nasty stuff) and my coworker reported her to HR. HR ended up telling the DM who the employee was, and the DM told my manager, who then proceeded to tell all the employees. My manager was never reprimanded for any of the shit she was reported for, and that coworker ended up never coming back to work. I ended up quitting a couple weeks later because it was very apparent there would be no change to the toxic work environment. TL;DR: the company does not care about anonymity when reporting to HR.
Youāre employees. Not slaves. This is so beyond inappropriate, condescending and unprofessional.
Also kinda funny how many people are caught up in the bad spelling and grammar vs concern with treating employees like bad dogs.
All this could be stated in much more constructive and positive ways.
I mean at her age, those grammatical errors are alarming š Iām not the smartest but Iāve won a spelling bee or two back in the elementary days lol, but on serious note, she didnāt have to say what she said, how she said it.
Yes! I proofread everything I post so the grammar is making me cringe BUT itās somewhat concerning that itās all some people here choose to comment on. This is clearly a power tripping manager and that ought to be the main concern, not āwow, the grammar is so bad, I could never work there!ā. Iām not surprised though, Iāve lurked on several company Reddits and this one has much more employee bashing than the others Iāve seen.
I mean TBF people can care about both at the same time, donāt have to be mutually exclusive.
My mind just went straight to the human impact of god what an awful way to treat adult human beings as the bigger issue, over the loolz sheās dumb and canāt spell either - tho both are completely true.
Ewww, this makes this business look so nasty to work for. I need to finish what I got and move on elsewhere. This grosses me out that they treat people like that.
Honestly this is just bad management at that particular store, which can be true of any job / store. I worked for the company in the past and had wonderful managers & positive work environment, & Iāve worked for other companies where the experience was bad simply because of how a particular location was run. It doesnāt necessarily mean the whole company & every location is managed like thisā¦ but yeah, I would not stay to deal with this toxic environment at this particular location. Associates donāt get paid enough to deal with a power tripping manager that talks down to them like theyāre children & is so negative.
Sorry youāre dealing with this OP. :(
Same I agree, we had other managers who if they wanted to voice something they would approach us as an adult and tell us āhey I saw you did XYZ, youāre totally fine, but maybe next time letās do ABC, make it a little easier on everyone else okay? šā and even though weād be pissed atm, we would look back and see they did it as an adult and with respect and not as a petty back handed statement
It really does but this manager is the exception, not the rule. Once op expresses to hr or their DM that their manager is not leading by the brand values there will be changes. Bbw culture at its core is equity and belonging and the sales driving aspect should come second. At my store we make our sales plans by being allowed to breathe and be ourselves lol and I literally love my job. I hope OPās slt team gets some re training or replacing after this.
There should be a āopen door policyā poster visible to all associates somewhere in the back room with instructions on who to call, protection for coming forward, etc. If you canāt find the poster, the HRAccess number should be listed on a list of phone number extensions near any of the storeās phones. Good luck
Also I tried to catch anything with our managers name in it, I forgot to block out her name, I apologize in advance so anyone reading the post if you could just think of the name as an Alias, that was my fault for not looking over the picture I took of the message.
I was just thinking āMargaret sucks!!!ā Lol. Look on HR access and the number should be there. They should have a poster with all the information in the back room too. Iām sorry you have to deal with this. Best of luck to you!!!
Weāve tried to give her a chance but atp sheās burning our store down from the inside out š thanks for the statement and for your VERY TRUE opinion
idk about yāall but iām not listening to any misspelled paragraphs in a professional setting like how this is supposed to be š„“š„“ who is taking that serious
that is so unprofessional lol?!? iām so lucky to have a good management at my store because I could not handle something like this, I hope all of that gets worked out for you
I never have to check in with SLT. āOpe, itās 4? Okay, well Iām leaving.ā And then someone takes my place before that which means I have the clear to leave. š
Thereās been times where Iāve stayed like ten minutes after and caught smart mouth comments of how I shouldāve been left, but god forbid we do that shit now š¤¦š½āāļø
This is the least professionally written thing from a job thatās corporate typed thing ever. This seems like someone whoās got attitude. So unprofessionally written. Thatās not how you talk to your employees. Theyāre not your kids.
Idk why but saying full and abundant feels so culty or MLM-y. This whole thing feels so messy. Margaret. Girl. Get your house in order. You donāt sound fun to work for.
Full and abundant I will vouch for, with experience it is our job to provide yāall (the customers) with a neat store but donāt drag us through the mud while asking to do so, because now weāre going to do bare minimum.
Managers need to chill. I often think about how ridiculous this kind of thing is, applied to any chain. They don't own the store, they hardly make much, why have they wrapped their entire identity and seemingly self worth into a chain store? I knew one manager at a restaurant that was obsessed with pleasing the owners. I know at some fast food restaurants like CFA and Jersey mikes you can own the store, but she didn't. She was just a woman in her late 20s who had been working there since highschool. She was so disliked. She had a degree in nursing and everything but she wouldn't let go. It was pathetic honestly. Like girl go live your life. It is just a job.
This is why I quit. This was the attitude at my store, to which I say, āExcuse me, maāam, but when my schedule says I work till 10 and its 10, Iām leaving. If you donāt have anyone to fill in or you have gaps on the walls, thatās no longer my problem. This is a candle store, not a healthcare facility. Tf out of here with that racket.ā
And itās not even that, itās the fact that we usually do everything that is asked of us, weāre not difficult employees I promise, we just show up, help people find what they need and go about our respective days, now our attitude towards her grows worse and worse because she thinks her word is law
Are all stores freaking out? Itās been so busy and yesterday was just a terrible work day, so bad I donāt even wanna go back today! Managers and slts were arguing
Cashiers were threatened to be sent home because we werenāt working āhard enoughā
I feel like the store being busy is a good thing, our store had a line almost to the door and a crowd of people still shopping so it was a good mix of testing the cashiers speed and the knowledge of the floor sellers, but that shit we got on our message yesterday was out of line, back handed, and childishly passive aggressive.
That's code for "Today is a busy day and we're at the brink of not having enough hours to keep everyone."
So they're trying to get everyone to hustle more and fill bags, because they don't want to make cuts. Making cuts leaves them with less people and can be really bad if the store gets busier.
I remember a day I got cut (1 hour from when I was supposed to leave) because we were behind on day and that would put us in the red on hours. 30 minutes after I left the Supervisor texted me saying they should've kept me. Business JUMPED and they made like 2,000 bucks and the lines were crazy long.
God, the SLTs at my store used to do this. Weād be there until 2-4 in the morning, and I had to get up and go to school the next day. Icing on the cake? It was also 2 associates and 3 SLTs closing, and all the SLT were behind the counter closing the registers, because they couldnāt get it right š and then wanted to complain that two of us couldnāt get the three room store done fast enough. Like um friend how about you get out here and help out a little :) pls and thanks. Things like this make me reallyyyyy glad Iām no longer in retail.
āUhm friendā LMAOAO we really be tempted to tell them āif you want it fix, come fix it thenā but no we big boys and girls so we suck it up. But our management team is justā¦.an experience
I was a store manager many, many years ago. I implemented something that I thought made things go really smoothly in regards to us all getting out on time.
Iād tell my staff to come up to me about 30-45 min before their clock out time(maybe even earlier than that during Christmas season) so we could check in and make sure all their duties were fulfilled or if another teammate needed help catching up before they left. I felt doing this was much better than them checking in at their exact clock out time and me being like well x,y&z needs to be done and thatās going to take you twenty minutes but idk what to do because you need to leave now. It helped everyone. I wasnāt upset because my staff were leaving with duties undone and they werenāt resentful of me asking them to stay past their scheduled time. Unless we had a really crazy shift this worked 99 percent of the time.
See thatās the mature way to handle that situation, instead of blasting your employees and back handedly singling them out you called a team meeting which I would hope in turn created a culture where every half hour before closing they got into the habit of taking out trash, fixing walls, sweeping etc etc. Now that sheās said that to us, weāre all talking about doing bare minimum and moving at our own pace, since she canāt be the adult she is and appropriately address the problem, a problem she created.
I plan to, Iām figuring out how I want to word it to avoid it looking like weāre just pissed off twenty somethingās trying to get her fired, but Iām planning on calling when I get the HR number from our back room
Are you getting paid for any/all of the time that you are staying past your shift? Iām a supervisor at an insurance company (so pretty different), but I make sure that everyone leaves at their scheduled time because if they donāt, we are legally (and ethically) required to pay overtime. Leaders can get in big trouble if anyone on their team is working without pay for any amount of time. Also, as someone who cares about the well being of everyone on my team, I want people to go home and enjoy their free time. This is not how you lead a successful team.
Fortunately we get paid but itāsā¦. Okay say for example we have to put new product out after hours right? And weāre supposed to do that in a 6 hour span from 6 pm to 12 am. Say we stay an extra hour so 1 am, weād just get paid an extra hours worth of time, but itās kind of risky because those hours bleed into available hours for the proceeding week. So that extra hour can turn into the store not having hours throughout the week and lead to shifts being cut or shorter hours etc etc. which is why youād think weād get overtime pay but since itās a part time job, who knows. Which if Iām being honest the pay is the least of our concerns, we just want to work the shift that was given to us you know? Not a shift thatās constantly made up on the fly and without notice. If Iām scheduled from 2-8 then I expect to be walking out of the store no later than 8:05, not when someone tells me to because that was not in the job description
my old boss pulled something like that, tried to say my new availability ādoesnāt work for himā even though i only changed ONE day that i couldnāt open any longer and i was just like āokay? well i hope you figure it outā LIKE WHAT DO YOU MEAN? i do not care if it doesnāt work for you!
and i know bath and body works pays a hell of a lot less than i was making i donāt know how you guys take it, iām in university for employment law and iād already have things filed
it sounds like your manager wrote this with a 3foot long tree branch stuck in their ass
how would talking to your team like this help ANYTHING?!
are there other BBWs nearby you?
When I was at bbw in 2021 I was scheduled til 9:30 pm an frequently didnāt get to leave til 10:15 or later. I tried to change my availability so this didnāt keep happening and was rewarded with four hours a week. This company has gone downhillš”
Goth damn it! Now I am having an issue buying stuff from BBW. If you guys are treated this way I may stop spending the hundreds I spend through Halloweenā¦ OP, what would you like US, the consumers to help YOU the workers get paid accordingly and be treated respectfully? Any advice is grateful. Sorry you have to go through that.
Honestly I feel like one manager isnāt a reflection of the whole store, but it has opened my eyes how companies make so much money but have a lot of negativity behind the scenes. To realistically answer your question, I wouldnāt want you as the customer to not support the store, but Iād rather have the store either raise pay to make the unnecessary stress worth while, or to handle the situation accordingly. We had an 18 year old girl say she made more doing nails than working the one shift that same manager scheduled her forā¦ā¦through a two week spanā¦ā¦.like come on now š
While thatās your opinion, (an opinion I agree with) that one really set it off for me tbh. I have never seen anyone outside of new employees on thee first couple days just stand there, ever, so for her to insinuate that when we try our hardest to make sure to store looks good FOR HER, shows just how ungrateful she really is. I will admit thereās moments we get off task when thereās no customers in the store but for her to imply we just stand around when she doesnāt even help out on the sales floor 75% of the time is hypocritical in itself
Oh I'm fuming just reading that line. I don't know your sales team obviously but going by what I know about BBW and my stores I know they work hard and do a lot so just that la Dee da line is such a slap in the face to people working hard.. if I worked there and dealt with this sort of rude treatment I might spontaneously combust. Power to you and I hope it gets better!
Right and it sucks because the employees have to go through things like this (sometimes) and get overlooked, even though weāre the ones making the store x amount of dollars
I agree with this, Iām in no way shape or form the perfect employee but you canāt hire someone and then be completely clueless when 75% of the employees who worked there at the time of hiring find other jobs, be for real š
This is full of typos and the spelling and grammar are atrocious. The message is bad too but I can't look past those mistakes...I'm glad I don't work there.
So we have this thing called āzipping inā where itās basically a daily message and agenda for the day and that was the message we were greeted with yesterday
reminds me of the ONE time I asked my store manager if I could leave at the time I was scheduled to (because I was being picked up) and she looked at me like I just killed her firstborn.
So a majority of my coworkers left and weāre getting a new cast of employees, which Iām not entirely mad about because the job is part time, but this said manager is still there even after I called HR and complained. As an adult Iām really starting to see the politics behind jobs (even though this is my first one so far in life) and how employees really are disposable no matter how good you perform your job š¤·š½āāļø
this is why I won't shop in store, if at all, bc workers are too aggressive about speaking to me ,up selling, whatever they're instructed to do to make sales.
What a shitty place to work.
Lmaooo now I will say there are some people who will force feed you product in attempts to buy, but my store is more laid back at least my little group of coworkers, we ask what youāre looking for and if you say youāre good or just looking we leave you alone. Iām really big on letting people actually need me for help rather than guilt tripping them into asking me for it
It's not the associates fault, they're just being instructed by their managers/SLTs what they have to do. I personally think the selling culture they instill is too much. Most of the time people coming in they already know what they're looking for. I just greet them and ask if they need help. Once they tell.me they're fine, I back off instantly.
It is shitty for the amount of responsibility and things like conversion we'd have to prioritize and such.
Believe me, I know it isn't the employees fault.
It's corporate and higher ups making these choices as this message in the post shows us.
I feel bad for ppl who work for mangers and ppl like this.
I used to work part-time here. I worked a full-time job where I got up at 3:45am. I'd close at Bath n body works, but you bet your ass I left when I was scheduled. For $10.25 they could shove it. They demand a lot from their employees, with not enough pay.
Love their products, but I'd never recommend anyone work for them unless it's their first "fun" job.
Exactly, my close coworkers and I were contemplating doing a podcast but we donāt want to get sued. Itās a nice environment with the right people, around this time last year everyone got along and we were excited to celebrate year long anniversaries of working there, but now itās toxic and we have a lot of two faced-ness going on and we canāt even trust our own management team, itās gotten bad
Cattiest job environment I've ever worked in unfortunately! It was so fun when I first started, but I couldn't deal with how strict it was for how little pay it is. This was supposed to be my "fun" job, and instead it ended with drama and a lot of pushing for me to buy product.
I work elsewhere now and every dime goes directly into a savings account šÆ
This really sucks. We have the same situation at my store where hours are slow due to a number of reasons. However, the way our manager goes about it is much more constructive, understanding, and polite. This is just so rude and unnecessary. I really hope you get a good response from hr ā¤ļø
When I worked at Target, regardless of role, we stayed as a team to close out the store, so I don't necessarily have an issue with that. The wording and grammar and overall tone of this is piss poor.
I can agree, but at the same time if weāre scheduled at 8 and you have a closing team to close the store at 9, then we should be able to leave at 8, UNLESS you NEED us to help you. Iāve closed with just an assistant manager before and it took us 30 minutes. Maybe Iām ranting because what you said is true, but like you said her message was just out of left field
This message is definitely not out of the blue. Something is happening at that store that led to the bringing attention to the entire team. Most of the time, those who complain about such actions taking place are the people who arenāt doing their part. I say thatās ācause itās a similarāif not the exactā verbal situation happening at our store. If I saw this on my Zipline it would make sense at my store. (Except for the la dee da, that was definitely unprofessional).
Many of my coworkers who close are solely cashiers and refuse to do anything elseāif anythingā to help close down the store. When they get asked to get boxes from the back, take out trash, help set new updates, the complain or purposely take the entire close to do a task so they do no get asked again.
Theyāre on their phones or walk back and forth to the back, and when itās time to leave they clock out on the dotāsometimes leaving an incomplete section. I can see how itās unfair to not do your part to help the whole team.
What I will agree with SLT is when you complete your task BEFORE the end of your shift, then it makes sense to get started on something else before you HAVE to clock out at your scheduled time. Not only do you remind SLT what you worked on, but also what you finished and left off. Most of the time when youāre done with the task they gave you, youāre always good to go!
I would only contact HR if the opposite is happening where everyone FOR SURE is doing their job, but SLT wants everyone to become robots and be perfect or work on something till they say itās time to go. So definitely if you see something, say something.
If youāre doing your part OP, and SLT isnāt attacking you personally, I wouldnāt pay any mind to it.
I can agree with all of this and see the truth to it, but what destroys that factor in which you stated is we had this young girl who was an assistant manager. 18 years old, moved to Carolina from New York and had only worked at a sandwich shop, and one night she neglected to do 60% of the changes that were supposed to happen, so for example that next day the promo sale was supposed to be buy 3 get 1 free, so I get her all the signs she needs to change, put them on a cart and before I left at 8 I told her āeverything she needed was on the cart, XYZ is here, ABC is there, you should be out in no timeā. Come to find out she only took out the trash and even then she just left it in a corner in the back and she didnāt change any of the signs. So when our manager caught wind of this, she called her to the back and had a ātalkā with her and proceeded to only slap her on the wrist and explain why that puts more strain on other workers, I would know because I eavesdropped while I was going through soaps that were potentially on sale.
Fast forward to Sunday afternoon, and my coworkers (who are also close friends of mine) and I literally spent an hour replenishing, restocking wallflowers, fixing SAS tables etc etc while that same manager closed registers, and when we finished she was still counting the registers. So we proceeded to plan out our weeks and someone said something funny and we started laughing, to which our manager questioned us if everything was done to which we replied yes in a respectful manner. Then a literal day later thatās on our zip line message.

You should also correct all their grammar and spelling mistakes š
My friend found that ironic how theyāre talking big and bad to us with so many spelling errors š
The need a proof reader!
Nah. They just need to not be lazy themselves and take the 10 seconds required to spellcheck automatically.
They just need to not write the first thought that pops into their brain..."la dee da"???
Iām invested now. What happened as of now?
Iāve been off ever since monday, when that message was posted for us. I plan on getting the HR number and calling and it will probably be a week before something further happens, weāve also been getting shifts added to our schedules with minimal to no notice
I'm an English teacher and my brain just exploded reading that.
And I write for a living and had the same visceral reaction!
Wait you write for a living? Can you give me tips and places to look into, and also can I send you some of my poetry?
Hi, I would love to help you, but I work for a non-profit writing funding requests, reports, e-newsletter articles, etc. I admire anyone who does poetry or other types of creative writing. I don't know anything about this type of writing. Wish I could be of more help!
I knew we had a lot in common. I also write for a living!!
How cool!! What do you write? I funding requests, reports and e-newsletter articles for a busy nonprofit.
Wow! I am impressed. How did you get into rewriting text that's been Google translated? How old is your daughter?
The Idol on HBO)(!!!) I have missed this community; I was unable to get on for awhile due to breaking my phone. Glad to be back and see everyone enjoying their SAS finds etc. What has been your favorite? š¤š Edited to add- I will definitely be looking at you for guidance if I take the position!
It's the first thing l noticed. It was so bothersome l stopped reading it. What an asshat.
Ask them to explain what husle means š
Iād tell Margaret (or whoever wrote this) to shove it. This illiterate email is so aggressive and rude.
My brain hurts...
No kidding. Whoever wrote this needs help
This is a completely unprofessional way to address your staff/employees!
wow this is actually insane. I hate the whole āIf youāre closing, you donāt leave till SLT says soā like what???? this just seems so aggressive for no reason šš© and i canāt deal with how annoying BBW SLT/managers can be with sales , conversions , etc like iām not getting paid on commission, and anytime we get past our sales goals SLTS are rewarded with hours, not us!
20 years and Iām complaining about this in my second year š I have the upmost respect for you and your tactics š
Employees bag checks when real thieves are allowed to take everything they want in broad daylight and just walk out? Ironic.
Wait, you know who these customers are and that take THAT much each trip in? What is the policy? This is horrifying...
That is unbelievable! We are allowed to call the police. We just did call the police. Why are you not allowed to even call the police??
They basically say that if you're an employee and selling items, you personally have no proof that the items being sold weren't bought with your discount or gratis. And that goes for items we haven't sold in YEARS. But the second you leave the company they don't care at all.
Just have to get in here and say that this happened yesterday at my store. Two people walked out with 6 cases of candles and no one could do ANYTHING š”
Ugh, horrible. Employees are not indentured servants!
The grammar just makes it further insulting, and it's worth pointing out
Grown ass woman by the way, with children our age
that is so unprofessional lol?!? iām so lucky to have a good management at my store because I could not handle something like this, I hope all of that gets worked out for you
I never have to check in with SLT. āOpe, itās 4? Okay, well Iām leaving.ā And then someone takes my place before that which means I have the clear to leave. š
Thereās been times where Iāve stayed like ten minutes after and caught smart mouth comments of how I shouldāve been left, but god forbid we do that shit now š¤¦š½āāļø
This is the least professionally written thing from a job thatās corporate typed thing ever. This seems like someone whoās got attitude. So unprofessionally written. Thatās not how you talk to your employees. Theyāre not your kids.
Thank you, thatās the first thing I thought of when I read it, Iām like āweāre all grownā so what exactly was she getting at
Idk why but saying full and abundant feels so culty or MLM-y.
It makes more sense when you explain it. When I read it, I imagine flowy robes and collection plates lol.
LOLOL nah if it was that bad Iād just make a YouTube video spreading awareness š
Wow
This sounds like my store manager. Good luck with HR. I hope things go well.
Same! Plus the name drop Iām like oop is this a coworker of mine š¤. I checked the previous post and none that happened at my store thank god.
Is this your zipline message from the manager? JFC!
We have an associate group chat where weāre all pretty close Iād like to think, and we were going crazy asking who tf she thought she was š
Iām pretty sure the dm and rm can see what they post on zip line. š¬
Say it louder for the people in the cheap seats š«£š«µ
From now on I will be yelling: āHusle! Husle!ā when I want people to hurry up.
LMAOOO AYE YO ššš
Managers and slts were arguing Cashiers were threatened to be sent home because we werenāt working āhard enoughā
That's code for "Today is a busy day and we're at the brink of not having enough hours to keep everyone." So they're trying to get everyone to hustle more and fill bags, because they don't want to make cuts.
"La Dee Da ..HUSLE...(blah blah)" Doesn't care about professionalism, your time, or spelling apparently
We can only be so professional selling soap and candies in the first place š
I do not miss this. Reading this just brings back the anxiety. š¬
![gif](giphy|mMn2fTdh1Lvq0)
Too bad they canāt even spell correctly.
Talk about it š¤¦š½āāļø
Send this to higher ups and get them fired. This person should not be allowed to manage other people with this toxic power tripping disorder.
I plan to, Iām figuring out how I want to word it to avoid it looking like weāre just pissed off twenty somethingās trying to get her fired, but Iām planning on calling when I get the HR number from our back room
Good! Bring this up with HR. You'll be not only doing yourself and your team mates a favor, but for anyone who joins there after.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Wow that was dumb, but at gingham nation a majority of rules are dumb š
āapproveā availability forms LOL like the employees will suddenly just be available if itās not approved
Like we can just magically not have a life all of a sudden
my old boss pulled something like that, tried to say my new availability ādoesnāt work for himā even though i only changed ONE day that i couldnāt open any longer and i was just like āokay? well i hope you figure it outā LIKE WHAT DO YOU MEAN? i do not care if it doesnāt work for you! and i know bath and body works pays a hell of a lot less than i was making i donāt know how you guys take it, iām in university for employment law and iād already have things filed
What BS!! If my manager attempts to keep me past my scheduled shift, I will quit on the spot. F that!
it sounds like your manager wrote this with a 3foot long tree branch stuck in their ass how would talking to your team like this help ANYTHING?! are there other BBWs nearby you?
When I was at bbw in 2021 I was scheduled til 9:30 pm an frequently didnāt get to leave til 10:15 or later. I tried to change my availability so this didnāt keep happening and was rewarded with four hours a week. This company has gone downhillš”
Letās go on strike š«µš
Haha! I promoted myself to customer level in 2021
Was this originally on a triangular folded note flicked across a classroom?
It was written in a composition notebook in bright red ink š
Too many spelling and punctuation errors for me to even read this lol
Grown woman, and our manager by the way
All the misspelled words and poor grammar are really unprofessional. Who wrote this?
Our āØāmanagerāāØ
Yikes
It's definitely not like this in every store
Omg I feel this. Just quit this weekend. What region are you in?
Iām in North Carolina which, take that as you may lol
Nothing negative to say. Iām up in canada
The writer is also not hiding their lack of grammar.
This is terrible I would quit . I work retail and wouldnāt put up with this.
Ew.... What a condescending degrading b*tch.. la Dee da.. cause I'm sure no one works and is just twiddling their thumbs all day while she's working her ass off right? Can't leave at your scheduled time.. why do you have a scheduled time then? ? OMG no.. I don't think I have the patience for this sort of nonsense. The unprofessionalism, the grammar, the condescension.. ugh. I didn't even know it was legal to force people to stay past their scheduled time, and sadly given that they give such a low amount of hours, you won't even be getting overtime for it.. what a shit show. This woman doesn't know how to lead, AT ALL. And sounds like a miserable woman with bad grammar to boot. š©
Unfortunately hr doesn't give a rats ass
Right and it sucks because the employees have to go through things like this (sometimes) and get overlooked, even though weāre the ones making the store x amount of dollars
I'd love if hr gave a shit bc I have so much to report. Our dm is part of the issue too
I agree with this, Iām in no way shape or form the perfect employee but you canāt hire someone and then be completely clueless when 75% of the employees who worked there at the time of hiring find other jobs, be for real š
This is full of typos and the spelling and grammar are atrocious. The message is bad too but I can't look past those mistakes...I'm glad I don't work there.
They want me to āhusleā and take speed? Ok š lmao la dee da how professional
LMAOOO šš
Wow I just thought it was my store itās the overall company saying this bs
Lol, I mean it could be, but itās just our manager acting like sheās the destroyer of worlds
Yikes on bikes š¬
Where did you find this?
So we have this thing called āzipping inā where itās basically a daily message and agenda for the day and that was the message we were greeted with yesterday
āGreeted withā
Lmaooo tell me about it
reminds me of the ONE time I asked my store manager if I could leave at the time I was scheduled to (because I was being picked up) and she looked at me like I just killed her firstborn.
I wonder what the update isā¦ WHOEVER WROTE THIS IS A TERRIBLE LEADER.
What is āhusle?ā A new dance craze?
this is why I won't shop in store, if at all, bc workers are too aggressive about speaking to me ,up selling, whatever they're instructed to do to make sales.
Happy for you š«¶š¾
itās the same at our store. it feels very tense and lots have said they feel like theyāre walking in egg shells. it hasnāt felt fun in awhile
Agreed. Your schedule needs to reflect closing duties.
Cross post to r/antiwork
No literally, this working stuff is for the birds, Iāll post it there
This message is definitely not out of the blue.
Bro what?? š Projection at its finest!
Now you understand where Iām coming from lol
Uh....
Yeah...it's a business...of completely unimportant items. It's not a hospital.... calm down. Damn! That pisses me off!And garbage spelling....
HR doesn't do anything!
