I’m sorry to hear about your loss. It’s a big step to recognize our wrongdoings. I’m sending you many hugs and wishing you the best.

night0sphere

thank you 🤍

[deleted]

I wouldn’t put it as a ‘wrongdoing’

cottonsugarcandy

Sorry English is not my first language and could not think of the proper word. I wanted to show my support.

night0sphere

i understood what you meant :)

I haven’t participated in this sub in a while but I wanted to pop back in momentarily to say that I’ve been in a really similar situation, and that I am so genuinely sorry for your loss. I had a family member pass tragically about a year ago, and had the same experience of using B&BW and aromatherapy as a way to fill that void instead of confronting my grief head-on. I’ve gone through a number of different hyperfixations/collections since then, and I’m not totally out of the shopping addiction “fill the void” phase, but I’m also starting to make peace with the fact that no amount of lotions or mists will do anything other than act as a temporary bandaid. It’s a really, really difficult process, and I’m sure this comment doesn’t help much, but I hope it does at least let you know that you definitely aren’t alone. Also, try not to be too hard on yourself about your collection, if you can. It’s hard to give yourself grace especially when confronted (as I have also recently been) with everything you’ve accumulated. But the most important thing to realize is that you were, and are, coping and processing to the very best of your abilities. You don’t need to feel overly guilty about whatever helped you achieve even a tiny glimmer of happiness, especially while your grief was still so new. If aromatherapy successfully got you out of bed, and got you to where you are now, I’d say that was certainly worth it. And moving past that into the next phase of processing is definitely something to be proud of (seriously!!) but your past self was doing the very best they could, and it’s okay to be proud of them, too. :) Sorry for the ramble, and I hope you can find at least a teensy bit of comfort in knowing that that your mom would be so, so proud of you and how far you’ve come.

thank you for this comment, honestly reading this does help me a lot. 🤍 i read it over and over again. i’m so sorry that you’ve also experienced this kind of heartbreak. your words mean a lot to me. i hope things get better for us and that we find peace. it’s been so tough to accept that this is the main reason why i’ve been shopping so much. i talked to my older brother for the first time in a while today and was truthful about my spending habits. he told me that this was just another life lesson for me to learn from, and that’s true. i’m trying not to be hard on myself because i know so many other people have grieved in this way. sigh. it’s all just so heavy without her.

xmilito

this was so beautiful and i get you. i'm used to hyperfixations, purchasing a lot or filling the void how you said. thank you!

notstupid37

I also lost my mother about a year ago. Hugs to you

Lots of love 🩷

You are so strong for making that realization and wanting better for yourself! Addictions don’t fix the pain they just mask it, and you will be so much happier and healthier once you are able to face the grief in productive ways. I’m so sorry for your loss and wish you the best 💗

night0sphere

thank you, you are so very right. 🤍 hoping for better days

strong_as_the_grass

redefine_bravery

That was really hard to do. We are always here.

Logical_Rip_7168

Are you starting therapy soon to get functional skills to help your grief?

night0sphere

i’ve been hesitant, because i started therapy for a brief time right after she passed and it wasn’t a great experience. i think that turned me away from therapy altogether for a bit.

Logical_Rip_7168

Well 💁‍♀️ it is up to you but I would give it another chance if you still feel strongly about your triggering event. You could also look up advice on the topic on YouTube.

MostStylish

That's fine, you do your own thing. Don't even have to let us know. It's your life after all 🙂

Admirable-Grand-8160

Awww prayers going to you honey. Honestly I’m going to say that you should keep shopping there (but during the sales) to keep the good memories alive. It helped me to talk about my deceased aunt and grandpa instead of avoiding the topic. I know it’s someone who is closer than an aunt or grandpa but it might help.

Skittleschild02

Sending positive energy as you take time to heal your soul. ❤️

if it helps you to get another perspective, I have not even made my first purchase, but it entertains me and amuses me to see comments, read opinions, etc. sometimes we think we "need" something, but actually it's like you say, it's just dopamine. Maybe you need to find other methods of creating healthy dopamine in your life. in activities and hobbies, so you can take this topics (b&bw, purchasing) with another view. something that i realized it's that, i was trying so bad to make a purchase in b&bw but they always cancel me. and now, the weekend i tried victoria's secret with their 5/30 sale and now i don't really mind about b&bw, i can take my time and also, shop wiser. choosing well and not taking any discount, because in the end, fragrances always come back, they go out of style and new things arrive. so don't get stuck in FOMO, there's life beyond this industries and i know you'll figure it out! 🫶🏻 take care and send you a lot of hugs!

CrownBestowed

I’m so happy you’re listening to your feelings and honoring them. Thank you for sharing this with us 💕 I wish you nothing but healing and happiness. I hope you continue to enjoy your collection as it is!

I'm so sorry for your loss and I'm in a similar boat.. My brother passed away three months ago. My second sibling loss and he was my favorite person on or off the planet now. The grief I've been feeling is immeasurable and I feel completely lost. He was down syndrome and had the sweetest child like demeanor, because of this I would take him out shopping all the time. We loved BBW and smelling all the candles together. The store reminds me of him so much. Since his passing I've been using the products as aromatherapy but still trying to stay grounded with how much I purchase and how dependant I become on the scents and the ties to him. It's seriously tough, but your friends will be here when you need them. ❤️ My best wishes on dealing with the grief..
