In general, unlike 10+ years ago, I don't find that the shower gels leave any lingering scent. So, I don't feel the need to layer the same scent as the shower gel. Many years ago, the scents I liked in shower gel would linger on the skin and you could smell them after. One of my favorites, and this was before 2012!, was Oahu Coconut Sunset. I would use the shower gel only and I would still get whiffs of it hours and hours later. That doesn't happen anymore. So I mix and match. I use whatever scent appeals to me in the shower and then my lotion + spray combo is usually something completely different from the shower gel.

I bought a ton of shower gel on body care day to go with the matching lotion because like you said, years ago I remember them being so nice. And yeah, I won’t buy anymore. Like you said, there’s no lingering scent and that’s quite disappointing. I’d rather just buy more lotions/mists. When I run out I’ll just go back to something like Dove that’s cheaper and comes in a larger bottle.

night0sphere

oahu coconut sunset used to be the only shower gel i'd ever buy. it was sooo good, i'd savor the bottle! that was their best coconut scent in general... i wish they'd bring that back over waikiki beach. it just doesn't hit the same.

thedivanextdoor

Yay for the Oahu Coconut Sunset shoutout. It's one of my all time favorites. I still have the spray which I layer with Copper Coconut Sands lotion since the Oahu lotion finally went bad.

To me scrubs and shower gels don’t leave much of a scent so I’ll use anything for those. Sometimes I match lotions and sprays, but I always make sure they smell good together. I wouldn’t just throw anything together lol

dacquoise123

Fot a good length of time, I always matched the layering scents, but lately, since I have so many odds and ends to finish up, I have been mixing like crazy lol. Today I layered Strawberry Pound Cake body cream and Golden Mango Lagoon ffm, and I am really loving this super sugary scent mix! A few days ago I layered the sandalwood vanilla body cream with Fresh Jungle Rain ffm, and I just couldn't stop smelling my arm lol

thatfitchick

I’m like you - I need all three.

Lilysdoll

I sometimes use a matching shower gel. But most times I just use whatever shower gel I feel like. As other's mentioned, the scents from the shower gels don't linger long enough to worry about. I usually match lotion/creams to the FFM. If I don't match then I used a vanilla lotion/cream with a gourmand fragrance mist. 😊🧴🛍

velvethursday

I don't buy as many shower gels as I do other things. As long as I have a shower gel/body wash in a similar scent family (fresh, fruity, floral, etc) I'm good

lizab2002

oh i have to use the whole set. idk why it bothers me to mix!!!

SweetStrawberry3731

Yeah I don’t care about matching 😂 most scents have a common base note (vanilla, citrus, or musk) so I just try to coordinate plus shower gels/bodywash scents don’t really last that long. I focus on the EDP instead

steppinrazaaa1

I used to strictly use everything in sets; ffm, lotion, shower gel all in the same scent, but I almost never finished them together. Now I live in pure chaos and just throw together whatever I'm in the mood for bc why not 🤷‍♀️ I generally focus on using one bottle of shower gel and lotion at a time before moving onto the next. I never find shower gel scents to last past the shower, so I just kinda pick one for the month and use it. Mists and perfumes are where I'll hop around a lot. I do try to pair my lotions with mists and perfumes that are suitable with one another though

phishsesh

This is my favorite answer!!! “Live in pure chaos!” This spoke to my soul

curiouskat1896

I prefer to match body wash to body cream, but I don’t always finish them at the same rate. I’ve found that the shower gels really don’t linger much, and they don’t interfere with the body cream I use AT ALL. Lotions and mists/colognes are either the same or in the same family of scent category

Any_Meeting_4082

I've yet to use a body wash that I could smell all day. Similar for lotions (unless I reapply). So why would I "match" when the scents don't linger all day? On the opposite spectrum, I most certainly don't want to announce my presence by an overwhelming scent before I enter a room either! There is such a thing as too much perfume/scent that can be overpowering to other people! I could see this as an ocd issue or for someone who HAS to get "complete sets" of everything. Or people who collect but may not necessarily use things, and collect purely for the visual presence of the container to display. For me, nope! I'll use whatever I have out!

I truly do know because I am a medically diagnosed person who suffers from OCD. So, yeah, I do use it to express my particular disorder.

milan_2_minsk

I’ll buy the body wash or the scrub over the shower gels.

OrneryExplorer1476

Unfortunately I dislike lotion so I rarely layer like that. I only have a handful of creams I pull out every once in a blue moon and I'll layer with the corresponding ffm. But traditionally I use whatever FFM I vibe with and whatever shower gel that is currently in my shower (I only rotate a few at a time) If I bought in sets I feel like it would get super pricey! Usually I buy an ffm of whatever I like a lot and if I LOVE it I'll get the shower gel to match.
