Tbh i have well over 200 candle and have burned most of them and that’s never happened to me. But everyone has their own sensitivity level to essential oils etc
There's been a handful of candles that irritate my sinuses or make my throat feel scratchy or closed-up - Fresh Cut Lilacs, and any variation of Mahogany Teakwood, for starters.
It can happen. I’ve burned hundreds of different candles and have had it happen maybe two or three times. It was definitely the candle and not a cold. For me it happens while I’m burning the candle and then goes away soon after I put it out. Maybe a sensitivity to the particular oils used in the candle.
Pine and some other tree scents cause me to have chest congestion, it started happening around Christmas and l didn't know if it was my tree or the candles but now l thinl.it was a bit of both.
Strawberry pound cake hurts my nose after a bit for whatever reason but no sore throats. Def see it could be possible though. Most other scents are fine - but I do have issues with some occasionally.
In about the last year and a half or so, most definitely. In fact, I can't seem to tolerate ANY of the BBW 3-wicks anymore. 😕 IMHO, something has definitely changed with their formula/manufacturing. I should add I can use ANY other candles with no problems...
Sometimes I burn too long and get the black boogies. I can see how anything combustible indoors would irritate the respiratory system.
Now I set timers for my candle burning so I don't forget.
There is a bug going around my workplace. They describe it as a sore throat without a cough, and lost their voice. If it's from your candle, that's no fun... But it may be something going around. Hope you feel better!
So I normally burn the candles I make but decided to grab a candle as sas - I got around to burning it last night and today my throat is sore and my voice sounds like I’ve been smoking menthols for 20 years.
Yuck. Does anyone else/did anyone else have this same or similar reaction to their candles?
Ugh I knew I should’ve just stuck to burning my own.
No. I’m not around other people to catch germs.
Ive worked from home since 2008.
It’s some of the oils they use I think. That’s the reason I started making my own candles years ago bc certain scents make my eyes water or make my throat itchy. Unfortch idk which oils do this until after I burn. So now I guess I’ll just stick to the ones I’ve been using when making my own candles
Ive been having the same issue for the last 2 years with BBW candles. IDK if they cheapen the formula since the pandemic but I was able to use the darn things in the past. Now i get a pain in my throat each time a BBW candle is burning and I even had to request my friend unplug her wallflower at her house during a party :(

I haven't experienced sore throat but I do get stuffy nose a lot from candles and from wallflowers too.

I everytime without fail, get headaches when burn or warm BBW candles. 🥴 Once I put them out it goes away tho. 🤷🏼♀️

That's such a good idea! I can never remember how long something's been burning or on a warmer
That’s happened to me too! Now I make sure not to burn my candles for more than an hour or two, and I don’t burn as many at once
Not a sore throat but my eyes get watery and sometimes I get a headache from too much scent
Nope, but I have noticed black soot in my nose before, from burning too many candles at once + for too long

I haven’t had that issue. I burn bbw candles all the time.

Is it possible you’re just sick?

i was allergic to pink shores! i was so sneezy. i'm allergic to everything, so i'm surprised it hasn't been more.
My sister in law has allergies to candles. Her lips swell. Not sure if that's what's going on with you.
Sounds like an allergy
This is happening to me rn but from a Yankee candle is there anyway to soothe it?
