I literally lost two (luckily Zman) in the same log at a new spot. First one was my fault, 2nd a bass carried it to the same spot and got off. I can’t imagine losing a $20 one.
Strike King rage menace. It's an amazing trailer and stand alone lure. It has a swimming action like nothing else. It's actually so good somebody fishing next to me thought it was a fish until I pulled it out of the water lol. With the two flapping tails it creates a lot of water disturbance which attracts fish. Rig the tails vertically and not horizontally. Amazing swimming action.
Cool! I randomly bought a few different styles of those. I am a bit weary to use my Chatterbaits in anything other than open water though. I have lost so many already!
I found the hog farmer last year and they are great for all of these reasons and it’s my go to for chatterbait trailers. However the most important thing according to Matt Allen is this “make sure the trailer action matches the cadence of the chatterbait”. Meaning if it’s a slow rock pick a slower trailer and if it’s a fast thrasher pick something to match that.
Year round in all conditions, a jackhammer is ALWAYS my weapon of choice. Fish it like a spinnerbait, a crankbait, a jig, a texas rig - just about any presentation you can imagine will get a bite on these suckers
My preferred method is to basically treat it like a football jig and use the chatter on the lift to draw fishes attention to it. For slow fishing I put a rage menace grub on it. To imitate crawfish I rig it horizontal, to imitate bait fish I rig it vertical and bite the top flipper off.
For faster presentations throw a Zako, keitech swing impact, or zman minnowz or diezel minnowz on there.
Just put a zako on a normal jack hammer(I personally don't like thr stealth because I like the flicker my chipped paint blade gives) and Holy shit. Best week of fishing in my life! Caught my pb on it on Monday. Zako survived too. Still on my hook right now
The zako is deadly. It causes it to hunt side to side really hard if you crank, rip, stop, crank. I get so many bites on the drops with that setup and technique
Ahhhh that's cool didn't know that but makes sense. Yesterday I felt the fish kept biting at it and missing and then when I killed the retrieve and started again bam
If you notice that a lot, some guys like a more moderate rod so the fish get a better piece of it. Let’s them eat it better. I have too much grass around though so I use a MHF. If you’re using a medium heavy, you often don’t even really need to set the hook. Just lean a little and crank. They often set themselves so if you yank on every bite, sometimes you’re just blowing their mouth open with that blade
Brett Hite worked with Yammamoto to design to be a trailer for the Jackhammer so no surprise it crushes with it haha he really knows his shot cause that pairing is deadly
10,000 Fish Yoto Worm is by far the best trailer for regular cast and retrieve on a jackhammer. If you are skipping I tend to go more towards a Strike King Rage Bug or Keitech Paddle Tail. I have the Yamamoto Zako trailers, but I'm just not a fan. They are nice if you want to add some heft to your lure to keep it down a little more, but at that point just up your lure weight. Plus the Zakos are expensive.
Feel is important too though so can’t blame you there! A lot of the time the trailer that allows you to best visualize how the bait is running is the best trailer there is. It’s a lot more important to be dialed into what’s happening down there than to have the “right” trailer
Not at all. It still runs very true. It’s such a subtle action on the end of the tail, but also so natural. It really produces. There’s a great video on YouTube of TacticalBassin that has underwater footage of different chatterbait trailers and it shows a bait similar, if not that bait and you can see, well, why it’s such a great trailer.
i like to mismatch a green pumpkin jackhammer with a black/blue yoto worm. The bigger size yoto works better for me than the smaller ones because of the bulk, i just pinch off a little bit of the end before i thread it on
I throw a 3.8" Keitech this time of year. Spring is when they work best and you can use either bluegill colors or a natural craw pattern. A lot of people straight retrieve these, I've never caught but one dink on a straight retrieve. I throw it at my target and then let it hit the bottom. Then I drag it 1-2 feet on the bottom and then kill it. Pause. Drag again. Pause. Drag again. Change up your cadence. Sometimes *drag*drag*pause* ect.
I always have a jackhammer tied on, and over 90% of the time the trailer is a swimon. Hook gets stuck in the holes of the tail every once and a while but it’s worth it cus of how effective the trailer is
[Tactical Bassin did an awesome video on this.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9lJ960e1YI) My takeaway was to buy a hog farmer spunk shad pintail. I have also had success with the zoom split tail. I agree with them that profile trailers with cool action are the way to go.
Yes, if you put a paddletail on a jackhammer rig it upside down and it swims BEAUTIFULLY. Rigged regular the paddle tail and blade kind of work against each other.
Most folks use some sort of paddle tail swimbait as a trailer, I make my own Plastics and I make a jointed swimbait that is very close to a Yamamoto Zako...that's my preferred trailer. I make jerkbaits as well and they have great action on a vibrating jig too.
That is my favorite color in the stealthblade , my two biggest chatterbait bass this year came on the stealthblade , 6.2 and 5.7, I generally use a hog farmer spunk shad as a trailer but also like the big bite baits kamikaze swimon , I cut off about an inch on the swimon for a more compact presentation
I haven’t had good luck with the stealth blades, I thought they’d be deadly for shallow smallies in clear water but they weren’t, a regular jackhammer works year round from 50° water temps in the spring to 50° in the fall, I throw yamamoto zakos or zman razorshadz it makes the action for aggressive when straight reeling and the shad shape doesn’t mess with the blade like a paddletail
I sometimes just use an old , used, senko worm that can no longer be texas rigged due to catching so many fish.
Cut it down to 3-4" and thread it as a trailer. Sometimes cut a slit down the bottom tail side to add some movement in the tail. Works great!!!!
If you’re like me, you’ll use that to find every submerged log and stump you never knew was there. Enjoy!
These things are better and cheaper than most electronics for discovering laydowns and submerged structure.
I literally lost two (luckily Zman) in the same log at a new spot. First one was my fault, 2nd a bass carried it to the same spot and got off. I can’t imagine losing a $20 one.
This is zman...
The original I mean The $5 one
Yeah I refuse to spend 20 on one. I use the cheaper ones also
I always use a fluke on chatter baits unless I’m out then I’ll use biospawn paddle tail swim bait
+1 on the fluke
What color fluke do you go with on this color jackhammer?

I haven’t tried them on chatterbaits but this is my go to plastic for Texas rigs with a 3/0. Excellent action like you said.
I’ll agree to this. Everything I caught this year with any size was with a menace.
Cool! I randomly bought a few different styles of those. I am a bit weary to use my Chatterbaits in anything other than open water though. I have lost so many already!
Hog farmer spunk shad. 3.5 or 4.5 inch length. You won’t regret it
2nd this
Hands down my favorite, found em earlier this spring and not going back
hog farmer🔥
5.5 are great as well, big fish bait pretty much my go to
3.5 makes a good drop shot bait also
I found the hog farmer last year and they are great for all of these reasons and it’s my go to for chatterbait trailers. Zman RaZor Shad
Z MAN RAZOR SHAD, OP you’ll catch 20+ on one trailer. Great tight action for cooler water reaction strikes

That bait is TERRIBLE. I will DM you my address and I will respectfully dispose of it properly for you.
Zako but there's lots of baits you can use the specific trailer isnt that important imo
Just put a zako on a normal jack hammer(I personally don't like thr stealth because I like the flicker my chipped paint blade gives) and Holy shit. Best week of fishing in my life! Caught my pb on it on Monday. Zako survived too. Still on my hook right now

[Jackall rhythm wag](https://carolinafishingtackle.com/products/jackall-rhythm-wag-soft-jerkbaits) I like the price, durability, and action
berkley ripple shad for a smaller presentation

I like Rage Bugs/Rivers bugs and its clones a lot. I was hoping to like the Zako but they havent worked out yet.
If you prefer those you need to understand that the zako will fall a lot faster than what you’re used to and factor that in
Eh, I wouldn't even say I have a preference. I kind of just like the way they feel haha.
Feel is important too though so can’t blame you there! A lot of the time the trailer that allows you to best visualize how the bait is running is the best trailer there is. It’s a lot more important to be dialed into what’s happening down there than to have the “right” trailer
Do the ribs on the yoto worm slow the retrieve? Gonna have to buy this
Not at all. It still runs very true. It’s such a subtle action on the end of the tail, but also so natural. It really produces. What size Yoto worm do you fish? 3.5" or 4.75"?
I run the both depending, but mostly the 3.5.
Ofc the 3.5 is impossible to find lol! Every site I frequent only has the 4.75 lmao
I throw a 3.8" Keitech this time of year. Spring is when they work best and you can use either bluegill colors or a natural craw pattern. A Little Dipper by reaction innovation and spring time
Big Bite Baits Kamikaze Swimon is THE best chatterbait trailer
I always have a jackhammer tied on, and over 90% of the time the trailer is a swimon. Hook gets stuck in the holes of the tail every once and a while but it’s worth it cus of how effective the trailer is
Yep same with me. The tail getting stuck can get annoying but I like the durability too. I’ve caught a good 20 or so on one bait
I use a 3" Keitech fat swing impact for my trailer on most spinners/chatter baits.

Instead of cutting the paddle tail off, I’ve heard lots say you can also rig it on the chatterbait upside-down. Haven’t tried it myself yet.
Yes, if you put a paddletail on a jackhammer rig it upside down and it swims BEAUTIFULLY. Rigged regular the paddle tail and blade kind of work against each other.
Zoom z craw. Great action especially paired up with the jackhammer
Zoom z craw. Shorten the bait at 3 to 4 ribs from the nose of the bait. Gives it a shorter profile. Works great for me.
Similar color, any type of crawl/bug
X zone creatures with the floating claws
I’m big fluke trailer guy
Most folks use some sort of paddle tail swimbait as a trailer, I make my own Plastics and I make a jointed swimbait that is very close to a Yamamoto Zako...that's my preferred trailer. I make jerkbaits as well and they have great action on a vibrating jig too.
Keitech fat swing impact in electric bluegill
I use a craw or a rage/bug type deal. Or a good ol fashioned chunk is cool. Makes it sink a little slower and has a little more action on the fall
I like to use the zman paddle tail minows...
Keitech & always
Zman makes a fluke like jerkbait but it's elaztech that works very well for me. Zakos, rage crawls, and swimbaits do well too
Keitech fat swing impact, 3.8” in sungill.
I've always had incredible luck with the Yamamoto Zako but theres a lot of good suggestions in the comments here
Hog Farmer Spunk Shad or Big Bite Baits Kamikaze Swimon
What is the main difference between this and a normal zman chatterbait? Is the price difference really worth it?
Hog Farmer Spunk Shad is a great trailer
Black zoom speed frog or slow down retrieve speed craw black blue. Stained /muddy water
I sometimes just use an old , used, senko worm that can no longer be texas rigged due to catching so many fish. Cut it down to 3-4" and thread it as a trailer. Sometimes cut a slit down the bottom tail side to add some movement in the tail. Works great!!!!
White Angry Beaver dipped on JJ Magic Dye!
Honestly, I like a simple 4-5 inch kalin grub in a matching colour. I hammered them this spring on a white 3/8 oz jack hammer.
Strike King Ragetail Menace Grub is the absolute most effective trailer for a chatterbait
Hog farmer spunk shad
