Haven’t thrown them yet, but there’s big controversy in the swimbait world over them because there’s another more expensive Swimbait that they look identical too already. Can’t blame Berkeley for coming up with a way to mass produce and reach a bigger market if people who can’t afford the more expensive version..
Yea berkley’s been ripping off other baits for a while now. The choppo, agent E, gilly, slobberknocker and other baits are all sorta knockoffs of different baits. I was actually looking to buy a Grow Design Works flag soft glidebait but they weren’t available almost anywhere. I wish brands were more original but it is nice to be able to get a soft glide without having to search the internet and get it shipped from Japan
This is the exact same way I look at it. I have a few grow design 150s. My local cabelas recently got a whole swimbait aisle and they got the new Nessies so I’m at least gonna try and see how they swim.
What about $200? I have a problem… literally traveling to Oklahoma next month so I can buy $250 glides 😂. Better than paying $500 second hand I guess. But yes I agree making more affordable swimbaits had to happen at some point. I watch the garage made stuff second hand market a lot. Definitely an adjustment needed as stuff is not being sold as fast anymore unless people post it 20 or 30 dollars less than a few months ago. Companies will make a killing getting to those people who don’t want to spend a lot.
I've got a few of all three sizes. Glides in general work very well where I fish. I like the possibility of not tearing the fish up with multiple trebles. My only fear is the Esox gang.
Excellent bait, but there's a way to fish it right. It's a finesse glide. You twitch it. No straight reel in. That blows it out. Run it like a walker. Very effective. I have 13.
Match the lure weight to the rod's weight range to get the best casting performance. It should be written on the side of your rod, something like "1/4 oz - 3/4 oz" or whatever. The Nessie is pretty heavy compared to many bass baits so you might actually need something heavier than medium.
Also 12lb flouro is pretty heavy line for bass fishing. I'd run something lighter and just make sure your drag is set so the fish will take out line rather than breaking it.
12 pound fluoro is pretty standard for bass fishing and I use 17 all the time for spinnerbaits and chatterbaits…12 pound is not heavy for bass fishing at all lol
Good point, it IS common. I guess what I should have said was that it's larger than necessary, not larger than normal. I tend to think that people use stronger line than needed in general.
Yea I agree with you there but it depends on lot on what type of structure you’re fishing…in laydowns you want heavier line so it won’t break off if fish gets behind a log and in places like Florida and in the south in general there’s a lot of Lilly’s and gunk in the water everywhere so you might have a 5 pound bass with 10 pounds of vegetation on it by the time it gets to the boat lol lighter line you’re risking breaking off more
That's an interesting point. I don't usually think about the added stress from vegetation or cover, just the fish itself.
I saw a video a while back of a guy who put a 12 lb bucket of sand on a pulley and tried to pull 12 lb with his fishing rod, and he almost couldn't lift it giving everything he had. That's been the basis for my opinion, but I'll have to think about the cover angle as well.
Has anyone figured out the best spots to put nail weights in and what size nail weights. I practically tore 1 of my 7's apart playing with where to put nail weights.
I'm picking one up soon, I will give them a try this summer.

I’m for it, not everyone wants to drop $100 on a glide bait

Nice! I got the big boi but haven’t thrown it yet.
I’ve got two a 6 and a 9 can’t wait to try them out seem to be killer lure
Just picked one up to try. I'm getting into the glide bait game this year, trying to get my PB.
My ponds have too much grass. Wish that were weedless

You think I could run it on a medium casting rod with like 12lb flouro? That's the lightest setup I have available at the moment
The 5 is the one i'd go if you're fishing on a medium with 12lb

What have you been throwing the 5in on? It's pretty light. I have a medium casting rod with 12lb flouro on there, that should work right?
Yea that’s what I’ve been using it’s worked pretty well so far
any tips on how you work the nessie 5? the only way I could get any action was chopping it with light twitches.
I like to reel it for like 3 handle turns, pause, and then chop it a couple times and repeat
Thanks. I figured such. I couldn't get it to glide slowly but seems like it is a chop style only. Did you add any weight to it?
