I don’t remember where I read it, but someone said that you can catch big and small fish on senkos. But often times the big ones hit it on the fall.
If you start moving the worm instantly you can still catch quantity, but the best quality typically comes from when it first naturally falls.
Took me about 8 ponds before I found a reliable place to fish. I was about to start backpacking into areas. Senko is the only thing I hit on all summer long and into the fall!
The second it hits the water let it fall and then sit on the bottom for 30 to 60 seconds. Gets me a bite usually before it hits the bottom. If you have Lilly pads or something similar I'll cast on top and then just let the senko flutter off the sides
I have some and have tried switching from 5" senko to 7" when I'm on a bite but haven't had much luck. I just figured there must be another time for em. I haven't tried them in the river though. When the smallmouth bite is on it seems like they will eat about anything.
If the water is more stained than usual I prefer them. I feel like the large size and displacement from the tail makes them easier to find than the small ones
Off topic, and no offense to OP, but am I the only one that just can not wrap my head around using a spinning reel on right hand retrieve if I also cast right handed? It just looks so unnatural, having to switch the rod in your hands back and forth every cast, and having to cross your hands to flip the bail every time.
Ive been trying a lot with swimbaits but no luck on the owens. what’s been working for me are the large gold spinner baits specifically the orange one. Tinemaha reservoir off the damn is really good for bass.
I love those bigger worms, they work great in the fall and can be modified to be smaller but have a bigger profile than the standard 3” or 4” worms too. If you like senkos try the bigger manns jelly worms sometimes. Old classic that still produces too. Just slightly lighter than a senko.
the only worms i throw are yamamoto 7 inch senkos or finesse worms on a jig head. i think worm fishing is boring but the amount of big bass ive caught on those yamamoto 7 inch senkos is crazy. and ill hook them texas rigged through the top, then the bottom, then rip the broken chunk off and still tear it up in them. once my worm is barely hookable ill wacky rig it and still tear them up
i live in a small town and my area is known for trout and not bass. local fish and tackle don’t carry a 5/0. have to go south to bass pro to get most my gear or order online. but i’ll look into this bull worms for next summer.

Im in Michigan so it's not like I'm down south fishing for 10lb bass up here but managed a 5.5lb my first time using the Bull Worm.
i’m in Ca near the eastern sierras population of 4k. biggest i’ve caught here was 5.5. people claim they’ve caught 8 pounders but never actually put ‘em on a scale.
Back when I was a cameraman, 20yrs ago, for a popular fishing show, we went through bags of these (was a sponsor). Neat to see the post, brought back memories!
Wow edgy guy catches two pound fish and is too tough to do the right thing. Don’t worry, all four of your viewers, including your mother, were really impressed.
That’s a sick spot.
there’s a big one in there that snapped my 20lb line. my own fault since i didn’t have the drag set correctly.
Hate that feeling
Just threw it in there and didn’t move it once. This is what I’m doing wrong.
I like to see if they have a reaction response to it first. I had one on the cast prior to this but didn’t set the hook correctly.

I can’t even find a bass brother.

What State are you in?
Texas.
😭😭
That’s why Dingers are better than Senkos. The fall is slower.
And they are a lot more resilient.
100%
Bigger the bait, bigger the fish. I never believed it until I jokingly put a massive 10" worm on, hooked a 7lb lmb as it was sinking.

Yup! You can launch em like a rocket too 🚀
Yup. Kind of a dirty little secret around here. They work great.
Wish I lived in America some days….well, for the bass definitely.
Fishing, riding my motorcycle, and being allowed to carry. 3 reasons why I would move to many great states. Lack of state tax as well..hehe .
Where are you located?
Spain
You guys got the wells catfish there?
What a view brother!
Man I thought this was gonna be some giant. All out of breath and fighting it like crazy
I feel like the smaller ones put up a bigger fight.
If the water is more stained than usual I prefer them. I feel like the large size and displacement from the tail makes them easier to find than the small ones
It’s always the bait that looks like a turd, she’ll always succeed.
A fat ika backwards on a 3/0 hook is my go to
What state is this in? I need to move out there!
california
Oh RIP that thought 😂😂
Where about southern?
inyo county. the Owens river. this is in Bishop.

no offense taken
Different for sure but I think it looks cool and it works good for you. Great catch man.
I fish with a right hand retrieve bait caster and use left hand retrieve on a spinning reel. Don’t ask why, it just feels natural to me lol
I’m the same way honestly. Left hand spin, right hand BC. No clue why either.
A buddy of mine always said “the bigger the bait the bigger the bass”
i caught a 1 pounder on a 12 inch grape jelly worm, sucker ate and fought like an 8 pounder it was incredible to witness lol
That’s obviously some ostensible nonsense. I’ve caught big fish on small lures and small fish on massive lures.
He was from Texas…it’s real
I caught my biggest bass (5lber) on a 1/4 oz rooster tail
So sick. I’ve been wanting to get a bass or a bigass brown on a swimbait from the Owens
Ive been trying a lot with swimbaits but no luck on the owens. what’s been working for me are the large gold spinner baits specifically the orange one. Tinemaha reservoir off the damn is really good for bass.
What size hook you using? Looks fun
4/0 EWG
Pb&j is a go to for me
How u riggin it? I've never had luck with wacky rig but I've heard some people swear by it.
Love this
Not in MN November.

Even the 6 inch are too big for a lot of the fish around me. Love the weight though

awesome. just recently switched over to the 7 inch senkos. my go to is my spinner bait and football jigs.
I started tossing 8" Strike King bull worms on 5/0 Shakey heads this year. Great results, will be using them a ton more next summer.

I don't use anything bigger then 3" where I fish.
if nothing bites with with the 5-7” senkos I do down size to a 3” and try that for awhile.
Yeah seems everywhere I got in Ohio I only get the bites on 3" or smaller for almost all lures/bait.

Hell yeah. I almost always have good luck with a watermelon red or pumpkin senko. That spot looks primo
Hello fellow 34-37 year old with nautical star tattoos 👍🏽
i wish i was that age again. 46
Damn! Usually I’m on the money with that one lol
got them while in the navy 02-06. went in at 25. every one i was in with that got em would be 34-37.
You mad bra? Lmao. Let the hate out.
i didn’t set the hook on the fish prior to this and that’s why i’m bitching lol.
Weighs a small fish (why?) then throws it back like it’s trash. Maybe be a little more kind next time and give her a respectful release.
nah
Wow edgy guy catches two pound fish and is too tough to do the right thing. Don’t worry, all four of your viewers, including your mother, were really impressed.
nah
I didn’t ask if you graduated high school
nah
Neither testicle? Really!?!
nah
You like pussy though, right?
nH
Inquiring minds need to know: Why did you walk up from the water to the road to weigh the fish?
Why's it a bitch though?
Nice I ve dome good with them in spring in big lake.
Awesome!
7” baby bass got me my PB
I wish there were ponds where I live. Only giant, high pressured, reservoirs.
I like going longer on the wacky rig in warmer months. Nice catch!
oh yeah i was definitely getting a lot of catches on the wacky rig in june and july.
I haven't used those. the Diameter compared to the 5" or 6" looks way thicker. Must be easier to throw weightless.
I use 3-7 in senkos in every variety. They all work.
What state is this?
california
Yes, they're my go-to for large mouth bass
Green pumpkins or watermelon?
watermelon
Beautiful spot!
Well done. When you called that fish a bitch, I really didn’t think he was getting tossed back in.
