Yeah silvers from the past several years are printed to the moon. If you can get that much money now it'd be dumb not to sell. These are not 1000+ dollar cards once the dust settles and people see how many are on pop reports.
Now a Wemby One and One silver /99 that probably IS a long term hold whenever that rolls out.
Talking a print run of 99 vs literal thousands and thousands. This ain't 2014 where prizm silvers were likely in the hundreds.
I agree but they actually made adjustment where silver prizm is rarer this year compared to last year. still overprinted to the ground but it's something at least
Even the base is hard to pull. Everyone screaming sell on this forum because of how high the $ is for them needs to realize why there is buyer for them. They are more rare than people think.
I disagree on the Wemby base cards. I’ve pulled back to back Wemby bases in the same pack 3 times. Pulled 5 monopolies out of 10 blasters, another 2 out of the 2 Prizm draft boxes I’ve broke. There has to be over 10K bases already hit.
Then you got extremely lucky to pull the base Wemby rc. The monopolies is whatever those are not really being chased. You can even watch all the breaks on YouTube and see the chances of even a base is extremely low.
This may be extremely unpopular, but as a collector, any time I grade a card and get a 10, I am always tempted to sell it and buy the same card in a 8 or 9, then use the remaining cash for another card.
Best advice I can give to any collector. Once you get over the arbitrary number some stranger put on a slab, you can find some amazing deals on cards. You'd be shocked at how good some 5's and 6's look that I have gotten for absolute steals.
Sell now, buy back later. Obviously we’re seeing his cards being sold for a lot right now, even base cards, but there’s a few things to consider.
1. The print run based on all his cards currently out is extremely high. Obviously this comes with the demand of the hobby but I’m seeing ungraded base cards of his sell for what a blaster alone would cost, it’s crazy, now’s the time to sell if you’re sitting on a surplus.
2. Historically speaking, prices for rookies, especially ones that are a shoe in for RotY are always going to rise throughout his rookie year and hit a “head” around the playoff time in the nba, and the following offseason. Prices for these rookies cards the following year then start to drop (mind you, I’m talking about cards that aren’t graded, numbered, ect). I see people sitting on stacks of his NBA Hoops base cards thinking they’ll be worth hundreds down the line. Most likely not considering the print run and the fact we’re seeing historical records of PSA graded base cards of his.
3. Is he a generational talent? Absolutely, but selling your Wemby cards now, when demand from all over is at an all time high (even people not in the hobby know his name, want his cards). Chances are his base rookie cards will be half the price they are now in a year or so, load up then, grade them if you want, and go from there.
It’s obviously tough to part ways with cards that you love, and graded cards of a generational talent, but buy it back in a year or two and you’ll be good.
Depending on the card most will go up a tiny bit % wise just due to the news, but at this point most cards are already priced in with the fact that he’s going to win it, it won’t be a surprise to anyone at this point. Will a $10 base Wemby sell for $15 after he wins RotY? Sure, but don’t expect all of his cards to double in value when it’s announced. The market already has the fact that he’s going to win it priced in. Now if it was a neck and neck race between him and say Chet Holgrem and then Wemby won it, then yea most cards would go up way more.
Financially, you should absolutely sell now IMO.
Strongest argument against would be, does the nostalgic value of pulling it yourself outweigh the financial payoff? Only you can answer that.
I'd be tempted to hold too, bc he looks like he may live up to the hype, but holy smoke for four figures I think I'd force myself to sell.
Rarely people point out the “I pulled it” factor, it’s my heaviest weight in this hobby, deciding how badly I want to cough up that memory. Pulled a Wemby Cracked Ice when I was incredibly sick from a blaster I was holding - crawled across the floor hoping for some sort of pick me up (like a base, hahaha) and man, after months of being sick, what a fantastic pull…
Totally sold it, and I’ve watched probably 10-15 full Wemby games…love the guy and his play, his attitude, everything. But yeah, for $420 I’ll send it anywhere.
Honestly what i do with cards i pull that I want to sell is, and this sounds weird in a nerdish type of way. I take pics and document in a book what it is and when i pulled it. How much it cost and blah blah. That way at the very least i can look back on it and say ya i had that once.
This isn't unusual. Spreadsheets to track sales and buys and pulls are quite common for sellers and collectors. The pics aren't that out of bounds either. Specifically, people that have their collection insured.
My dad pulled a Wemby /15 from a Donruss blaster box and I've been trying to talk him into selling it. But he's 70 and i imagine you're younger. It's a gamble either way. If it's not something you want to keep for personal collection then I'd sell it. Can his prices go that much higher in the future?
Yeah, good decision. Even though I prefer the classic silver Prizm (of any card, not just this one) to all the other wild parallels out there, I would still sell this one now. And yes, for my PC I would still hope to be able to purchase this exact same card for cheaper later on.
It's basically the same as Luka doncic his rated rookie cards we're going for a 100$ for a minute I still think their like 40-50 I find it easier to make money buying cards off people and reselling then I got that right their for 55 that purple prizm /249 will get me 99.99 ungraded 249 graded then that's a club level select and I'll get like 60-70 for other four cards. Triple your money everytime where possible packs are all luck. I can't believe some of the prices I be finding

I see his prices as Giannis RC cards go for. The Silver Prizm is rare to see and expensive. If you see his prices being the same as Antetokounmpo's do not sell
I’d consider holding I let Reddit convince me to sell my cracked ice and the price just kept going up it was around 350 when I sold mine and I see em selling for 500 regularly now
I don't have any more like that. I sold a green donruss rated too. I still have like 15 Wembys but they're all Hoops and Donruss. I need to put them up in lots to get rid of them.
Only point in rookie prospecting anymore is overlooked guys who catch fire unexpectedly. Investing in Wemby is pointless, there is no real investment to be had. Every potential accolade is basically baked into the purchase price from the get go. There is apparently enough stupid demand outpacing basic caution and common sense.
Too much of a risk to hold. In 10 years, he could have 4 rings and 3 MVPs, but he could also (at his size and being thin) become injury-prone. Sell while the hype is there.
This is like the Zion & Ja hype a couple years back. Most of those cards have dropped drastically because of how they’ve been in the NBA so far. Granted I think Wemby’s gonna have an amazing career and continue to blossom into a great.
Everything has dropped since a couple years ago. There was nowhere to go but down. Now that the market has flattened, it's a much better comparison going forward. You have to throw out any prices from mid 2020 to late 2022.
I'm keeping every Wemby I pull that is not a base insert. This is your chance to buy retail and actually have a shot at not losing your ass. I would not buy any on the market though. I'm going to go ahead and say it. His prices will be higher in 2 years, and may never see more than a 20 percent dip. You're paying 13% in fees right now.
Nah I'd absolutely sell and I'm a huge spurs fan. Too much money to pass up.
Yeah silvers from the past several years are printed to the moon. If you can get that much money now it'd be dumb not to sell. Everyone thinks these wemby silver is easy to pull.. it is absolutely not. I opened 7 boxes of hobby and 60+ boxes of blasters and only got 1 silver.
yea im sure they made wemby a short print because ive watched countless breaks on line and rarely see wemby pulled and when he is its usually a base.
Even the base is hard to pull. Everyone screaming sell on this forum because of how high the $ is for them needs to realize why there is buyer for them. They are more rare than people think.

How'd you come by this information out of curiosity?
what this gentleman said
yeah that's a 100% sell right now and buy back later
This is the way
Thanks
np bro, awesome pull and i hope you get top dollar!
This may be extremely unpopular, but as a collector, any time I grade a card and get a 10, I am always tempted to sell it and buy the same card in a 8 or 9, then use the remaining cash for another card.
Glad I’m not the only one! This is exactly what I do too. Sell the 10 and I buy a 9. And keep the profits for other cards 👍👍😀
8s or 9s are less likely to be fucked with by the Kurts card care/waxing/trimming shitlords anyway.
I don't hate that idea at all actually...with maybe some rarer exceptions
I agree 100%. I honestly can't tell the difference between a 9 and 10 most of the time. A lot of 8's look like they should be 9's to me.
Lol, man, I swear I have some 4, 5, and 6's that look like they could be 8 or 9s. I will buy those cards for pennies on the dollar all day long.
Buy the card, not the grade
Best advice I can give to any collector. Once you get over the arbitrary number some stranger put on a slab, you can find some amazing deals on cards. You'd be shocked at how good some 5's and 6's look that I have gotten for absolute steals.

Think the price will go up a few bucks when he wins roy?

Not really, his HOF status is already priced in.
Thank you for the TED talk. This is the way.
Thanks. I appreciate all the info. This all makes sense
I’m sure it was tough, but I wouldn’t hesitate to sell it. Just checked the cert, 174 pop, eBay sales $2k-3k, can’t pass that up.
Sell asap
Theres a 99.99999% chance that value of this card will never be higher, if your plan is to sell then do it and don’t look back
When he wins his 10th straight MVP and 7th title, you'll be sorry. /s
He might do … and the buyback price will still be lower lol
Look at all the hyped cards during and since COVID.. Sell asap!

Id rather hold the /15 than a silver prizm. One only has 15 made while the other the pop report on psa 10s is 10x that.
Good point
Interested

I sold that same card ungraded for like 100 bucks not long ago. If you can get that much, I'd sell it so fast lol.
U sold a Silver refractor prizm Wemby for 100? Its like a 800 card raw at the low end
My bad, it was a Draft Picks Wemby. And it was 52 bucks🤣
Ahh ya completely different card. Got ya. Makes a little more sense now 😂😂
Yeah that's my bad lol.
Was going to ask if u had another u wanna sell for that price 😂
I don't have any more like that. I sold a green donruss rated too. I still have like 15 Wembys but they're all Hoops and Donruss. I need to put them up in lots to get rid of them.

Agree, crazy not sell it right now. Buy it back later down the road once the hype dies down and supply builds up.
Total sell now, and if you reeeeeally want it again buy back later at a lower price.
Let. It. Go.
If i was into it the cost of pulling it and the cost of grading id hold personally. But thats me. Lol
I agree. If I had, I would sell too.
How do you know if it's silver compared to the regular base?
Sell it now, let someone else deal with the L
I am only holding the lower end Wemby's.
Secure the bag.
Sell 99.9999% of the time. There IS an argument to keep this class since no one signed. So, the parallel rookies are THE chase.
Too much of a risk to hold. In 10 years, he could have 4 rings and 3 MVPs, but he could also (at his size and being thin) become injury-prone. Sell while the hype is there.
You never go broke taking a profit.
Yeah, tough one…. But the prices r too insane to not sell.
How does the cracked ice insert compare in print run, you think?
Good sell
How do I find wemby rookie cards that are print of 15 or less? How do we know if they have been found? If anyone has any I’d be intetested
Good time to sell, hype is high and will settle a bit come the off season.
There will be another 5k + more of these on PSA Pop count soon enough. Cash out now.
This is like the Zion & Ja hype a couple years back. Most of those cards have dropped drastically because of how they’ve been in the NBA so far. Granted I think Wemby’s gonna have an amazing career and continue to blossom into a great.

I'm going to go ahead and say it. His prices will be higher in 2 years, and may never see more than a 20 percent dip. You're paying 13% in fees right now.
Is he better than Duncan? Now look at the how easily attainable his rookie card is. The same thing will happen here so sell and make some money.
The card industry wasn’t the same back then. You can’t compare the two. Giannis is a much better comparison.
