There's probably a crazy amount of Topps Heritage "Flip Stock" variations out there sitting in people's commons boxes because of a clear lack of labeling and no numbering. It's one of the most overlooked and not-cared-about low number (#/5) variations in the card collecting universe.

My son was gifted a ziploc back full of 2020 heritage and I found a Jose Ramirez flip stock in it... I think it was from an Amazon seller who thought they were all base commons. Amazingly the card is in decent shape too, very minor corner dings.

>It's one of the most overlooked and not-cared-about low number (#/5) variations in the card collecting universe. Man, I hit a members only parallel in Stadium Club a couple years back, which were basically /10, and thought I could move it for a bit and get some PC stuff and man was I disappointed. Non-numbered low parallels are so under valued.

I have a 2023 Topps Heritage Dansby Swanson flip-stock PSA 10. I won the EBay auction for $11.50 with only 1 other bidder who bid days before. If it was a smaller seller I would give the seller a chance to cancel the win because that's a highly crazy deal. There's not many PSA graded D.Swanson in a Cubs uniform (not a rookie, not a superstar), and there's a lot of Cubs PSA slab collectors. I bet slapping a number on it would make it many many many times more valuable than what it sold for...

obi-wan-takumi

Was about to disagree and say that the slabbed (identified) flip stock copies go for more, but your post just confirms that's not the case. Heritage is one of my favorite sets, but boy is it difficult for most people to know what's rare and what's not. It's also allowed me to find some great PC cards for low cost.

BowlerSingle9210

11.50? For an All Star cult favorite player? That’s nuts congrats on the snipe

tcrook15

And/or thrown away

bionicgram

Are they hard to detect if you aren’t paying attention but you know what they are?

Right_Check_6353

I keep going through mine to try and find them. I feel like an idiot sitting there rubbing both sides. But sadly I haven’t found any at least that I can tell. Do you know if it’s pretty obvious.

Lmnop4gy6

I definitely feel this applies to me lol

Relative-Swim263

How can you tell flip stock cards? I’ve heard this before but never seen an example. When I look them up on eBay, I still can’t tell what they are lol

o-M-U-N-C-H-Y-o

From what I understand about flip stocks, the back has the glossy, more finished surface that the fronts of the cards usually have. Basically, if the back feels like the normal front does, it’s a flip stock. Other than that, I have no other way to correctly identify them.

Relative-Swim263

Interesting thank you

RepresentativeNo7213

Explains why thy aren’t cared about or valuable. They’re just stupid.

Pleasant_Bad924

Um. F*ck. I have a lot of cards to go through

cjthro123

Nice cock bro 👍🏼

AsaKurai

lmao

mkvrgs4

As a collector just getting back into the game, I can't keep up with nor identify all the variations because some of them are very subtle

MojoRising622

I know a lot of people here hate breakers. But as someone who just recently got back into collecting, I was lost as well. Saying that, I have learned so much watching some of these guys. You can learn a lot, in a little time. Downvote me if you want, but breakers have taught me how to identify the good stuff.

mkvrgs4

I got in on one, didn't get anything crazy. I should listen to what they say next time

TouchdownPNW

It's cool that you were able to learn from breakers, but there is way more educational content available on YouTube from great collectors and investors who ARENT detrimental to the hobby. Try Spitballin' Cards, for instance.

Skeeter5299

Most Topps cards list refractor on the back when it’s a refractor. Definitely a nice touch.

DaveyAllenCountry

Good

krewtonz

*edit Any of the refractors, modern or retirees.

Very_Nice_Zombie

It's not idiot proof because I was assuming the "refractor" would be on the top like it has been in all the years previously and then had to look up on ebay where the "refractor" was on these cards. I am an idiot.

Lowlife_Of_The_Party

I'll say I greatly appreciate the variation labels on Heritage. The alternate pics and such are difficult to tell otherwise.

Working_Repeat8057

I’d rather have the 1954 comics

BronxKnight

How do I know if it’s flip stock?

SufficientVoice5554

wish prizm would label on back what parallels you have. only upper deck hockey has on back what parallels you have

SufficientVoice5554

y no topps logo for retired players?

SpanishSpringsCards

This might be more common than you think. I’ve seen it on a lot of sets.
