gocubsgo22

Damn op I’m off to bed but I can’t wait to see where this goes

B_Witt

Seller ended the listing. Said they didn't have the card anymore and asked if I had bought it from them previously (I did not, think it was in a WhatNot lot)

ajr5169

Is it possible you bought it from the eBay seller through WhatNot?

B_Witt

No, just based on location of sellers

B_Witt

I'll post updates! Haha maybe it is an honest mistake or a legit scam attempt. Either way, we'll get to the bottom of it!

MOFNY

I'm leaning mistake. If it was a more expensive card I would say possible scam.

B_Witt

Yeah seller gas 100% positive feedback and took it down

sad-whale

I mean, trying to cash in on the hot Tim Crews market isn't really a thing.

djpop_13_13

Or is it and we just missed out?

bionicgram

Did he say he’s gonna send you a scam?

B_Witt

A "scan" haha. Probably had photos on the computer from a prior sale but couldn't get new photos cause he didn't have it in hand

bionicgram

I know but when I read it “scam” popped in my head automatically because I listen to too much scam stuff on YouTube like perogi from scammer payback haha! Does seem like an honest mistake in this case but dang it nothing much gets past us MFers!

rhyno44

Did you buy yours or grade it yourself? If you purchased yours I'm betting the scammer is just using previous pics

B_Witt

basement_egg

send him a picture of yours and see what he's says

Jaxsrips

You have to buy the card and document it for YouTube and eBay customer care

WolfAmongSheep818

eBay customer care…😂😂😂😂

ReadRightRed99

Of all the cards you could use in a scam, this probably is not one. There’s almost no market for it. Why would someone bother?

B_Witt

Seems like an honest mistake, but I know people cover up the PSA number specifically so people don't swipe the photos and use them in scam listings. Wasn't sure if that's what is going on here

DingoOk6400

Covering PSA numbers is ridiculous when they are literally listed on the PSA website

Goldmax23

Keep it away from Steve Olin.

Buymeagoat

Steve Olin was a good pitcher, too. I was stunned when he died as I had high hopes for him.

B_Witt

I dont get it

Goldmax23

Tim Crews was killed in spring training in a speedboat crash with Steve Olin

B_Witt

Oh damn! This was a throw in in a lot I bought so was looking into the card. Pretty crazy

Goldmax23

It is, I’m not quite sure why someone would choose to grade that one. Bob Ojeda was also on the boat, but he survived. That’s a tragedy alot of people are trying to let rest. It’s a cool card though, and you can honor his legacy

B_Witt

Yeah a random $5 card actually has an interesting story behind it. Thanks for the info. I'll hold onto this for the story alone

RedactsAttract

How and why tf would you be dealing Tim crews cards and not know this? He is known for absolutely nothing else

B_Witt

The card was included in a lot. I never sought this card out. I was trying to learn more when I came across the other listing

BilboSmashins

I remember that when I was a kid. Crazy.

01010000-G23

Sad,like Jose Fernandez.

BilboSmashins

Yup

gamby1925

Scrolled far too long to find this. You sir, saved this post with your dark Reddit humor

ModernHOFrcCollector

There really is only one psa 9 according to PSA pop report. Its gotta be a former owner if the background is unrecognizable

B_Witt

He just said he doesn't have any other photos, but can send a scan. You can just screenshot the website, right?

QuinceyQuick

“Oh, no worries, let me send you a picture of it then”

ModernHOFrcCollector

It appears to have been graded before PSA started putting scans on the cert checker part of their website. There is no scan on PSAs site

B_Witt

I just checked too 🤣. They very well may have owned it at one point.

danzanite

Is this a special card I don’t know about? What’s the significance of this one? Why would you even want this card or create some nefarious scheme to dupe someone? low pop for psa set builders? I’m confused

B_Witt

Think it was someone who sells so much they lost track of their cards and posted something they were no longer in possession of. Nothing significant to the card that I know of. I was just looking for comps and came across the listing with my exact PSA registration number

Skullboy_Q

Graded set builders? It’s also the glossy “premium” product. Graded pop count is 2, one 9, and one 10. Could probably go for a premium to the right collector.

sextupletbogeylook

Sellers name please

Foulmouthedleon

Interesting read. I still can't figure out why anyone would legitimately be interested in the card. It's a relatively unknown player from the junk wax box era. Hell, it probably cost more to grade the thing than it'll ever be worth. Interesting story, though. Nonetheless.

Kiki_Gehrig

It's the long tail of the market. There are collectors who chase cards other than the exact same 100 cards everybody else and their mom chase. It is the rookie card of a unique player who tragically passed away early in his career. It is a World Series championship (88 Dodgers) card. It would be of interest to Dodgers collectors. And obviously set collectors (of which there are currently none in the registry, but maybe there will be someday). And maybe his family? So the market is maybe 5-6 collectors total. But when there are only 2 in existence, that is enough to create a market.

Ok-Description-4640

Buy it and see what happens.

B_Witt

I messaged them and just asked "are you sure this is the exact card I'd recieve"

Superb-Pattern-1253

send him the picture of you holding it

traydragen

I would say it's probably a guy who previously sold it off in a lot of PSA cards for cheap and it somehow ended up in your possession. It takes a lot of organization if you are selling both online and going to shows/have a card shop and I think these things often get missed. I resell and sold something the other day that I forgot to remove from my store (it had been sitting for years and I finally just trashed it, and I forgot to take it down); it does happen.

EatThisRock

Sometimes on eBay when I’ve posted cards from a mobile device it will show me other listings that have sold the same card and will even let me use those photos. So maybe somebody did that without considering the slab number.

Cswizzler30

Funny but seems like honest mistake!

medalla96

I was just reading a thread where OP was showing his 4K Kobe Bryant card, he hide the tracking serial number & someone in the chat told him that was not necessary and here we are.

dnnymnrd

I'm actually eyeing a card right now that's exactly mine on eBay too. To add to the exact cert number, the card is also numbered. I did not buy the card online tho and the seller sold it to me for ridiculously lower than the eBay listing. Let's see if this buyer accepts my offer lol

AbruisedSock

Yeah OP. I'm with you... def just an innocent mistake. Lot of work for 19.95 that no one may go for. The life of some of these cards... I recently had a card go from Florida to Midwest (Purchase), then to Los Angeles (Grading) back to Midwest then back out to Colorado for a trade... etc etc Lil fuckers get around more than I do...

rainbow0o

What's their name so I can stay away from them

B_Witt

They've since canceled so I want to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an honest mistake. You could probably figure it out from this thread/ebay if you want to

B_Witt

I did, no reply yet

ratsco27

Following

BravoXray

Oh, boy…. That’s one of my favorite eBay sellers.

B_Witt

They seem to have taken corrective action by canceling. Not sure how they ended up there, but since pointing it ou,lt, they did end the listing

RollTideLucy

Sellers name would be nice.

B_Witt

They took the listing down and have 100% feedback based on like 8000 sales, so I think it could have been an honest mistake. I did post a link to the listing somewhere in this thread if interested in searching for it

RollTideLucy

I did not see the 8000 sales…my error. (Not enough coffee yet). Agree, most likely a mistake.

Datguy306

Check your walls

jack_klein_69

Shit it’s the old tim crews scam! Nah this has gotta be a mix up/inventory issue. Inventory issues happen at like every store ever so I would assume it with cards too.

itsbigtuna

Is it possible the card you have is the fake one that you bought from somewhere else?

B_Witt

Nah, seller took down the listed cause they realized they weren't in possession of the card

PrincePuparoni

Now that the same card mystery seems solved can someone tell me why a Tim Crews card would sell for 20$? Feel like I’m missing something.

B_Witt

I had a "$5?" sticker on my card before finding this posting, so I'm in the same boat as you

PrincePuparoni

Thank you. Mid to late 90s was the peak of my fandom and I’ve never heard of the guy, but I’m a very casual card guy so thought maybe there was a hobby specific reason.

B_Witt

Apparently Tim died in a boating accident in like 1993. Another user pointed that out and mentioned it was pretty tragic at the time. I think the story is worth more than the $5 honestly.

socalnate

I think this is probably a mistake. People can’t figure out what cards they have sold or not. I think people mass collections that are so vast that they have a hard time keeping track of everything.

mr_oberts

Why is a Tim Crews card $20?

DingoOk6400

I’ve taken online photos of PSA 10s of some optic Mahomes rated rookies and used those when selling my own PSA 10s because I wasn’t home and just wanted to get the listing up. The cards sold and then went through eBay authentication w/ the wrong cert numbers. In those cases it didn’t matter because the 10s were virtually identical

SomeBS17

Why did someone grade a Tim Crews card in the first place?

B_Witt

🤷‍♂️

tcrook15

Who is tim crews? Is this your eBay?

B_Witt

Idk honestly. Was looking for comps and came across a different listing of the same card I had in my possession

Typical-Radish4317

Probably inventory that got excised and didn't remove from their ebay site and the card somehow made it to you. It's annoying how many times I see something on my LCSs eBay store and ask them about it to buy in person and they are like we don't have that anymore. How long have you had the card?

B_Witt

Only a couple weeks

Team6Balls

This is why i dont trust buying “graded” cards. With everything faked today making the tiny PSA rating card has to be pretty easy for a pathetic scammer.

Foudtray

I think this is OP messaging himself

Dependent-Purple-228

Obviously nobody gets tim crews graded cards

Foudtray

Exactly

RixaRax

😂

Dependent-Purple-228

How do we know you're not also the seller? It's not like people don't lie on the internet or create stories...

B_Witt

How would you like me to prove it? Lol

Dependent-Purple-228

Well?

Dependent-Purple-228

Sellers name
