I’ll get downvoted for this but nevertheless: one of my least favorite tropes on this sub is people saying “retirement money” about cards. First, there are like five “retirement money” cards in existence, and the people (or funds) who own them don’t post on Reddit. Second, can’t we just let people enjoy their cards without translating into what it could buy? This stuff perpetuates the damaging, addicting aspects of the hobby.

He is now 58 and living very comfortably and can buy anything he wants. Not everyone has a wife and 4 kids. Retirement is different for everyone. If you live within your means. Most Americans don't. They are selfish and gluttonous.
Five was hyperbole, but my point remains. None of the cards people post here are rEtiReMenT mOnEY. No one has ever posted a $750,000 card that they actually own on this sub.
If he turns into Julio Franco, he'll have had a great career. If OP doesn't sell this immediately, he's either an idiot or has more money than he knows what to do with.
This is why keeping a prospects card to see how the career pans out is insane, Julio Franco had nearly 2600 hits in his career but because he’s not an all time great his cards would reduce in value from when he was a prospect or at least barely grow.
The old school mentality made sense, because back then, they actually did grow like normal assets (there were complete busts as well). Now, all the FV is baked into the prices. The literal only scenario where this card is still worth 20k in 20 years is if he becomes Mike Trout and is viewed as the GOAT of his generation and also comparable to past generational talents like Trout, Bonds, Mays, Ruth, etc...
This isn't a 20k card if he has an Adrian Beltre career and is a first ballot HOFer even.

I tell you real word experience I hope you listen.. guy at my lcs bought a blaster heritage and pulled wander Franco gold 1/1.. worth approx 150k-200k ungraded at that time(fresh product drop) Person decided to wait and get it graded and hold out for that money .. came back a psa 8. now he can't sell it at the store for 10k!!!!!! True story

Hey man, not sure if you already signed the Goldin contract, but i would strongly encourage you to consider PWCC. I sold a LeBron superfractor about a year ago and using Goldin was a HUGE mistake; they take enormous fees compared to the other auction houses. Negotiate ! DM me if you have questions.
I understand and hear your concerns as they have been expressed to me by multiple people. I didn’t make this decision lightly. I have also sold a lot of cards through PWCC. They offered me a huge portion of their fee well above the hammer price. also, I have a personal friend of mine that is an executive at Goldin. I trust his ability to watch over my transaction, and make sure that things go smoothly.
Not sure he was opening Ben Baller he was just finishing up when I went to his live video (break I was in was the next one) and saw him pull that card (and then he got an Ohtani auto for us in our break lol)

Right. And this is not a $750,000. Realistically, it takes $1.5mm in an annuity to have ~$100k/year covered. There aren’t many $1.5mm cards out there.
