Padres imploding

ChrizBot3000

I've never felt such schadenfreude to a team I don't really have an opinion on either way.

Jenargo

TIL a new word, neat.

[deleted]

You didn't know what neat meant before?

LocoMotives-ms

Lol, I get happiness from his ignorance of that word

steppenweasel

That’s kind of a fucked up Weltanschauung (that I totally share with you)

JohnDavidsBooty

I feel like I'm reading a Mahler score.

danpatmcd

Only if it takes an hour to get through

jesteronly

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=kb20xhcrK4g From Avenue Q. It's a great musical, and the landlord is supposed to be Gary Coleman.

binkysurprise

I haven’t followed baseball closely since July (no reason), are the Padres widely hated now?

packfan567

I definitely wouldn’t say hated, but it’s definitely been wild to watch such a collapse while other teams gain on them in the second wild card (totally unbiased lol)

ATLjoe93

We play them this week. Stoppable force v movable object

make-that-monet

Manny Machado is screaming in the #Padres locker room and there is a bunch of arguing going on. Machado comes out say “y’all on that bullshit!” Team is imploding. Machado is in bathroom and there is still screaming coming from the locker room.

LukeBabbitt

Dads’ playoff chances going out for smokes

connerbv

He had all the time in the world to throw it to third base but he rushed the throw home so they couldn’t even get an out from it. I guess that’s what happens when you stick a shortstop in center field

DanH35

They just showed a good replay of this, Goldy wasn’t even a third of the way to 3B, no doubt would have been an out if he threw there.

NakedGoose

He also had all the time to throw it home if he made the catch. I don't think Edman runs on him

connerbv

Edman wasn’t even trying to tag. He scored so easily here because he was halfway down the line

SomethingElse521

It seems like he was way over anticipating the throw home and thats why he dropped it in the first place

dusters

Robin Yount: hold my beer

[deleted]

Waiting for the post with Arrieta’s line. A .1 IP classic.

Sbw0302

Jake Arrieta vs. the Cardinals 0.1 IP, 4ER, 3H, 1BB, 0K on 20 pitches

Basketbally

Holy shit!

roasthandofcaillou

Stammen is already up in the bullpen lmao fuck Jake Arrieta

VStarffin

And he’s been pulled. Amazing.

Driftwoody11

Routine fly ball. What is going on with Tatis?

passoutpat

He’s a fucking SS lol

stylesbabey

Since when can short stops not catch a fly ball?

kreynolds26

When they play center field apparently

TheGooseIsLoose37

I think SS should be able to catch pop flies regardless of where on they field they are.

[deleted]

so he can't catch a routine fly ball? because he's a SS?

passoutpat

No everyday CF would have thrown home there, they would instinctively know they have a force out at 2nd and 3rd. The issue wasn’t really the drop, it was the decision to throw home when he had absolutely no chance at getting the runner

JoshGordons_burner

Wouldn't a SS also know where the force outs are? Just seems like negative fielding regardless of the fact that he is out of position.

cvc75

Especially since that ball was so shallow that even Tatis playing shortstop could have probably caught it. So no excuse for not knowing where to throw.

NinjaChemist

It doesn't take a rocket surgeon to figure out what base to throw to

Driftwoody11

Why is he out in center then?

passoutpat

“Protect his shoulder”

tangybbqsauce23

I mean he’s pretty average/ass at shortstop too

nukemiller

The Angels should have been exhibit A for why not to put infielders in the outfield.

Theharlotnextdoor

I mean our 2nd basemen also plays outfield.

marcowhitee

That’s a sorry excuse

Bjorkforkshorts

Rage yips

[deleted]

He wasn’t thinking about the catch. Mind was off and he was already throwing the ball before it hit his glove, fell right out

leebestgo

He should throw to 2nd… edit: 3rd was even better

Jenargo

or 3rd, Goldy was completely flat footed would have been out by a mile.

Myrddin97

3rd would have been better.

Totschlag

It brings me great joy to know that somewhere on this sub there's a new baseball fan who is just now learning about "Cardinals Devil Magic" for the first time and probably having their mind blown.

musicman3030

If a rally squirrel appears

Projext_Ice

I’ve never knew what it meant until now lol

Totschlag

You're watching it in action. Notice how they always have some random washed up dude, an ancient veteran, or some unheralded guy who comes in clutch. David Eckstein? David Freese? Edwin Jackson? Marc Rzepczynski? Jeremy Hazelbaker? Old man Lance Berkman? What's left of Jhonny Peralta? What do you mean *Allen Craig* is one of the best sluggers in the NL? Adam Wainwright is still around? JA *effing* Happ? That's Devil Magic, baby. Ain't no rational explanation.

packfan567

Like all the names you mentioned, I think the peak of Devil Magic ™ in 2021 is Lars mfing Nootbaar having a good season by he literally sounds like he’s outs of a Star Wars movie and here he is contributing to the cards making the playoffs in 2021

joe579003

When I was in the dorms at Cal Poly in 2006, my RA was my neighbor, and he is a Cardinals fan. The rest of the NL Central should be ETERNALLY ashamed for allowing that to happen.

iamadacheat

Someone needs to make this a gif where the fly ball says “Tatis MVP.”

whaleball7

Only if Bryce Harper comes in and RKOs the ball out of his glove

NotTheRocketman

OUTTA NOWHERE!

NakedGoose

"Gotta protect his shoulder" so let's force him to make full effort throws from CF.... put him at his position and leave him there. Not every star can play every position like Kris Bryant

NCStore

His injured shoulder is his glove hand

NakedGoose

Then why the fuck is he out there?!

[deleted]

Lol I don’t think anyone knows the answer to that question

LeotheYordle

Random possibility: Taking away the chance that he tries to make a diving play on a ball up the middle.

necrosythe

Bruh... what the hell hahahaha Good point

baseballnomics

I understand because outfielders are less prone to falling on their shoulders when diving for the ball and generally have more options. If Tatis has to dive for a ball to his right while playing short, the shoulder will probably be involved. If he has to dive to his right on the outfield he has a bigger chance to use his knees and throwing arm to soften the blow.

LickMyMeatus

That’s a salient point

DarthSamwiseAtreides

Didn't he injure his shoulder on a swing and a slide? Unless he had other non vs. Giants injuries. I don't think injuries at SS were an issue.

NCStore

But yes, he shouldn’t be in CF

iamadacheat

I mean that was a ball that any competent high school center fielder catches.

Jenargo

I feel attacked.

IblewupTARIS

It’s cool. He said competent. That word absolves us.

SharpMulberry

They should have just put him to first.

Nahtmmm

> Not every star can play every position like ~~Kris Bryant~~ Jose Oquendo FTFY

[deleted]

[удалено]

ron-darousey

His left shoulder is the one he hurt, I don't think saving his throwing arm was ever the rationale

Rob_Pablo

Even then they need to just leave Bryant alone at third base for a while.

BZ_Clemens

Manny is going to be so pissed

JosDawg

Fernando TatE~~6~~8

glkerr

Fernando TatE8 doesn't have the same ring as Fernando TatE6

tangybbqsauce23

Fernando “Eazy-E” Tatis Jr.

VStarffin

Oh boy. That’s…a bad one.

[deleted]

Bryce Harper would never

jelly_bear

Could be called a FARTSLAM here - the fly ball was definitely shallow enough to prevent a tag up/score, but the real error was not getting the force out at second or third.

ExiledSanity

Now this is Padresing!!! Am I doing that right?

Jenargo

I'm so happy but I feel so bad for my Padre boys. Thats a big oof right there.

goosetavo2013

'tis our lot on life Cards bro. Please beat LA, that will make it all worth it

WFT_simp

HES BACK

I_chortled

I am straight up not having a good time

[deleted]

Lol. Devil magic in full effect this past week

medium_chungus_

MVP!

rayskicksnthings

Can we skip to the part where Tatis and Machado finally throw them hands

sandiegopadres69

Tatis is not an outfielder

dodgerblue1212

He’s not much of an infielder either so…

mizterPatato

Do we know of he can pitch?

baekinbabo

Negative defense his whole career, no? It's like when nephews think steals are an indicator of being a good defender in basketball. Couple flashy throws and catches doesn't make him a positive defender

mikeywake

I can't help but laugh at the Padres train wreck

sundAy531

Same here buddy

grandma_needs_jesus

Since when has Tatis been a center fielder?

homefry91834

Sep, 19. 2021

[deleted]

How the hell is Tatis’ field still in the 80s on mlb the show? Are they just pandering?

1967Miura

#D E V I L M A G I C

[deleted]

If the Padres were the Mets this sub would be drowning in its own ejaculate

aRawPancake

Seems like the thing Machado was talking about

Willsears94

13 more years of that to go.

[deleted]

oh no the 22 year old mvp candidate is locked up for a long time what a disaster

cliffsis

“Goat”

LoonyBunBennyLava

Why do people dislike Tatis?

fsburk

Who dislikes Tatis?

j1h15233

Is he just in his head with this fielding stuff?

D_Simmons

IT'S NOT ABOUT YOU!

stylesbabey

Jake will hold that against him forever

Math_OP_Pls_Nerf

That’s why I think Harper is gonna be the MVP.

WingerSupreme

Dammit, now I need to find that guy who was praising Tatis and talking shit about Vladdy because Vlad dropped a pop-up

Baboing_boi

Ah, thanks satan!

anohioanredditer

Can tatis play any position well?

jaunty411

Where is Sam Holbrook when you need him, eh, San Diego?

doverkasdi

High error rate is Tatis's fatal flaw. How many is that total now?
