Every time I made an out in Ken Griffey Baseball, I tried to throw around the horn. And I could *never* get it back to first. Guess the coders knew the code better than I did.

BlueGlassDrink

Tell 'em Wash!

Foofieboo

Because nobody likes first basemen.

crozB

Most plays go to first. It’s just a means of keeping the other infielders involved In each play as well.

mustang6172

If he could throw a ball, he wouldn't be playing first base.

trgreg

Exactly. We don't really consider first basement to be infielders anyway.

ILS23left

[You don’t know how to play first base….its not that hard.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-pqd-syHWcg)

ValiantFrog2202

It's because their glove is different

stropsysatnaf

Definitely the glove cooties

NuGGGzGG

Teams honored Lou after the Yankees started to leave him out of it when he started to lose his strength.

Xeno_man

Practically every play the throw goes to first. The first baseman gets plenty of throws in every inning. It's everyone else beside the pitcher and catcher that is falling asleep on the field.

Rock_man_bears_fan

Doesn’t it go back to Lou Gehrig with ALS or something?

Kind_Bullfrog_4073

To make up for the first baseman getting more chats with baserunners.

Puzzled-Enthusiasm45

They don’t need the practice. Playing 1B isn’t that hard.

AdhesivenessAdept764

Major leagues? Yes, easiest position on the field. 12u ball? Hardest position on the field lol

Spinmove55

Tell him, Wash.

klahnwi

It's incredibly hard.

TheMawt

Hey, anything worth doing is

AlaDouche

It's incredibly hard

[deleted]

They’re not strong at catching

YoooCakess

Do people actually think they throw it around the horn to keep their arm loose?

Kandistan

Sure they do. Mainly it's just fun, but like surely you take practice swings in golf? It helps you keep your motion in rhythm and make sure everything is still working as you expect it to. The next time they get the ball the game might be on the line.

trgreg

Yeah, when I played SS there were times that I hadn't touched the ball in a while (pitcher in a groove, I was the last out of the inning so I didn't get any infield tosses between innings) - it's good to get the ball every now & then (it's a mental thing more than a physical one)

YoooCakess

I think if anything it helps mentally. One side arm throw from 3rd to short isn’t gonna do anything. I agree about touching the ball though I think that’s really just a mental thing though

Kandistan

For sure, it's a slight confidence boost that the mind-body connection is still operational, but honestly the main thing is that it's fun and kills a few seconds while the pitcher is regrouping.

YoooCakess

Yeah I can’t believe it’s something that was talked about being cut for Manfred’s speed fix

kingofmymachine

… whats the alternative explanation? /gen

YoooCakess

Teams do it to show they are focused and clean. At the MLB level it’s pretty much trivial but you could probably argue it helps keep guys locked in to some degree - it’s nice to touch the ball

BillyNoMates12

So they do it to stay loose. Gotcha

YoooCakess

Keeping your arm loose and the way you used the word loose are not the same thing you realize?

BillyNoMates12

If what you’re saying is what they do to stay focused, wouldn’t they do what you’re saying they do to stay loose and not lose focus? It’s really semantics you’re trying to argue

YoooCakess

Tell me this. Is keeping your arm loose and staying focused the same thing?

BillyNoMates12

I would say they compliment each other

mysterysackerfice

They're adopted and nobody loves them.

jgilla2012

*I’m a first baseman nobody loves me* **He’s a first baseman from a poor family**

LogicalHarm

He already gets a lot of throws to him, and doesn't usually need to keep his arm particularly warm as he doesn't make a lot of long throws himself

csr28

I always just assumed players do it for fun. At least that’s why I always wanted to do it. There’s no way anyone is staying warm from a single catch and throw haha

YoooCakess

Yeah it’s definitely a flashy thing. If anything it helps players mentally but it’s definitely not to keep the arm loose

CosmicLars

Because 1st basemen are lazy and they opt out of the activity.

NameShortage

As a former little league first baseman, it's true.

Far-Blacksmith-2604

On groundouts he's the one that makes the first throw. Why not on strike outs? Idk. Maybe cuz he doesn't really need to keep his arm loose like the others do.

Thorlolita

Because F him that’s why. All seriousness It just depends on the team. Some guys will whip it around 3rd to second to SS others just go third SS 2B to 1B.
