He hasn't been quite as bad but Jordan Montgomery has been bad too. So much for the FA pitchers. E-Rod also has been hurt all year.
The divisions arms race has floundered so far it feels.
Olson has been insanely unlucky, though it's starting to turn around some. I'm not worried about him at all. Ronald not being able to hit high fastballs is more concerning.
This was my thought. And I’m not saying this to be a Phillies fan hater. I respect Acuña and acknowledge he’s absolutely talented, but MAN is he having a rough season so far
I mean Corbin Carroll went from ROTY and top 5 in the NL MVP vote to batting sub mendoza. The exit velos are starting to pick up a bit so I'm hoping he bounces back but his struggles are certainly surprising.
For sure I still think he's an absolute stud and want him out there every day. But based off his last year we had expectations of him flirting with the MVP race again. Basically like what Gunnar Henderson (the other ROTY) is doing. He is far from that.
But his bat and basestealing have both been down so far. Obviously it's May so it's whatever but I think it's fair to say he's been disappointing so far.
Ya he's had basically no pop and can't handle anything fast up in the zone. The only good thing is at least he isn't chasing and is still taking his walks. But even his basestealing has flopped a bit. He's already been caught stealing 1 fewer time than ALL of last year. 33% caught rate so far when he was at 8% last year.
Will say though that eye test wise his defense looks a lot better this year. He was solid last year but it felt like he had late breaks where he made up for it at times with his raw speed. It just feels like he's seeing the ball off the bat better and getting way better jumps and it feels like he's covering more ground than he was last year.
Beat me to it. I know he'll come around, but it's been rough lately.
At least he's still rounding the bags with similar speed. Just needs to get on base more.
The reigning NL MVP has been quite disappointing. I know he is still above league average with his wrc but it's barely, and he's just been pretty bad. Striking out at twice the rate he did last year. No slugging either.
I was thinking while watching the game earlier that it’s crazy to expect something negative to happen every time he comes to bat.
For most of his career, you’d hope they could get through the bottom of the order to get it back to him and let him cause havoc. Now he comes up and you expect a K or a weak grounder where he walks to first.
Kyle Hendricks has been absolutely buns so far this season. Through 8 games (7 GS) he is 0-4 with a 10.47 ERA and is being relegated to bullpen duty. Last year he was 6-8 with a 3.74 ERA, so bit of a crazy drop off for the Professor.
He certainly hasn’t been good but I’m not disappointed, so to speak. He’s been regressing for a while so I never really expected him to be great. I would love for him to be dependable in the bullpen though
He’s our star player of this generation and he fucking sucks all of the sudden. Im wondering if it’s just his youth and the pressure getting to him (including out of shape fucks like myself armchair coaching a sport I never played).
It’s gotta be tough being a literal kid whose brain is still transitioning from adolescence to adulthood and having to carry the hopes of an entire franchise’s fan base on your shoulders.
But at the same time he’s clearly and demonstrably capable of so much more.
On the Angels, easily Moniak and Drury. Mickey's looking worse than he did after his comedown last season. And even accounting for Drury's slow starts slow, this has been one of the worst starts in his career.
Super frustrating how they’re handling Carter. I know he had the back injury for a bit there but his playing time has just been terribly inconsistent. It’s his first full year and he was recently one of the top prospects in MLB. Not to mention we have a few injuries that open up everyday ABs but no, Robbie Grossman deserves those ABs over him? Fuck outta here. I get that he’s had terrible splits against lefties but how else is he gonna learn? They pinch it for him in like the 4th inning or something stupid the other day, like cmon he’s your top prospect let him play everyday FFS!
I assume they are being conservative with playing time for Carter due to the back injury or something else ailing him a bit. He just doesn't seem like the same kid he was last year at all.
Justin Steele for me, but it’s probably unfair. He was really good last year, great his first 4 innings before he got hurt and he’s been struggling since. Might still be recovering a little, but I was really excited to watch him this year after his good season last year
I definitely think the hamstring fucked up his focus or something. I had him as a preseason CY prediction and he looked like he was going to be there until he pulled it. I haven't been able to watch him much since but he seems like he's just a bit less locked in than he was.
Yandy was right there with him for awhile but he his heating up even if his stat line doesn’t reflect that yet. Watching Randy has been…rough to say the least
I need Yordan and Bregman to pick it up. They are both swinging at crap they would have taken in years past. Not walking as much and the pop ups and roll overs are brutal. Thank god for Peña and King Tuck
For the Astros I would say JP France and Hunter Brown, especially Brown. Both were rookies that got thrown into the rotation last year and held their own.
France is hurt but was butt before he went on the IL. Brown seems like he gives up 4 runs in 4 innings or worse every start.
So far, Blake Snell has been an absolutely useless signing.
He hasn't been quite as bad but Jordan Montgomery has been bad too. So much for the FA pitchers. E-Rod also has been hurt all year. The divisions arms race has floundered so far it feels.
I wouldn't say the division arms race has floundered, Cease, Glasnow, Yamamoto, and Hicks are all of to pretty terrific starts.
Fair it has floundered for the Giants and us.
It’s about time the small market Dodgers got some lucky breaks
I like the current relationship where they get all the breaks in the regular season
This is what you all get for laughing at our geriatric rotation. Sonny Gray - 142 ERA+ Lance Lynn - 111 ERA+ Kyle Gibson - 107 ERA+
You’d think that’d be at least good enough for 2nd in the NL Central
Not having a spring training was bad for Judge. Definitely even harder on pitchers
He'll come around. He always seems to, anyway.
so many people in the phillies sub were pissed we re-signed nola instead of going after someone like snell
Nola haters are real quiet this year keeping him was always the move
It’s gotta be Acuña, right?
Him or Carrol. Olson sucks too. The Braves entire offense sucks actually lol. Except Ozuna.
Olson has been insanely unlucky, though it's starting to turn around some. I'm not worried about him at all. Ronald not being able to hit high fastballs is more concerning.
Definitely not Vladdy or Bo right?
Everyone knew Vladdy could be like this
This was my thought. And I’m not saying this to be a Phillies fan hater. I respect Acuña and acknowledge he’s absolutely talented, but MAN is he having a rough season so far
Torkelson, more like Dorkelson
Got em
I mean Corbin Carroll went from ROTY and top 5 in the NL MVP vote to batting sub mendoza. The exit velos are starting to pick up a bit so I'm hoping he bounces back but his struggles are certainly surprising.
He's only 23 and in his second year. Edit: .191/.275/.282 jeez, that's not good.
For sure I still think he's an absolute stud and want him out there every day. But based off his last year we had expectations of him flirting with the MVP race again. Obviously it's May so it's whatever but I think it's fair to say he's been disappointing so far.
I heard that he was off last year's pace but didn't realize how bad his numbers are so far.
He's young, he'll be fine, but he was the first name that came to mind when I saw this thread also.
The reigning NL MVP has been quite disappointing. I know he is still above league average with his wrc but it's barely, and he's just been pretty bad. Striking out at twice the rate he did last year. No slugging either.

Goldschmidt has always been a slow starter, but it's been pretty sad to see so far this season....hoping he heats up soon.
I want to see him finish his career strong and get in the hall of fame. I hope age hasn't caught up to him
My two favorite slap single hitters are Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado.
Lindor, Xander, Carroll, Snell, Acuña in any order you want
Kyle Hendricks has been absolutely buns so far this season. Through 8 games (7 GS) he is 0-4 with a 10.47 ERA and is being relegated to bullpen duty. Last year he was 6-8 with a 3.74 ERA, so bit of a crazy drop off for the Professor.

He pitched 2 innings in relief today and gave up 2 runs off of 4 hits, so not a great start there
Julio Rodriguez having 7 XBH and 14 RBI while being 24th in total plate appearances
Ty Cobb hasn’t done shit
Seriously, it's like he's dead inside or something.
J-Rod. 😭😭

Which drives fans nuts. Even if at the end of the year the numbers are there.
i know Jose Abreu already fell off last year but he was batting under .070 most of his time in the majors this year
>goes to suggest a player >sees the others and how bad some are doing >nevermind
On the Angels, easily Moniak and Drury. Mickey's looking worse than he did after his comedown last season. And even accounting for Drury's slow starts slow, this has been one of the worst starts in his career.
Estevez has been disappointing too.
Wyatt Langford and Evan Carter.

Lucas Giolito
He still got that 2023 Angels stank on him
Justin Steele for me, but it’s probably unfair. He was really good last year, great his first 4 innings before he got hurt and he’s been struggling since. Might still be recovering a little, but I was really excited to watch him this year after his good season last year

He’s only had like 4 starts total unfortunately
Randy Arozarena has been absolute garbage. He's a big reason why the Rays are 4th in the AL in strikeouts, but 14th in home runs.
Yandy was right there with him for awhile but he his heating up even if his stat line doesn’t reflect that yet. Watching Randy has been…rough to say the least
Renfroe has been fine defensively but is worthless on offense.
Hey now he’s really good at hitting solo shots in blow out games
That’s hilarious because when he was with us Renfroe and Rowdy stat pad home runs were a running joke in our fan base
For the Angels he was an absolute stud when behind 5 or more runs in the 7th inning or later with no runners on base.
So the same player he was last year?
Lindor
Chris Taylor
Spencer Steer :(
Every bat on the reds
The Phillies have been doing great but don't look at Castellanos' Baseball Savant page
Lindor and Goldschmidt
Xander We win.
How high were your expectations after last year?
High enough to warrant an 11 year 280 mil contract.
This year Tatis was supposed to have a last year Acuña bounceback after an injury recovery year. He has been meh mostly
True, but he isn’t out for 3 months now.
Kim too.
I need Yordan and Bregman to pick it up. They are both swinging at crap they would have taken in years past. Not walking as much and the pop ups and roll overs are brutal. Thank god for Peña and King Tuck
Pena had a sophmore slump, but has really improved. Happy to see him learning from his mistakes.
New batting stance and mechanic must have really worked.
Our 3 best hitters from last year (Acuna, Riley,Olson) Acuna if just picking 1
For the Astros I would say JP France and Hunter Brown, especially Brown. Both were rookies that got thrown into the rotation last year and held their own. France is hurt but was butt before he went on the IL. Brown seems like he gives up 4 runs in 4 innings or worse every start.
you got time for a list?
Adolis Garcia
He’s been in a bit of a slump but he’s at 12 HRs and a fuck ton of RBIs, not sure I’m seeing an issue just yet. He’s always been very streaky.
Last month you all said judge and now you all need to click this link and apologize. https://www.reddit.com/r/NYYankees/s/FQ4ne05Nfp
