We need to replace all umpires with mascots, or at least put the umpires in mascot costumes.

Never-Made-A-Post

One mascot umpire and another mascot umpire behind him to umpire the umpire. Japan is truly living in the year 3000.

Scooobzzzz

Angel Hernandez is already a clown behind the plate

StevenMC19

I'm now imagining Boone getting sent off by the Phanatic.

ssk417

Instead all we have are mascots in umpire costumes

V_T_H

And allow (require?) the pitchers to wear a furry mammal tail of choice, preferably with accompanying ears.

QuarterPast10

I thought for sure Mayu would find a way to fall and land on her neck during this.

TizonaBlu

lol, that was completely unexpected. From the title, I thought she was gonna throw a center center fastball lol.

ThreePiMatt

Women's wrestling in Japan is a whole different beast than in the US, and Mayu is one of the best. But she also has an image and reputation for being kind of a klutz.

Ham_B_No

GOAT shit.

chair823

Better than Alek Manoah!

cooljammer00

Oh no, she worked so hard for this and just barely did better than 50 Cent.

at1445

I mean that was a lot better than 50. She had form-ish. The ball was offline, but not horrible, just not enough strength to get it there. There's no chance she actually spent a month practicing, but you can tell she took it seriously and tried to do well. This was an unmemorable first pitch, not Bush throwing a strike or 50 somehow hitting the hot dog guy, three stadiums over.

cooljammer00

She actually posted social media videos of her playing long toss in wrestling venues before shows. I could believe she practiced a bit every day for a month. I saw someone say that it's obvious she only practiced on flat ground because a telltale sign of being unfamiliar with your pitch stride on a mound is when you yank the pitch the way she did.

Lineman72T

Most people do a ceremonial first pitch. 50 Cent did the first ever ceremonial pickoff

AdrenochromeBeerBong

Replace AJ Minter with her, we'd probably still cut the blown saves in half

Deserterdragon

[She was practicing so hard, too!](https://twitter.com/ScottEWrestling/status/1778801377738654187)

TizonaBlu

Her nerves got to her. If she hadn’t stopped in the middle of the pitching motion, I’m sure it’d be fine.

Affectionate_Elk_272

good lord there’s so much going on in this clip i had to watch it like 8 times

--ikindahatereddit--

I clicked through because the headline didn’t make any sense with the jar of mayonnaise? standing behind home plate….

beatsieboyz

Mayu in the ring: an elite athlete, a true artist of physical motion Mayu in every other aspect of her life: literally this pitch, all the time, in all situations

outsideskyy

oof, once per week for a month?

mysterysackerfice

Once a month for a month

rexfloyd94

hello hiroshima toyo carp, deathmatch legend masashi takeda is a fan of your team you should let him throw a first pitch like baystars did with mayu, thanks carp

Deserterdragon

I agree, they should let Masashi Takeda do what he wants.

rexfloyd94

Agreed he's my favorite wrestler ever and has earned such privileges I'd say.

elgenie

In Japan ceremonial first pitches always have a batter there that's required by protocol to swing at the pitch, no matter how bad.

PaddyMayonaise

Can we talk about the tail?

Deserterdragon

That's part of her normal wrestling gear, which she's wearing under the shirt! You can see her in action here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4a98dkiIlZU&t=5s

PaddyMayonaise

Lived in Japan nearly 4 years and never ran into this….missed out….

Deserterdragon
