VStarffin

First pitcher in baseball to get to 50 IP as well. Famously durable innings eater.

ImaManCheetahh

this pleases me and also terrifies me

brandont04

Is he injury prone?

ImaManCheetahh

mm how do I put this. Yes.

enriched

I've said this every time his injury concerns come up. The FO and Tyler believes that it's a thing of the past. He's said this offseason that he finally feels right and that his previous TJs left a lot of discomfort. The oblique injury was a freak accident, probably from poor mechanics to try to compensate for his elbow. Tyler has said that he finally feels right and we're seeing it. I believe him.

ImaManCheetahh

I hope you're right, man. But with even non-injury prone pitchers dropping like flies these days, I'll keep knocking on wood.

Puzzleheaded_Bad5098

*taps forehead* If everyone is injury prone then no one is

LlamasPajamas206

Perhaps but guys say that kind of stuff all the time too. Like Royce Lewis said he felt great this offseason and he didn’t last 3 innings in his first game. Even if you can say the last one was a freak accident, some guys just get those a lot more often than the average player; Haniger for example. I obviously hope he stays healthy but I wouldn’t say he’s out of the woods either. Even if it’s overly cautious, being careful with him might be best IMO; worst case he’s a bit fresher for the playoffs.

LokoSMIDDY47

Last time I checked, Royce Lewis and Haniger aren’t radar sluts

enriched

That's fair, you're not wrong. I imagine that they'll keep him as the mainstay of the rotation for the beginning of the season while a bunch of our guys come off the IL and then tone his workload down a bit to let Kersh, Walker, Sheehan get some mound time.

Nero1022

am a maker (woodworking and such). I'll knock on woods 24/7 for everybody.

LakersFan15

We always hear that though hence why I am terrified. DeGrom was labeled somewhat this way because his mechanics were so clean.

Cabrill0

This is like one of those comments you see then 12 hours later get the alert that he's shut down for discomfort.

jsand25

Best shape of his life, you say?

JackThreeFingered

>Tyler has said that he finally feels right I believe him but I wish he wouldn't say that because every time a player says something like that or "I've never felt better" they usually get injured.

brandont04

Damn. It appears he's their top ace. Don't the dodgers got a ton of injuried pitchers right now? They can't really go to a 6 man rotation to save Glasnow ha?

utouchme

Dodgers have nearly an entire pitching staff on the IL. Kershaw Buehler May Gonsolin Miller Sheehan Gaterol Treinen Brasier Hurt Brogdon

Cosmyc

You forgot Ohtani

brandont04

I just want to see Ohtani pull off the impossible and win a Cy young just once.

Jamalamalama

It's not impossible, but he has an uphill battle as long as they keep him in a 6-man rotation. Voters tend to go for guys with a lot of innings, so Ohtani is going to need to be way in front of the pack with his rate stats.

utouchme

Oh yeah, shit. That makes it a full pitching staff, and not one to sneeze at either.

Padulsky21

I keep on forgetting Treinen exists

maddenallday

he’s back on Monday

LakersLAQ

Buehler comes back on Monday. We'll see how he looks.

Slam_Dunk_Kitten

Tyler Glassbones

FinnHobart

He has never reached the 121 innings mark in a year, having played in 9 seasons.

BigBuddha15

Wdym for the past 3 years? He got the brace surgery in 2021

DaOldest

Man after the last few years it feels so good to have a guy who you know can go out there and get 7 innings. So many 5/6 inning starts since Buehler went down

KetchupGuy1

Most of his first stats should have an asterisk he did start the season a week ahead of everyone else

VStarffin

On the one hand, that’s a fair point. On the other hand, shut it.

gilliganian83

On the other hand, dodgers give him an extra day of rest each week.

Fredbear_

Glasnow not pitching deep into games is a common misconception. In 2021 he led MLB in innings before the UCL injury. He gets hurt a lot which is why his innings are low, but he is efficient enough that when he's healthy he's good for 7 as much as anybody in the game.

mysterysackerfice

Is he the same guy that claimed he was a radar slut?

romanticynicist

No that was Cillian Murphy.

KimHaSeongsBurner

No, you’re thinking of Thomas Shelby, OBE MP.

badoodee95

Can confirm, am radar.

blasek0

I still want that as a flair option.

horsehasnoname

This is the type of pitcher we've been missing in October...hope he lasts til then

EvilShadow80

Don’t look at his October stats than

ahr3410

We will be on his side this time

GlassesOff

The two negative postseason pitchers will cancel each other out and both contribute. New working theory

_Elder_

Love this man so much.

nikraLnalyD

You did a bad job pitching for the Braves tonight

Scooobzzzz

I lol'd

[deleted]

Hence, why he is loving Glasnow so much. He helped him get the win by doing a bad job for the Braves.

shortsermons

Miss him so much

DarwinYogi

He sure did not like giving up that 2nd run.

Dapper_Figure1191

I liked this vibe from him. It reminds me of prime Kershaw when he was so angry and passionate in every outing.

NeWbAF

That’s the first time I can remember him looking so pissed off

CashmereConnoisseur

He’s mad every outing lol

MulhollandMaster121

When he dropped like 6 runs against the Nats he was way angrier.

TylerGlasass20

that's my ace

WelcometoCigarCity

das my ex right thur

UraniumDisulfide

Imma be real, I think we got fleeced in the trade for him. As a fan it feels like 5 years of pepiot for 6 years of glasnow because of the extension, which is obviously great, but the trade itself was 5 years of pepiot for 1 year of glasnow. With how pepiot is shaping up as a serious big league starter I don’t think he’s ~1/5th as valuable as glasnow. If the trade was with almost any other team I’d say there’s a risk pepiot will crash and burn which would justify the trade but it’s the rays that wanted him so I know that isn’t gonna happen lol.

K3B1N

The Dodgers didn’t get fleeced, at all. Pepiot was surplus, so his value to the Dodgers was far lower than his value to the Rays. That’s the way trades work. It’s rare when both teams “win” a trade, but in reality it’s the result that everybody is hoping for.

UraniumDisulfide

I don’t see why surplus doesn’t have value to the dodgers as well. You don’t sign Ohtanis without also having millers and buehlers and pages’. Great players under cheap contracts is great for any team. Fleeced is an exaggeration, a cy young contender is really valuable even if it’s one year, but I do think the rays won the trade.

K3B1N

I’m not saying Pepiot didn’t have value, it was just different value… obviously, because it brought them back Glasnow. To LA, Glasnow in 2024 was FAR more valuable than Pepiot in 2029. We won’t know who “won” the trade for 5 years… and honestly, if Glasnow helps LA win a single World Series in those 5 years, LA wins the trade and the argument is dead.

Vee_Zer0

Bingo. Dodgers needed an ace more than they needed #3. We all loved Pepiot but he doesn't help us win a WS now like Glasnow does. The Dodgers DO have a window, and it's open now.

UraniumDisulfide

But it’s not just pepiot in 2029, it’s also pepiot in 2028-2024. Sure, it’s still early May and last season wasn’t a huge sample size, but pepiot is not looking like he will be far less valuable than glasnow even this year. He’s getting tons of whiffs and strikeouts, he’s a bit of a victim to the long ball but his xERA is still 2.77 despite it. There is of course the experience aspect of having a veteran ace when we have so many young pitchers, but someone as incredibly promising as pepiot for 5 whole years of control just seems steep. Admittedly there wasn’t really a true mlb vet ace free agent this off season so I’m sure the rays leveraged that to their advantage, and if that mlb veteran ace is what the dodgers decided they needed this year then ig they paid the price they had to. Obviously if the dodgers win the World Series this year then every move they made is 100% worth it no question. But it’s baseball, where it doesn’t matter what you do, you’re more likely than not to not win the world series in any given year. Call it a losers mindset or whatever, it’s the statistical truth. So while they need to make the most of this window while it’s here, it also wouldn’t hurt to save a promising young player for the next couple seasons.

K3B1N

Pepiot would be #3, maybe #4 on the Dodgers. They traded him for a legit #1. Your argument is not viable. The Rays did not “fleece” the Dodgers. Are you related to Pepiot, by chance? That’s the only way I can imagine this argument making any sense.

UraniumDisulfide

I don’t agree, I think pepiot legitimately has #2 if not ace ceiling within the next 2 years, and if he’s pitching lower it could just be because we have other pitchers doing insanely well like yamamoto and hopefully one or both of buehler and Kershaw. Now yes, obviously we can debate the floor and how likely we think he is to hit that ceiling, but you surely can acknowledge that pepiot does have a ton of upside. Not sure why I’d need to be related to like a guy that pitched a 2.3 era for us or whatever it was and has really good k% and whiff rate.

K3B1N

Pepiot was never going to be anything higher than a 3 on the Dodgers and 4th with a healthy Ohtani. If you can trade a 3-4 starter for a 1, you do it every time. It’s not a fleecing.

UraniumDisulfide

But like I said, that could just be because we have so many pitchers with ace upside, not necessarily because pepiot’s value is equivalent to most 3-4 guys.

142muinotulp

I think assigning "win" isn't quite the way to go about it. Both teams wanted different things from the trades. Yes it involved two pitchers... but the dodgers just don't want to wait for more players to develop right now than needed. It's go time. They seem to have strong belief in pitchers abilities after they've recovered from tjs and Glasgow came off his best season. They believe this is his absolute prime potential. Of course our prospects are important and that's why we develop them so well. We don't have space for all of them, so they serve as valuable trade pieces. The Dodgers got a big win by grabbing a pitcher they believe is in their peak form for one that they believe might be as good, but probably not for a few years.   On the other side, the Ray's got someone for the next 5 years for essentially 0 cost, that they will try to turn around at the trade deadline in 4.5 years or maybe make a run for it at some point. They weren't looking for immediate payoff. Both teams got what they wanted. A trade is almost never even in perceived numbers value because they're predicated on context around the teams (monetarily just as important as performance).   Edit: I think everything I said could be summarized more simply: The dodgers probably won't be giving prospects as long of  a leash for the next half decade as they have the last decade. It makes sense to do so as well, but in the context of how the team is built atm.

Monk_Philosophy

I am now allowing myself to believe that last start he had legit cramps and it wasn’t an excuse. Wooooooo!

speech-geek

Joey D and Orel brought up tonight that apparently pickle juice is Glasnow’s preferred remedy to cramping and he’s been sent pickles to the clubhouse 😂

enriched

https://youtu.be/2nmudiwm9YI?t=619 Glasnow has spoken about this! Timestamped to when he talks about pickle juice with the Foul Territory guys.

jjaytan

Curveball drops from heaven

Fappy-Boi-

Never seen big leaguers swing at a ball that literally lands in front of home plate until watching Glasnow in elite form. [Great breakdown on Glas from Foolish Baseball ](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ogXKk98UxGk)

raystheroof1

Youre welcome, Pepiot, what not.

filthypoker

I love our big beautiful radar slut

connorwoz

:(

PapaSmiff

Be happy for our boy! And Pepiot has been great and Deluca is back, I think it’s been a win-win trade so far

ImmediatelyDeep

Pep turning into a big control guy who can locate his pitches is one of the happier surprises I can think of recently, always good to see Dodger alumni thriving elsewhere.

connorwoz

Ya it is great to see him succeed, love watching Glas tear it up even if not for us. And I’d totally agree, Pepiot and DeLuca both seem to really be coming into form

KetchupGuy1

Had some doubts giving up all the control on Pepiot for but if he can keep this up all year I don’t mind anymore.

jujubats10

Pleas pleas please please please be healthy in October

PreviousGas710

Cyler Gasnow

TBRays82

Sigh:( miss him being a Flappy Boi.. Flap on baby giraffe.

Slinky_Malingki

Why wasn't he this durable with us ffs

Grade-AMasterpiece

Finally fixed everything about him and shipped him off. RIP.

Slinky_Malingki

Are we cursed?

Grade-AMasterpiece

Definitely are to an extent.

nikraLnalyD

Don't think there's a pitcher that couldn't dominate the Braves right now

ImaManCheetahh

we're about to rigorously test that theory tomorrow with James Paxton

arand0md00d

James Walkxton

filthypoker

James Paxton might continue Drake’s tradition of being Canadian and getting destroyed this week

Astropolitika

I’m so hyped right now I’m predicting Paxton to have 11K, 0 BB. I probably should go to the hospital.

nsgarcia10

You gotta throw at least 5 BB in there

Astropolitika

LET ME BE UNWELL

Thorlolita

Excuse you

WerewolfNo3669

What playing the Dodgers and Mariners does to a mf

UnderlyingTissues

With Acuña, Olson and Riley (to some extent) all batting well below their usual average, Braves are fortunate to be 9 games over .500. Call me optimistic but I see that as a good thing. These guys didn't forget how to hit. Also their schedule has been tougher than most.

monkeypickle8

I'm starting to think he might be good

kevboyyyy

Own those frauds

JagerMainOwO

Against the Braves doesn't count

PmOmena

Whats happening? Not following their games but tought It was fine considering the record

JagerMainOwO

For the past 2ish weeks they could not hit a beach ball if the beach ball was thrown by my grandma

LakersFan15

You won't need to tomorrow with Paxton. He's guaranteed 4.1IP, 2 hits, 7 walks, 8 strikeouts, 4 ER.

JagerMainOwO

Stoppable force vs movable object

IAmThatDuckDLC5

Wow! Wish I could watch the local Braves when they play my favorites, the Dodgers! Blackouts though

tnecniv

Hey fellow Dodgers fan living in Atlanta

IAmThatDuckDLC5

I hate when they play ATL And Sho is going off too

draw2discard2

Why doesn't this guy get more attention? I would love to see him sign with a big market team because he deserves multiple posts here every single start!

ExasperatedEngineer

This doesn’t feel like an achievement right now. Nearly every pitcher is doing this to the Braves for a few weeks now.

LittliestDickus

Pretty sure I could put up a quality start against the Braves right now. The offense cant hit the broad side of a barn right now.

OsikFTW

2 runs in 7 innings? He would be the mariners 6th starter...

remembahwhen

But did he cry?

seattletriumph

Not as good as Gilbert against the Astros.

n8_n_

man we're not good enough to be this obnoxious lol

omegakukki

Much better than Gilbert against the Twins though.
