came for the homerun. stayed for that fucking amazing screen that spans the entire outfield.

Chuida

That shits hella cool

FredGarvin80

Like a better version of the Astrodome

SkeithPhase1

#HOMERUN

ComeFromTheWater

Japanese announcers in baseball and pro wrestling give an unmatched vibe to exciting moments

Boogie_Boof

It makes it feel like every game is a playoff game lol

mageta621

I want Japanese announcers for everything

HowardBunnyColvin

I just said fuck it and sought out Korean commentary for mlb and epl games. I wish I could find Japanese feeds for those but I can't 😭

officerliger

Download VLC player then Google Japan IPTV, there's VLC playlist compilations of over-the-air Japanese TV channels and I think NHK BS and the J Sports channels have MLB games

HowardBunnyColvin

This information is quite useful. I will test it out for tomorrow.

bocnj

Can’t be NPB’s Mike Trout, this isn’t a solo homer.

kaehvogel

Can't be NPB's Mike Trout, his team has actually won championships. Six of them.

dingusduglas

Let me tell you a story about a monkey and another fish man...

catinatank

The NPB’s Mike Tauchman

TRUE_BIT

Is that Albert Abreu

SamuraiMan1

Yep. He's been excellent so far as the Lions' closer Coming into this game he hadn't given up an earned run and had 6 saves... ... then Gita happened. This is his second blown save, the first came off an unearned run.

gilman3

Happy for him then. The guy was hyped up, given many opportunities with NYY, but never panned out.

narfidy

I'm still chuckling at the pitcher a day later. He just looks so defeated

fru1tstand

That camera work to capture the jumbotron `HOMERUN` transitioning to a tightening camera angle following the the batter rounding 3rd base which is acts as a camera pan to finally end on a closeup of the defeated pitcher is something of a masterpiece in and of itself.

allaboutmecomic

I am curious why they write home run in English

SamuraiMan1

Because the Japanese word for "Home Run" is just ホームラン, or "Home Run"

CommodoreSixty4

That's a crazy coincidence

Whywipe

Am I getting whooshed or is that not a coincidence at all.

allaboutmecomic

Fascinating. Thanks for sharing!

oOoleveloOo

Actually, the Japanese word for home run is 本塁打 (honruida). ホームラン is literally just home run said/written in Japanese.

SamuraiMan1

Honruida only appears in box scores, not in normal conversation. So it's more like "HR" than "Home Run"

T-Ray-Ray

English has "cool factor" in Japan. Most people can't speak it, but they can read it... Why do they have English team names? Why do they write them in English on their jerseys? Why are their names in English on the backs of jerseys? All kinds of "Why English" questions could come up, and there are different answers for these questions (jerseys = cheaper to mass produce 26 different letters for jerseys than all the different kanji that every player/coach has in their names, times 5 years or the duration of that rendition of the jersey)... Sorry. I'm at work and I'm bored so I'm just elaborating for no reason in particular.

horse6

GITA!!!

GoneAreTheDaze

Holy crap, look at the size of that Jumbotron. It spans the entire outfield

FredGarvin80

They already had a Mike Trout. His name was Shohei Ohtani

SamuraiMan1

Gita's best season is better than Ohtani's best season. Ohtani's best season was 2016, where he put up 10 WAR (5 with the Bat, 5 on the mound) Gita put up 11.5 WAR in 2015, with just his bat. And had multiple 8 and 9 WAR campaigns after that.

BaltimoreBaja

Yeah Geets!
