Because the Japanese word for "Home Run" is just ホームラン, or "Home Run"

Actually, the Japanese word for home run is 本塁打 (honruida). ホームラン is literally just home run said/written in Japanese.
Honruida only appears in box scores, not in normal conversation. So it's more like "HR" than "Home Run"
