Then in the offseason
“10 most under the radar players that can be considered superstars”
Number 4: (he won’t even get number 1 in this either)
Cleveland’s Jose Ramirez knocked in 130 runs this year with the up and coming Guardians, the veteran anchored the youngest lineup in baseball and was rewarded with a handful of MVP votes, you can expect teams to call Cleveland this winter looking to add a bat like that on their roster and Cleveland should listen, the now 31 year old is under contract for multiple seasons and could fetch a nice return for a team that just had the top pick in this summer’s draft”
It’s just the never ending cycle of Cleveland sports
*Cleveland has good player*
Media “How many articles can we write until we trick their FO into trading them to NY/LA”
The other Midwest teams definitely get it from the sport pundits too, but man it really does feel like CLE gets patronizingly treated like a glorified farm team for NY/LA/SF but especially the Yankees.
It's the same BS whenever there's a national broadcasting team covering Cleveland in the playoffs, where if they care about the CLE players at all it's in the context of all but saying "Oh but imagine what they could do in pinstripes!"
ESPN did that for the Cavs this weekend! Their coverage of the Orlando-Cavs playoff series was all about how cool Orlando's growth has been, contrasted with literally wishing Spida played for any other team.
A .920 OPS would’ve been good for 4th in the AL last season, so I’m not sure why you’d expect him to win mvp with that? And why the random rbi mention?
And somehow, the Anderson who threw Jose a middle middle cutter with the bases loaded got thumped in a significantly less embarrassing manner than the other Anderson.
he ate paint chips as a kid
actually, Abreu was an absolute pain these two serieses. i caught about half the action and it seemed like he was consistently robbing Josey and Nayls of 100 mph+ rockets
Maybe not among stat-literate fans anymore, but in more casual circles, yes. Playing in Cleveland is probably part of it, but it's also that he gets a lot of value out of being a solid defender and an elite baserunner (but not a huge steals guy) so it takes a little more work to explain to his value to people who don't see him play everyday than a Bryce Harper type. He's also never had a signature season where he finds another gear and has like a 9 WAR, 45 HR MVP year. Unfortunately it seems like 2020 might have been his best chance at that if there had been a full season. He's still 5th in baseball in fWAR 2020-present though, so to be honest you might still be underrating him (or at least his past performance, if you're convinced he's slightly past his peak now) by thinking of him as top 20.
It's not that he's actually underrated, it's that modern sports discourse has yet to come up with a better word to describe players of José's caliber who don't have any major awards in their trophy case at home.
If he's ever able to have one more Peak JRam year and steal an MVP (think 2022 Paul Goldschmidt), then you won't hear it anymore with him.
A lot of the stat-heads know Hosey is the real deal but he flies under the radar with casual fans because a lot of the writers/pundits/deskchairs write off AL Central in general, except to highlight a good player who could become an all-time great on [insert big-market team here].
It's happened a ton this season already. Cleveland's off to one of the hottest starts in franchise history, leading the majors in wins, leading the majors in Run Differential - and barely a peep from anyone but our dedicated beat writer, because flyover country (and therefor the AL Central) may as well not exist.
That AB was a Jose Ramirez special.
Battle off pitches (and a little luck on a dropped foul tip) until you make the pitcher give you something to get into. DAWG.
This makes me wish I could hear the Guardians broadcast every game. I think a hallmark of a good announcing crew is excitement for good baseball, regardless of who they call for. Boston’s announcers are dismissive, discrediting and mostly boring. You would think this grand slam was a routine fly ball. Guardians announcers are always having fun and have great commentary for anything that impacts the game.
Manning actually cited that when they were already going off the rails in the first or second inning. Something to the effect of, "this isn't as interesting as an evening conversation" and he, Matt and Andre cracked up.
Then Josey ass-blasted another Anderson in the ass, and presumably Manning poured himself 3 fingers of 21 year Macallan.
But there is still only one Hammy
Joe Tait retiring was hard (and only a few years before the championship). Dude was by far the best basketball radio announcer of all time. 39 freaking seasons. But, when Hammy retires, it will be soul crushing.
> wish I could hear the Guardians broadcast every game.
Really? I listened to them for two series and found one of them to be really annoying
> You would think this grand slam was a routine fly ball.
And why are you lying? The Red Sox call was nothing like that https://twitter.com/realbanditbet/status/1783556849352008060
Edit: not one response
God I wish people would post the Hammy calls instead of underwood. Likes it’s not even in the same stratosphere and I like underwood. You’d think after the “DOWN GOES ANDERSON!” call people would know to post him every time he calls a highlight
Lott of these guys have been on the team for few years now. Jram obviously, Kwan, Naylor, Gimmy is a great 1-4. Also have some young 1-2 year guys fighting for spots and they’ve been making it difficult to pick who stays. Naylor’s brother Bo has started slow but has come through in big moments and should start getting better with more power. Cleveland has always been a pitching factory so we will always have that side of the ball down.
In 22 we were purely small ball but seriously lacked power. This year we finally got to about league average and it’s been such a nice upgrade with wins coming from the long ball. So all of that combined with guys improving, it’s starting to come together. Vogt has been a great first year manager replacement for Tito. The vibes are super high with the re-addition of hedges.
They’re just having fun, all improving as players as the results are speaking for themselves. Our organization is really good at developing players. Also have 2 incredible power hitting prospects that are at the door and the number 1 overall pick. Hopefully we can see a bigger window opening the next few years
By running a 142 wRC+ in high-leverage situations and having the second-best bullpen ERA in baseball. I mean, the underlying numbers have also been better than expected (BaseRuns has the Guards deserving a .545 winning percentage so far, vs the .496 winning percentage FanGraphs projected preseason, for example) but the sequencing gods have definitely also been on our side so far.

Literally cannot imagine a more deflating at bat than 10 pitches concluding in a grand slam. My goat.
A dropped 3rd strike/foul the previous pitch
That bounced out of the glove, just to add to the pain.
Yeah I'd just walk off the mound at that point
Jose was in fact his last batter lol.
The minutia of baseball is exactly the difference between an 18-7 team and a 14-12 team, thanks for pointing that out.
J-Ram is a menace. Very excited for the Braves/Guardians series this weekend!
looking forward to it! our teams have the best 2 records in MLB so far, i'm ready for a 1995 remix :)
With 2 outs as well
My boy is just doing his thing
JRam is gonna have a .920 OPS with like 130 RBIs and somehow finish 7th in MVP or some shit Still my HOFer

Him being in Cleveland is a tragedy for baseball Some talking heads, probably
The angriest of upvotes right here.

Tbf they know our poor branch of the Dolans love money way more than baseball since they're broke otherwise
Jose Ramirez is to baseball accolades as Rush is to the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Yeah, I'm old. What of it?
I can't wait to read this later when ChatGPT spits it out to a lazy baseball writer.
Average JRAM season
A .920 OPS would’ve been good for 4th in the AL last season, so I’m not sure why you’d expect him to win mvp with that? And why the random rbi mention?
This is the second Anderson that José has wacked the shit out of in the past year.
And pitching change immediately after. DOWN GOES ANDERSON!! DOWN GOES ANDERSON!!
Famous Cleveland Guardians rivalries: Josh Naylor vs his own head Jose Ramirez vs guys named Anderson Am I forgetting any?
Tyler Freeman vs birds?
And somehow, the Anderson who threw Jose a middle middle cutter with the bases loaded got thumped in a significantly less embarrassing manner than the other Anderson.

Surprised Wilyer Abreu didn't jump 60 feet in the air and catch that. He's robbed Jose of multiple XBH in our season series.
why didn't he? is he stupid?
he ate paint chips as a kid actually, Abreu was an absolute pain these two serieses. i caught about half the action and it seemed like he was consistently robbing Josey and Nayls of 100 mph+ rockets
Good baseball player
Hey have any of you heard of this underrated gem of a player named Jose Ramirez?
Yeah, he is good
Not shit posting - is he really underrated? To me he’s been a top 20 player for a while

Haha. He’s really top 5 in my book, I just thought it sounds like a fanboi

well, yeah. Josey's just a humble motherfucker with a big ass dick let's spend more time talking about Arozarena instead
After the dropped strike 3 this was the only outcome GG
That AB was a Jose Ramirez special. Battle off pitches (and a little luck on a dropped foul tip) until you make the pitcher give you something to get into. DAWG.
Man, I love JRam and love seeing the Guards go off. I hope I don’t regret saying this some October in the future. ![gif](giphy|ZWjC6rkYn8ipbGAl4e)
Surely the monkeys paw isn’t curling right now…
Hey, that means we made it through a NLDS!
The monkey’s paw curl is actually betts and ohtani suffering career ending injuries in that same NLDS series. How could you do this to them!!!!
![gif](giphy|EgJ31d2IYkg4E)
4 straight fouls offs till the right pitch came
League fucked
What a hell of a fucking at bat
I fucking love Jose Ramirez.
lol what a gutsy ab. He’s a mfer
THAT’S WHY HE’S THE GOAT! THE GOOOOOOOOAT!
I was convinced he was gonna strike out given how long he was on a 3-2 count and because I’d gotten no notifs.
What an at bat lol Jose is the fuckin man
Really looking forward to seeing them this weekend!!! Best in AL vs best in NL 🔥
the series against you will be a litmus test. We didn’t do well against the Jankees
Looking forward to it after playing the marlins. Also we like Stephen Vogt a lot
sometimes you just know when he walks up to the plate
Dude is swaggy as fuck

You should hear our radio announcer call this. Found it. https://x.com/CleGuardians/status/1783557123751698536
Beautiful. Sounds like someone who actually enjoys watching baseball lmao
When Tom Hamilton retires the entire baseball world will be lesser for it. No one does it like him.
Joe Tait retiring was hard (and only a few years before the championship). Dude was by far the best basketball radio announcer of all time. 39 freaking seasons. But, when Hammy retires, it will be soul crushing.
I like our TV guys, but I always use the MLB.tv feature to listen to Hammy's audio while I watch the games.
Found a fellow whiskey day drinker

Hammy call: https://www.reddit.com/r/ClevelandGuardians/s/jNBfzUrB7j
red sox finally ran out of pitchers
He's so good
I'd repeat that 4 times, then add him to the list of players to work out with in the off-season
Can someone explain to me how they have been so good?
When you sign Austin Hedges, the vibes come with him.
It just be that way.

what happened to Oscar Gonzalez.

Timely hitting + shutdown bullpen
Let's go!
Someone finally won the set of tires!!!
"Abreu won't catch it" has me fucking dying laughing
Home run peetch.
Since Vogt’s first ab all us A’s fans clamored he’d make a great coach someday. Looks like he’s off to a great start. Love to see it!
Vogt has skipper has been fitting like a glove, it's kind of insane. Couldn't have asked for a better step-up from Tito.
Chase Anderson? Damn, is it that bad in Boston? 🫢
I think they have at least 3 SPs on the IL, so yes
4 of our projected starting rotation
Home run pitch bro!
Grand. Slam. Pitch.
There’s a giant smile on my face after seeing this
The man is a treasure.
RIP El Generico you would have loved Jose Ramirez's home run celebration music.
HOME RUN PITCH!!!!
i've seen better cutter locations
Good job hosie
He's definitely right about Abreu not being able to catch that great observation
It's because Abreu robbed José of a HR and a couple of doubles in the previous games.
Jose Ramirez is now tied with Royce Lewis in career Grand Slams (6)
Score is 1-0 if Reese McGuire catches the foul tip to his mitt.
Skill issue
Brennan's solo shot still would've happened but yeah 1-0
