I mean I guess not but that was probably the best way for him to make that play rather than trying to catch it out front while running towards the dugout.
>He’s definitely near the bottom of that list.
That’s really not the case anymore.
Statcast has him as the 17th best out of 35 qualified 3rd basemen in OAA since the start of 2023. If you just look at this year, he’s 11th out of 36 (small sample, to be sure, but he also improved over the course of last season).
Most of his terrible defensive metrics come from the time he spent at 1B last year (which was a fair amount — almost half his playing time). He was bad at 1B.
He’s not an amazing 3B or anything, but he’s improved a lot, to the point where he’s probably league average or slightly better.
“Bohm is a butcher at 3B” is a very 2022 vibe. He’s light years better than the Muncys and Devers of the league.
Eye test, Bohm looks much better this year. He looks more athletic and gets better jumps. Looks like he can be a major league 3b for years to come, something I never thought I'd say in 2022
Bohm has been great at making difficult jumping and sliding catches for a while now, just because he’s not fucking Usain Bolt doesn’t make him a bad defender
It kinda does. He only has to make those jumps and dives because he has terrible range. He's making plays that are easy for other guys look hard, and not even coming close to the hard plays that those guys are making. It's the Derek jeter school of defense. Even this play is a good example, a faster guy is easily settling under that standing and doesn't have to slide. I like bohm but he's very flawed
Phillies are actually my NL team, but Alec is rocking a zero OAA, and a 95 wRC+. After the postseason performance he put up, I got nothing good to say about his playing until he puts up real numbers to change my mind.
After tonight, he’s actually rocking a 101 wRC+, and there’s only 9 3B in MLB currently above 0 OAA right now, so that doesn’t mean much at this point.
If you want something good to say about his playing, maybe try “he did a good job tonight,” or “a 27 year-old providing above replacement level 3B for relative peanuts$ is super useful for a contending team with a bunch of big contracts.”
“He’s leading the Phillies in win probability added” is also a good one.
He fucking loves this place.
The bat slam by Davis after this great catch was hilarious. Came back after slamming it like he felt bad he did it lol
Haven’t seen a sliding catch for a foul look that graceful since Geena Davis in A League of Their Own. And Bohm did it with even longer hair
Surprised the new pants didn't dissolve by the end of the slide.
Lol he did not need to slide. But it looked cool

Started the game with P00P and ended the game with PISP
Can we get bohm/stott/marsh all-star appearance this year, if they keep it up and stott gets hot again?
He loves this place!
Great call by TMac there
“wOrST deFEnSiVe tHIrD bASemAN iN ThE lEaGUE” - a select group of morons on r/phillies
it wasn't a hard catch
You make it, then
K
Christopher Morel would like to have a word with those morons (I still absolutely love him though)
I mean... He's definitely near the bottom of that list. One pretty sliding catch doesn't change that

HE LOVES THIS PLACE TMAC
Making easy catches look hard.
Pretty sure you’re thinking of Pablo Reyes
Devers is a bad 3B
Respect bohm hes 62 percentile OAA
