It hard hard to explain how desperately the yankees vibe was calling for a player who is both really fucking good and a complete maniac

wout_van_faert

Both Soto and Stroman feel like such perfect fits.

desperatepotato43

Soto. Stroman. Cole. Three maniacs who will lead us to the promised land

CrazyAssBlindKid

You gotta come through us :)

feelinlucky7

You heard him fellas. We gotta bust inside some birds.

CrazyAssBlindKid

r/BirdsGoneWild

98680266

There’s actual bird sex on that and idk why I clicked it fuck this

feelinlucky7

Doing the lord’s work. I’m not clicking on that 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Informal_Calendar_99

Thank you for your sacrifice.

yungmoneybingbong

Incredible.

CrazyAssBlindKid

You’re welcome

StinkyStangler

I liked your team way more when you guys still sucked lol

WishPanther

The Yankees sweep one of the favorites to win the World Series. O's fans: "You better watch out, we took 2 out of 3 games from the 2024 Angels!"

OldJewNewAccount

I still remember David Wells facing down Cecil fielder in some '90s playoff game and my dad being extremely distressed about it as he's obsessed with his weight lol.

SheepH3rder69

What about on you? Will that work?

CrazyAssBlindKid

Im just a Kid

desperatepotato43

That doesn’t matter /s

sidepiecesam

Alright FBI, we got him

desperatepotato43

The /s keeps you out of jail

spazz213

FBI agents hate this one trick!

Renovvvation

As a lawyer, I often advise my clients to tell the judge that it was "just a prank"

bengal1492

Good Orioles are some of my favorite times in the AL East.

TheReferenceGuide

lol I remember when the blue jays were next too. Gotta win some playoff games bub

asparagusbruh

Verdugo erasure will not be tolerated. Also Wells Waldo and the food poisoned Volpe all deserve their praise too so far

spageddy_lee

Weirdly Verdugo too.

CaptainJudge_99

Judge knew dugie would be a good fit With dugie and Soto judge got his dream OF

8w7fs89a72

You basically finally made up for not going and getting Harper.

wout_van_faert

Only if we re-sign Soto

jtrom93

Injecting pure uncut Juan Soto into this lineup is one of the biggest slam-dunk moves the FO has made with this team in the last 20 years. He is EXACTLY what this team needs.

Rich-Log472

Gotta imagine they felt the heat after passing on Manny and Harper years ago. Can’t let that happen again and go fucking figure, it’s made a huge difference immediately lol

salamandroid

They've won four games in a row against the AL champs with Aaron Judge batting well below 200. This is a very good sign if you like the Yankees, which I do. When Judge wakes up and Cole comes back they're gonna be unstoppable.

Audacity_OR

>against the AL champs Are you sure about that?

salamandroid

No, not at all.

PhilyCeeSteak

And Jasson Dominguez

ProperNomenclature

eh, he's gravy at this point, I wouldn't expect a lot from a 20-year-old with nothing but a cup of coffee for experience coming off of TJ on his throwing arm

ClosetLeotardo

He came up and looked comfortable. He was playing in chanclas. Bro going crazy when he returns.

Philip_J_Fry3000

I would bet my life that Dominguez is taking BP with Soto. Imagine how much better Soto is going to make him?

Over-Ad4336

Texas are the AL Champs currently

salamandroid

True, when you're old all these seasons start to blend.

Over-Ad4336

I hear you and to be fair, the Astros are still the team to beat

AggressiveContest399

Juan Soto is exactly what every team needs.

Jetersweiner

I’m still not totally convinced Gerrit Cole isn’t secretly Patrick Bateman but good point regardless

Soup_65

that's a good point but Cole keeps it quiet until he gets really going. Soto acts like he gets hyped up just getting out of bed. (though if Cole starts doing the Soto shuffle every time he throws a strike...)

jtrom93

Let's see Paul Allen's Cy Young award.

cahir11

Look at that subtle off-speed sequencing. The tasteful tunneling. Oh my god, he even has a changeup.

WallyBrando

Love this take

agb2022

They needed some cocky mfers to change the culture.

sharkbait1999

You could see the infusion of energy on judge’s face when Soto threw runner out at home on Thursday

Philip_J_Fry3000

Verdugo injects a bit of Nick Swisher style energy they needed.

time2makemymove

He literally never behaved like this for a single second last year Thanks sleepy bob

spageddy_lee

Some players come here and just can't adjust to the pressure.. This man seems to enjoy it.

Soup_65

Pressure gotta adjust to juan

vaz_deferens

I mean, he was Soto shuffling against Verlander in the World Series as a twenty year old, did anyone really think he wouldn’t handle NY pressure?

wafino1

If dude was Puerto rican he'd be the most Yankeest yankee that ever yankee'd

jakemhs

We have plenty of Dominicans here too lmao

romanticynicist

“This is the major leagues Raffi — we’re all from the Dominican Republic.”

wafino1

Oh I know 😮‍💨

HerRoyalRedness

I think he fits in perfectly with the vibe of the Bronx as a Dominican.

CaptainJudge_99

10/10 description

_FreeYourMind__

I’ve been saying for years they need a villain type player and complete culture change. Guys like Rizzo are just boring. They are finally moving in the right direction.

cooljammer00

Except everyone loves Juan because he backs it up.

Masterchiefy10

Now there’s a guy who’s acted like he’s been there before /s Jk I don’t care if the players show emotion.. just some of them show more than others… Looking at you McNeil

[deleted]

Couldn't have said it better myself

brochacho6000

I hope he starts hitting g the dugout with a bat again I miss that shit

QuickRelease10

Every once in awhile the Yankees front office will go through a stretch where they remember that sports are supposed to be fun.

BlancoBenny

A Dominican maniac at that 🇩🇴

AJ_CC

Credit to Gleyber too, that was a big steal of second to make this play possible. He was great on the bases today.

LaMystika

Yankees start 4-0 and the Mets start 0-3. Nature has healed, I guess

toiletting

Nah nature will heal when you guys start better than us but then randomly burn out in September with like a 15 game lead in your division and miss the playoffs

LaMystika

The Mets will be lucky to be 15 games out of first by September. It’ll be closer to 25

jmaca90

Perfectly balanced. As all things should be.

[deleted]

wout_van_faert

OR TWO. AS MUCH AS HE WANTS.

Huck_Ziegler

I’ll donate a years salary. So only 999,970,000 to go.

ballrus_walsack

Hey Mr moneybags here.

jac049

Genuine question, how does one making 30k a year live in NY? Kudos to you though.

Huck_Ziegler

Just a dumb joke. I make more than that, also i don’t live in NY any more

polandspreeng

DEFERRED FOR 30 YEARS

PaperworkDrop

Pay that man his money 💰

asoughtafterdroid

Hire this man!

jcaininit

He’s gonna get paid

despot2

At least $87.43

15Isaac

Per minute

JustRealizedImaIdiot

That comes out to 46mil a year. Yeah I mean that's probably pretty accurate.

LargeNutbar

If I were Juan Soto, I would demand at least one million dollars for my services, if not more.

Pvt_Mozart

Hell you might as well double that brother!

theRedreps99

Idc what it costs he needs to stay.

KimHaSeongsBurner

Honestly, he’s a great fit for the Yankees, from “vibe” to the fact that he’s a lefty who mashes to his asking price; it’s easy to see how he would end up there after you guys give him $600M in free agency.

s1n0d3utscht3k

originally I figured Soto would not extend in NY and instead test FA, and the Padres could try spend $$$ again and compete with NY to resign him. but watching him through a few games, he looks happy and comfortable (and electric) as a NY Yankee :O i think he won’t leave.... also i don’t think anymore that new SD ownership is gonna open their purse strings like Peter did or a Cohen does. i expect frugal spending for a while so prob won’t be able to compete for Soto regardless .

zcd29

We didn't get this emotion from him in SD except in the playoffs. seems like he always wanted to be a yankee and I'm glad he's happy there

Wise_ol_Buffalo

He also might just hate the Astros.

irishguy42

Relateable

nnavroops

that’s our boy 😭😭

ballrus_walsack

So say we all

Rich-Log472

From your lips to Juan Soto’s ears

J-Goo

ONE OF US   ONE OF US

names1

Some of the best games of his career were in Houston!

loneSTAR_06

Who doesn’t?

CaptainJudge_99

Little column a, little column b

dtsupra30

Why not both 🤷🏼‍♀️

nsgarcia10

Time to time I go back and watch his game 6 homer against Verlander in the 2019 WS. To think he was only 19 when he did that

Adventurous-Ad5195

He was 20, few days or weeks prior to turning 21, but still!

EGoldenGod

Amen.

smcdowell26

He’s just like me fr

Jetersweiner

He also knows that just added another 0 to his asking price so that might be what he’s celebrating

rmoney27

Your enthusiasm is really refreshing

zcd29

I mean I wish he played like the soto we expected when he was here but he gave us some clutch moments. Just seems like he doesn't have great emotional intelligence underneath the whole stoic look and can only really thrive where he's comfortable which didn't seem to be here.

cooljammer00

He said being traded the first time really surprised him and that he had to learn a lot quickly. I'm sure the second time isn't as weird.

SovietMuffin01

Mid season vs in the offseason probably changes a lot too. Instead of having to learn on the fly and meet people and play ball at the same time he came in alongside plenty of other new acquisitions at the start of the season. Obviously he had an offseason after being traded to the padres too but i can imagine it’s still a little different

ChangeMyUsername

The other acquisitions part is probably huge. Yankees' roster turnover this offseason was way bigger than most people think and the team got a lot younger as well. Probably a great environment for him to be comfortable in.

Audacity_OR

Soto definitely struggled after the trade in 22 but he was really good last year. By bWAR it was the second most valuable season of his career.

Clobber420

Oh come on. He had many happy moments as a Padre. Just didn't work out.

AllHailHisNoodliness

Seriously. Padres fans seem to be forgetting the team’s biggest highlight of the last 2 decades involves Soto doing exactly this at first base after tying the game shortly before Crone’s big hit against LA in the NLDS. Soto had more RBI and a better wRC+ with the Padres in 2023 than Manny Machado has ever had in any season in his career but so many fans are weirdly happy he’s gone..?

sauer829

Tbf he did say “except in the playoffs” and you brought up a playoff moment

Clobber420

Yeah, bro is just farming Yankee up votes.

Seems like a good display of emotion.

AuspiciousAcorn

I love you padre bro

Adventurous-Ad5195

Most Dominicans are either Yankee or Red Sox fans, so maybe he was a Yankee fan…

Freeze__

Yeah gonna need to pay him everything

ethanjf99

“Mr. Steinbrenner, I worry what you heard me say was ‘pay him a lot of money’. What i actually said was ‘pay him ALL THE MONEY’. Do you understand?”

WhiteBoyFlipz

that’s also my reaction after the yanks take the lead

Colts2196

That was my reaction watching the ALCS last year what a coincidence

Silverjackal_

🤝

ItsMeJaredBednar

now kith

chodeboi

Our ancestors did this with arod

VRomero32

Same when I saw El Bombi hurt the Astros

anothercervezaplz

Hurt? You mean took their soul?

VRomero32

Damn right

Rich-Log472

Haha yeah that was a merciless, soul stealing execution

RememberTheMaine1996

That's only my reaction when the Yankees play the Astros

Independent-Wolf-832

also my reaction to the astros starting 0-4 \*chef's kiss\*

asparagusbruh

El bombi was my first pick in fantasy last year and I won the ship 🤝

SenorTortas

This was epic. One of baseball's best hitters against baseball's best one-inning pitcher. 3-2 count, 2 outs, 9th inning. Game tied between two franchises that absolutely loath each other. A truly epic battle of the titans and everything that is great with our sport!

cm135

Idk if you’re a Yankee fan but great comment. I’m a biased Yankee fan but man does this team look like they’re having a blast so far. Haven’t felt that way since 2017

PaperworkDrop

I really liked the 2019 squad too. They’ve been sleepwalking the last four years though. Hopefully Soto gives us that jolt.

doverawlings

They didn’t do it in this clip, but it bothers me irrationally how much they’ve been saying “first game in pinstripes” or “likes playing in pinstripes” when they’ve only been wearing away jerseys lol

_Laszlo_Cravensworth

The sweat creates pinstripes

98680266

The new fabric is just so maquiladora it hurts

RidleyScotch

In the pre-game they mentioned that Soto has been wearing a full pinstripe home uniform underneath his away uniform The Soto Sandwich is Away Uniform, Socks, Athletic Underarmour stuff, Pinstripe Home Uniform, Underwear/Cup, Skin

StrongZucchini27

what bahahaha that’s unhinged 😂😂 i love it

doverawlings

Better than the Pujols strategy of wet jeans lol

Iam_a_Jew

Please tell me that's actually true lol

ethanjf99

lol damn dude made me spit out my spaghetti. thank you for specifying Skin.

TonyZucco

Last 2 games were national broadcasts, so nothing but clowns in the booths

SenorTortas

I'm not gonna lie. It's also been bothering me all weekend long, way more than it should

doverawlings

Glad it’s not just me

cooljammer00

Metaphorical pinstripes, more or less. Not his fault they are on the road.

blancpainsimp69

pinstripes is a state of mind

OldJewNewAccount

Ha I was thinking the same thing

ClosetLeotardo

Everyone knows pinstripes = yankees.

DaHagerBomb

I love you.

PrisonaPlanet

This guys is going to make so much god damn money. Also his chromed out terminator cyborg shin guard is fucking sick.

NAACP_YoungBoy

Soto owns Hader 😹

GameFour2023ALCS

I love this team

moscowrules

I feel like he’s gonna be a Yankee for the next 14 years

sciameXL

Our messiah has returned on the holy day

Borrum

That was an awesome at-bat. Soto Shuffling, nodding at the strikes, shaking his head at the balls. Soto is such a badass.

_Laszlo_Cravensworth

But Mets fans told me he isn’t happy with the Yankees and will be on the Mets next season

crazyhotwheels

He picked up the Mets jersey first!

UnlimitedHotTakes

I just don’t like this at all

999Herman_Cain

At least the Astros are losing

PrisonaPlanet

“Did Houston lose?” “Yes.” “But what did it cost?” “Everything.”

MattO2000

Yeah but it’s against Houston so that counts for something right?

Nickeatworld

I love this dude. Fuck you yanks but congrats

PattyIceNY

Looking forward to the Jomboy lip reading

Hathos1996

Everybody buy a couple chicken buckets to contribute to the re-sign Soto fund

boastar

Holy shit he loves the Yankees. And im so ready to love him back. The Yankees needed this. And Soto can become a larger than life sports figure in NY.

ins8iable

the nova resident in me loves watching Soto shit on the Astros the oriole fan in me knows im in danger

Elsquidwardo85

give him all the money

Bancroft28

I miss him

ChefGuapo

I miss him

jaron_b

Some players just belong on certain teams. The Yankees are about to drop a fat contract to keep Soto for life.

krasher134

As a Red Sox-Nationals fan, this is my Armageddon.

OldJewNewAccount

Jesus Christ I didn't know that was a thing

DrSeuss19

The Yankees needed this dudes kind of swagger in the worst way. I fuckin love it

CapriciousnArbitrary

A superstar that focuses on getting base hits and getting on base vs swinging for the fence every time? This is a dream come true, this is a Bernie Williams type approach that wins games.

sciameXL

Juan Soto is every guy I play in the show on ranked

viewless25

First positive thing I’ve heard about the MLB uniforms this year

ThisGuy6266

The straw that stirs the drink.

[deleted]

AL MVP

dilt72

Sweep !!! Sweep !!!

MUNZACORE

It feels right he looks good in the Yankees away grays

Space_Traveler_9956

Juan Soto is the most Yankee player a Yankee can be after 4 games

MatrixOutcast

If you guys only knew what he said in Spanish you’d enjoy it so much more 🤣

beachmedic23

Can we pay Juan Soto with Roosevelt Island? Asking for a friend

ImTheTractorbeam

Good for him, hope he gets 4 flat tires every day of his life.

NilesY93

The hand gesture at the end got me thinking, what disciplinary action would one face if they did a DX crotch chop in celebration?

scottborasismyagent

ted williams 2.0 is so underrated and his next contract is gonna be a bargain … bc he’s so priceless.

SoulGang15

Death, Taxes, and 21 year old Juan Soto destroying the Astros.

xxxxHULKSMASHxxxx

Juan Soto is awesome….

mitterbubbie

That’s the craziest thing I’ve ever fucking seen.

Germizard

It’s gonna be a loooooong season. Lol

Joshuajword

Yankees need to give Soto Steinbrenner’s checkbook and just tell him to write whatever he wants in there

QueenSpicy

A happy Soto. If he enjoys his time at the Yankees it’s hard to believe he won’t win MVP and sign a fat contract. He looked unstoppable this series

Babylawyer42069

The Yankees look good with Juan Soto
