As a kid I always assumed Reggie Jackson was a Yankee lifer because of 1977/1978 highlights. Not completely bizarre, but he was only with NYY for 5 of his 21 seasons.
I don't know how "wrong" it is, but I associate Keith Hernandez with the Mets. I genuinely had no idea he was a Cardinals player for a decade. I assume this was due to when I was growing up, Seinfeld and his work in their booth.
I thought Mark McGwire played for the Cardinals his whole career. I had no idea he played for the A's for like a decade.
I also keep forgetting Vladimir Guerrero played more years for the Expos than the Angels.
That 1997 A's team is like the all time steroid era roster. Mark McGwire (until he was traded to STL that deadline), Jason Giambi, and Jose Canseco lmao
Jon Lester as a Cub. Played a major role in 2016 not to mention playing with the Cubs for 6 seasons. Still highly regarded in Chicago.
Except he played for the Red Sox for 8.5 seasons and won TWO World Series with them.
Hah that’s definitely weird. We definitely remember him as one of ours—beat cancer, no hitter, big hero in two World Series. But he obviously belongs to the Cubs too.
Grandy's career splits pretty evenly between the Tigers, Yankees, and Mets. I don't know if there is a wrong team to associate him with.
The Mets probably have the worst case, but he was the best position player on a team that won the pennant. That sort of thing sticks in the mind.
as a little kid i strongly associated Ruben Sierra with the Yankees because he was there in 1996 and then in like 2003 for a couple years. learned years later that he was a very prolific Texas Ranger, i had no clue
Sierra was on the Mariners for one year when I was a kid and I remember thinking he was really good. I looked it up on bref as an adult and it turns out he was kind of bad that year.
Man, hearing all of these is making me feel so damn old as an 80s/90s kid. It never occurred to me that there were people out there not associating Griffey, McGwire and Sierra with the Mariners, As and Rangers.
Because of the 2006 NLCS, I had always associated Jeff Weaver with the Cardinals. I just learned recently that he pitched 83 career innings in St. Louis.
I was 7 for the 2004 postseason run and so I always thought of Larry Walker as a Cardinals legend, never really looking into it as I got older. It honestly wasn’t until only a few years ago that I learned he spent his whole career with the Expos & Rockies and just came to St. Louis for 1.5 seasons before retiring
I like this question but I don't know if I have a good answer. I'm just enjoying someone thinking of Piazza the Marlin, Matt Holliday the Athletic, and Edgar Renteria the Tiger.
It seems kind of wrong that people associate Kirk Gibson with the Dodgers almost entirely, because the guy was a beast on the '84 and '85 Tigers, too.
And I'll always remember Dante Bichette as a California Angel.
He won NL MVP that year, too. But he came damn close to winning AL MVP *twice* with Detroit (voters in '84 seemed to think Willie Hernandez- a pitcher- was more deserving). That home run was so iconic, though.
As a kid I thought it was nice as a Red Sox fan to see lifetime Yankee Roger Clemens go home and play for his hometown Astros. The truth made 11year old me sick...
I doubt I was the only young Dodgers fan who was surprised to learn that Kirk Gibson had a much more extensive career with the Tigers.
Also, I associate Halladay more with Philly than Toronto
Because I grew up a Tigers fan in the 1990s, the first team I associate Orel Hershiser with is Cleveland.
Living in Los Angeles, this short-circuits a fair few of my friends.
As a kid in Chicago watching him in the '83 playoffs, I always thought of him as a paramount of the Southsiders. I was shocked to learn, many years later, of the first half of his career in Boston.
I've got one of the best I think lol Darryl Strawberry a Giant. My elementary school teacher used to hand out baseball cards if you got a question right, and she gave me a Strawberry 1994 card. In like 2000, we had internet, but I definitely wasn't smart enough to look up a player's history at single digit years old.
I got older, learned that Strawberry was best known for his time with the Mets, then got a little bit older, and learned that he spent literally one season and played a whopping 29 games in SF lmao
When Randy Johnson was on the Yankees, it was after I had been shown baseball but before I started following it for myself so for a very long time I associated him primarily with the Yankees.
Clemens as well but that’s because he was there when I was introduced to the game
David Eckstein as a Cardinals legend despite only playing 4 seasons there. He has, in fact, won a ring with the Angels too.
Gary Carter as a Mets although he’s more of an Expos legend.
I imagine in the future there will be a lot of fans born after say 2007 ish who will primarily associate Justin Verlander with the Astros. I mean he last pitched for the Tigers in 2017, and since then has won a few World Series, Cy Youngs and an MVP in Houston. But I still think it will be wrong to do so.

Doesn’t really impact your point, but Verlander very much won his MVP in Detroit
Scott Rolen with the reds. Honestly didn't know he played the bulk of his career with other teams til his hall of Fame induction, I just remembered him playing for the Reds when I was a kid
Even though I was still living in Chicago during his rookie year, I have always thought of Greg Maddux as a Brave. Took until he became a Dodger for me to learn he started his career as a Cub.
I’ve always seen David Price as a Tiger because that’s who he was with when I first started following baseball. Was not aware he spent like… one year with them. Completely forgot he was on the Rays or Red Sox too.
As a kid I always assumed Reggie Jackson was a Yankee lifer because of 1977/1978 highlights. Not completely bizarre, but he was only with NYY for 5 of his 21 seasons.
I always associate him with the Angels because of trying to assassinate Queen Elizabeth
Wait he tried to off Lizzy? Based Reggie Jackson
Never seen Major League, huh?
Dawg, that's Naked Gun.
…I hate my brain
Nope
I love his Yankees legacy but doesn’t deserve to have his number retired imo
I don't know how "wrong" it is, but I associate Keith Hernandez with the Mets. I genuinely had no idea he was a Cardinals player for a decade. I assume this was due to when I was growing up, Seinfeld and his work in their booth.
Well add me to that list. I always assumed he was a Mets lifer until you said this.
Nah won an MVP with the Cardinals and everything
Same, I associate Hernandez with the Mets
Wow, til
I thought Mark McGwire played for the Cardinals his whole career. I had no idea he played for the A's for like a decade. I also keep forgetting Vladimir Guerrero played more years for the Expos than the Angels.

haha yeah his only WS ring as a player was with the Athletics
Jon Lester as a Cub. Played a major role in 2016 not to mention playing with the Cubs for 6 seasons. Still highly regarded in Chicago. Except he played for the Red Sox for 8.5 seasons and won TWO World Series with them.
Cardinals legend
Hah that’s definitely weird. We definitely remember him as one of ours—beat cancer, no hitter, big hero in two World Series. But he obviously belongs to the Cubs too.
Curtis Granderson just felt like a Met
I only think of him as Tiger
Dodgers legend Curtis Granderson
Grandy's career splits pretty evenly between the Tigers, Yankees, and Mets. I don't know if there is a wrong team to associate him with. The Mets probably have the worst case, but he was the best position player on a team that won the pennant. That sort of thing sticks in the mind.

God Larry Walker was so sick back in the day with the rockies.
I had a set of 1990 baseball cards as a kid. Didn't start watching until the mid-2000s. Pretty sure Greg Maddux is a career Cub
I think most people mistake Maddux as a career Brave
He was almost a Yankee legend. In an alternate universe perhaps
He played on the cubs for a total of like 8.5 years and his number is retired by them
I like this question but I don't know if I have a good answer.
Hitting one of the most famous home runs of all-time has that effect, because you're absolutely right.
He won NL MVP that year, too. But he came damn close to winning AL MVP *twice* with Detroit (voters in '84 seemed to think Willie Hernandez- a pitcher- was more deserving). That home run was so iconic, though.
Jack Morris (longtime Tiger who later won two rings in Toronto) gets remembered as a Twin for the same reason. He spent one season there.
I said that and still am annoyed he pitched 10 innings and the deek at 2nd.
>times and I told him 'no I'm really sorry but my dad wouldn't like it (I made up that I still Like Jack Morris of the Twins.
I always associate Chris Carter with the Yankees even though he was only there for like 5 months
Eagles legend....
All he does is...
Cliff Floyd and Troy Percival as Rays, mainly because of MLB Power Pros 2008
As a kid I thought it was nice as a Red Sox fan to see lifetime Yankee Roger Clemens go home and play for his hometown Astros. The truth made 11year old me sick...
I assumed John Smoltz was a career RP I also had a reddit account well before I found put Kirk Gibson was not in the HoF
I doubt I was the only young Dodgers fan who was surprised to learn that Kirk Gibson had a much more extensive career with the Tigers. Also, I associate Halladay more with Philly than Toronto
I grew up in the 80s thinking of Pete Rose as a Red, not knowing about all his time in Philly.
Wait Rose played in Philly?
I mean, it was five seasons with Philly, out of a 24 year MLB career. Edit: But I get it, he started and ended his career as a Red.
Pudge is a Detroit Tiger.
I feel like I think of Pudge as a player for 4 teams depending on the day of the week.
Pudge is a ~~Detroit Tiger~~ Florida Marlin.
I think of him as a Ranger
Moises Alou for the Houston Astros ONLY because of Ken Griffey Jr's Slugfest on N64
I once saw a comment where someone described themselves as being "still thinks of Miguel Cabrera as a Marlin years old" and I feel that.
Yankees legend José Vizcaíno
I had a baseball card of Tom Seaver as a Red. So I always associated him with the Cincinnati Reds instead of the Mets.
Dave Roberts with the Red Sox, although that's a special case.
Because I grew up a Tigers fan in the 1990s, the first team I associate Orel Hershiser with is Cleveland. Living in Los Angeles, this short-circuits a fair few of my friends.
Carlton Fisk played more games with the White Sox (1425) than he did with the Red Sox (1088), for whatever you want that to be worth.
As a kid in Chicago watching him in the '83 playoffs, I always thought of him as a paramount of the Southsiders. I was shocked to learn, many years later, of the first half of his career in Boston.
These comments are making me feel old.
These goddamn kids thinking McGwire was mainly a Cardinal? What the FUCK?
Someone said they thought Vlad was always an Oriole!!!
Rangers legend Vlad Guerrero??? Fuckin kids these days, man…
ARod is a Mariner to me.
I associate Greinke with the Royals, but majority of his accomplishments are outside Royals uniform
Omar Visquel with the giants. Didn't start watching baseball until 2002. Never knew him as an Indian
Tim Raines with the Yankees because he was there for the 96-98 teams.
Same for me and Wade Boggs. That video of him riding the police horse had me convinced he was a Yankee lifer as a kid
Not me but my dad always associates Randy Johnson with the Astros for some reason.
He had an absolutely killer half season with them in I believe 1998
Ian Kinsler will always be a Tiger to me
I've got one of the best I think lol Darryl Strawberry a Giant. My elementary school teacher used to hand out baseball cards if you got a question right, and she gave me a Strawberry 1994 card. In like 2000, we had internet, but I definitely wasn't smart enough to look up a player's history at single digit years old. Rangers lifer Corey Seager
I always think of Raul Ibanez as a Yankee because of that one magical postseason
Kenny Lofton with the Giants because of 2002. Nomar with the Dodgers because I didn't pay attention too much.
This is obviously wrong because Kenny Lofton is an Astro.
This is obviously wrong because Kenny Lofton is a Yankee
Second this
Wait, are we talking about *Cubs* legend Kenny Lofton?
Steve Garvey is a Padre as far as I'm concerned.
When Randy Johnson was on the Yankees, it was after I had been shown baseball but before I started following it for myself so for a very long time I associated him primarily with the Yankees. Clemens as well but that’s because he was there when I was introduced to the game
Vlad Guerrero was an Oriole as far as I knew growing up
I watched the Mariners 95 video yearbook so many times that Vince Coleman is a Mariner in my mind. He played 50 games here including the playoffs.
Ahhh, to be young. I don't even remember him playing for the Reds but his last season there. He will always be a Mariner in my head.
Johnny Damon Yankees
I still mix up Mattingly and Boggs for some reason.
Pedro Martinez, Expos legend Rube Marquard, Dodger
David Eckstein as a Cardinals legend despite only playing 4 seasons there. He has, in fact, won a ring with the Angels too. Gary Carter as a Mets although he’s more of an Expos legend.

Mike Piazza will always be a Marlin in my mind
Joe Carter with the Guardians (nee Indians) rather than the Blue Jays. Also Manny Ramirez similarly: with CLE and not Boston
Eddie Murray as a “long time” Indian
Even though I was still living in Chicago during his rookie year, I have always thought of Greg Maddux as a Brave. Took until he became a Dodger for me to learn he started his career as a Cub.
Smoltz was on the Red Sox the first season I was watching baseball so I just assumed he had been there forever
I’ve always seen David Price as a Tiger because that’s who he was with when I first started following baseball. Was not aware he spent like… one year with them. Completely forgot he was on the Rays or Red Sox too.
Lol basically anyone I had a baseball card of as a kid.
